- zalame, on 01/06/2009, -12/+115Sad.
- chrisjj, on 01/06/2009, -29/+117Is the mainstream media in the USA waking up from their hoodwinked stupor at last? What chance this on ABC TV news - probably zero.
- mikbunn, on 01/06/2009, -33/+115This just in: war kills people. Both sides are full of bigoted zealots that need to get over that desert and get on with their ***** lives instead of taking other people's.
- irishjays, on 01/06/2009, -62/+133It's very sad that this was brought to the innocent. Though Hamas has been known to use vehicles like ambulances to maneuver through the streets and they also fire rockets into Israel from residential neighborhoods. It's a strategy. If they use ambulances to move rockets around town, and someone starts blowing up all the ambulances in Gaza, who looks worse in the eyes of the public? Then drum up public outcry by showing the dead children who lived in the house next door to their rocket launcher. Then they regroup and buy new ambulances thus gaining support from the people in the villages and the media at large, because they are helping, buying ambulances and medical supplies. It's all PR, they don't care about women and children who live near by, as dying in the pursuit of Islam is one of their highest honors.
- bigp3rm, on 01/06/2009, -6/+68Nah we will just see more of Travolta.
- Uthman, on 01/06/2009, -31/+891,062 Israelis and at least 4,876 Palestinians have been killed since September 29, 2000.
123 Israeli children have been killed by Palestinians and 1,050 Palestinian children have been killed by Israelis since September 29, 2000.
8,341 Israelis and 33,034 Palestinians have been injured since September 29, 2000
Israel has been targeted by at least 65 UN resolutions and the Palestinians have been targeted by none
1 Israeli is being held prisoner by Palestinians, while 10,756 Palestinians are currently imprisoned by Israel
Israel currently has 223 Jewish-only settlements and ‘outposts’ built on confiscated Palestinian land. Palestinians do not have any settlements on Israeli land
figures do not take into consideration the recent conflict - geekee, on 01/06/2009, -72/+127Hamas stages attacks from homes and schools. They are the ones responsible for civilian deaths
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090106/ap_on_re_mi_ea ...
"The Israeli army said its soldiers came under fire from militants hiding in the school and responded. It accused Gaza's Hamas rulers of "cynically" using civilians as human shields. Area residents confirmed the account, saying militants were seen staging attacks from the area." - flammablewater, on 01/06/2009, -37/+88And people wonder why so many Palestinians are willing to blow themselves up in crowded Israeli streets. Desperation is a terrible thing, and violence only begets more violence.
- pintomp3, on 01/06/2009, -5/+48They are not even allowed into Gaza to report. Just like what happened in Jenin.
- chumprock, on 01/06/2009, -12/+55If supplies are that bad, the UN should step up and cross that frickin border.
- InfamousAtheist, on 01/06/2009, -82/+123Israel: committing war crimes in the name of religion and zionism.
- radu79, on 01/06/2009, -5/+40They have a lot in common with Hamas. But the sad part is that Israel has a HUGE propaganda machine and they get a lot of money and support from the US, while Hamas is viewed as the bad guys.
I think they are both just as bad. They both target civilians and show no regard for human life. - durruticolumn, on 09/18/2009, -9/+43
I really hate when people take a complex, nuanced conflict that involves colonialism, european anti-semitism, jewish-muslim relations, racism, occupation, terrorism, religion, culture, politics, economics, and 80 years of history, and boil it down to two groups in the desert that hate each other.
This conflict is not simple. If thinking it is helps you ignore it, so be it, but stop presenting that idea as truth. - BdaBeerman, on 01/06/2009, -11/+45More than sad. Its criminal.
- muzfuz, on 01/06/2009, -7/+36kind of hard with the IDF blocking anyone from entering.
- dalittle, on 01/06/2009, -21/+49Israel is doing everything in its power to make sure that Hamas never becomes an irrelevant fringe organization. Every mother, brother, uncle, girlfriend, etc they kill today recruits more for Hamas. Hamas recruits with now nothing to lose. Israel is creating their own problems and are clearly wrong.
- GRANDPAMUNSTER, on 06/11/2009, -6/+33It is unreal, I think our corporate media is getting worse and worse every day. Round the clock coverage of Travolta or Blagojovich, and 1 minute of coverage about this awful war.
- burkay, on 01/06/2009, -13/+40Are you ***** out of your mind? The ***** Zionists are pouring bombs down the civil Palestinians' heads and all you can come up with is "well, Hamas was hiding behind them"?? What the ***** is wrong with you people? They are killing women and babies out there. That is against all the things that I value, no matter who is using whom for what.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -18/+45Well, at least they have something in common with Hamas.
- kemp34, on 01/06/2009, -9/+35So a few hundred rockets is the same as feeding 1.5 MILLION people?
- waspbr, on 01/06/2009, -6/+30Exactly, there are over 1 million people on the gaza strip living in poverty, fear and sub-human conditions. That is exactly the kind of environment where groups Hamas can flourish, and I am afraid that the escalation of violence is only going to make it worse.
- CedEx, on 01/06/2009, -6/+30And where would they go? The borders are controlled and closed.
- warchant, on 01/06/2009, -6/+29that would require the UN to actually do something...which is the one thing they are NOT good at.
- tgc1, on 01/06/2009, -7/+29Who is saying that? So the moment someone disagrees with Israel it means we all hate the Jews? Get a ***** grip you lunatic. This is like saying because we disagree with Bush's policies that we hate Americans. How ***** dumb are you?
- Rylock, on 01/06/2009, -3/+25The difference is that Israel is supposedly a civilized country. A few days ago, Israeli government high-ups held at a press conference and just that bunch of fat cats casually joking around while their troops killed hundreds of innocents is enough to make one sick.
And people are still calling an invasion in response to a small rockets fire defense? Really? - Charun, on 01/06/2009, -7/+28Why does the world expect palistinians to be forced off their land and systematically oppressed for sixty years and not respond?
- Charun, on 01/06/2009, -7/+26They didn't. What fantasy world are you living in?
Hospitals have shortages because Isreal has been blockading Gaza for months. - radu79, on 01/06/2009, -11/+30The world hates the jews? Are you ***** kidding me? That's why the jes get billions of dollars every years from the US? That's why US vetoes all the resolutions against Israel?
- SuperCujo, on 01/06/2009, -9/+27How would they know if they lived next to a Hamas stronghold?
And anyway, they are living in a forced ghetto, they have nowhere to go. - reformist1, on 01/06/2009, -22/+40it is horrible, what happening in Gaza. innocent civilians are the victims of the cowardly and immoral war tactics of violent maniacs. they should rise up and refuse being used as human shields. all people have a right to live in peace and no one carrying a AK47 is allowed to take that peace away for his own political gain.
- Leviathan433, on 01/06/2009, -7/+25Right, ample time to go where exactly?
- bigdoof, on 01/06/2009, -3/+20Yeah, I don't understand the logic. If some guy in downtown LA was lobbing grenades from the top of a hospital, I don't think the rational solution would be to level the hospital, with everyone still in it, with a MOAB.
- Triticum, on 01/06/2009, -3/+201. Uthman did not make an argument. Uthman listed some figures, without citing a source. One could easily infer an argument based on the numbers, but no argument was posited.
2. What are the many facts missing? - Barackalypse, on 01/06/2009, -17/+34Funny that some people only seem to care where Israel's missiles land and don't seem too concerned where the ones Hamas fires end up. Also, I think you all ignore the Iran-Hamas link a bit too much. These low oil prices really hurt Iran (and Russia) and conveniently since these Hamas rocket attacks started the price of oil is up 38%.
- bigdoof, on 01/06/2009, -7/+24Is Hamas staging attacks...from within UN buildings and refugee camps now?
http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/01/06/israel.g ... - chumprock, on 01/06/2009, -5/+21The rockets aren't smuggled, they are produced in Gaza, using Israeli Fertilizer as fuel.
- dungbeetle, on 01/06/2009, -16/+32Here's the thing about Israel's tactics vs Hamas tactics. When Hamas does something stupid, a few people get injured or killed at a time. It's terrorism. Israel's tactics involve destroying everything that may have something to do with Hamas, and surprise, everything might just be like that since they use schools and the like as bases. How about instead of a blanket destruction of everything in Palestine, use tact and intelligence. Heck, even the US in Iraq has ALMOST always done better than just annihilating a civilian population because it may contain a terrorist. Israel's tactics are more of a genocide or holocaust. They may not want to kill civilians but they sure don't care if they do and both are equal in my eyes.

I know its hard to understand, but its called, Diplomacy. You may want to look that up in a dictionary.
To those that say "Well they tried and it didnt work", what Israel is doing now, obviously isnt working. - computershack, on 01/06/2009, -2/+17Hamas political wing provided security, hospitals, aide, food and schooling when that ***** Yasser Arafats government was incapable of doing.
- BrettFromTibet, on 01/06/2009, -41/+56Israel has tried to reason with Hamas - tried to give them autonomous land rights - and they continued to attack civilians with rockets around the clock...
So this seems unfortunate, but understandable.. as any nation on earth would invade an attacking neighbor.
The USA certainly would. At the blink of an eye.
Why does the world expect Israel to take civilian attacks and terrorism softly... and meekly suffer from violent provocation that no other country in the world tolerate for 2 seconds? - kigcoopa84, on 01/06/2009, -14/+29If the Israel wanted to eradicate the Palestinians, they could do it in a matter of days. Israel wants Hamas to stop attacking them. It should be obvious by now that cease fires and international pressure will not stop them from firing rockets into Israel. What will stop the rockets are the persition guided bombs being dropped on the rocket, one by one. If Hamas chose to fire the rockets around hospitals, apartments, and homes they know exactly what’s going to happen. If I lived in Gaza and someone fired a rocket in my back yard I would get the hell out of there. How many rockets need to be fired into Israel before they are allowed to respond?
- darkknight1974, on 01/06/2009, -7/+22glad somebody said it.
- zeblith, on 01/06/2009, -3/+17USA: Pouring the money they don't have and borrow from China into weapons for Israel.
- computershack, on 01/06/2009, -2/+16Try negotiating with them the same way we did with the IRA. We managed to stop an 80 year campaign simply by talking. Unfortunately, we tried the Isreali method from the 1960's until the 90's when we finally realised it doesn't work. Isreal has our lessons to learn from but refuses to.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -3/+17Or... "people are safe in their homes when Israel stops bombing them".
- elhal, on 01/06/2009, -4/+18I am Arab and have some relatives in Gaza. One of my cousin's neighbors was even injured. I must say that Israel is the more reasonable side in this though. I know we are taking a risk in staying there, but there is definitely a lot of feeling that the groups that keep attacking Israel should stop hiding among civilians. As much as I'd like an end to the violence, I don't see any reason Israel would stop since they know that they'll keep getting attacked.
- digg1520, on 01/06/2009, -5/+18Too bad the Israelis don't let reporters into Gaza who could confirm this.
- pintomp3, on 01/06/2009, -3/+16And 3 billion US taxpayer dollars go to pay for this every year.
- Charun, on 01/06/2009, -1/+13Democracy sure does suck.
- burkay, on 01/06/2009, -11/+23I am tired of this Hamas uses civilians as shield *****. Do you know what Gazza strip looks like? Open a map and check it. Then check how many people lives in there. Where do you want those people to be located? I mean, Israel ***** stole their whole land and left them a piece of desolate patch. And now they just want to place the last pieces to complete the jigsaw. You are all ***** lost in translation. This is all about the "promised lands of Israel". They will devour Palestine and then they will devour Iraq, then Syria and Iran. Hamas is nothing but a stuck pawn. Hamas is not even a factor in this game board.
