France Surrenders to Olympic Protesters
news.sky.com — After protesters disrupted the Olympic torch relay at least four times, the mayor of Paris officially surrendered in the grand tradition of French history, cancelling further Olympic-related events in the city.

- drachemorder, on 04/07/2008, -1/+9Okay, so I make a lot of jokes about the French proclivity for surrender, but in this case the protests have a good point. China, one of the world's most oppressive regimes, needs to be protested. If we could stir up a nice big revolution in that country, it would have the double benefit of overthrowing those communist dirtbags and undermining the troubling growth of the aforementioned regime as a world power. Yeah, it might hurt the economy for a while, but a bunch of cheap plastic imported crap seems to me a small price to pay for the freedom of a once-proud nation.

After all 70 million French must be more correct than sadistic communist Chinese tyrants running 1.3 billion largely enslaved & persecuted people. No safety for workers. Filthy polluted rivers and air so dirty it crosses the Pacific heavily intact enough to blanket the western USA. No Christianity. No expressing opinions in cyberspace. No telling relatives when you're kidnapped and killed for vital organ harvesting. Unjust beatings aplenty by jackboot thug cops. Slave-worker caste to manufacture Made-in-China products for dumping in the USA. Spying, torture, killing . . . nice nation.

In any case my question though is how on earth did a nation like China win the Olympic bid to begin with? A country with a proven track record of human rights violations, as well as overall fraud (how many recalls now?), should NEVER have won a bid.
