- AgeofMastery, on 06/07/2009, -46/+485But the extreme right isn't dangerous and these people aren't terrorists...
- AgeofMastery, on 06/08/2009, -13/+213"I know there are many other similar events planned around the country as long as abortion remains legal,"
An organised group with plans to kill more doctors isn't a terrorist group? - novenator, on 06/08/2009, -8/+171ter-ror-ism [ter-uh-riz-uhm]
–noun
1. the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.
2. the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization.
3. a terroristic method of governing or of resisting a government.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/terrorism - scottknick, on 06/08/2009, -10/+164FTA: "On Friday, the Justice Department opened an investigation into whether Roeder, who had enough money to stalk Tiller for years despite having little or no income, had help from accomplices. Anyone who played a role in the killing will be prosecuted "to the full extent of federal law," said Loretta King, head of the Justice Department's civil rights division."
Apparently, the DOJ doesn't think it was a "lone nut." - JoeMondo, on 06/08/2009, -19/+172Operation Rescue is a front for these terrorists.
They tracked Tiller and gave his location.
Their policy adviser who is a convicted felon. - quirkopatra, on 06/08/2009, -1/+150There is no excuse for the murder of Tiller. We are a nation of laws. The moment you try to justify or defend this action is the moment you invite violence onto YOURSELF because someone disagrees with what you do.
- dtr300, on 06/08/2009, -7/+152Gee, who needs torture? You just put 'em on the phone with an AP reporter and they start flapping their yappers.
Which leads me to ask: Hasn't this man been appointed an attorney yet, and why is his attorney letting him talk to the press??? - oldhick, on 06/08/2009, -17/+143"I think studies show...", then show one.
- redcolumbine, on 06/08/2009, -8/+128Sounds familiar. "The storm of airplanes will not stop..." Get a life (sentence), nutbar.
- DBreeze, on 06/08/2009, -14/+123Has the main stream media started using the term 'right-wing extremists'? I really hope they do.
- Diefree, on 06/08/2009, -11/+119These people are terrorists, they use fear and intimidation to get their religion passed into law. These people want to take your rights away and willing to cause the death of heroes like Tiller who saved hundreds maybe thousands of lives. His patients were teenage RAPE victims and women that had cancer and couldn't get chemo until they had abortions. Operation: Rescue rather let these women die or have their lives ruined than understand. These people want a theocracy where women will have NO rights to their bodies.

- eir574, on 06/08/2009, -4/+89@Siszam
Are you willing to say outright that you support the murder of doctors who perform abortions? - eir574, on 06/08/2009, -13/+90Wish I could remember off the top of my head which right winger on digg had a conversation with me in which he insisted that those who murder abortion doctors have never, ever collaborated with one another and hence that each murder is a completely isolated incident . . .
- mithrasinvictus, on 06/08/2009, -14/+88I guess you can file "stalking" as terrorism with a little imagination, but that would mean O' Reilly is a terrorist as well.
From your report: "...the United States has not experienced any major leftist terrorist movements or actions in recent years..."
Most listed organizations are branded leftist without revealing their agenda to actually be so.
I'm getting really tired of you people pointing fingers at the (imaginary) "other side" as if that would justify your sides atrocities. - quirkopatra, on 06/08/2009, -5/+71"He also complained about the "deplorable conditions in solitary," worried about catching pneumonia because his cell was cold and said he needed his sleep apnea machine."
Cry me a river.
This man is mentally ill. He doesn't understand his crime. - Whatasillyhat, on 06/08/2009, -5/+70Ah, I see the logic here. Murder is wrong so we must murder.
- inactive, on 06/08/2009, -6/+60I dunno, I think, though, that painting people who commit murder over abortion as terrorists is a pretty accurate description. Now, if he said pro-lifers are terrorists, I could see your point, but he used the words "these people," which I would take to mean the people who kill over abortion, because specifically that's what the guy in question did.
- delrin500, on 06/08/2009, -1/+50You are crazy. How can you use your "morality" to defend murderer?
- emailowndme, on 06/08/2009, -12/+61Hey, and we didn't have to waterboard him either.
Turns out religious fanatics are more than happy to spill the beans without any "harsh interrogations". - inactive, on 06/08/2009, -13/+61The FBI should investigate his allegations thoroughly, but this guy has a history of mental illness.
This "network" probably exists in his head only. - IKORKYI, on 06/08/2009, -6/+53as if middle aged men and women holding up signs of dead fetus' outside of clinics needed any more help looking rediculous and out of touch.
i wonder what those people would do if i stood in a public place and held up pictures of mutilated bodies from the wars their religious base supports. - inactive, on 06/08/2009, -10/+56I prefer "Christian Extremists" myself.
- Suricou, on 06/08/2009, -2/+47Cheryl Sullenger, right?
Perfectly true claim. Convicted felon - she plotted to bomb a clinic a long time ago. And she is indeed an advisor for Operation Rescue.
She was also behind their idea a few years ago of publicising the names of every abortionist in the state, along with their photos, home address, photos of their families, and in some cases I believe the schools their children attended - though at the same time she said she didn't advocate violence any more. Such a blatent attempt to nudge people towards attacking the doctos' families was too much, and her seniors in OR quickly pulled the plug on that website. - JeffFerguson, on 06/08/2009, -8/+53I don't get what part of "THOU SHALT NOT KILL" people aren't getting. Can you kill the unborn? No. Can you kill the doctor who killed the unborn? No. Can you kill the nutjob who killed the doctor who killed the unborn? No. The deal is only four words long. It's not that difficult.
- Kazbaeden, on 06/08/2009, -6/+50So much for the sanctity of life.
- Gemfinder, on 06/08/2009, -0/+43Word.
Oh, solitary confinement is so awful! Fine, we'll release you into the general prison population. The very definition of paradise! - Ninh, on 06/08/2009, -3/+45Well at least he confessed to conspiracy to commit terrorist acts, that should make the prosecution's job easier.
- inactive, on 06/08/2009, -3/+40as well as "leftist" not being the same as left-wing.
- norman619, on 06/08/2009, -6/+42One man using terror to get another group of people to bend to his will. That is terrorism and a terrorist. This guy is obviously part of a group of people.
- GraceHead, on 06/08/2009, -2/+37You said murder, and meant murderer.
- Paranor01, on 06/08/2009, -3/+37Obvious Troll is Obvious... don't feed it.
- emailowndme, on 06/08/2009, -5/+38nah, he was talking about fascism when bush suspended habius corpus and equated our war in iraq with god's will. Which was coincidentally exactly what Hitler did with his wars and other actions.
- str1fe, on 06/08/2009, -0/+32As far as I'm concerned, a "terrorist" is anyone who uses fear (or terror, if you prefer) to control a group of people or push a political ideal. You don't have to set off bombs or fire weapons to be a terrorist; as long as you're using fear to control someone else's thoughts or actions, to me that's close enough.
- DBreeze, on 06/08/2009, -1/+32NorthMass, I never said to label all of these republicans as right wing extremists. I want them to start labeling the nasty individuals who murder because of their ideological reasons and the ones who defend that murder. Those individuals are extremists and terrorists.
- rkthoadan, on 06/08/2009, -3/+33You forgot:
4. A clever excuse politicians use to justify almost anything. - novenator, on 06/08/2009, -11/+40That's because the 2 are not related. They are not even apples and oranges, as those are both at least fruits. The assassination of George Tiller was right wing terrorism, clear and simple. The incitement has been diabolically bound with violent intimidation, and this is terrorism (dictionary reference available upon request). The slaying of the army recruiters was a tragic crime, but in no way reflects any type of left wing mentality. The desperation of the right wing in trying to tie the two together is very telling, in their eyes, they are trying to cushion the results of their incendiary rhetoric by trying to claim that violence is endemic with both, when clearly there is a genuine dichotomy.
- wadd, on 06/08/2009, -0/+29OK, somebody help me here: What difference does it make if the terrorist comes from the left or the right?
- novenator, on 06/08/2009, -8/+36With respect, I disagree. Operation Rescue and other anti-choice groups have a clear history of using fear and intimidation to get what they want, despite of the law. The assassination of George Tiller by this wingnut is a clear example of domestic terrorism, just as the bombing of the federal bldg in OK city was. To call it a simple act of violence does not convey it's true form, although it is always easier to recognize terrorism in other countries and cultures.
You are correct on one issue however, the conservatives did use terrorism as a method in which to strip Americans of their civil liberties. This was very transparent and I argued until I was blue in the face with so many conservatives who defended domestic espionage, ignoring the rule of law, and abolishing habeas corpus to no avail. - paintgrl, on 06/08/2009, -6/+34That guy was not anti war, he was anti christian crusade. He was also a total nut ball and acting alone unlike Scott Roeder, who had a whole group of people helping him. Violence like this is a shame in both cases.
- Velvolver, on 06/08/2009, -1/+28Gas, food, guns, and ammo require money.
Money is exchanged for goods and services such as gas and food, guns and ammo.
Money is normally obtained through a job.
This man had no job.
Someone with a job gave him money. - Junkyarddawg, on 06/08/2009, -3/+29Seriously, I don't get it. The textbook definition of terrorism is "intimidation and violence to further political goals", but even the New York Times refer to the shooter as a "criminal", not a "terrorist", and the organization he belonged tois allowed to disclaim the incident even though they are shown carrying signs showing that they support the killing of Tiller.
They're terrorists. Throw the goddamn terrorist act at them, that's what it's for. - dofe, on 06/08/2009, -2/+27As incredulous as it sounds, some conservatives are blaming the shooting on a liberal conspiracy. Sixth post from the top:
"I wouldn't put it past BO's side to have done it. Of course the media will be busy putting the blame "Christian zealots." You can count on that. Just wait till Oberman (sp?) puts his 2 cent worth into it."
http://www.conservativesforum.com/cgi-bin/conserva ... - Moralogic, on 06/08/2009, -4/+29So you are saying the extreme right, which by definition is the fringes, is wrong to call out on their behavior because you are too stupid to separate them from the right? Or do you actually support the actions of the extreme right? Because if you actually support the actions of the extreme right you need to be dugg down much more.
- Velvolver, on 06/08/2009, -1/+26Because nut jobs like this don't accept a lawyer. They want to deal with this themselves because they think they are on a divine mission.
Then when they get found guilty in court they believe the jury is filled with demons.
They get off on the persecution and sit in jail thinking they did the right thing.
Then while sitting in jail they read the Bible and finally see the parts where it says to never take joy in your enemies misfortune/punishment or to ever hurt another person as Jesus did.
And then they "oh shi-" and shoop whoop - Paranor01, on 06/08/2009, -1/+26I'm 40yrs old, and have enough "life experience" for several people thank you.
- pintomp3, on 06/08/2009, -7/+31Organized terrorism and threats from the Talibangelicals? Shocking!
- knute5, on 06/08/2009, -3/+27It's more than one man. It's just one more incident in a campaign of fear and violence that's been going on for decades.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-abortion_violenc ... - Paranor01, on 06/08/2009, -1/+25"This man is mentally ill. He doesn't understand his crime."
Hence why his allegations should be investigated because if he doesn't understand, then it lends credence to the possibility he was led by others to do the crime.
Which also brings a lot of possible truth to him saying "more on the way". - Zetsubou, on 06/08/2009, -0/+24"He also complained about the "deplorable conditions in solitary," worried about catching pneumonia because his cell was cold and said he needed his sleep apnea machine."
