Earthquake Hit Students Find Light in the Dark
weirdasianews.com — 19 year old Meng and Gong were neighbors, they are two of the lucky ones to be alive. Despite losing their homes and classrooms, and without enough clean water or food, they were still studying hard in the ruins for their tests.

I must admire their perseverance, there can be disasters, but nothing will stop these kids. In the U.S. private construction companies are legally responsible for their work, and compete on their safety records.
In socialist China, government and military-controlled bureaucracies own or control all major industries. Without competitive pressure or legal consequences, they have no incentive to build buildings that don't collapse in the slightest quake.
