- oldugly2, on 01/22/2009, -24/+308Can we please stop the knuckleheaded policies we have on cuba...
We honor and revel in doing business with china, the largest and nuclear armed communist country on the planet.
Yet we embargo this tiny impoverished country just off our coast?
Now that we have gotten rid of the shurch crazy ignorant republicans can we please...
please please please president Obama...
Please please please Congresss...
Hillery... come on girl...pretty please?
can we please just stop being stupid about Cuba
The Castros wouldn't last 3 moths after the embargo lifts and the cubans can travel freely from the US to their homes. - Garlik, on 01/22/2009, -29/+299Fox News calls Obama a socialist in 3...2...1...
- oderdigg, on 01/22/2009, -9/+131Didn't they already do that?
- TrAzE28, on 01/22/2009, -28/+113Wow Castro praising some other than his butt buddy Chavez. . .now that's a thought
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -11/+80i thought he was dead
- chrissku, on 01/22/2009, -19/+81Now that we have an adult in charge of our country once again we should look at ending the stupid embargo on Cuba. I don't think Cubans have plans for world domination. They're too busy trying to figure out where their next meal is coming from. End the embargo Mr President.
- nbluth, on 01/22/2009, -4/+63Can you imagine all the people that would travel to/from that country within the first day if the embargo is lifted, it might give a little boost to any company that offers transport there.
- Grazfather, on 01/22/2009, -16/+69American propaganda towards cuba is ridiculous.
- oderdigg, on 01/22/2009, -10/+61As a Canadian, I'm very happy to read that an American has the brains to see this as it is.
Bravo. - petebot, on 01/22/2009, -5/+52Why are the Cubans our enemies?
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 01/22/2009, -1/+39I assure you he is not alone. I've yet to meet anyone who can explain exactly WHY we continue this embargo with Cuba and not China. In fact, I've rarely heard of anyone who has even bothered to try.
- altgeeky1, on 01/22/2009, -3/+32The embargo is in place not because Cuba is Communist... Communist China's biggest friends in the world are pro-outsourcing GOP crowd.
The embargo is in place because the US rhetoric against Castro was SO personal, that ending the embargo would cause cats and dogs to mate. The world would end. It's about saving face (or not losing it).
Then there's always the issue of the Miami Mafia producing enough votes to swing the state in almost any election. - AndrewMoyer, on 01/22/2009, -2/+31Good thing Biden doesn't make the decisions then...
- Hetman, on 01/22/2009, -2/+29Thats your argument? China has way more human rights violation. They have far more propoganda and censorship. But hey since we do not call them a dicatorship it is allright to do business with them.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 01/22/2009, -5/+32Since when does he care about helping Obama? He just stated his opinion of the man.
- oboshoe, on 01/22/2009, -1/+28We'll have to wait till the media tells us before we know if its good or bad.
- omgwtflawl, on 01/22/2009, -4/+30Joe Biden is the biggest opponent of normalizing Cuban relations on the hill. Obama might want to end the embargo, but he will at least face opposition from Biden internally.
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -2/+28"...told her the revolution that put him in power on January 1, 1959, had outlasted 10 U.S. presidents."
Yeah, because we have elections dumbass. - inactive, on 01/22/2009, -1/+27As a refugee of Cuba, I am glad you understand that the Castro Regime is bad for Cuba and you understand that Cuba is impoverished. Many unfortunately think they have a great health care system and educational system (both I can attest are not even close to good).
What really caught my attention was "Castros wouldn't last 3 months after the embargo". I hope you are right my friend. I would be interested to knowing what do we do if they last and continue to make their people live in fear and poverty. What do we do if the regime is strengthened?
Traveling there would only support the regime because spending money in Cuba means money in the hands of the government. My concern would be people traveling there after the embargo is lifted and staying in the small tourist area, giving the regime more money and power. My hope is that, if the embargo is lifted and more travelers come to Cuba:
the tourists will explore outside the tourist areas and see how bad it is in Cuba and protest against their conditions, compel their nation's leaders to take action against the Castro regime
and/or the Cuban people gain a sense of empowerment from the tourists and world leaders to rebel against Castro.
I am by no means a clairvoyant and maybe my hopes are wrong. Either way, we need Castro out. - armynixon, on 01/22/2009, -16/+42Someone should tell Castro that he's not really helping Obama by saying this.
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -8/+30Oh come on. Obama is a socialist. National healthcare system, big government infrastructure project employing 3 million people, million man youth corp.
These things could be used positively, and maybe they will be, but no one can deny that these things are socialist. I'm not saying COMMUNIST, just socialist. Please learn your basic terms, Digg. It is a fact that Obama has socialist policies. - skiindude22, on 01/22/2009, -33/+55Is it a good thing when dictators start praising our president?
- emjaymj, on 01/22/2009, -5/+27"Carl" Marx. Goes to show how much you know what you're talking about.
- Hetman, on 01/22/2009, -12/+34Do you have a problem with us conducting business with China also?
- maliath, on 01/22/2009, -6/+26I bet you think Tupac is dead too, huh?
- mountainman150, on 01/22/2009, -8/+27I just want to go to Cuba!
- USAOwnz, on 01/22/2009, -15/+33They'll call him a communist and then fascist, even though they're different ideologies . And then they're try to link the oath thing with all that and make a big conspiracy out of it like the "terrorist fist bump" Al Qaeda, Communist the whole time, probably in bed with B Huessein....... more on that on Sean Hannity w/ Ann *****
- fleischner, on 01/22/2009, -6/+22With friends like these...
- RadiatedAnt, on 01/22/2009, -0/+15you probably inhaled like a retard...
- mrkmrk, on 01/22/2009, -21/+35Well, he is. Fox saying it through their clenched, lying teeth won't change that. The problem is that most people that voted for Obama either don't care that he's a socialist or don't want to admit to themselves that he is and they are, as well.
- Balanced, on 01/22/2009, -1/+15I think he's trying to call Obama a socialist.
- GhostFreeman, on 01/22/2009, -1/+15Did Putin praise him yet?
- Hetman, on 01/22/2009, -5/+18I agree. If we would have stop the embargo 20 years ago it would probably be one of our allies by now. I mean half of florida is Cuban anyways. They are part of our cultural identity already. We should be embracing them.
- IphtashuFitz, on 01/22/2009, -8/+21$20 says the opinion column was written by somebody other than Fidel Castro.
- mface, on 01/22/2009, -14/+27Why's socialism such a curse word in USA? Works fine in northern europe.
- rdoger6424, on 01/22/2009, -2/+15@mj
At least he didn't spell it "marks", give him that. - solid12345, on 01/23/2009, -4/+16Who needs propaganda when you can just look out to the Florida keys and see Cubans getting eaten by sharks trying to reach America.
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -3/+14check this out,

he's 30 !!!!! - reddfox321, on 01/22/2009, -1/+12Hes in Cuba ;)
- mrseptic, on 01/22/2009, -3/+14"are you 12?"
I'm 12. Explain it to me. - EnnuiStudent, on 01/22/2009, -2/+13@Hetman
I like how you continued to logically argue with Sluglas after his dick tater joke. Don't you think he kinda ruined his credibility there? - fugazied, on 01/22/2009, -11/+22The closest thing you've seen to socialism is Bush buying up interests in banks. What 'socialist' move has Obama done? Has he bought back infrastructure so it is state owned? You can't name anything can you? Promoting health care for all is not socialist, go read a book.
- MrTea, on 01/22/2009, -0/+10Why the ***** would they do that?
- loudnobnoxious, on 01/23/2009, -3/+13He does it just so people get all warm and fuzzy and forget who he really is. Sadly, it works.
- naner, on 01/22/2009, -4/+13I just want to be able to legally get some of their cigars.
- Hetman, on 01/22/2009, -2/+11So did China until they realized the benefits of capitalism. Not that they are a completly Capitalistic country these days. But they have came a long way from the 60s and are still progressing. This is in part due to trade with America.
- Hetman, on 01/22/2009, -2/+11Personally I would seek out a remedy for the boil. Just like I am seeking out a remedy for Cuba. An increase in trade with Cuba would be beneficial for both countries. But if you want you can ignore the boil until it finally gets infected.
- dvpower, on 01/22/2009, -0/+9Why the sarcasm tag?
Democratic socialist parties are mainstream in Europe. For example in the UK, the Labour party (the Government party) is a socialist party ('though some might disagree about the extent of it's socialism).
There seems to often be a tendency in the US to dismiss socialism as some kind of fringe ideology or to equate it to communism. - inactive, on 01/22/2009, -10/+19Thats because its never carried out correctly.
- oderdigg, on 01/22/2009, -6/+14Bush didn't seem pleased.
