- wonderchemist, on 12/01/2008, -4/+32There is an old Chinese saying: Man who goes through airport too fast is going to Bangkok.
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -9/+23Sucks to be these stranded tourist. F the protesters!
- jcaino, on 12/03/2008, -0/+12I always thought it was:
"Man who go through turnstile sideways is going to Bangkok" - pilot3033, on 12/03/2008, -0/+9peaceful protesting is
- e2superman, on 12/03/2008, -0/+6HUGE airport. I was there in August so there must have been several thousand people needed to shut it down.
- pwner, on 12/03/2008, -0/+5Confucius say boy with hole in pocket feeling cocky.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+5Damn I wish I was stranded in Thailand..
- e2superman, on 12/03/2008, -1/+6***** us Americans are too sissy to demonstrate like this now! Lol.
- e2superman, on 12/03/2008, -2/+6This is Civil Disobedience.
- barfooz, on 12/03/2008, -0/+3Maybe if he had quoted the chorus...
- barfooz, on 12/03/2008, -0/+3Ironically, the People's Alliance for Democracy does not support democracy, or at least not in the sense that we think of it. They want a pseudo-parliamentary-system-but-mostly-meritocracy. They're seeking to have 30% of parliament members elected and 70% appointed. And of course they wanted the current government dissolved, which they got yesterday.
- duke, on 12/03/2008, -0/+3Hey, between Thais, wouldn't you rather go to Phuket than to Bangkok?
- sjbdallas, on 12/03/2008, -0/+3Not enough Rush fans on DIGG I guess.
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -6/+9Yeah ***** democracy...
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -1/+4He who goes to bed with itchy ass wakes up with smelly fingers.
- tonicboy, on 12/02/2008, -1/+3You're right about one thing... that is ooooold.
- colincornaby, on 12/02/2008, -1/+3How exactly would this inspire Democracy in China?
"Choose Democracy! It will put you out of power and potentially cripple your economy for weeks at a time!"
Yeah, with representation like that the Chinese will be rushing towards Democracy... - barfooz, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2My girlfriend left Bangkok 2 days before the airport was taken over. Her mom was scheduled to leave a week later, and she got stuck and had to take a bus to Kuala Lumpur to fly out. Big ***** mess.
- edebolt, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2I live in Northern Thailand and I love this. Every time there is a protest etc then the tourists and investors stay away. Keeps my USD's strong and valued by the service providers here. I was hoping it would be closed a little longer. There is talk however that after December 5th which is the King's birthday then the protesters might come back.
Thailand is a old style place. One of the factors in all this is that the PAD (Peoples Alliance for Democracy) believe the former PM Thaksin Shinawatra is a reincarnated General Phaya Taksin from the 1700's who came to power and killed the then King. Buddhism has a different set of rules. - JKAL, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2man who has sex with peanut butter jar, is ***** nuts!
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2I love northern Thailand. My wife and I have land in Chiang Rai. I also agree with you about how stuff like this helps the USD. What is it today.. nearly 36 baht to the dollar now? Go baby go!
- tonicboy, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2No, sitting down in the middle of the road is civil disobedience. Occupying buildings with weapons and killing people is ***** terrorism you dumb *****.
- edrodgers731, on 12/03/2008, -1/+3What does peaceful protest have to do with democracy?
- BabyWookie, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1Yeah. If you like the ladyboys.
- e2superman, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1It will be fine there by then. :)
- snotrokit, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1never moon a werewolf
- lingyai, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1Some thais call in Bangkok also, its not only farang
- GasClown, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1Whenever Thailand decides to join the 17th century and finally get rid of the monarchy perhaps Thailand and the Thai people can join the list of civilized nations.
Though on paper Thailand is a constitutional monarchy, in reality, Thailand is a defacto feudal nation.
The King is the very reason why these things happen almost every 2-3 years now.
If the CPB feels threatened by losses I bet the protesters get rounded up in mere hours. - colincornaby, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1"Civil disobedience. Have you heard of the Civil Rights Movement Sit-Ins?"
When did civil disobedience ever shut down airports and an entire economy?
I'm all for civil disobedience, but marching into an airport and forcibly ejecting the tower controllers so that flights are no longer co-ordinated is not peaceful protest. - inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1For the record, only farangs(foreigners) call it Bangkok. The real name of the city is Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit or Krung Thep for short.
Translation: "The city of angels, the great city, the eternal jewel city, the impregnable city of God Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukam". - frodobaggins, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1-Citation Needed
- lingyai, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1There are plenty of non monarchy countries that have many problems. The king is NOT the reason they have this.
