Evangelist's compound raided in child porn case
cnn.com — FOUKE, Arkansas (AP) -- FBI agents and state police raided an evangelist's headquarters Saturday as part of a child pornography investigation and said they planned to remove several children from the complex, run by a man previously accused of child abuse.

- paintgrl, on 09/21/2008, -0/+62One wonders how there are so many victims for predators like this scum bag. I can't imagine putting some freaky preacher before my child.
- badassninja, on 09/21/2008, -7/+2Don't you love how they didn't even bother to wait to see if the search turned up anything, anything at all, before they wrote this up. It won't matter if they find nothing there at all. The story that says "nothing found at child porn church case" sure as ***** won't make it to front page of digg.
- hmunkey, on 09/21/2008, -2/+9Sorry to hijack a comment, but this is an exact copy of what i submitted an hour before this guy.

So why does he get to submit a direct dupe? Same url and everything.- Dakk, on 09/21/2008, -0/+10Your link is to the actual article, the dupe's link is off an RSS feed. Dupe's link is formatted differently but does point to the same content.
Basically, a "top digger" can sit watching RSS feeds COME TO THEM and cut/paste (or even *cough* script) the link from the rss feed into digg for submission. Once a "top digger" has a submission, their social network automatically diggs their content up to the front page. Thus, their submission beats yours and yours goes away.
In that scenario, it's one step away from just having digg automatically FEED any RSS content into itself and have people vote. Who would need a "top digger" then? - latrosicarius, on 09/21/2008, -0/+7cuz he has lots of script-using friends

the intelligent, though not very popular, do all the work. - jinxation, on 09/21/2008, -0/+2As a kicker...the guy got out of jail a few years back. Tax evasion...and the fact that he stole his dead wife's body. He was attempting to resurrect her, and had her in his freezer till built up his MP.

On another note, the town of Fouke is full of racist rednecks. It's riddled with meth addiction and labs. They're as crazy as Alamo, but for other unrelated reasons. The city council has been trying to get the group out of town ever since they moved there. My theory has always been he was crazier than them, which made the townspeople jealous
- meowomon, on 09/21/2008, -25/+95Another "christian" who abuses children. I'll be willing to bet he is a registered rethuglican.

- patpl22391, on 09/21/2008, -34/+13That's extremely offensive. No REAL Christian would EVER do this. He was using Religion as a cover for his perverted ways. Way to generalize.

- toxictonic, on 09/21/2008, -8/+33Christians base their morals on a book written thousands of years ago. REAL people base their morals on empathy and understanding.
- macweirdo42, on 09/21/2008, -4/+28Hey, guess what? No religion = nobody being able to use religion as a cover for anything.
- smurfsahoy, on 09/21/2008, -1/+27That's very convenient how you define "Christian" only by the people who generate good PR for Christians.
If you can get any major Christian organization to filter people this way BEFORE something terrible happens, that'd lend a lot of credence to your theory, I dare say. - KaiserArny, on 09/21/2008, -1/+19How do you differentiate a real Christian from the others?
Are they Christians up until they do something bad? - patpl22391, on 09/21/2008, -15/+3I think you should judge each person according to their own deeds and abilities, which is stated in the Bible. I don't condemn an entire religion for someone who claimed to be a christian. It's like blaming the entire Muslim faith for what the radical elements in their religion did to us. I know digg hates Christians because they all think just because they go to nice colleges and have nice liberal professors that they are smarter than everyone else and look down and scoff on us normal folk. Bury away.
- smurfsahoy, on 09/21/2008, -2/+15"No REAL Christian would EVER do this."
This involves an implicit generalization about all Christians, which is in direct contradiction to your other statement: "I think you should judge each person according to their own deeds and abilities"
Make up your mind - Is there a group of "real" Christians to whom you ascribe certain beliefs before you've met them (necessary in order for you to defend the "real" Christians)? Or do you follow what the Bible says?
P.S. - It's a trick question, since the Bible is completely internally contradictory on this point, just like you. - macweirdo42, on 09/21/2008, -1/+14Pat, I gotta ask you... Without a guarantee of some sort of afterlife, how easy do you think it would be to talk someone into walking into a crowded marketplace with explosives strapped to themselves and then detonate said explosives? How easy would it be to convince someone to let you molest their children without the claim that you have a special connection with God? Obviously, religion isn't the cause of all the world's atrocities, and horrible things will happen regardless, but there are just some types of horrors in this world that could not be perpetrated without religion.
- KaiserArny, on 09/21/2008, -0/+11@patpl22391 "I think you should judge each person according to their own deeds and abilities, which is stated in the Bible. I don't condemn an entire religion for someone who claimed to be a christian"
And then turn around and judge everybody on Digg :
"I know digg hates Christians because they all think just because they go to nice colleges and have nice liberal professors that they are smarter than everyone else and look down and scoff on us normal folk. "
You are doing exactly what you say others are doing.
And you will be Dugg down for contradicting yourself. - badastronaut, on 09/21/2008, -11/+2More people indentify as Christian than anything else on this planet. ***** BILLIONS of them. You guys are all ***** for taking a few cases here and there to demonize Chritisnas in this way. That's like saying males account for most rapes, so everyone with a penis is evil. Great logic once again guys. Everything on digg that's about someone doing something bad is identified as "christian does this", while everything else is not. ***** you diggers. Kharma's gonna be a bitch.
- toxictonic, on 09/21/2008, -2/+5badastronaut "More people indentify as Christian than anything else on this planet."
Wrong. You are thinking of Abrahamic religions. Also, you are the *****, you pugamistic, zionistic idiot. Watch this video before you open your ***** mouth again: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-869630813 ...
You don't seem to understand karma either. If you die tomorrow... your karma continues on without you. Your family has to deal with the grief of losing you. Your pets may lose their home and get put down. Yet, everything that you have touched in your life carries a bit of your karma onward, and you are currently carrying the karma of people who have touched your life. Depending on how you deal with karma, there will be a different consequence. If you work with bitterness and resent, then bad karma happens, but if you work with compassion and love, good karma happens! Christians that I have met are the most negative people around. Like you, they jump to hostility whenever someone questions their group's overall morality. Religion is the cancer killing humanity. - TruthinessHurts, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1Just like the GOP?
Yeah, I agree.
These "Christian" paedos hide behind religion just like "Christian" Republicans do the same.
LOL
It's pathetic how you try to pretend that everyone on digg you buries your sorry ass is just a mindless liberal.
Yeah, you keep trying to convince yourself it has NOTHING to do with your lies and hypocrisy.
You pretend to be Christian, yet you demonstrate NONE of Christ's teachings.
THAT is why you get buried. Because diggers are too smart to fall for "Jesus hates mooslems and wants McCain to bomb Iran!" crap that you people spew.
Basically you rightarsd have tried to pervert Christianity in an attempt to prove that Christ would have supported your lies or warmongering.
Bearing false witness is a sin, remember?
Lying and making up motives for muslims or other religions is bearing false witness.
Wow, what a "christian" you are. - TruthinessHurts, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1Pat, no REAL Christian would ever try to use their religion as justification for the vicimization of muslims or people who disagree with the GOP.
Look at GOP pandering to the false Christian "religious" right wing.
These idiots actually think that Jesus would support the LIES that preceded our occupation of Iraq.
These idiots think that Jesus would cheer their actions at Gitmo and Abu Graib.
These idiots think Jesus was WHITE.
YOu don't speak for Christianity until you start behaving like a true Christian.

They AREN"T true followers of Jesus Christ. Therefore they are NOT Christians. I can say I'm a car--but that doesn't make me one. It's all in how we LIVE. Not what we SAY. Now perfect proof of that would be somebody like Obama? He SAYS? But he's NOT. baby killers--and destroyers on marriage are NOT followers of Jesus Christ. They are NOT Christan.

- bluedottx, on 09/21/2008, -6/+111You know, this is just another example of how SICK religious extremism is. And it doesn't matter what type of religion you are talking about, when people take it to extremes, the weaker demographics of our society are victimized. Think about it - who do Muslim extremists like to victimize - WOMEN AND CHILDREN. How about the Warren Jeffs of the world? Again, women and children. What is shocking to me is that such a large portion of the American population is asleep at the wheel while these religious nutcases are growing and growing. This is a kind of cancer, eating our country from within. Makes me sick, I hope they put them ALL away for a long, long time.

It's not low enough. - shawn1122, on 09/21/2008, -2/+2Who cares about religious attendance, there are a lot of normal people that go to church. It's the fundamentalism that needs to be eradicated.
And bjornski, go ***** yourself for wanting attendances to be lower. It shouldn't matter to you, let people believe what they want to.

There now your examples of victims is more balanced. #
Matthew
# Those who bear bad fruit will be cut down and burned "with unquenchable fire." 3:10, 12
# Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets. He hasn't the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament. 5:17
# Jesus recommends that to avoid sin we cut off our hands and pluck out our eyes. This advice is given immediately after he says that anyone who looks with lust at any women commits adultery. 5:29-30
# Jesus says that most people will go to hell. 7:13-14
# Those who fail to bear "good fruit" will be "hewn down, and cast into the fire." 7:19
# "The children of the kingdom [the Jews] shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." 8:12
# Jesus tells a man who had just lost his father: "Let the dead bury the dead." 8:21
# Jesus sends some devils into a herd of pigs, causing them to run off a cliff and drown in the waters below. 8:32
# Cities that neither "receive" the disciples nor "hear" their words will be destroyed by God. It will be worse for them than for Sodom and Gomorrah. And you know what God supposedly did to those poor folks (see Gen.19:24). 10:14-15
# Families will be torn apart because of Jesus (this is one of the few "prophecies" in the Bible that has actually come true). "Brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death." 10:21
# Jesus says that we should fear God who is willing and "able to destroy both soul and body in hell." 10:28
# Jesus says that he has come to destroy families by making family members hate each other. He has "come not to send peace, but a sword." 10:34-36
# Jesus condemns entire cities to dreadful deaths and to the eternal torment of hell because they didn't care for his preaching. 11:20-24
# Jesus will send his angels to gather up "all that offend" and they "shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." 13:41-42, 50
# Jesus is criticized by the Pharisees for not washing his hands before eating. He defends himself by attacking them for not killing disobedient children according to the commandment: "He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death." (See Ex.21:15, Lev.20:9, Dt.21:18-21) So, does Jesus think that children who curse their parents should be killed? It sure sounds like it. 15:4-7
# Jesus advises his followers to mutilate themselves by cutting off their hands and plucking out their eyes. He says it's better to be "maimed" than to suffer "everlasting fire." 18:8-9
# "And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors." 18:34
# In the parable of the marriage feast, the king sends his servants to gather everyone they can find, both bad and good, to come to the wedding feast. One guest didn't have on his wedding garment, so the king tied him up and "cast him into the outer darkness" where "there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." 22:12-13
# Jesus had no problem with the idea of drowning everyone on earth in the flood. It'll be just like that when he returns. 24:37
# God will come when people least expect him and then he'll "cut them asunder." And "there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." 24:50-51
# The servant who kept and returned his master's talent was cast into the "outer darkness" where there will be "weeping and gnashing of teeth." 25:30
# Jesus tells us what he has planned for those that he dislikes. They will be cast into an "everlasting fire." 25:41
# Jesus says the damned will be tormented forever. 25:46
Mark
# Jesus explains why he speaks in parables: to confuse people so they will go to hell. 4:11-12
# Jesus sends devils into 2000 pigs, causing them to jump off a cliff and be drowned in the sea. When the people hear about it, they beg Jesus to leave. 5:12-13
# Any city that doesn't "receive" the followers of Jesus will be destroyed in a manner even more savage than that of Sodom and Gomorrah. 6:11
# Jesus criticizes the Jews for not killing their disobedient children as required by Old Testament law. (See Ex.21:15, Lev.20:9, Dt.21:18-21) 7:9-10
# If you're ashamed of Jesus, he'll be ashamed of you. (And you'll go straight to hell.) 8:38
# Jesus tells us to cut off our hands and feet, and pluck out our eyes to avoid going to hell. 9:43-49
# Jesus says that those that believe and are baptized will be saved, while those who don't will be damned. 16:16
Luke
# God strikes Zacharias dumb for doubting the angel Gabriel's words. 1:20
# Those who fail to bear "good fruit" will be "hewn down, and cast into the fire." 3:9
# John the Baptist says that Christ will burn the damned "with fire unquenchable." 3:17
# Jesus heals a naked man who was possessed by many devils by sending the devils into a herd of pigs, causing them to run off a cliff and drown in the sea. This messy, cruel, and expensive (for the owners of the pigs) treatment did not favorably impress the local residents, and Jesus was asked to leave. 8:27-37
# Jesus says that entire cities will be violently destroyed and the inhabitants "thrust down to hell" for not "receiving" his disciples. 10:10-15
# Jesus says that we should fear God since he has the power to kill us and then torture us forever in hell. 12:5
# Jesus says that God is like a slave-owner who beats his slaves "with many stripes." 12:46-47
# "Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." 13:3, 5
# According to Jesus, only a few will be saved; the vast majority will suffer eternally in hell where "there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." 13:23-30
# In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, the rich man goes to hell, because as Abraham explains, he had a good life on earth and so now he will be tormented. Whereas Lazarus, who was miserable on earth, is now in heaven. This seems fair to Jesus. 16:19-31
# Jesus believed the story of Noah's ark. He thought it really happened and had no problem with the idea of God drowning everything and everybody. 17:26-27
# Jesus also believes the story about Sodom's destruction. He says, "even thus shall it be in the day the son of man is revealed ... Remember Lot's wife." This tells us about Jesus' knowledge of science and history, and his sense of justice. 17:29-32
# In the parable of the talents, Jesus says that God takes what is not rightly his, and reaps what he didn't sow. The parable ends with the words: "bring them [those who preferred not to be ruled by him] hither, and slay them before me." 19:22-27
John
# As an example to parents everywhere and to save the world (from himself), God had his own son tortured and killed. 3:16
# People are damned or saved depending only on what they believe. 3:18, 36
# The "wrath of God" is on all unbelievers. 3:36
# Jesus believes people are crippled by God as a punishment for sin. He tells a crippled man, after healing him, to "sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee." 5:14
# Those who do not believe in Jesus will be cast into a fire to be burned. 15:6
# Jesus says we must eat his flesh and drink his blood if we want to have eternal life. This idea was just too gross for "many of his disciples" and "walked no more with him." 6:53-66
Acts
# Peter claims that Deuteronomy 18:18-19 refers to Jesus, saying that those who refuse to follow him (all non-Christians) must be killed. 3:23
# Peter and God scare Ananias and his wife to death for not forking over all of the money that they made when selling their land. 5:1-10
# Peter has a dream in which God show him "wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls." The voice (God's?) says, "Rise, Peter: kill and eat." 10:10-13
# Peter describes the vision that he had in the last chapter (10:10-13). All kinds of beasts, creeping things, and fowls drop down from the sky in a big sheet, and a voice (God's, Satan's?) tells him to "Arise, Peter; slay and eat." 11:5-6
# The "angel of the Lord" killed Herod by having him "eaten of worms" because "he gave not God the glory." 12:23
# David was "a man after [God's] own heart." 13:22
# The author of Acts talks about the "sure mercies of David." But David was anything but merciful. For an example of his behavior see 2 Sam.12:31 and 1 Chr.20:3, where he saws, hacks, and burns to death the inhabitants of several cities. 13:34
# Paul and the Holy Ghost conspire together to make Elymas (the sorcerer) blind. 13:8-11

- shawn1122, on 09/21/2008, -1/+3Yes, and terrorists claim to be muslim when they are really following a bastardized version of islam. The definition of being Christian is to be Christ-like. - Zarokima, on 09/21/2008, -4/+12Well, to be fair, it would be rude to Jesus to not sin. After going through all that torture it'd be a bit of a slap in the face to live a perfect life and not take advantage of his great sacrifice for you.
- iticu, on 09/21/2008, -0/+6It's not as much as a sacrifice if you can't die though, and have heaven to look forward to.
However, according to god most of us humans are going to hell. That's eternal suffering, right? Much worse than what Jesus suffered on the cross.
- iticu, on 09/21/2008, -0/+6It's not as much as a sacrifice if you can't die though, and have heaven to look forward to.
- belebih, on 09/21/2008, -0/+3Actually, what you are most likely to find is that Christians will just disenfranchise them and say that "they were not /real/ Christians". It's a win/win situation for them. If someone does something good, they are Christians (they did because of Christianity and God), and if they do something like this then they were not ever really Christians (Christianity and God had nothing to do with it).
It's like a lot of parents in a way. Honor student = pride ("I taught him everything he knows"). But if the kid's a ***** up, they had nothing to do with it ("It was the influence of drugs, friends, corrupt society, etc.)

- solid12345, on 09/21/2008, -9/+5The Greeks, other than believing Zeus resided on a mountain way-yonder, were generally less religious than common Christians and how many little boys did they bugger. Pedophilia is irrelevant to religion.
- kayala, on 09/21/2008, -0/+7Difference: it was a cultural custom then, and had nothing to do with the power and subjugation that fuels most pedophilic impulses today. You can still call it pedophilia, sure, but there's a huge difference between it being a custom in which nobody was victimized or hurt and it being a practice in exercising power over someone lower than you.
- volpeculus, on 09/21/2008, -2/+6I agree, Gordon. Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs, and the Baha'i are all bastards. Makes perfect logical sense.

- fuzzmeister, on 09/21/2008, -6/+20So, religious people are all the incarnation of something religious people created? What?
- Anomaly100, on 09/21/2008, -5/+38I have seen some of Alamo's congregation (for want of a better word) walking the streets here in N.Y., trying to bring people into their fold. I spoke with several of them out of curiosity and came to the conclusion then that they were a cult. I noticed that all of them on the street with their flyers were men. I asked them what exactly they were trying to accomplish and the ones I asked were trying to recover from drugs and alcohol. This guy gives them a place to sleep and something to eat while they go out recruiting Christians at least 10 hours a day or more.
Obviously, these guys aren't Christians and Christianity is used as a means for other covert activities. When I see these articles and Christians and Atheist battle it out in the comments, I find it sad. Nothing that this man does seems to be of a Christian nature. I am a Christian and I wouldn't step in his church before and certainly not now. He's a parasitic narcissist that only compares to the stuff I can't scrape off my shoes.- bratterscain, on 09/21/2008, -5/+15Of course you deny him. But if someone else does bad that's a Christian, do you say they're not Christian either or just that Christians who aren't perfect?
- Anomaly100, on 09/21/2008, -3/+6That all depends. If you read my comment, you'd see that I didn't believe this man was a Christian a few years ago and now that belief is even more confirmed. If someone "does bad" as you said, then everything depends on that particular person. If someone shows true remorse. Real remorse. True gut wrenching remorse, then I can see they have a conscious. I don't know this man. I do know of his actions and yes, I deny his Christianity because I don't see anything Christian in his life. He took advantage of young people that have hit rock bottom. He did nothing for them out of kindness. They had to work ridiculous hours for no wages for the little they were given. Until he shows whether he regrets his actions or condones them is yet to be seen. Personally, I would never have him in my home or in my life.
- bratterscain, on 09/21/2008, -3/+2Anonmoly100, yes, it's sad. But newsflash, everyone has a conscious unless they're on their way to the morgue or grave. If you meant conscience, yes, everyone has a conscience as well. You're not special in any way because you think you have something others don't.
- Anomaly100, on 09/22/2008, -0/+2Bratterscain- That was a typo obviously. You are mistaken when you say that everyone as a conscience. Being that a conscience is a "shared concern for moral issues", well we don't all benefit from this. A sociopath for example shows little or no regret for their actions. This means they have little or no conscience. They also have a disregard for the rights of others and they are also unable to conform to what society defines as normal. They are in effect, antisocial. Everyone doesn't have a conscience. I did not say that I think I am special. You have me wrong there-
- JonnyMark, on 09/21/2008, -4/+13Agreed.
You don't have to believe in anything to see the stupidity in equating
one person to all of the people in a religion/party/race/etc.
It's just childish.- shawn1122, on 09/21/2008, -0/+3Finally, *****, a voice of reason in this sea of hatred.
God bless you man, or the lack of God for those that believe that. Believe whatever you want people. Theres no need for all of us to fight and insult our own intelligence by making stupid generalizations.
Just accept that bad people do bad things, doesn't matter if they believe in religion or not. And yes, some use religion as a tool to do evil things. But should all religion be eradicated because of this? Of course not, that would be completely unreasonable.
I respect your beliefs, I hope that you can respect mine. Try to accept everyone for who they choose to be, and the world will become a much nicer place to live in.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_evangelist_ ... - Anomaly100, on 09/22/2008, -0/+2Your link only mentions scandals by Evangelists. I see no "white" racial line drawn in the sand here. My church here in NY has a congregation that crosses all racial lines. We don't count the amounts of people in each group, but when looking out among my peers on Sundays, I would say that I am a minority. Perhaps you should tell the Black, Asian and Puerto Ricans that I fellowship with that belief of yours. Times Square Church. They may find it amusing.
- sfanetti, on 09/21/2008, -4/+10Read the bible objectively and tell me there are not examples of polygamy, child ( virgin ) rape, and cruelty riddled throughout the thing. You believe in a construction of Christianity that is only about a hundred years old - that believes in gentle Jesus meek and mild. This is not what the Juedea Christian faith has been since its inception. You would have been going against Christian orthodoxy a hundred years ago if you were an abolitionist - yet you would still consider yourslef a Christian.
- Anomaly100, on 09/21/2008, -1/+5Actually, I do read it, but admittedly, I'm not finished yet. Of course there are all kinds of examples of horrible things. These are the things that the Bible tells us that Jesus dies for our sins. You're mistaken when you say that I believe in a "construction of Christianity". I do not believe in religion per se. I believe that horrible things are done in the name of religion. ie...the drowning of 5 children, etc. I do believe in spirituality and I'd like to think that I am spiritual as a person. I also believe that I would have been an abolitionist as you mentioned. If that means I'd be going against Christian orthodoxy of that time, so be it. I am what I am. I don't wear long dresses to my ankles and I don't rant about my belief on the street. I do take pride in the fact that I have a personal relationship with God. Certainly you find no harm in that do you?

- Nudar, on 09/21/2008, -12/+4Having the assurance that Jesus loves you and will keep you safe can be very comforting.
- dedknedy, on 09/21/2008, -1/+19Really. Did you know that people who believe that Jesus provides some sort of protection die every day? Some in very horrible ways. In fact I'm going to go out on a limb and say people who believe in Jesus die at the same rate as people who don't believe in Jesus.
Comforting? I don't know about you, but I don't feel comfortable with the idea that some guy is going to judge me on my death bed. Especially one that is willing to let you rot in hell for eternity for something like masturbation, swearing, and eating meat on certain days. No thank you to that. i don't need that kind of crap weighing down my conscience on my death bed. - zombie210, on 09/21/2008, -1/+18Like the kids who were molested? Didn't jebus love THEM?
- beargrylls, on 09/21/2008, -1/+16Also dishonest. I mean even if you are a Christian, how can you tell your children that Jesus will keep them safe? How come John Doe was killed in a car accident, did Jesus decide he wasn't worth keeping safe? I honestly don't understand that train of thought...

- zombie210, on 09/21/2008, -1/+6I'm not exulting, that's what people like you do when you think that all atheists and muslims, etc will go to hell while you go to heaven. And a solution? Okay, how about not letting any preacher or rabbi or priest have unsupervised contact with children? That would stop these things from happening wouldn't they? But you probably think that's a bad idea.
- volpeculus, on 09/21/2008, -5/+1Ah yes, sweet blanket generalizations. Do continue, Zombie, it cheers my heart. ^^
- zombie210, on 09/22/2008, -0/+6Not a blanket observation whatsoever, I know many religious people I can talk to, disagree with and consider friends. I have based my opinion of YOU based solely on your hateful comments.
And don`t you think accusing me of making blanket generalizations loses its sting when that's exactly what you have been doing? :D
- solid12345, on 09/21/2008, -10/+5Better keep them out of a public school while you are at it, they are likely to get shot, molested, sold drugs or knifed there too.
- Squidwalk, on 09/22/2008, -0/+2If you get knifed you'll be better in a few weeks. If you are convinced that there is a supreme entity that is non-perceivable it can mess up your grasp of logic for years.
- volpeculus, on 09/21/2008, -8/+2Nice job completely ignoring all other world religions.
- Squidwalk, on 09/22/2008, -0/+3Religion will still be there once dedknedy's kids are adults. They can learn about them then. Heck, I took classes on eastern religions and I still only have a rough grasp of them. Religion is a mature topic, and is challenging to understand!
- Kaystar87, on 09/21/2008, -2/+11Well from my experiance, people who believe in religion are delusional. They make up excuses for everything and try to justify everything.....Oh I'm sure the guy that ran the church was praised as a good god fearing man all the way till the FBI agents raided his compound for molesting children. The answer is religion isn't health anymore then delusion is healthy. Christianity has always been and will always be based on a "If you follow our rules perfectly and always live your life like we say, you'll be a good sheep and go to heaven, but if you think, if you try to live your life a different way, including going to another religion, you'll burn in the firey pits of hell for an eternity" Now you tell me,what exactly is there healthy about threatening people with firey pits of hell, in order to get them to follow you? I suppose you can hide it under the guise of "Love, mercy, compassion", while you preach damnation and eternal guilt for being human.
- shawn1122, on 09/21/2008, -0/+4Well, I was brought up a Christian and still am and I feel that I ended up fine.
Sunday school for me was a really fun experience. I guess it really depends on which church you go to. Nothing was ever forced down my throat. We learned Bible stories, which was good since they all had some sort of moral to them, especially the parables. Sunday school helped me learn right and wrong through a perfect role model, Jesus Christ. We also sang songs, played games. It was nice to be around people who had the same beliefs as me, you sort of develop a fellowship with them over time.
Of course those morals can be taught without the Bible and without a belief in God. But for me, the overall experience was worth it. I looked forward to going to church on Sunday morning and seeing my friends, playing games and learning something new from the Bible. Overall, it was a rewarding experience that didn't really negatively affect me in any way. As I grew up, the Sunday school classes got a lot more serious. We would discuss things like evolution, arguments against the existence of god, and other religions. The Sunday school teachers always encouraged us to have an open mind and open heart, it would be wrong for us to pass judgment on others.
I respect your decision to keep your children away from Church, I just wanted to say that it isn't always bad for the development of a child. We didn't make children cry at our church, or guilt trip them in any way. The concept of humans being born sinners was taught much later in our Church. I guess things are different when you go from church to church, most churches aren't anything like what you see in Jesus Camp.
- Nudar, on 09/21/2008, -12/+4Having the assurance that Jesus loves you and will keep you safe can be very comforting.
- TBombadil, on 09/21/2008, -15/+16Christians sure love their kiddy porn ....*****

- FarOutGrace, on 09/21/2008, -0/+31I couldn't trust any church whose congregation lives in a "compound". Is that a divide and conquer strategy or what?!
- 808ethan, on 09/21/2008, -8/+3The smart ones don't even use a compound. Many many christian groups live in public but simply refused to be friends with, date or marry anyone not of the same flavor of christian.
Come to think of it, many chinese in america do the same thing.- jstarlee, on 09/21/2008, -1/+3Logged in just to bury this comment.
If that's not racism I don't know what is. - campigenus, on 09/22/2008, -1/+0Racism my foot. It's true. But it's also true of most other races/nations. For the most part, first generation immigrants will hang out/marry/etc people from the same cultural background.
- jstarlee, on 09/21/2008, -1/+3Logged in just to bury this comment.
- kimbja98, on 09/21/2008, -1/+1Buried. Chinese people sticking together are no different to English expats or other migrant group in the country. You may also find that Chinese work hard, don't demand special treatment and don't go around causing that much trouble. They also don't appear to be trying to undermine democracy or free speech. In fact, you can protest against China all you like (such as the olympics), but you won't have them rallying in the streets crying for the blood and heads of the non-believers...I mean protestors.
Religious sorts are far more dangerous, basing their decisions on arbitrary beliefs, having a superiority complex and a mission in life to make us all believe/behave like them. Given this, I'd much rather have Chinese in my neighbourhood!- campigenus, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1Oh yeah, how do you feel about Chinese Christians?
- 808ethan, on 09/22/2008, -0/+2Everyone does this, it is a natural instinct, just somehow chinese culture makes them do it more. Curious why.
Anyway, tell me how many of your english expats refuse to date people out of their race?
Every city in the world has a China-town, but I don't see and Austrailia-town or Germany-town.
Everyone getting so aggressive without anything mean is said about china kinda makes me worry. Even if you dont go to china, will you be censored just for speaking ABOUT china? - kimbja98, on 09/22/2008, -1/+1The official line, according to the wikipedia is:
"The People's Republic of China was established in 1949. Its government is officially atheist, which viewed religion as emblematic of feudalism and foreign colonialism."
And if I follow the line of previous comments, "Chinese people keep to themselves" and "Christians keep to themselves", this means it would be near impossible to find any Chinese Christians.
But in all seriousness, religion is fine. It's when their followers start to affect other people's liberties where problems arise, and unlike other actions that affect other people which can be rationalised (such as murder/theft/copyright infringement:p), religious actions cannot as it's your word against theirs.
The news often has stories of people doing things in the name of religion, be they christian, muslim, scientologist etc and they all believe they are correct in their attempts to undermine democracy/freedom of speech/rights of non-believers/foreigners/women's&gay's rights and it's very difficult to argue with them rationally. - FarOutGrace, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1There are a lot of Chinese that attend my Christian church. They are just as you mentioned but they attend church. It's not complicated really as far as having superiority complexes etc as you mentioned. We just go to church and try to live a decent life and learn what we can from a really good book.

- smurfsahoy, on 09/21/2008, -1/+3There was obviously pedophilia going on during the writing of the Bible. A lack of comment on it (which I'm just taking your word for, there may be) would be a LOT more intentional and informative than a lack of comment about dinosaurs which nobody knew about.

"Christians" don't live in compounds with armed security guards. This is some messed up cult, that obviously has things to hide. Over 200 million Americans claim to be Christians, Obama and McCain, Jesse Jackson and Mike Huckabee. People who start going on and on about "Christians" and how terrible they are, might as well be talking about "people who eat pizza" or "people who like the Beatles" because to bash all Christians over some crazy pedophile cult, is like bashing people who like the Beatles because some Beatles Fan murdered his wife...its silly and uneducated.- smurfsahoy, on 09/21/2008, -10/+4Yeah, the difference is that "real" Christians are skilled enough at manipulating people that they don't need the armed guards to have them stay in line.
- volpeculus, on 09/21/2008, -3/+2Usually whenever someone tars a third of the world's population with the same brush, I'd definitely call that uneducated.
- twertyto, on 09/21/2008, -2/+4Intelligent people get that point but some people (smurfsahoy) are simply out to get the Church regardless.

Religion pretty much by definition involves rituals and ancestral heritage - solid12345, on 09/21/2008, -1/+6Well I hardly see how christians singing together in a building is any less nutty than the new age types who think water and wind are "infused" with magical power. Bad news makes headlines. The good that comes from religion outweighs the bad by orders of magnitude but you won't hear anything about it. You guys have no perspective.
Evil exists in this world. It can corrupt a few public figures which ends up unfairly tainting far greater numbers.

- microview2007, on 09/21/2008, -0/+2You are correct it was changed from Bernie Hoffman.
From wikipedia: Tony Alamo (born Bernie LaZar Hoffman, September 20, 1934 in Joplin, Missouri.
- microview2007, on 09/21/2008, -0/+2You are correct it was changed from Bernie Hoffman.
- GrubFisher, on 09/21/2008, -1/+2Is it just me or whenever the government raids a religious group of people, their church(or whatever) is called a compound? Anyone notice that?
I mean, what is a compound anyway?- smurfsahoy, on 09/21/2008, -0/+5A fortified cluster of buildings housing some coherently organized operation or activities.
- theonlywizdum, on 09/21/2008, -0/+3it's called a compound if it's fenced in, contains several buildings, and has armed guards surrounding it.
- GrubFisher, on 09/21/2008, -0/+1So a military fort/base, basically?
- smurfsahoy, on 09/21/2008, -1/+1The activities don't have to be hostile, nor does any formalized martial training have to be taking place. Although military bases would generally be considered examples of compounds, yes.
- jinxation, on 09/21/2008, -0/+1No fence, just an old store converted to a church. The claim that there is armed guards is stretching it. But...definitely a cult.
- mashimka, on 09/21/2008, -0/+6Woah this is like Donnie Darko and that Irish guy... McSwaize or something?
- bjornski, on 09/21/2008, -0/+2Dang, I was just watching that last night, and I can't remember the name.....
- BlacklabelSAR, on 09/21/2008, -1/+5It's funny how no amount of exceptions, no matter how great, can ever be the norm in these cases.
I remember when the Moral Majority thought it was both moral and a majority when it was neither and was also a hate group. These people create their own deluded reality. They are not sane or rational. - armchairexpert, on 09/21/2008, -4/+6Proof? No
This is just the default way of breaking up a "cult" these days. Throw in the words child porn and stupid people like you all will eat it up without asking any questions whatsoever.
For all we know it is all made up. On the other hand for all we know they could have made over 9000 videos of CP. Wait until the evidence before lighting the fire. idiots- Cerebron, on 09/21/2008, -0/+4Yeah, kiddie porn is a little like drug charges, just the mention of it is enough to sway public opinion and get an automatic decision without a fair trial. Sad, really, the worse the charges are, the quicker we are to lynch someone.
- smurfsahoy, on 09/21/2008, -3/+6Okay they obviously deserve a fair trial. But since we aren't on the jury, we are free to make the pretty safe assumption that religious nutjobs sitting around in a defended compound under investigation by the FBI for child porn in all likelihood are not poor, misunderstood victims of circumstance...
Do you live under a rock? We all make assumptions with way less confidence than this one every day of our lives, without breaking a sweat.
- Slayer166, on 09/21/2008, -6/+2Oh so they found Big Foot? Because they claim to have one there.
- elliotys, on 09/21/2008, -5/+7It's always the evangelists... When was the last time you heard of an agnostic/athirst cmpnd doing this?
- regeya, on 09/21/2008, -2/+1What would you expect? If a person is an atheist, does that need to be reported when they're caught with child porn?
"Mr. Smith had over 50GB of child pornography on his laptop computer. He is a very outspoken atheist."
You people would come down on 'the media" like a ton of bricks for displaying "obvious" bias.
- regeya, on 09/21/2008, -2/+1What would you expect? If a person is an atheist, does that need to be reported when they're caught with child porn?
- ur23, on 09/21/2008, -4/+6I think people are not lumping everyone together we are just sick of Religion destorying the world
- Groovydoo, on 09/21/2008, -2/+5It astonishes me what you can get away with if you call yourself Christian. We can start off with this "pedobear" evangelist as a de facto example or even compare President Bush who has presided over 131 state executions in Texas as Governor, or that he started 2 wars as President. or how about that he authorized torture and then passed laws to making him immune to war crimes. Even law enforcement couldn't stop him. All he had to do to pull it off is call himself Christian and pro-life just like this despicable "pedobear."
- Bolin100, on 09/21/2008, -7/+3Now you know that isn't true. I know what you're saying but a persons actions aren't condoned by his spiritual or religious beliefs. We are human and we make mistakes. That is why Jesus as it states in the Bible died for our sins, This guy has absolutely nothing to do with Christianity. Whenever the word, "Christian" is in one of the articles on Digg, you can believe there will be a long line of Atheists ready to ridicule.
- volpeculus, on 09/21/2008, -4/+2@Groovy: It's also amazing how gullible agnostics are about people cynically using the label "Christian."
- Gutterpunk, on 09/21/2008, -1/+5It's amazing what *anyone* can get away with when they claim religious status.
Want a full body thetan scan for 100,000$? Step this way!
Want to carry a knife at school? Take door number 2!
Want to go in front of 2 elders and not the law when you get caught abusing kids? Hey, I've got the place for you!
Faith makes people do crazy things. I wish that atheists could claim Scientist status and use it to as a shield against prosecution!
- badwarhol, on 09/21/2008, -2/+12I am so glad I gave up organized religion for lent.
