Ex-cop may be charged in case of man Tasered to death
cnn.com — A police officer shocked a handcuffed Baron "Scooter" Pikes nine times with a Taser after arresting him on a cocaine charge. He stopped twitching after seven, according to a report. Soon afterward, Pikes was dead. Now the officer, since fired, could end up facing criminal charges in Pikes' January death after medical examiners ruled it a homicide.

The fact that the man may have broken the law does not justify taking his life, and making his mother sad for the rest of her life.
- rootnik, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2"After he was given that drive stun to the chest, he was pulled out of the car onto the concrete, " Williams told CNN. "He was electroshocked two more times, which two officers noted that he had no neuromuscular response to those last two 50,000-volt electroshocks."
He shocked him so many times that his nerves were not even responding to the shocks anymore... and then he shocked him again. All while he was handcuffed. Worst taser story ever posted on Digg? - TheoDork, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2It's not up for me to decide whether this was a crime committed based on race, or (more simply) a case of a police officer using his power to apply his own personal justice, but what I will say is that I'm quite shocked that the DA is even considering prosecuting this (now former) officer. Normally, prosecutors turn a blind-eye to law enforcement abuses of power.
Officers are to serve and protect us and our communities, and its when they mistake their badge for a "licence to kill" that they are serving to do the exact opposite than what they are sworn to do. - suttercain, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1Another reason drugs laws should be abolished.
- timsline, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Nothing to do with drug laws. There will always be some people who shouldn't be given a badge and a weapon.
- canofig, on 07/23/2008, -0/+0True, but had it not been for drug laws he would have never been in this situation.

- canofig, on 07/23/2008, -1/+0Another casualty in the War on Drugs. It started with a racist agenda so it's only fitting that it should continue in that way. I wonder how much longer he would've lived if it was legal for him to decide what he put in his body. I don't know about everyone else... but I'd probably choose cocaine over getting tased... nine times...
- timsline, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1He was probably already dead and they continued to shock him? A dead guy isn't putting up a fight. Of course they should charge this ex-cop with murder.
- ncnavguy, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1This is ***** up but I hate how CNN tries to inject race into every issue they can. This would be ***** up regardless of the color of the officer or the assailent. I love how they have at the bottom a link to Jena,La and and a banner for their black in america special. Sometimes things go beyond the color of ones skin and should be offensive to anyone.
