Evangelists cleared of 'hate-crime' charges
onenewsnow.com — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has upheld a lower court's ruling that homosexuals were illegally added to the list of groups protected under the Keystone State's so-called "hate crimes" law. Christians should oppose such laws through any means because trying to control a citizen's thoughts is both legally and morally wrong.

- CoolHandLuke70, on 07/29/2008, -2/+8People should be able to think and say anything they want as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others. Thought crime is *****! Forced homogenization of thoughts and perspectives is disgusting!
- 0Xonox0, on 07/29/2008, -2/+4It sounds like the amendment to the hate crimes law which included homosexuals was ruled unconstitutional because of the way it was attached to an unrelated law. So the court didn't really rule that people had the right to harass gays, rather the law was just passed incorrectly.
- MarkEarhart, on 07/29/2008, -1/+7I think hate crime laws are bull ***** in any case. An employment non discrimination law protecting the GLBT people is appropriate. If employers are able to fire someone just because they disapprove of their private business that opens the floodgate that would enable them to fire anyone for just about any reason they choose. I can see making an exception for clergy in churches whose official positions on homosexuality oppose it, but even they shouldn't be allowed to fire the janitor for what he/she decides to do in their bedroom.
When the local GOP starts foaming at the mouth about employment non discrimination I always ask them if they are going to pay for every homosexual employee that is fired to draw unemployment benefits out of their own pockets. Needless to say they don't like me very much. Breaks my heart....puke!!! - zortnac, on 07/29/2008, -0/+6Hate crimes legislation doesn't aim to control or punish thoughts, it aims to recognize when a crime against an individual is simultaneously a harmful act of intolerance against a group.
