El Paso, Texas launches first Ciclovia in the United States

cicloviaelpaso.com — It may be the poorest big city in the country, but El Paso, Texas is taking advantage of its great weather and a young and visionary city council to embrace the Ciclovia concept -- closing streets to traffic one day a week so people can ride, run, walk and play.

  • deelux247, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The Ciclovia route takes you over the Scenic Drive overlook, with stunning views of El Paso, Texas, Juarez, Mexico and Dona Ana County, New Mexico; it then continues down Alabama St. for many relatively flat miles, which beginning cyclists and walkers appreciate; it then takes you on a challenging climb through McKelligon Canyon, a beautiful showcase of Chihauhaun Desert flora, including ocotillo, palo verde, desert willow, cholla, and yellow-flowered prickly pear.
