"The incident was the third videotape of an arrest to surface in the last week in Los Angeles.
One video showed a Los Angeles Police Department officer dousing a handcuffed suspect in the face with pepper spray as the suspect sat in a patrol car. That video came to light Monday, just days after the LAPD and the FBI launched investigations into another videotape showing a police officer hitting a suspect in the face several times after a foot chase in Hollywood."

- DiggityDugged, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I want this subject to be completely 2 sided, not just my opinions, so here is an opposing view of the situation from someone who was actually there and posted what he saw on the Tucker Max forums:
"Okay kids, I'm here!
Yes, I was indeed at Powell Library at approximately 11:30 on Tuesday night, and yes I did see the entire event as it went down.
Let me start off by saying that the guy DEFINITELY was asking to get his ass kicked. He was being extremely rude with the campus patrol guys (who are college students...this was before the real UCPD got called in). He was not complying with their requests to leave the premises, and he was definitely itching for a fight. I actually know the guy and a few of his friends, and I can tell you that he's the kind of guy that loves to make trouble.
Just as a little backstory, one of the quotes the guy has on his facebook (which he now has taken down) was "I like to find the most difficult solutions to the simplest of problems".
He definitely taunted the UCPD into behaving the way they did with him.
Edit: Many people have questioned the fact that the cops tazed him and asked him to get up, and tazed him again even though he shouldn't have the capability to get up. This was not the case here to my knowledge, because the cops were using their "drive-stun" method which administers less of a jolt than normal. I believe this because anyone who can ramble on about this being the patriot act and yell at the top of his lungs should have the capability of getting up.
Also I'd like to add that our local campus patrol officers (the college guys with the night jobs) and the UCPD have a really good track record, and my experiences with them have been great. In the food chain of good cop/bad cop, these guys are definitely on the "letting ***** slide" part.
I have class with one campus officers who was there last night, so I'm going to ask him what his take was on it and what they were discussing while this was going down."
http://messageboard.tuckermax.com/showthread.php?t=12336 - SinnerChrono, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7This is really a outrage and how this was handled. Those officers should be fired and discharged.
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hah, "discharged"
:/ - wiaht, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I stayed up the whole night creating a website for this and even registered a domain. Please visit http://whereisamericaheadingto.com to vote and express your opinion. We have to do something.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The man in question did three things that broke the law
1. Violated security procedures by not showing his ID when asked for it.
2. Disturbing the peace by causing a scene
3. Resisting arrest even though he was handcuffed he still tried to fight and refusing to follow the Campus Police directions (when the police tell you to do something you do it first and then ask questions later)
Alot of these proceedures stem from the sixties and seventies on how the police handle unarmed suspects. I do not know if any of you remember the rash of PCP users killing police personnel because they tried to be touchy feely so to not outrage the civilians. I have about 11 years of security experience during overseas tours in the military. And I will tell you one thing, if I am confronted with a angry out of control person I am not going to let him get his hands on me and then I am going to restrain him in the safest way possible for MY safety not his. He decided to resist arrest and be difficult so he deserved what he got. All he had to do is follow the Policemans directions and it would have been over in two seconds.
And now a rant to all of the hanky stomping bunny #$&^&* tree hugging card carrying ACLU members out there who are whinning about the taser use, just remember once the suspect put hands on the police it is game on they are allowed to protect themselves there is no suicide pact involved with becoming a member of the police even campus security.
Rant off - wiaht, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2hi diggity yes I have my own digg post here: http://digg.com/videos_people/Website_created_for_UCLA_student_who_got_tasered_by_police_in_library
There's also a poll where you can see the actual % of people who support or doesn't the use of tasers on helpless handcuffed students.
I'm new in digg so I'm not sure how many votes I need to get into the frontpage so please spread the word on the website. We need to gain more momentum and gain more exposure. - DiggityDugged, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@ dragonlord. While i do disagree, that's understandable.
However, even if he was being an ***** and deserved it, I'd draw the line after 2 or 3 taserings. the cops enjoyed the hell out of it and it was sickening. to know he was leaving on his own and was feet away from the exit when the whole event began is sickening - I believe the cops overused their powers of punishment in excess, and while this might only be .1% of the law enforcement out there, I think they deserve to be made example of - they've only hurt the image of police in America in my opinion.
Which is why i really want people to voice their concerns and not just gasp at a random youtube vid and never think about it again. - ccheath, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4alright butthead ... bevis called and wants 1995 back
- jmcv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think the funamental problem lies with the use of tasers. Its very easy for anyone to act like these officers did when they have non-lethal force that they can legally use if required.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Justice was served when the cop triggered the taser, sufficient in my book.
- CorpT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Maybe we could do what all the people who were actually there witnessing it did and get the badge numbers of those cops. That'll show them.
- Shools23, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Kid got what he deserved! Shoulda left when asked to leave. I have no remorse for that smug, obnnoxious, defiant jerk. Cops did the right thing.
- DiggityDugged, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2thanks a ton, it really means a lot to me.
- dshPls, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Web 2.0 Sucks, sorry.
With that said, Handcuffs don't make it impossible to stand up, or kick. Acting like handcuffs are a "fix all" for someone acting insane is a joke.
If it were me, I would have LISTENED to the police, if it were my family, I'd feel exactly the same way, making a scene and then screaming like a crazied fool isn't the correct way to conduct yourself infront of the police EVEN IF you're related to me. - DiggityDugged, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3"I stayed up the whole night creating a website for this and even registered a domain. Please visit http://whereisamericaheadingto.com to vote and express your opinion. We have to do something."
Awesome man, spread the word and this digg post. do you have a digg post for your site too? - Solis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1All cops are scum.
- dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2The political lunatics are having a field day with this one.
http://digg.com/political_opinion/Screaming_UCLA_student_tasered
According to some of these people..
"*****. The police are called in to respond to someone violating security procedures designed to protect students. The student's whole "Patriot Act" spew is proof that he set the whole thing up. He resisted arrest and they followed procedure."
"I believe the idiots are out in force to defend an idiot. Nothing gets idiots going like one of their own being tasered.
Look people, if the cops order you to leave and you don't, then you get what you asked for. The guy isn't dead. He got tasered.
Poor baby. He was a moron to be so arrogant. How DARE, the cops treat me like everyone else here, who has to obey the rules!"
Something needs to be done about this. And I've even read comments about the fact that he was "Muslim" was good reason to do this to him. It's sad and I plan on spreading this information that DiggityDugged provided to my family and friends and ask them to send their messages to these people. Get the word out. This is not right. - dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2 dshPls,
Way to make assumptions about someone you don't even know. And sure, when you can't think of something intelligent to say, insult the fact you think their website is "ugly". Why don't you just tell him he smells like poo, yea thats the ticket!
This kid was already handcuffed. I'm sure if this happened to you or your child/relative, you'd feel the same way. Of course... - dshPls, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Ugh, not only is the site ugly, but you're probably going to be late to your tree hugging class if you can't make a quick trip to starbucks to buy a 5 dollar coffee while talking on a cellphone.
- dshPls, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2ITS GREAT, IT'S AMAZING, JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON!
Just another 70's esque protest, a bunch of people outraging for the sake of outraging. Maybe if he listened they wouldnt have had to remove him with such force, out on the street this would have been more unnacceptable, but in a crowd neutralizing and removing the threat is first priority. He was clearly flipping out and acting insane, if he would have just listening instead of resisting this would be no bg deal. - DiggityDugged, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1oops, nvrmnd!
- kickarse, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I just emailed the school about Digg, let´s hope it scares them enough to change or take action.
