Friedman: So Popular and So Spineless
nytimes.com — Maybe Asians, Europeans, Latin Americans and Africans don ’t like a world of too much American power — “Mr. Big” got a little too big for them. But how would they like a world of too little American power? With America’s overextended military and overextended banks, that is the world into which we may be heading.

- SuperShlomo, on 07/17/2008, -1/+0Friedman is a clueless bigot. Glenn Greenwald lays waste to this no-talent assclown in this piece: http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/07/16/ ...
As for Mugabe, yeah he sucks, but Roberts does a great job of portraying Mugabe in an appropriate context- jcm267, on 07/17/2008, -1/+3That Salon guy is dead wrong. America does not get into unprovoked wars.
FTA:
What other country in the world has leading members of its political class who justify unprovoked attacks on other countries -- who casually justify the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people -- in such depraved and sadistic terms?
The author then went on to emphasize just how horrible the USA is by pointing out Guantonomo and Abu Grahaib while conveniently forgetting to point out that Russia and China (the two countries that were the topic of Friedman's piece) are far worse to their own people. If you honestly buy into what this guy is saying then you must be a Ron Paul supporter.- card51short, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1you're right jcm...because russia and china are worse we can be bad, too. But it's OK for us since we wont' be quite THAT bad.
Good logic and argument. Like always. - jcm267, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2You're missing the point, carD. While Abu Grahaib was dead wrong the enemy is FAR worse. And even if our government tolerated/encouraged it until it was public our public condemned it. Whereas with our enemy...

And FWIW I think that Guantonomo is necessary (and LEGAL). Now go along and look into the Chinese and Russian abuses. They are easily worse than what America does yet they don't get the same international condemnation that we get. - card51short, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1"While Abu Grahaib was dead wrong the enemy is FAR worse."
Well you do get some points in my book for actually admitting Abu Grahaib was wrong...I'm honestly shocked you would discredit anything that is the establishment. So kudos. I'm being serious, too.
However, you justify Guantanamo by comparing it to Russia and China?! That's like comparing a serial killer to Hitler.
I say they are both bad.
