East Texas Girl Was Lying About Attack
kltv.com — The girl who said she was attacked at school for her history project was lying. Digg it and eat it.

- pjman, on 04/10/2008, -4/+242Video "showed Bowers scratching herself on her arm".
nice- chuckerton, on 04/10/2008, -3/+23Even nicer with the "walking...calmly" part. ***** sad:
Video "showed Bowers scratching herself on her arms, face, and neck, and walking through the halls of the school calmly long after she claimed the incident happened."- sotopheavy, on 04/10/2008, -1/+10Thats one itchy lying bitch!
- hektur, on 04/10/2008, -38/+12***** the RIAA!
- Lutremi, on 04/10/2008, -10/+5Came a little late so you piggybacked on the first comment eh?
- houndeyex, on 04/10/2008, -5/+8I thought the headline read "Easy Texas Girl wa..."
I stopped reading. - bluezinc, on 04/10/2008, -27/+30I had no sympathy for her racist ass anyway. This just makes me laugh even harder at the stupid bitch.
- franklymister, on 04/10/2008, -28/+15She's a 13 year old girl, tough guy.
You aren't even going to allow a little girl to make a stupid mistake without calling her names? Wow.
BTW, there's nothing racist about being against illegal immigration - and yes, some Hispanic students really did taunt her and throw her sign in the trash, they just didn't attack her physically. She did a dumb thing, but she's thirteen years old. Can you imagine if the internet had been around to catch every stupid thing any of us did at that age?- miss752, on 04/10/2008, -4/+38Mistake?! I understand she's young but her "mistake" would have brought chaos to that entire community! Not only that, but especially the innocent 21 Hispanic students she accused of attacking her. If she's old enough to form an opinion on such a controversial issue I would hope she would have enough sense to know what's right from wrong as well.
- empraptor, on 04/10/2008, -3/+25She's 13 years old. But she's also a deviant who needs to be punished and have this recorded in her files. I don't recall many 13 year olds being screwed up enough fake an assault like this.
Illegal immigration is an issue that is intimately tied with race in the US and elsewhere. I wouldn't call it racist to be against illegal immigration. But don't treat the two issues as if two are completely separate abstract concepts.
You and I both know talking heads aren't bashing illegal immigrants from Canada for stealing our jobs and committing crimes. Immigrants have often been blamed for this all over the world. And it's all the more easier to play the blame game if they don't look like you.
It's true that the illegal immigrants are breaking US laws, but that's not the reason people feel so strongly about the issue. Immigration laws are what some people use to justify their feelings. Immigration laws can be changed. We should examine problems that immigration at the current rate cause and base laws based on this reality. The problem shouldn't be that they are breaking immigration laws that are unenforceable and may be outdated. - duke, on 04/10/2008, -2/+30WTF? You DO realize, don't you, that if that video hadn't been found, 2 or 3 innocent kids would have their asses locked up in juvie right now waiting on a detention hearing, right? Crying rape and ruining someone else's reputation because you're a manipulative little bitch is not exactly a harmless little teenage rite of passage.
- OnAnyMouse, on 04/10/2008, -0/+7not "harmless" anyway.
- RobotCitizen, on 04/10/2008, -1/+18Wow. People use the word "mistake" way too liberally these days. Her actions were premeditated. She calmly set out to lie and falsely accuse innocent people of horrific behavior. It didn't just happen accidentally, like tripping on a bump in the sidewalk. She faked injuries which tells me she comprehended what she was doing and understood that the deception needed to look convincing.
She's an amoral racist little bitch. - andburn1, on 04/10/2008, -1/+5A mistake!? This is clearly a racially motivated incident. It's clearly discernible that her sense of privilege and superiority led her to make this false accusation, out of a belief that these people deserved it or a "how dare THEY get angry at ME?" mentality.
- blackrage, on 04/10/2008, -3/+32Gee...While I was minding my own business, walking thu the halls shoving my gay little sign in the faces of my classmates. Someone took it and threw it in the trash. I guess the next logical step is fake an assault and accuse random Latinos of threats of rape and murder. Then I'll file a police report hoping to get them expelled and prosecuted.
If you think thats a little mistake any 13 year old would make...DON'T HAVE KIDS. The world is a better place without your mad parenting skills.
I guarantee it there was no cam footage, She would get on the stand and ***** up the lives of kids who did nothing wrong.
I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR THAT LYING *****- LordVance, on 04/10/2008, -7/+4Be on the look out for a male of African decent between 4'7" and 6'3"

- johnsaulrubio, on 04/10/2008, -0/+15She may be 13 years old, but she's a 13 year old ***** that meant to put innocent kids in some pretty serious trouble.
And even if she was taunted, it probably wasn't by illegal immigrants. Not to mention a taunt is quite a bit different from what she alleged.
- franklymister, on 04/10/2008, -28/+15She's a 13 year old girl, tough guy.
- blackrage, on 04/10/2008, -8/+73The first comment on this story should have been...
"To all those who dugg the false claim and left 20 comments about some silly 1500 mile wall....OWNED BITCHES"- Akadjjoel, on 04/10/2008, -0/+12lol internet...
- ICSU, on 04/10/2008, -5/+2Exactly. Many digg users - sheep who would believe anything.
- sikosmurf, on 04/10/2008, -2/+6No evidence was presented on the contrary of what was reported before, as fact, and there would be no other reasonable means of verifying the story. How does this make them "sheep who would believe anything"? Or are you just calling people "sheep" because it sounds cool? If that is the case, maybe you would prefer the term "Sheeple"?
- zeromous, on 04/10/2008, -4/+1Stupid conformists.
- zeromous, on 04/10/2008, -2/+1WOOOOOOSH

- Calcularius, on 04/10/2008, -3/+4so emo
- Tyrghast, on 04/10/2008, -26/+18Typical woman. They'll cry rape or abuse any time, any where because everyone will always be on their side, whether they're lying or not.
- georgetds, on 04/10/2008, -4/+21No one is on her side now that the proof is contrary to what she said. By the way, you really might what to avoid generalizations like "typical woman". Most woman I know would not typically falsely report a crime.
- OnAnyMouse, on 04/10/2008, -1/+5Actually, your response is why this is news. With every false report that gets publicity, people realize that the proposition that "girls would never lie about rape" is false. KKK lynchings were often supposedly about punishing rapists.
- nomadxx7, on 04/10/2008, -0/+3I have to agree a little with Tyrghast. Please hear me out before you digg me down. I don't believe women file false reports but I do believe a good number of women have laws and such on there side that can really screw others over.
Case in point. Locally there was a married couple that was fighting. The wife decided to get a restraining order against her husband and they separated. Well, the wife after a week or so decided she wanted to take her husband back. Well the whole problem is that there was the restraining order in place. Well the first major fight they had, she called the cops and told them he was violating the restraining order (that she had placed on him and then later wanted him back regardless of the restraining order). Well the husband was sent to jail for a short overnight stay and a felony charge was placed on his record. Well this guy worked at the local Wal-mart. Well if you have a felony on your record you can't work at Wal-mart (company policy). So within a week this guy lost his job, his wife, and literally his life (he committed suicide).- nomadxx7, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2Sorry about the double post but I do believe that a lot of people (hell men and women) know the system and how to manipulate it. I just think that there are a lot of laws designed to protect women and unfortunately some of them are vindictive and use it to screw others over
- Skooma714, on 04/10/2008, -8/+3Dugg for truth.

- Tex, on 07/28/2008, -1/+25Does this mean all those torch-carrying, pitchfork-wielding Diggers from the previous story have to put their toys back now?
- illegalcortex, on 04/10/2008, -1/+9No, it just means now they can post misogynistic comments instead. See previous post for example.
- antonio97b, on 04/10/2008, -6/+24Sorry Posted this at the bottem of the page as well, but I am going to comment abuse because I think it needs to be seen. These are the comments from users from the first two pages of the original story. Give it a look over

JimmyTheClam - Uh oh!
The lefties are going into "minimization" and name calling mode when they don't like the news.
This most certainly have made news if a bunch of whites attacked that girl because she was a Mexican. 80diggs
PolishLogic - Why can't people just enter this country legally? +470 diggs
innerpenguin - A citizen of the United States of America should not have to live in fear for supporting the laws of the United States of America. +591
magoblygoo - Funny how when white people are attacked its usually the white persons fault somehow. when any other race is attacked by white people its called racism.
i still dont understand how this standard came about. +289
Idiggapony - So have the students who attacked her and threatened to rape her been expelled from school?
Has the school district that sent her back to class, refused to let her call her parents, kept both her and her attackers in school, and placed her in immediate physical danger been sued?
Has the ACLU offered to sue the school district and the students who attacked her? It would seem that, when a person is subjected to physical violence for expressing a political view, and an agent of the government (i.e. the school) fails to protect her, this would be just the sort of case that the ACLU should get involved with, if the ACLU were really interested in civil liberties. +179
drz130 - Can you imagine if this was a Latino who was attacked by a group of whites for an opinion they had. Duh ya think there would be an outcry? +160
StusGhost - Wow, those latino students sure showed her. Slamming her face into a wall and threatening to rape and kill her. . . Who wouldn't be for immigration after that??!! +274
carbonetc - And so Melanie finally saw the error of her ways and decided Latinos weren't so bad after all.
The end. +160
DHTamus - Many assume that this girl was being racist, but who here would NOT like to stop ILLEGAL immigration? I see great potential in legal immigration, both for us and the immigrants. However, illegal immigration should be something that we band together to extinguish, because illegal immigration is only the product of zenophobic hate and desperation. +66
LuckyASN - Dear immigrants, illegal or legal:
We have this thing called "Freedom of speech" and "Freedom to protest". As it turns out, people who have different views from yours have those very same freedoms too! And they too would like to express their differing views without fear of reprisal, much like yourself.
Don't like it, go back to that ***** of a country you fled from! +89
o0joshua0o - I can't believe that a poster telling people to stop an illegal activity is controversial. Imagine the girl made a poster saying "don't steal cars" and started getting threats from other students. +54
godseyeview - if they raped her and didnt kill her then they would have a legal latino baby. this loophole needs to close. +15
Infowarmachine - you see the case where a man gave the finger to a protest march of thousands of people (probably mostly illegals) who were marching for illegal aliens.. they were blocking traffic, waving mexican flags, had reconquista and la raza shirts and some held boards showing california belonging to mexico.. this is basically a hostile anti-american force.. man gives them the finger
who do cops arrest? the cops pull this guy out of his running car smash his face into the ground and arrest him while mexicans cheer and trash his car... the angry hostile mob is left alone though +50
crapmatic - I live about 15 minutes from Jacksonville, where this happened. All I can say is there has been a tremendous influx of Mexicans into the towns around east Texas... the historic district in my town turned into a barrio in just five years -- now we have Tejano blasting out of red pickups, dog packs all up and down the streets, drunk Hispanics stumbling up and down the streets at night, etc. The change happened so quickly, too. +18
zaptoman - Why were they even offended? Are they illegals? Geez. Somebody's got some touchy nerves. Oh, and uh - suspension? How about some criminal charges here? Ridiculous. +12
gforce2016 - Her experience is an example of why illegal immigrants should be kept out. Those kids that attacked her should be thrown out of the country. +5
buenet - I'll never understand why immigrants in this country are allowed to walk in and abuse their power and demand an arm and a leg from the American people anytime we object to them. And the sad thing is we give into them. Honestly, most other countries have a lot more hate and racism towards us than we have towards them. My brother just spent two months studying abroad in Mexico and he said Mexicans would try and pick fights with him, constantly yell racial slurs at him and basically treat him like *****, all because he was a white American. And that's how it is down there (off the resorts and tourist cities). But no, here, if we even make the slightest objection to immigration or something an immigrant is doing we're the bad guy and we allow them to treat us like *****. Makes no sense. +5
metallic07039 - You know, I am tired of illegal immigrants arguing with US citizens and proclaiming that they should have all of these rights, privileges, etc. You're ILLEGAL! You do not get the rights that US citizens get. As a US citizen and taxpayer, I am paying for you, you should be lucky. You forcefully pray through our borders and then bitch! How about I break into your house, set up shop, and then yell at your mom about how crappy her cooking is? Would you like that?
I dated a girl once, whom I later found out was technically an illegal immigrant from Colombia - her visa expired. She actually graduated college here, volunteers, and is very active in trying to changing illegal immigrant policies. She once got mad at me because I said 'illegal'. She told me that the PROPER term is 'undocumented'. What the hell?! Now I am supposed be PC about it?!
/ dating rant
If you don't like it, go back home and apply for citizenship the legal way (like I did)! Then you can bitch! +14
frenchkick - stuff like this makes me be ashamed to be mexican
those guys who attacked her need to grow up and educate themselves +16

This was the first 2 pages of comments from the previous story.- nomadxx7, on 04/10/2008, -1/+4Thanks for the comments but I think that the problem is that the "facts" provided were from a 13 yr filing a false police report. So though these comments show how people truly feel, it wouldn't prove different if it was true (that she was truly attacked). So though these comments may have "egg on their face" it's really from a vindictive 13 yr old versus facts
- ICSU, on 04/10/2008, -2/+6Digg has become overrun by the average busy body/moron a long time ago.
- BobOki, on 04/10/2008, -3/+9And to think of how many men are in prison for "sexual assault" or "rape" that never even touched a girl for this same reason.

- oldmandra, on 04/10/2008, -24/+40Yea, I can just imagine o'reilly or similar cranks going home on this. unfortunately, you'll never see this update on Fox.

- TheFinaleofSeem, on 04/10/2008, -39/+180Holy *****, why is this being dugg up? I seem to remember seeing a lot of people saying that even though they were left wing, they'd love to see these "attackers" locked up in the last Digg thread. As for the authorities, well, the girl's sign had already been nabbed and some students suspended for it. Then the girl came in scratched up and told them a story. Given past events, it was plausible. Granted, they should have checked the footage from the security cameras before this hit the news, but going off on an anti-right wing rant over this makes you look every bit as much of a knee-jerking toolbag as the right-wingers you are so desperately eager to slam.
It's sad that Digg has so many blindly partisan imbeciles willing to applaud this reactionary mindset.- cuco, on 04/10/2008, -5/+17"Old" media is dead. The days when newspapers would do crappy reporting and then post a minuscule retraction are gone. I think this equally needs to reach the 2000+ diggs as the previous story that portrayed the so called attackers as rapists and murderers.
- awills, on 04/10/2008, -6/+6oldmandra is not talking about the article, just the first post. because it is so absurdly reactionarily liberal that it hurts. knee jerk liberals are just as stupid as knee jerk conservatives. the point is to think!
- thomasoa, on 04/10/2008, -5/+10New media won't be better
- LordVance, on 04/10/2008, -0/+4Eh - I disagree. It may not be miles better; however, I certainly like being able to read an article - and then scroll down, spend a few minutes sifting through the crap posts and find the informative posts that provide perspective on the article.

Any attempt to turn this into a "all Republicans in the universe suck" or "this shows how every liberal in the world is a moron" is lame and inaccurate...and makes you, CHIPSNGRAVY, look like a partisan loser.- nblsavage, on 04/10/2008, -19/+31Considering you dugg multiple submissions of the inaccurate story AND posted your bigoted spew I'd say slamming you wingnuts was completely deserved Spaz 'ol shoe.

- JimmySpaza, on 04/11/2008, -2/+2It was, after all, the more conservative Republican party that pushed through the Civil Rights Bill in the 60s. Most Democrats, composed of more liberal politicians, opposed the bill.

- Savagebeef, on 04/10/2008, -6/+8I agree with DRINKxREDxBULL, people from both ideologies fell for the story. I doubt that many people would be cynical enough to assume that a high school girl would fake an assault and rape story. Jumping to the conclusion that anyone who believed the original story is a racist is being as ignorant as the people you mock.
I don't think that it's either the Democrats or Republicans that are the problem with America, I think it's the problem is the fact there is so much hatred between supposed countrymen. - PatNolan, on 04/10/2008, -18/+8Oh please if she was black -- you all would be saying that it was terrible that society drove her to that point. .

- W00DR0W, on 04/10/2008, -2/+7What the hell are you talking about? When has falsely accusing someone of rape ever been explained away like that for anyone?
Do you understand how warped your view of society has to be for you to imagine something so ridiculous; I really need to know where someone gets these kind of ideas from. There's no conspiracy against white women who "cry rape".- PatNolan, on 04/13/2008, -1/+1The false accuser in the Duke story.

You're an idiot.- Samsauce, on 04/10/2008, -4/+4Exactly. Digg is full of left wing crap. She a 13 looking for attention, this retard turns it political. Hilarious.

- barc0de, on 04/10/2008, -4/+6I subscribe to the scopes urban legend newsletter - and you see this stuff over and over. Right wing scare stories that turn out to be complete baloney. Obama's a muslim, John Kerry pictured next to Jane Fonda, secret plans to replace the dollar with the "Amero". Why do the right need to lie so much?
- doctorfungi, on 04/10/2008, -1/+3You go on about critical thinking, yet place all right wingers under the same label, and appear to the type of person who would side with the left wingers on any issue just to spite right wingers.

Deport Ignorance- hmunkey, on 04/10/2008, -17/+15What's wrong with deporting Illegals? Keyword: Illegal.
- csplinter, on 04/10/2008, -5/+8WTF, don't digg down, this is a perfectly valid point. Support immigrants or not, the solution isn't to have people living here illegally. Anyone who would argue that it's ok for illegal immigrants to live here is a moron and, they should probably argue that our immigration laws are unfair instead, so that we might have some LEGAL immigrants.
- ICSU, on 04/10/2008, -1/+8Your ancestors would have been illegals with today's laws too so...
- coyote1284, on 04/10/2008, -3/+1@ICSU
While your statement is true, it's a false dichotomy. I think it says a lot for America that people would rather live here illegaly, in our worst conditions, and subjeted to hatred than in average conditions in their own country.- Dewhead, on 04/10/2008, -1/+2It does say alot for America that so many want to live here, but I have a major problem with illegal immigrants. I have a client that left Nigeria 10 years ago and came here legally. He's a Christain and some may know that is a very vunerable thing to be. He has been back home twice--once to get married and his wife cannot come here yet. He just became a citizen after having a 10 year visa. He is so happy because his wife will be able to come here now and become a citizen in two years.
I don't think it is fair that illegal immigrants take the place of people like this man and his wife. For each illegal there is a another human living in just as bad or even worse circumstances that will never even have the chance because someone else has stolen their chance just because they can. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. - boombye, on 04/10/2008, -1/+1Well how would we lose his place? How can you know illegals are entering the country, if they're entering illegally.. I mean if you could show me an illegal immigrant, it's not like they adveritise...
It's one thing to be against illegal immigration, but it's another to point a finger when you don't know where to point.

- macweirdo42, on 04/10/2008, -0/+4Why is it, when the subject is marijuana, digg users are quick to defend it, saying that the law is unjust, whereas in the case of illegal immigrants, there's no questioning the justness of the law, their only concern is that the law is being broken?
- jefbob, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1Very good point you have there. The same is true for copyright infringement laws.
Personally, I would guess that it is because a lot of Digg users aren't familiar with the laws behind immigration. Whereas with marijuana and copyright infringement, they know what the law is and can therefore form an opinion about it.
- jefbob, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1Very good point you have there. The same is true for copyright infringement laws.
- cruzinhe, on 04/10/2008, -3/+3I'm a Hispanic and I think they should deport every illegal person in the US back to their homes. Just as this kid is now facing the legal consequences of her prank, have every illegal person face them.

- Swarms, on 04/10/2008, -18/+32While there were racist idiots in the thread, there is nothing racist about not supporting ILLEGAL immigrants. People seem to confuse them with the legal ones, which most people have no problem with.
- pintomp3, on 04/10/2008, -4/+13if it's only about legality, then those people should have no problem with setting up something like ellis island on the mexican border.
- 1337Einstein, on 04/10/2008, -3/+18I find that the people most fervently opposed to illegal immigration are rarely driven by the dedication to a bureaucratically sound system of immigration, these concepts are not such that they would inspire any such emotion. Nay, the most outspoken on the topic are driven by something else, we all know exactly what that is, and I see no reason to humor those whom would feign ignorance on the subject by "explaining" what it is.
- sw33tsarin, on 04/10/2008, -12/+13I don't care whether you're white, black, brown, yellow or purple you have no right coming into this country illegally.

And I for one welcome our new Mexican overlords. - csplinter, on 04/10/2008, -3/+11Why do people digg this down!? It's so simple. I don't care whether you're white, black, brown, yellow or purple you have no right to break laws. Am I going to be dugg down now to? Illegal immigrants shouldn't be here because it's illegal!! If you want someone to not be an illegal immigrant thats a different story but, to argue that illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay here, is to argue that laws shouldn't be obeyed. Why argue that people should be able to break laws, when you can argue the laws should be changed! Come on!
- fictionalOne, on 04/10/2008, -2/+2My 1/16 Cherokee and 1/16 Aztec blood wants you to please leave this country, as you are here illegally.
- Bungloid, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2Legality should be a free flowing debate in our government. Consider a moment those that first protested laws on behalf of civil rights. Rosa Parks broke the LAW to sit where she sat and indeed went to jail, but also sparked a series of debates and protests that lead to one of the greatest equality movements this nation has ever seen. To tie yourself ignorantly to a law, simply because it is a law, promotes stagnancy and provides no room for the discussion of practices that just may be racist and inhumane. This is an argument not contained solely in the immigration issue as well. The fact that certain policies are made into laws does not make them inherently right or good, as history has proven time and again.
- Kurlumbenus, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2It's as foolish to follow laws blindly as it is to break laws blindly.
- sw33tsarin, on 04/10/2008, -1/+3Fictional, this wasn't even a country when the colonies were formed it was a land mass. Also, the Indians had no immigration law. Bungloid, you're talking about US citizens that's an entirely different topic. Look at every other countries immigration laws and see if you can find any that allow illegal immigrants to enter their country and remain there without citizenship or documentation.
- fictionalOne, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2I'm pretty sure that native Americans did not want invaders pushing them off their land and killing those who did not leave. Just because it wasn't written in European law, doesn't mean it is justifiable for Europeans to have done what they did to natives. What was done to the natives was genocide, which according to law, should be punishable. Where's the justice? Seeing this land as just a "land mass" is favorable ignorance.

- KidVicious, on 04/10/2008, -15/+10I didn't see much racism dugg up in the old thread. I saw some anti-illegal immigrant stuff, some anti-double standard stuff, and some anti-violence stuff though, all of which were rightfully up for conversation.
It's just interesting to me how so many people seem to like using the term racist to describe every other thing. - o0adam0o, on 04/10/2008, -3/+3I know it so funny how this thread and the first show 2 completely different sides of Digg....Im sure lots of people just gave the radical statements in order to get dugg up...pretty cheap IMO
- rjc5056, on 04/10/2008, -2/+17Right? After reading the first story's comments I thought to myself "Great! Xenophobic assholes have become the majority on this site. Digg must be exponentially more mainstream than when I first joined."
Guess it'd be nice if people realized that the way we usurped this country from it's original inhabitants would be considered "illegal" by today's standards. - yohnstoppable, on 04/10/2008, -9/+22Why is it racist to want someone to enter the country legally?
- csplinter, on 04/10/2008, -1/+1Listen to this man!
- Bungloid, on 04/10/2008, -0/+3Legality should be a free flowing debate in our government. Consider a moment those that first protested laws on behalf of civil rights. - yohnstoppable, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1To clarify my comments, I understand calling out people saying "immigrant trash" and ***** like that. I just think it is getting a little too widespread. If you want people to enter legally, I can see someone even saying "you're ignorant of the process. it takes xx amount of years". That is fair. I just don't like being called a racist is all
- o0adam0o, on 04/10/2008, -1/+2Because if all these illegals were here legally you would STILL complain. Your just annoyed by the fact that "non-americans" have fully inhabited this country and now you feel alienated in the country...boo-hoo.
- Picaroon, on 04/10/2008, -8/+4Uh, no. If the situation had been like the original story reported, and we had no way of knowing that was not the case, then everything said against illegal immigrants was (and is) valid. The only issue here is that this chick was a lying bitch. There wasn't racism, just a general anti-illegal sentiment, which is legitimate.
It doesn't make the illegality of some people in this country and their lack of appreciation any more valid, you tool.
http://www.blackfive.net/main/images/2007/10/03/me ... - xadious, on 04/10/2008, -2/+3So true. I didn't reply to the first digg post, but i knew something was up and there was a possibility that there was more to the story than met the eye. Racists, like the girl, are more than happy to lie about things - especially to get people they hate into trouble.
I hope next time something like this happens, and the girl/guy making the accusations is a flaming racist, people think twice rather than scream about how mexicans and immigrants need to be burned at a cross or something.
It's so easy to spot a racist when you see one, unfortunately the racist sympathisers will always pretend to be blind due to their own negative feelings hence other people will get influenced.- Dewhead, on 04/10/2008, -1/+3Were you just as outraged at the way the Duke players were treated? Or how about the black man in NY who hung up a noose and claimed that white people did it? Do you call them racist as well? If not, you are a hypocrit.
- solid12345, on 04/10/2008, -5/+2Well for one just because this incident was fake doesn't mean it is not happening all over. You think a white boy would walk down a Chicano neighborhood with MS-13 on the porch steps?
- davewashere, on 04/10/2008, -0/+9From original thread:
JimmyTheClam: Uh oh! The lefties are going into "minimization" and name calling mode when they don't like the news. This most certainly have made news if a bunch of whites attacked that girl because she was a Mexican. (+78)
Can we get a response to this turn of events, JimmyTheClam?- elegantjihad, on 04/10/2008, -0/+0But the story here was a lie...
- HorusHeresy, on 04/10/2008, -0/+3I'm half Mexican, and my wife is white. When we saw this article, first we knew that East Texas is a real hotbed of racial issues, and we also knew the whole story wasn't being told. When you are near the border, or, these days, anywhere in the US, and the whole 'illegal immigrant' argument starts, one can generally make the assumption that those against illegal immigration are speaking specifically about those with brown skin
I had my doubts about the story, and figured from the nature of her sign that she was in that boat. I don't know if I should be saddened or relieved that my thoughts were correct, but in any case, if the police became involved, then she should be charged with criminal activity, but I wouldn't want to see her punished too harshly, despite the attention that this got
Personally, I see nothing wrong with illegal immigration as long as they take the jobs that nobody really wants. I don't see too many US workers complaining that they can't get a job at the local meat packing plant.

THIS story has a conniving girl who manipulated her school, the news media, and the police with false accusations and reports.
Both reactions by diggers are perfectly reasonable. Before she was a victim, but now we know she's a lying bitch.- Lutremi, on 04/10/2008, -5/+10I agree. *gets shotgun*

- leetdood, on 04/10/2008, -6/+32Yeah, this doesn't invalidate the reaction of the last story- if it HAD happened, it'd be horrible. This is more bad though, because it means this girl helped perpetuate the idea that latinos = bad.
- Lokishot, on 04/10/2008, -2/+7I had the idea that latinos = exotic dancing and singing.
- csplinter, on 04/10/2008, -0/+4It's not just more bad, it's worser more bad.
- theshalit, on 04/10/2008, -2/+13I and a large amount of diggers called it on the spot. This was a girl with a flimsy story alleging things with absolutely no one else backing her up. You would have to be an idiot of the highest caliber to not take this bitch with a *bag* of salt.
- sougly, on 04/10/2008, -3/+2Isn't something taken with a bag of salt more worthy than with a grain of salt?
- blackinthmiddle, on 04/10/2008, -6/+25Alright, let's play devil's advocate for a sec. Remember, what, 15-20 years ago there was the Tawana Brawley story? Black girl gets raped by four white men. Al Sharpton comes to her defense only to find out she was lying. 'Til this day, Sharpton gets criticized for this. Well, he gets criticized for a lot of things, but that's not the point! Wasn't he doing the same thing that the majority on digg did on this morning's thread? You guys were ready to lynch the latinos based on what she said. Al Sharpton came to her defense based on what she said. How is this different?
- snugglebear, on 04/10/2008, -7/+1Diggers are extremists, just like Al Sharpton. They're insane about any cause, no matter what it is. Its what immature idealists try to do, they think everything is an amazing cause and you have to go insane for it. Their world is black and white, they support good, they yell and wave signs about the bad.
I have very poor opinions on anyone who acts in an extremist manner, be it terrorists, environmentalists, political supporters etc.- blackinthmiddle, on 04/10/2008, -0/+7See, that's where I disagree with you. If someone tells you a story, you vet it out as much as possible and go with it. All the while you're keeping your eyes and ears open for anything that would make you not believe it. Once you find out the person is lying to you, you obviously back away.
As much as many had some pretty nasty comments this morning, I think we can all understand that the story seemed legit. As soon as it was proven otherwise, people stopped supporting the girl. What more do you want a person to do? You can go the other route and when a girl cries rape assume she's either lying or brought it on herself. The solution is to believe a story, but always keep your wits about you and continually check the facts to see if it makes sense.- snugglebear, on 04/10/2008, -2/+4Tell that to the duke lacrosse boys who got shat upon by the entire world for god knows how long.
Believing what people say until you find proof otherwise infringes on other people's rights. Even if its not in a legal sense, those duke boys should not have been molested by the media, Al Sharpton and god knows who else. Even if they HAD commited the crimes they were accused, you had no evidence whatsoever to prove it, yet how many people ran around talking about how evil and racist those boys were? In America its innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around. At trials they have to establish beyond a reasonable doubt the person is guilty, but nowadays with the media and you lot announce things as true with no evidence at all. Thats not keeping your eyes and ears open, its believing anything that comes blowing by. - thebaron2, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1"The solution is to believe a story, but always keep your wits about you and continually check the facts to see if it makes sense."
What happened to the presumption of INNOCENCE? Believing the story first and looking for contrary evidence later assumes guilt while keeping an open mind to the possibility you're wrong. If someone cried rape I think the best thing to do would take it on an evidence-based basis - don't jump to either conclusion before reviewing evidence.
- snugglebear, on 04/10/2008, -2/+4Tell that to the duke lacrosse boys who got shat upon by the entire world for god knows how long.
- omegared, on 04/10/2008, -2/+3So whites can say hateful comments about a race when they commit when they think they commit a crime? I am sorry but that is no excuse for the things that were said about MEXICANS not only the kids that diggers thought committed the crime. There is a difference between saying hateful comments about a group of people than there is about a single person, which was happening on digg this morning.
- csplinter, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1Well said!
- blackinthmiddle, on 04/10/2008, -0/+7See, that's where I disagree with you. If someone tells you a story, you vet it out as much as possible and go with it. All the while you're keeping your eyes and ears open for anything that would make you not believe it. Once you find out the person is lying to you, you obviously back away.
- wsanders, on 04/10/2008, -2/+10Most diggers don't claim to speak for the entire black community as Al Sharpton claims.
- ramboner32x, on 04/10/2008, -1/+0I agree with your point, but one difference worth mentioning is that Al Sharpton still claims that he's right even today.
- dbz253, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1who in this thread mentioned anything about this being different?
- snugglebear, on 04/10/2008, -7/+1Diggers are extremists, just like Al Sharpton. They're insane about any cause, no matter what it is. Its what immature idealists try to do, they think everything is an amazing cause and you have to go insane for it. Their world is black and white, they support good, they yell and wave signs about the bad.
- temugen, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2You have to admit though, she did a damn good job (up until the whole video review thing). Anyone reminded of Liar Liar?
- omegared, on 04/10/2008, -2/+8yeah except in the original thread diggers were commenting about how Mexicans were ruining the usa and committing crimes. I don't think think that was a normal reaction but one of hate to a particular racial group. How come whites never get described as a single group but other races do?
- leetdood, on 04/10/2008, -3/+2You forgot, white devils are the only group guilty of racism, and they discriminate against all races. They're all also secretly nazis at heart, and want to re-enslave the black race.
- leetdood, on 04/10/2008, -2/+2Just in case some people don't get it- I was being sarcastic, pointing out that white people DO get described as a single group.
- leetdood, on 04/10/2008, -3/+2You forgot, white devils are the only group guilty of racism, and they discriminate against all races. They're all also secretly nazis at heart, and want to re-enslave the black race.
- caramba420, on 04/10/2008, -1/+4Yet, even after the spotlight has shown on all the racism, you're still calling us 'diggers' instead of the preferred nomenclature, 'Subterranean Americans."

- salomejones, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1She's also a minor who is now unlawfully identified.
- crichton101, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1This really makes me think of the play "The Crucible", where some young girls lie about others saying they are witches and playing the victims of said witches in Salem back in the late 1600s. Kind of creepy in that way.
- Lutremi, on 04/10/2008, -5/+10I agree. *gets shotgun*
- davidwasman, on 04/10/2008, -71/+188To all the neo-con f*cktards who paraded around all high and mighty in the original article about how us 'lefties' hide when these stories happen...it's because we always like to know ALL the facts before we go blaming or assuming...unlike you.
Eat it.- TheFinaleofSeem, on 04/10/2008, -10/+47There were plenty of self-proclaimed lefties calling for blood after this story too, so I guess this "we" does not always like to know ALL the facts before blaming or assuming. Sure, there are right-wing trolls, but Digg is filled with knee-jerkers on any part of the political spectrum.
- cuco, on 04/10/2008, -17/+6Ok, not lefites, racist white people
- bobburn, on 04/10/2008, -9/+9Yup, just good ol' family caucasian racism. So-called progressives, right-wingers, klan members, all united to call for the expulsion of those dirty dirty 'latinos'. Great job digg.
- cuco, on 04/10/2008, -17/+6Ok, not lefites, racist white people
- bossm4n, on 04/10/2008, -20/+8And I guess you get ALL your facts from Reddit, since you've made it perfectly clear that all original content derives from there. Or maybe all those facts come from rawstory, crooksandliars, dailykos, whitehouser or some other pathetic piece of recycled propaganda posing as news. Seriously, this story was picked up by legitimate news outlets who were as in the dark as the rest of us. So please tell us, oh great sniffer of his own farts, where did you go to seek out the truth regarding this story?

- AronT, on 04/10/2008, -14/+19You're an idiot. I guarantee you were not out doing any kind of fact checking so you could make a comment. You didn't do ***** - which is basically what everyone did (that's right, in the grande scheme of things commenting on Digg is classified as doing nothing).
Please shut your high and might blow hole because nobody wants to hear the crap spewing out of it.- davidwasman, on 04/10/2008, -4/+5I never dugg the original story because I didn't find it credible BEFORE this came out.
No matter how bad people proclaim minorities to be, I doubted highly that such a simple sign would have brought on hatred so vile an ass beating would have ensued. And in all her pics, not one showed her with any more than a few 'scratches'. An ass beating usually means a black eye, at the least. In fact, MOST racially motived crime is from ignorant racists, not minorities.
Finally, she was the one who was trying to make a point with the sign, not anyone else.
Now it all adds up...and yes, I did research it. Unlike a lot of newbs here (who have ruined the site), I am not some 4chan jackass just sitting on digg waiting to make the next meme.

- markpoepsel, on 04/10/2008, -47/+117Here's what we learned today:
1. People are pissed about illegal immigration; They're pissed enough to believe a teenage girl's made up story before all the facts are out.
2. Even though the girl made it up, if she had been attacked that would have solved nothing and would have given the anti-illegals an anchor point.
3. Legal immigration is far more complicated than most Americans realize.
4. Assuming people need only the will power to "MAN UP AND FIGHT" is a simplistic view of US-World economic and political relations. E.G. one version of manning up and fighting economic oppression might be called terrorism.
5. Tomorrow it will turn out she really did get beaten up, they just didn't catch it on tape, so no one should be proud. ANECDOTES DON'T PROVE EITHER SIDE.- TheFinaleofSeem, on 04/10/2008, -3/+70The footage showed her putting the marks on herself. The girl admitted that she made it up. Her parents agree that she made it up. How is it going to be proven otherwise?

- macweirdo42, on 04/10/2008, -2/+37Um, yeah, I was with you up until point #5. That she made it up isn't anecdotal. There's no question at this point.
- erienion, on 04/10/2008, -1/+3Really agree with point three, these issues about immigration are very complicated it's far easier to pick a simplistic view based on only selected information than to even try and understand both sides.

Dispicable. Reminds me of the Salem Witch Trials and how they believed all those lying teenagers.- JimmySpaza, on 04/10/2008, -17/+1Those teenagers weren't lying about everything. They really were involved in witchcraft and satanic activity as taught by their nanny/housekeeping/cook from Africa or Jamaica (can't remember which).
I actually went to Salem and visited the town. They have a pretty nice automated play with computer-controlled lights and sound. It tells of the Salem witch trials from the perspective that there really wasn't any witchcraft and the whole thing was based on religious-based hysteria...which is not entirely the case.
Studying the history, even from an anti-religion and biased perspective, seems to reveal that those girls in question really were into something mystical and dangerous.- vertexoflife, on 04/10/2008, -1/+16"Studying the history, even from an anti-religion and biased perspective, seems to reveal that those girls in question really were into something mystical and dangerous."

I think my head just exploded- JimmySpaza, on 04/11/2008, -2/+1No, I rebutted the assertion that those girls involved in the witch trials lied about EVERYTHING. That's all. Don't read more into what is posted than...what is posted.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA.
It's nuts like you that believe inane ***** like witchcraft, demons, curses, and other stupid *****... that sometimes results in the KILLING of INNOCENT PEOPLE. And you just defended that sort of thing.
You're deluded.- JimmySpaza, on 04/11/2008, -2/+1No, I said that those girls did not lie about EVERYTHING. That's all. I made no mention of the morality of the trials themselves. Don't be a knee-jerk, emotional liberal.
- crichton101, on 04/10/2008, -1/+3Wow dude guess what, magic isn't real. Nothing supernatural happened then, those girls where conniving little bitches who got innocent people killed.
- ayakitsune, on 04/11/2008, -1/+2The "nanny/housekeeping/cook" was a slave woman from Barbados named Tituba. She was not African, and she was one of the first accusations because there were already societal mistrusts in place concerning anyone with colored skin. She may well have been practicing magic tricks brought in from her own culture, but the likelihood of their being Satanic is minimal.
I, too, have been to Salem and seen their nice automated play, and it WAS religion-based hysteria, sorry. The trials did not affect only the town of Salem but that entire area, and were a result of a combination of problems, such as quarrels over land, fear of attacks from the Indians who were seen as terrifying and Satanic heathens, and general political strife. In many cases the young people who were "afflicted" were refugees from areas of the colonies where there had been Indian attacks and their parents were slaughtered in front of them, they had no dowries and prospects for marriage and thus survival looked bleak. Also, women at the time were severely desexualized and taught they had to be submissive by their own religion, and simply being angry or discontent with your lot meant you were going against God's plan for your life and therefore sinning. "Possession", in retrospect, was generally a mental breakdown which was translated into bewitchment because, due to the predominant religious beliefs, that's what would explain these behaviors, and being possessed gave these people an outlet to say and do things that they would not normally be able to in their society.
Only a few years after the trials, the judges who had been involved apologized and stated that they had been swept up in the events; that they had not truly known what they were looking for and that they believed they had contributed to the deaths of innocent people. One of the afflicted girls also later apologized for killing innocent people. It was a hysteria.- JimmySpaza, on 04/11/2008, -5/+1Having been in the presence of someone possessed by demons, with all the supernatural stuff associated with it, I can honestly say with authority that your assertion that this "possession" was due to a mental breakdown did NOT have to be the case.
This kind of weird supernatural occurrence does indeed happen.
Does it explain every case of mental weirdness? No, of course not. But, when you know what to look for and have experienced this kind of thing, you begin to be able to differentiate between mental illnesses and demonic influence.
This case of the girls in the Salen Witch trials smacks of demonic influence. It has many of the signs and symptoms.- ayakitsune, on 04/11/2008, -1/+1I'm Pagan, honey. Don't lecture me about supernatural stuff, and do not think that by throwing experience with possession in peoples' faces they will suddenly take you seriously. It certainly did not HAVE to be the case, but it was; you are relying on sources that have a definite bias toward demonic influence, because of the pervading religious and cultural notions at the time. When every myriad horror these people experienced "smacked of demonic influence" in their eyes, why wouldn't this?
Go back further and research the history of demonology itself, and the witch hunts of Europe.

Sort of off-topic but the other day I saw this article on BBC News that quoted a woman named Hema something saying that Britain should tighten the immigration requirements. I found that sad and funny at the same time because the photo + the name clearly indicated that she was either from India or one of our neighbours.

My best guess is that it's a "right wing" news station, and this site is filled with Lefties? Lol, i think "filled" is an understatement. - cuco, on 04/10/2008, -3/+16The facts in the original story just never made common sense. She claimed a "group of boys" attacked her when the video only showed possibly one or two boys involved, she said that they slammed her face against a brick wall... and only a couple of scratches on her face. Must've been people with easily dense heads to buy her story at face value.
Racism blinds common sense- blackinthmiddle, on 04/10/2008, -4/+2As a black man, I bought her story. The one thing I did question, however, was the guys attacking her. Something just didn't seem right about that. Usually women attack women and a guy will get more flak from his friends for attacking a woman. However, I didn't think she was lying. Maybe my lie detector is on the fritz.
- nInn, on 04/10/2008, -4/+1Where do you live? Schoolkids don't differentiate a girl from a boy when a beatdown is prescribed.
Your lie detector needs re-calibration. Go look at the original video and look at how much mischief is evident on her face. Easy one to call this one.

Usually women attack women and a guy will get more flak from his friends for attacking a woman. However, I didn't think she was lying. Maybe my lie detector is on the fritz.
- kmb1794, on 04/10/2008, -9/+4(in opera voice) Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd theeeeeeeeeeeeeeee liiiiittttttttttttttttttttlllllle piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggggggggggggy haaad aaaaa piiiiiiiiiiggggggggggggyyy faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace (bow, exit)
- Falldog, on 04/10/2008, -16/+4This just in, Hillary pardons east Texas girl.
- TwineHornet, on 04/10/2008, -6/+13Damn, she should've made the scratches in the bathroom.
- swrostmore, on 04/10/2008, -16/+63Nationalist assholes using lies to justify their xenophobia? I'm SHOCKED.
- NaziHatinChimp, on 04/10/2008, -15/+30Alright I am sure all those republicans will be here any minute to apologize.
No?- cuco, on 04/10/2008, -6/+10Republicans apologize? Only when they're caught having sex with people they shouldn't...
hehehe in all honestly the Dems are the same way too. Anyone uber-partisan for that matter...
- cuco, on 04/10/2008, -6/+10Republicans apologize? Only when they're caught having sex with people they shouldn't...
- highlymodified, on 04/10/2008, -9/+155Blah blah blah...the ACLU will defend those wicked latinos....blah blah blah...Leftist scum...blah...IF THAT WAS A MINORITY GIRL BEATEN BY WHITIES....blah blah blah...
She ***** FAKED the marks! Talk about a racially motivated crime. Kick HER out of school.
Cram it up your cramhole.- DRINKxREDxBULL, on 04/10/2008, -15/+3She is lair. That must mean there is no issue with all white on black crime being labeled a "hate crime" while black on white crime is not even reported.
- travis6690, on 04/10/2008, -0/+19Dugg for cramhole.
- Mokshaguy390, on 04/10/2008, -0/+5Well, if a cramhole wasn't made for cramming, I'd be damned.
- santasing, on 04/10/2008, -5/+58I don't know if it has been mentioned, but I think the parents acted very bravely and responsibly.
- fastfox213, on 04/10/2008, -14/+7Are you serious? The parents wanted heads to roll and said they would not be satisfied until the alleged attackers were kicked out of school. That would have effectively ruined any chance for them to go to a decent college and be successful in life. Now that the facts are out, shouldn't they agree with their daughter being expelled?
- ichunxo, on 04/10/2008, -0/+14Yes, they should.. and they did...
- fastfox213, on 04/10/2008, -6/+1I wasn't aware they agreed with their daughter being kicked out of school, it appeared that the father thought the filing a false police report charge was punishment enough.
- rhumber, on 04/10/2008, -0/+18well when they believed their daughter had been viciously attacked they were understandably upset, but they acted surprisingly rationally once the truth was out. props to them ^^
- fastfox213, on 04/10/2008, -7/+0I'm not so sure about giving them "props". Although not proven, it is highly likely that this girl's clearly bigoted views were at least partially influenced by her parents views.
- ichunxo, on 04/10/2008, -0/+14Yes, they should.. and they did...
- blackinthmiddle, on 04/10/2008, -3/+13Agreed. How often do you hear a story where a child misbehaves, only to here that their parents approve of said behavior? At least they're not enablers.
- ghostoftomjoad, on 04/10/2008, -0/+3Makes you wonder who messed her up this bad though, doesn't it?
- omgwhat, on 04/10/2008, -0/+4sometimes 13 year old girls just do stuff like this. i know a couple of girls with really REALLY good parents, but they were attention seeking terrors for a few years. middle schoolers are the worlds worst people.
- jrak, on 04/10/2008, -1/+5Is raising a child to be a liar 'brave and responsible'?
How many innocent people are in prison *right now* because of what someone like this girl did?
Sure, when she turns 18 seal her juvenile record, but right now the justice system needs to make an example of her. I don't know what that means exactly, but it should be severe. Making up crimes is not quite the worst thing a person can do, but close. It is a disgustingly unique and unusually cruel punishment for the falsely accused because they have to suffer the dual humiliation of the punishment itself but more importantly they suffer the stigmatization of society. For someone who is not guilty, this can be extremely painful. And it never stops as long as anyone remembers, unless someone shows up with a videotape like in this case.
False accusations have another side effect, they demean real crime victims.
Lying about crimes and destroying lives (plural) is extremely easy. Can anyone say, "Lacross?"
Sure, you can't deter every criminal liar, but you can deter some. One thing is for sure, if people are not deterred from making false accusations then no one is safe. Not you, and not anyone else.

- darkcss, on 04/10/2008, -5/+14Jeez... I just read the first story on the front page. Now I find out it's fake. Makes you wonder how many grains of salt some 'front page' stories are worth.
- blackinthmiddle, on 04/10/2008, -0/+3Well, in defense of the lynch mob on this morning's thread, we're not journalists. We see the news, check with a couple other sources to see if they're reporting the same thing, then digg the article (or bury it). Usually, if a story is b.s. at least one person will find out and will flag the article as such. Hell, even her parents and school officials didn't know the story was made up at first. How would we have figured this one out?
As soon as she was outed as a liar, that fact also made digg's home page.
