- jamesallen74, on 10/10/2007, -11/+78You do understand if it weren't for the French, the USA would not have been. They helped us win the Revolutionary War.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -11/+77BREAKING NEWS: French President uses the word "bombing" while advocating for diplomacy with Tehran, US neoconservatives soil themselves
- cybermort, on 10/10/2007, -11/+40is there a factory mass producing idiot world leaders or what.?
- gibsonic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28so... is ok to start calling them "french fries" again? or is that still a bit premature?
- EarlOfLade, on 10/10/2007, -2/+27Like USA did in WWII? 2 years, 3 months and 7 days after the war started.
- wblackh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24I cant believe I have to write this but he didnt say he would bomb Iran. He said he doesnt want this to be the outcome therefore they should stop the nuke program. He said there are two outcomes US/plus - bombs them, or they stop the program and dont get bombed. He is trying to be straight with them. This is easy guys Digg sux I quit most of you are dumb I think.
- Liam76, on 10/10/2007, -4/+26Way to encourage peace and understanding.
- ubuntuedgy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Yeah, this quote didn't get taken out of context. /sarcasm
He is saying that if the world doesn't solve this diplomatically, then it may end in bombs...NOT THAT FRANCE IS GOING TO DO THE BOMBING! - alpinweiss88, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16If you stopped calling them "french fries" then you are a ***** moron.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15He just had a long visit with Bush last week.. it must've been really successful.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15You moron, Sarkozy is just making every attempt at getting France on America's good side. He spent a long holiday with Bush during the summer and I'm sure he's just doing this to develop a friendly relationship with the Bush Admin. and the US. It was his election pledge.
- cresswga, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14You mean they came late like the US entering World War II three years after it started?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -6/+18What does that have to do with this article?
- dpratt, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16"they would be ten to one hundred times more responsible with them than we are"
And you wrote this with a straight face? - Liam76, on 10/10/2007, -13/+24No. France changed to a govt that realized that Iran has missiles that can reach them and is actively working towards nuclear weapon capabilities. It has realized they are about to have a dangerous madman running in their backyard and that they better do something about it.
- cresswga, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Blair isn't conservative and is no longer in charge. But otherwise well done.
- Kaosu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Do you even know your history? If not for the miraculous victory of the French Armada vs the Britons, the war would probably had been won by Britain.
- axxxul, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Yeah. Good job in Vietnam!
- MrSketch, on 10/10/2007, -7/+17It's been said that "We know the terrorists cannot be appeased, because if they could be, France would have done it already".
- LonesomeFighter, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13you are an idiot and need some history lessons.
- crapple, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Don't forget the war of 1812. If Napoleon hadn't kept the Brits busy in Europe, we would have been fighting the majority of the British Army/Navy, rather than a meager portion.
- foopirata, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11His second link is "Sarkozy's Jewish Roots". The third is "Sarkozy and his connection to the Rothschilds". The fourth, "JEWISH FRENCH PRESIDENT NICOLAS SARKOZY".
Somehow I don't think his intentions are on geopolitical analysis.
He just lacks the cojones to spell it out, the coward. - kronix2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9BREAKING NEWS: Ignorant ***** unaware that France has been governed by a right-wing government since 1995.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -16/+25It's funny because Nuclear is the cleanest and safest energy source to date. But because the word nuclear is present, environmentalist ***** think it's bad for the environment.
I agree with you on the UN and Iraq. People seem to have selective memories and forget how badly the UN bungled Iraq's WMD monitoring.
I believe France can walk the walk. Their military is in full readiness. They have enough uniforms, guns, vehicles, and white flags for the entire French military - Gaki, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13Are you kidding me? In WWI, America showed up mere weeks before the end of hostilities after YEARS of lobbying by Europe trying to get them involved. The Europeans owe more to the Canadians (who broke the stalemate at Vimy and started the slow march backwards of the Germans) than they will ever owe to the US for that war.
Secondly, WWII was a JOINT effort and Russia did as much, if not more, to defeat Germany than the US did. Look at the German casualty figures for the Western vs. the Eastern front and you'll see what I mean ... there is a reason no German soldier wanted to serve in the East. - thcobbs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Coal Mining Deaths:
http://www.usmra.com/saxsewell/historical.htm - Dotnetsky, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10The word "airstrikes" only appeared in the title, nowhere in the article. This is the kind of sensationalism and hysterical posting that makes me mistrust Digg ( and the rest of the media, to be fair)
- LooterMcBeer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11You could quite possibly be one of the biggest idiots in the world today. The crap spewing out of your mouth is just worthless.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8French kissing is also back in service. Phew, life is good again.
- ahzahraee, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11This is ***** stupid, the American and Israeli media's desperate attempt to manipulate the people. Sarkozy clearly opposed military action against Iran.
This is his original speech in French newspapers (in French):
Le Monde (leftist): http://www.lemonde.fr/web/depeches/0,14-0,39-32177688@7-40,0.html
Le Figaro (rightist): http://www.lefigaro.fr/international/20070828.FIG000000181_sarkozy_pour_une_diplomatie_volontariste.html
The European English media reported the news correctly:
AP: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070827/ap_on_re_eu/france_sarkozy
But the American and Israeli media turned what he had said upside down in a desperate attempt to show that Sarkozy is in line with Bush:
Internatinal Herald Tribune: http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/08/27/europe/france.php
NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/28/world/europe/28france.html?_r=1&ref=world&oref=slogin
ynetnews (this digg link) - hlgriggs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8iRabs??? Let's not bring Steve Jobs into this.
- fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11More importantly, what percentage of people who think we should bomb Iran actually know ***** about the country? Iran is a far different and more interesting culture than most of the world views it as.
- fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Sarkozy is definitely right wing on French terms, but compared to other right-wing global figures, he is still pretty liberal.
- TubaTechno, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Haha. Out of those lists did you even read any of the contamination aspects or injuries?
The first accident: "Subsequent monitoring of surrounding water sources revealed no contamination. No immediate fatalities or injuries resulted from the incident; a 1982 followup study of exposed workers showed no long-term health effects." - And thats because of the technology of that day.
And out of all those accidents, how many do you remember by name?
Stupid hippy. - swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9geekee talks out of his ass on a regular basis. The fact is, the US is arming militias who are attacking civilians subverting the government of Iran. Another fact is that the US is arming Iraqi militias who fought US forces earlier in the war and are subverting the democratically elected govt. of Iraq.
- axiomflash, on 10/10/2007, -6/+12Iraq has been such a success, why wouldn't we fight Iran? Bring it on!
- notque, on 10/10/2007, -8/+14Why would you be for attacking their nuclear infrastructure when they have a right to nuclear energy under the nuclear proliferation treaty they signed with us?
- LexTalionis, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Don't be stupid. This is a link to an Israeli newspaper, and the Israelis have been advocating the invasion of Iran for several years now. Look at Google news today, and you'll see that this is a complete misquote. You'll also see that he said: "I have the reputation to be a friend of Israel and it’s true." Wake up!
- airiox, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Actually the French military is probably the most aggressive of the western countries. Over in Afghanistan if a guy throws rocks at their convoy they will put a bullet in him right there. Their logic is simple, rocks now, rpg's later. It was their former pacifist government under Chirac that was the problem not the people or their military.
- sathias, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Maybe you should do some research on how many US supplied (and suppposedly controlled) weapons have gone missing in the last few years, Iran has no need to supply insurgents. The US is doing a good enough job themselves by subcontracting this war out to for-profit corporations who know they effectively have a blank cheque.
- appetite, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Bush declares 3 countries to be the Axis of Evil: North Korea, Iraq, and Iran.
North Korea: has nukes. Ongoing diplomacy.
Iraq: had no nukes. Invaded. Leaders hung or shot to death. Quagmire from hell.
Iran: ??
Seems pretty simple. We've created a threat in Iran by making it clear that their only chance for SURVIVAL is to get nukes. We backed them into a corner. Only surgical diplomacy can make something good of this situation. I'm not optimistic, and frankly, I blame our stupid ass president the most. We know his cronies will financially benefit from more war, and we know the average American will get shat on. Yet, some morons, like the commenter at the top of this thread, wants to see what will happen as if its some kind of sporting spectacle. In a fair world, people like him would suffer the first consequences. - Boomkin, on 10/10/2007, -8/+14I still find it amusing that so many people, Americans especially, have got it in their heads that France and French folks are total wussy pansies. That's about as much spin as you can ask for -- in reality, it's Americans that are quaking in their shoes after a measly 3,000 people were killed in one of the very few actual civilian attacks we've had on American soil. Compare that to dealing with the Nazis on your own turf -- who's really got the balls, hmm?
- sodade, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Belligerent? What the ***** about israel and the US. If I was Iranian, I'd be trying to get nukes as fast as I can to protect myself from the western aggressor.
- quaxon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5so the moral thing then would be to kill the children with tanks and other high tech weaponry?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6http://gabe.web.psi.ch/pdfs/PSI_Report/ENSAD98App.pdf
141 pages of coal mining accidents since 1941.
There ya go, douche. Safety first. - MonkeyHugger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5He's president.
- plagiats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5no, please, continue. we don't want you.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5How about the health damage done by oil and coal burning plants? MUCH more than any nuclear accidents of the past.
- notque, on 10/10/2007, -11/+16What would I call it when an elected government launches rockets against an occupying army? I'd call it the right of all people's to defend themselves from occupation which is recognized by the U.N.
Palestine was kicked off of their land forcefully, and then have been steadily losing more and more land from illegal settlements. They are under complete check point control, and are occupied. The Israeli Army takes down homes forcefully. It's an occupation, and all occupations are brutal. - rodolphe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I'm French too and I remember he stopped giving his opinion on the matter when he saw it could affect his ambitions, and instead chose to insist on the how we shouldn't disagree with the US.
