- imacommi, on 02/06/2008, -14/+772I'm not a conspiracy theorist but there is definitely something shady going on here...
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -38/+530I think the war in Iran has begun. But we can't hear about it because of the outage!
- Ritterbeck, on 02/06/2008, -13/+436I declare shenanigans.
- AtHomeBoy2000, on 02/06/2008, -15/+352These are not accidents. 1.. ok an accident. 2... ok, PLAUSIBLE. 3... very hard to believe. 4.... something is up. 5.... no question.

Sorry, I've always wanted to do that. - renegadeafk, on 02/06/2008, -20/+302A communications disruption could mean only one thing: Invasion
- Zyxion, on 02/06/2008, -12/+226My warp pipe to world 6 was cut =(
- Egoist, on 02/06/2008, -5/+196Previously only 3 cables had been cut. A 4th was shut down for power problems.
- DiggityDugged, on 02/06/2008, -25/+208Jeez, all I've heard on TV all day is Super Tuesday news. Whoever is behind setting up the timing of this attack is a genius, since Super Tuesday news should take precedent for several days, making this huge news swept under the rug. It seems as if whoever is going to attack Iran will do so because they just launched their space program this week, which is supposed to be a cover for developing ballistic missile technologies:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7230396.stm
However, Russia should be off the list of suspects since not too long ago they were selling missiles to Iran:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4500878.stm
And China is too busy policing their own Internet unfairly to worry about another country's Internet.
So it appears as if the war tactics mentioned in the recent movie Charlie's War may have been playing a role in the past few years in the Middle East. I've heard that we're on the flip side and have been giving weapons to Israel often in recent years. So that would mean the cable cuts were probably USA, or Israel with help from USA.
The one good thing about all of this is that, according to BBC, the first two cables should be repaired within the next week. So if this IS actually someone cutting these cables maliciously to open an attack window... then the attack should be within the next week. Hopefully we don't have to wait too long before knowing what the hell is really going on.

- Unclekoolaid, on 02/06/2008, -5/+132Hey Farva, what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy ***** on the wall and the mozzarella sticks?
- diggcensors, on 02/06/2008, -9/+97I think scientology is trying to stop the spread of Anonymous.
- Richandler, on 02/06/2008, -2/+80I love how at the end it again says that it was a ship Anchor. So, just by coincidence 5 ships drop anchor on 5 undersea cables with 2 weeks. Or at least this is what the initial reports speculate. Man that is just too funny.
- Dumbledorito, on 02/06/2008, -9/+78So who wants the 'net cut off more: Religious and dictatorial governments who don't want their people reading "the wrong thing," or trigger-happy western nations who don't want images, accounts, or footage of carnage to get out of the area once they decide to drop the hammer?
- CannedMango, on 02/06/2008, -1/+69Jim's Deep Sea Internet Cabling Warehouse is way ahead of you

- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -21/+83Typical Digger--not only is he an expert on foreign relations (after all, he is armed with news.bbc.co.uk!), but he can rule out pretty much everyone but the US and Israel! Great work, kid!
- KraftDinner101, on 02/06/2008, -5/+66Heres some pics showing where the cables are: http://www.ilovebonnie.net/2008/02/06/apparently-s ...

- RuffRidr, on 02/06/2008, -5/+60On a Slashdot story similar to this, commentors proved that links into Iran are still viable and you could still get to website over there. Wouldn't some of those websites be reporting on this?
- TheZorch, on 02/06/2008, -8/+62I love it when the government thinks the average citizen is stupid. This is so blatantly deliberate it isn't funny.
- banmaster, on 02/06/2008, -3/+53You mean 'power' problems.
- Pneub, on 02/06/2008, -1/+48I find it very odd that I haven't seen anything about this show up on international CNN. Knowing they aren't talking about it makes me want to believe something is going on.
- jrak, on 02/06/2008, -4/+45"Sorry, I've always wanted to do that."
And well done it was. Dugg. - inactive, on 02/06/2008, -7/+47Well, as long as Wired thinks it's ok.....
- Sogui, on 02/06/2008, -17/+54You guys this is the same FOURTH CABLE that was reported on yesterday? This report is including UNREPORTED damage to a cable back on the 23rd, which really never made the news because it was insignificant.
"The first cut in the undersea Internet cable occurred on January 23, in the Flag Telcoms FALCON submarine cable which was not reported."
You guys DO need to take off your tin-foil hats when you Cables #3 and 4 (aka 5) have all been reported with glaring inaccuracies... people claiming Iran has lot internet based on ONE router when the vast majority of the country says "we haven't noticed a thing" and then Cable #4 affects Qatar/UAE, NOT Iran... and then it gets reported again today and mislabeled as a FIFTH cable.
This is why I still don't use Digg as a serious news source. - wreckosaurus, on 02/06/2008, -6/+41http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/02/who-cut-t ...
