- browwiw, on 10/10/2007, -1/+46Kind of ironic that the cause of the child's conception was almost the cause of its death.
- mishsquish, on 10/10/2007, -8/+36I wish my parents left me a ecstasy tablet when I was 2. That would have been... AWESOME.
- tehbored, on 10/10/2007, -9/+36Dude wtf? They left an ecstasy tablet within reach of a child? Now I don't have a problem with people using it, but god dammit, at least don't let it into the hands of little kids! Now that they've been given a chance maybe they'll just leave a pile of black powder and a lighter on the ground?
- tonton2012, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23Yep it's perfectly fine when doctors prescribe Ritalin to 3 year olds.
- ozid, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23Have you ever been in foster care? There is almost no situation worse that knowing you are in foster care and don't have real parents that care about you... or at least put on the illusion of caring about you.
I'd rather have recreational drug users as parents and have my own room than live in some old ladies home with 40 other kids who are just as depressed as me. I have first hand experience with foster homes and it sucks. - BassMastr, on 10/10/2007, -6/+22This is terrible, and at least the dad had the character to be honest so his baby could get immediate care and he didn't gamble her health in fear of what the punishment would be. These seem to be pretty lousy parents, but would this poor child be better of in foster care? I doubt it... Sad
- remccain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Dude, wtf? You never made a mistake as a parent? Never left a pot handle turned over the stove, or a lamp cord in reach of a toddler? You never made a mistake and dropped something, say a bottle of aspirin, and thought you got all the pills, but missed one? Accidents happen. Would you have the same reaction if it had been a prescribed pain pill that mommy accidentally dropped? What if mommy was sentenced to 5 years for accidentally dropping that prescribed pain pill that her baby ate? Would that be fair?
- wontstoptalking, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16Come on, honey, eat your ecstasy! Here comes the choo-choo train!
- Endeavorer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Normaly yes, but often it has meth or other crap mixed into it.
I guess if it was legal it could be regulated and made more safe... but thats another debate =) - Ghoztt, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14I've tried ecstasy twice in my life. Even though I believe humans should remain as natural as possible (only organic food - medicine only when absolutely needed) this was one amazing drug! I felt very bonded to people and very, very compassionate when I was on it.... as well as little bit like a bunny rabbit... if you know what I mean ;) ;) ;)
- remccain, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13I know parents that make 6 figures a year and use recreational drugs. Their parenting abilities are not any worse than a father that smokes a cigar and drinks a whiskey when he comes home from work. ... oh, wait, those are *legal* drugs and they don't count towards being a bad parent.
- rnwen2750, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I think most kids are more resilient than we realize. We just have to give them the right support after things like this.
- swrlyhrly, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12It's not the ex that's bad its what is being passed off as ex that's bad
- mrmulyani, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9The idiots would be mute if it were anything other than an illicit substance. Some people are so quick to jump on the 'take their kids away' bandwagon, but would reel in horror if the law could take away your kids for getting into your cleaning products (happens all the time), eating someone's prescribed medication (happens all the time), hospitalization as a result of raiding the alcohol cupboard, or for any number of a million other preventable causes of harm. Until they invented the Internet I had no idea just how many imbeciles there were in the world.
- MeThePeople, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11i gotta party with the kid
- ddxChrist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9You need to get educated, and while you're at it, please seek serious help.
- boredmerlin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Wow, your ass must be pretty large to be able to pull all of that bull ***** out of it.
- DOCKAUF55, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9I bet that kid had a wild ***** time!
- joeshlub, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8How does that have anything to do with the topic at hand? These pills could have been any number of perscription drugs and had worse consequences, vicodin or oxycontin for example. The fact that the drug happened to be E has nothing to do with the consequences of legalizing drugs.
I should be able to put whatever I damn well please into my own body. You don't want to, good for you. But stay the ***** away from my body. - computergod, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It's just the same as keeping the child away from any other potentially dangerous substance, it's not like they gave the kid the pill on purpose. Everyone knows to keep children away from things like sweet tasting alcoholic drinks, to clean up car coolant (tastes sweet, deadly), and to keep cleaning chemicals child proof.
Mistakes happen though. The real tragedy is that this case will now make people think twice before bringing their child into the hospital, or waste time disposing of evidence. We once has a kid come into the ER that had swallowed drain cleaner, it basically ate his esophagus away. Are those parents any more to blame? - indicas, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9ecstasy isn't serious stuff. when you have no moderation and abuse it, then yes it becomes a problem.
bottom line: moderation is key, this goes with anything. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Awwww this crib is awesome. AAWWWWW teddy bear I love you.
- orlyfactor, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6that's not really a moral. more of a lesson. and they could have been much, much lower and not fessed up. i'm glad they did.
- gwhardyiv, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Take it easy, junior. You are making about as much sense as a crackhead, with spelling to match. Might be bedtime...you seem a little fussy. Tell mommy and daddy to vote for Ron Paul, okay? Nite nite.
- berb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Have you never dropped anything?
- Cowfrommars, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4There is a reply feature.
- tito13kfm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Jesus Christ dude.. I hope you are just a troll trying to make all us conservatives look stupid.
Fact: Putting the word fact before a statement does not make it true. - pogfreak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Although I know you are probably just a troll, please consider watching this video on the subject. It cleanly lays out pragmatic reasons for marijuana legalization, I think everyone should see it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBGIQ7ZuuiU - joeshlub, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Bad news: You can't blow your load on E. Try all you want, won't work.
- tehrob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I thought this was about the girls in the van with the kid on the floor. :(
- BassMastr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I see your point. There is no easy answer in this situation. I didn't mean to make it sound as though the child would be better off at home. I'm just saying foster life isn't all that great from what I hear either. That's why it's so sad...there isn't a good option. This child isn't even three yet (and the other isn't even home yet!!) and they will already be at some sort of disadvantage.
- clkou, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Baby's first words, "Yo, moms and pops, gimme another hit of Disco Biscuit so I can trip balls!"
- remccain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I fought, won total custody and child support for my 3 boys. The system is broken, but it occasionally works.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4There are a lot of parents who abuse drugs and alcohol while raising their children and never have their kids get into it and even appear to the outside world as a "typical" family. Who knows, maybe this will be a Raymond K. Hessel moment for them and this kid will be lucky enough to grow up in a household that is drug free.
- bg2500, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I have never done E. But, I understand that it is does the same thing as antidepressants, only much faster. If people know what they are doing, they should have every right to use it as they please. But, keep it out of the reach of kids, who don't know what they are doing.
Just maintain, if you want to use drugs or alcohol. If you cant, then stop. - Chipette, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The majority of the (very few) people who have died from using ecstasy were killed only indirectly. They died of dehydration and/or overheating after dancing away in hot basement rave scenes, failing to recognize their condition because the effects of the drug.
- Vash265, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Wrong. Anytime a child is seriously endangered, Doctors and Pyschiatrists have an obligation to inform the authorities.
- archlich, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Hopefully this incident has stirred the parents enough to straighten them up.
- androothebear, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2okay now THAT was funny...
- daeken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Um, no, you're very wrong. Antidepressents are generally SSRIs and SNRIs, which means they inhibit the reuptake of serotonin and/or norepinephrine, thus raising the levels in the brain. MDMA is an EXTREMELY powerful serotonin reuptake inhibitor, as well as a mild dopamine reuptake inhibitor and norepinephrine inhibitor. So yes, it has the exact same action as an antidepressant.
/ Recreational neurochemist - RyGuyX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
- XxERMxX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2But it's not legal, not regulated and sometimes does contain harmful additives. Thus being an extremely dangerous drug.
- 4UIDigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2they get very nice salaries BTW
- spyd3rweb, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5moral of the story, don't let CPS near your house if you have kids.
- felidaeus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Yes well, given that as a white male I have no rights before the child care system in the first place, nothing that they do could possibly surprise me. Worse stuff happens all the time, we just don't hear about it.
- loconet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2lol, judging by some comments and how other ones are being modded up and down something tells me there is a ***** load of e-heads on digg (not that there is anything wrong).
- computergod, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2^^^ Like he said, that might have been important in a MJ story, but it is not the focus of this MDMA story and hence should be posted as a followup so we don't turn this into a drug legislation or MJ thread.
Too bad, I agree with everything you said. it was a good comment otherwise. - emjaymj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm not arguing that the baby wouldn't have overdosed on one pill of ecstasy, but "The only way you can really die from it is overdose or from dehydration"? Only? As opposed to what other ways of dying? Besides, ecstasy is in theory a very safe drug, but on the streets the pills are cut with meth and all kinds of crap, which COULD be fatal to a baby.
- swrlyhrly, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Im sure he has. What is fine for him may not be for you.
- shig, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3They're 7-times more likely to abuse children.
