Georgia: Russian Cluster Bombs Kill Civilians
hrw.org — Dutch RTL cameraman Stan Storimans got killed and some reporters seriously injured, with cluster bombs banned by 107 nations. “Russia’s use of this weapon is not only deadly to civilians, but also an insult to international efforts to avoid a global humanitarian disaster of the kind caused by landmines.”

How do you know whose they are? Georgia probably shouldn't have killed all those russian civilians for no reason. Then russia wouldn't have bombed them.
- yellowcakewalk, on 08/15/2008, -0/+5Lebanese children are STILL getting blown to bits by the million+ clusterbomblets dropped by the zionists while fleeing from Lebanon. Israeli Occupation Forces dropped the clusterbombs AFTER the cease-fire was signed, to the best of my understanding.
- caferrell, on 08/15/2008, -0/+4The CIA paid millions to the Chilean arms manufaturer, Carlos Cardoen to build a plant in Iraq in the late seventies to produce fuel air bombs, cluster bombs and 155mm. howitzers.
Those cluster bombs were then used by Saddam against the Iranians.
Why doesn't anyone in the world ever believe what we say? /

- angusm, on 08/15/2008, -0/+7Similar cluster bombs were also used by Israel in Lebanon in 2006, and by the US in Iraq in 2003 and Afghanistan in 2001. One of the characteristics of cluster bombs is that they have a very high failure rate: a large number fail to explode when initially dropped, but will easily blow up if handled or burned. Farmers in areas of Laos cluster-bombed by the US in the 1970s are still at risk today from unexploded bombies when clearing fields or burning stubble.
Of course, the US wins the all-time award for military ***** with their use of cluster bombs in Afghanistan. At the same time that they were dropping cluster bombs containing yellow-painted bomblets over populated areas, they were also air-dropping emergency food packets. Guess what color the packets were? That's right, the same bright yellow as the cluster munitions, teaching Afghan children the valuable lesson that if you see something small and bright yellow lying on the ground, you should immediately pick it up and try to open it because it might contain yummy goodies. - flogistan, on 08/15/2008, -1/+3Human rights watch seems to be noticing only the bombs falling on Israel's allies and Israeli journalists. Who runs this organization?
- Kizilbash, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1That's *****. HRW also criticized Israel at the time. With Israel apologists spouting the same nonsense about them being one-sided. The use of clusterbombs in civilian areas is always wrong, regardless of who does it.
- flogistan, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1I agree with you. My point was that both sides probably have them in this case, and that I think Kenneth Roth has a soft spot for Israel and its interests even if he does a good job of acting like he doesn't. You may be satisfied that he has no bias in their favor, but I am not.

- Kizilbash, on 08/15/2008, -0/+6This is big news here (in the Netherlands) for obvious reasons. Although to their credit the newspapers also mention the fact that Israel used them in large numbers in 2006.
- Hillsfar, on 08/15/2008, -0/+7Our own U.S. government can't say anything about cluster bombs since we use them, too.
Same with torture, white phosphorous, depleted uranium, etc.
