Georgia calls back troops from Iraq amid fighting

rawstory.com — Georgia's president says the country is calling home its troops from Iraq amid heavy fighting in the breakaway province of South Ossetia. Georgia has 2,000 troops serving with the coalition forces in Iraq, making it the third-largest contributor after the United States and Britain.

With the tensions over missile defense and now Georgia, we are close to a major confrontation -- perhaps the biggest since the end of the Cold War.
principle, on 08/08/2008, -1/+4Georgia will try to drag US and Europe into this mess. Unfortunately for all of us, Bush is only too eager to start more trouble, and this small incident could lead to resurrection of the Cold War. But then, Bush has been trying to do that for some time now.
siszam, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2US Special Forces have been training Georgian soldiers since 2002. Our troops are still there and now Georgia attacks Russia. Not the other way around. Georgia doesn't have to "drag" us into anything. The U.S. is the one doing the dragging.
