Free Dr. Sami Al-Arian, political prisoner in the USA
freesamialarian.com — Dr. Sami Al-Arian, whose Palestinian parents were forcibly exiled from their homeland in 1948, immigrated to the United States at the age of 17 to pursue higher education. Al-Arian was accused of a crime, tried and found not guilty on 8 of 17 charges with the jury deadlocked on the rest. 4 months later, still in jail despite the jury failing to find him guilty on any of the charges Dr. Al-Arian agreed to a plea deal with the understanding that he would be released and deported. At the plea hearing the judge reneged on the deal made and sentenced him to 57 months in prison. In April 2007 when he had served that 57 months the courts charged him with contempt for refusing to testify before a grand jury regarding a Palestinean group he has no knowledge of. He remains in jail to this day as the trial for his charge of contempt keeps getting delayed.

- AeroMerde, on 08/15/2008, -3/+1The guy supported Islamic jihad (that is, the murder of innocent people) and is continually in contempt of court. No pity here. He's gotten his fair trials.
- caferrell, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1No he has not. What laws was he convicted of? What laws is he in violation of that allow him to still be jailed? Our country is not great because "Our people they uh, uh they uh, they got great valuesh" as your wonderful President says. Our country is great because we have respected the rule of law.
We do not respect the law because we are good people. We are good people because we respect the law
When we quit respecting the law we stop being good people
