- theNazz, on 02/13/2008, -4/+104Nobody involved with that situation should be on paid leave. Why are those 'supervisors who were present' getting paid to stand back and watch one of their ***** abuse a quadriplegic person? That entire office needs to lose its job.
- kimpat1, on 02/13/2008, -2/+66Why wasn't she arrested? That's what I'd like to know. I'm not surprised, though. Most cops do think that they are above the law, and most have rotten attitudes.
- logicalnoise, on 02/13/2008, -2/+54"I'm telling you this ***** can walk, WATCH!"
- inactive, on 02/13/2008, -2/+49I could not believe this when I saw it. It seems that police are really getting out of hand lately, but I bet they have always acted this way, we are just finding out about it more now with the internet and cameras. These cops need more than to be fired, if anyone else dumped a quadro from his chair, they would be jailed.
I say, lock em up. - SwutDigg, on 02/13/2008, -13/+52Everybody is missing the fact that something else was going on. He was arrested for "charges of fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement." How exactly does a quadriplegic do that? Especially when it is clear from the picture that this guy's wheelchair is not some one-of-a-kind, high-speed, wheelchair/motorcycle combo. Right, wrong, or indifferent, there was something else going on that they are not disclosing.
- KRONI3US, on 02/13/2008, -0/+36It just made me sick to my stomach, my son is a quadriplegic in california, If someone ever treated him like that im not sure how i would react. As it is im totally appaled, wish there was something i can do.. I read how they are "used" to handling people in wheel chairs, I can see they are well trained can you imagine the 30 or so wheelchair bound inmates are being treated inside the jails,, Im pissed
- kayaker712, on 02/13/2008, -1/+36What no Taser?
Maybe thats why the deputy is being suspended. Doesn't she know that you are supposed to Taser disabled people when they are down? Obviously a training issue here. - jasonspurlock, on 02/13/2008, -0/+32This literally made me gasp. Truly awful. This goes along with the story from yesterday regarding the "clean up" of the Florida prison system's corruption.
Dang. - sloworbit, on 02/13/2008, -0/+30Youtube video of the incident
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAGb7_g4Aso - inactive, on 02/13/2008, -0/+26What would happen if I tried that on a disabled cop? Can you say assault with deadly intent?
- nepawoods, on 02/13/2008, -1/+24Paid leave - what the rest of us call vacation, and would consider a reward for a job well done, but we're supposed to accept the police using it to "punish" their own.
- Shaman760, on 02/13/2008, -1/+22My kid told me the other day "Dad I don't trust the government."
Normally I would have said "let's talk about this" but what with all the crap that is going on with the authorities in this country I just said "I agree".
When a 7 year old figures out that kind of stuff, we're in trouble. - glasnostic, on 02/13/2008, -0/+19FTA
"What this boils down to is just treating an individual correctly," he said. "You don't need a policy to tell you that you don't treat someone like this."
IMHO our nations police force is plagued with a collective lack of respect for non police officers. personally i think incidents like this should lead to immediate firing of all involved, black marks on their records that bar them from every obtaining a position in any form of law enforcement, and criminal prosecution.
police officers like these and many other across this country need a wakeup call. they serve us, not the other way around. - glasnostic, on 02/13/2008, -2/+21i have had some good encounters with the police in recent memory, but i have also had some pretty nasty ones. in general, i have noticed a growing lack of respect for civilians.
thats not from digg, thats from personal experience. - nepawoods, on 02/13/2008, -1/+20Jealous of the handicapped. What a first class loser.
"Anyone with a handicap tag, hanger, or in a parking slot should hang their head in shame for the pain inflicted on those supporting their freeloading."
See a doctor about this pain. Maybe a psychiatrist. - inactive, on 02/13/2008, -0/+17Oops. Read that wrong. She's NOT being paid. Still though, she should be in jail.
- scb0825, on 02/13/2008, -0/+17That deputy should not be allowed to work for the the state of Florida again. I hope that man sues the pants off the Sheriff's department and the state as I am sure that is not the first time since 1986 that woman has treated someone like that.
BTW, I know this is wrong... but how does a Quadriplegic person flee and attempt to elude law enforcement? - dagnabbit, on 02/13/2008, -0/+16Shouldn't it be 'paraplegic' since he can move his arms? I thought 'quad' meant all 4 limbs are paralyzed.
Anyway, that bitch cop should be fired and sued for everything she's got. - nepawoods, on 02/13/2008, -2/+17"He was arrested for "charges of fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement." How exactly does a quadriplegic do that?"
In a car? (equipped for a quadriplegic)
Something else going on, that would justify dumping someone on the ground like that? - smileyelly, on 02/13/2008, -2/+17How cruel can you be! Regardless of what he did, there was no reason to dump him on the floor. The cop only did that because he knew the prisoner couldn't fight back like a normal person. That only means that the cops have to attend to him more because he can't get back into the chair by himself. Get a clue!!
- nepawoods, on 02/13/2008, -2/+16http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5h-hklFGiLlaBODh ...
"Sterner can drive a car but has not been able to walk since a 1994 wrestling accident. He has no feeling below his sternum and has partial use of his arms."
"A warrant for Sterner's arrest was issued after an Oct. 25 incident, in which police stopped him while driving a car fitted with hand pedals and cited him for blocking an intersection." - jcroisant4, on 02/13/2008, -6/+20bro . . . don't dump me bro!
- tcsucks, on 02/13/2008, -1/+15I'm surprised this video escaped the clutches of our beloved police system.
- schroeder, on 02/13/2008, -2/+15I'm sure this type of ***** has been happening for decades. It's not new, just that it's being exposed more often via the internet. ***** cops != police state.
- BTP48, on 02/13/2008, -1/+14Unbelievable! I am in a power wheel chair and could not out run the law, how could this person in a manual wheelchair and a quadriplegic? Bogus stuff! Cops/Sheriffs out of control as usual! Everyone in that room should be fired and never allowed to work for law enforcement or any job that puts them in a position of dealing with people. A factory job is in order, let them take on a monster machine of some kind in an assembly line factory job. Pitiful & disgraceful that this is allowed in America. Again evidence of the down fall of our great country, destruction from within.
- khail250, on 02/13/2008, -1/+13dugg down for being a moron, "furst place"...
- logicalnoise, on 02/13/2008, -1/+13followed by a nonchalant "Oh"
- inactive, on 02/13/2008, -0/+12What a sad little ***** you are.
From your emotional maturity I'm guessing you are about 15.
Am I right? - Pinkertinkle, on 02/13/2008, -0/+10We should tie up that deputies arms and legs and dump her out of a chair repeatedly.
- oldhick, on 02/13/2008, -3/+13This is why the population should be armed. Do you really want the only people with guns to be those pigs? They don't even police themselves. They should be fired. The commissioner should resign. The Mayor should get involved. Outrageous.
- alex7575, on 02/13/2008, -0/+10Why don't we just gather all those handicapped, retarded, etc people in a big island and set those ***** on fire?
m1cobra I'm wondering if you're just stupid here on Digg, or is that a full time thing?
As a father of a child with Down Syndrome, I can easily say that your "retardness" dwarfs my son's. - Bluerayusa, on 02/13/2008, -2/+12shocking video, what else will be next? these "incidents" are becoming more and more frequent, next thing they will be beating on kids and pregnant women. I hope the sheriff suspended without pay, retrained, pay docked and fined for her actions. I mean ' who in the hell would just drop a quadriplegic to the floor like that'.
- martinherrera, on 02/13/2008, -0/+10yeah, that's jacked up for sure. She needs to be criminally charged for that *****
- iidestined, on 02/13/2008, -1/+11Alot of cops are just bullies. It just makes it harder to trust the good ones.
- erzy, on 02/13/2008, -0/+10I saw this today on the news, it's completely ridiculous. I feel bad for the man for being humiliated like that. This was a clear display of abuse of authority.
- iRoy, on 02/13/2008, -1/+11Wow. How is it possible to respect someone with a badge and a gun when they are doing ***** like this across the entire nation?
That kind of behavior is just low. ***** the police. - inactive, on 02/13/2008, -0/+10Damn those people who cant walk... They should park in the back and crawl! That will teach them no to cut off there legs for extra privileges! /s
LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. Which one of these are you suggesting we take away so you can pay less taxes scum bag? - arcangelgabriel, on 02/13/2008, -1/+11As a police officer for 18 years now I can only say...."WHAT THE ***** WERE YOU MORONS THINKING?!!"
Jesus Christ, just what we need.
On behalf of cops with a brain, let me say we're not all like this. - Sean42, on 02/13/2008, -0/+8She needs to be arrested. Period.
- ZedSumGame, on 02/13/2008, -0/+8A quad has some degree of impairment in both arms and legs. They may still be able to move their arms but not their fingers, for example.
- scorchedearth, on 02/13/2008, -0/+8At least there are some reasonable cops out there. Hats off to you sir.
- Houndstooth, on 02/13/2008, -1/+8"next thing they will be beating on kids" http://digg.com/comedy/Jerk_Cop_Harasses_Skaters
- gabrielg01, on 02/13/2008, -0/+7Cops are merely the mirror image of criminals, so don't expect a pretty picture. It just happens that they work on this side of the law, but that doesn't mean they are good people.
- mGARANDEUR1, on 02/13/2008, -0/+7The bad ones make the rest of them look bad. Every time I see a cop I'm wondering what he is going to do to me. Is he going to frame me for something, or just harass me for his own sick pleasure? Let's put it this way, I've taken plenty of ***** from cops for doing nothing wrong. I'll go to a convenience store late at night (pulling an all nighter to study) to get a sandwich and cops will stop me and ask me what I am doing and why. Then when I tell them, they question me about it. It's sad that this country has to be like that.
- EarlOfLade, on 02/13/2008, -2/+9It doesn't matter if he had been arrested for 1st degree murder, nobody should be treated this way. No excuse, period!
- doctorfungi, on 02/13/2008, -6/+13An article from Fox News being dugg up on digg? Why hasn't the internet imploded yet?
- Lyk4n, on 02/13/2008, -5/+11This has nothing to do with Sharpton's racism or lack thereof. Take that somewhere else.
- MikeSD34, on 02/13/2008, -0/+6They were driving a car.
- nepawoods, on 02/13/2008, -0/+6Quadriplegia, also known as tetraplegia, is a symptom in which a human experiences paralysis affecting all four limbs, although not necessarily total paralysis or loss of function.
http://www.answers.com/quadriplegia&r=67 - jgzman, on 02/13/2008, -0/+6You have to convict them, first. THEN they can get what's coming to them.
