- allocate, on 01/01/2009, -6/+48All forms of celebration? What if I celebrate in my heart?
- alanocu, on 01/01/2009, -4/+31That's the sweetest thing I've heard all day.
- BambinosKrib, on 01/02/2009, -22/+49Dubai should be commended.
PS: Is it just me or has Digg been infested with the Zionist Propaganda Brigade the last couple of days? You bastards aren't fooling anybody. - alanocu, on 01/01/2009, -39/+66Imagine the horror they must be feeling after having to shut down those refrigerated Versace beaches and canceling the all-can-drink champagne bars at the 7 star hotels in Dubai.
I mean it's just tragic the sacrifices people have to make.
Hopefully, the slaves who have been busy building those rotating skyscrapers were given the day off. Best guess is that they're eating the leftovers everyone dropped on the floor when they found out they weren't going to be able to drop a couple million on a one-night hotel stay at the Burj Al Arab.
It's no wonder that the line of people waiting to get free soup at the homeless shelters in America would disgust the rest of the world in comparison to the tragic 7 course meals they're having in Dubai today. - RAGEdemon, on 01/02/2009, -13/+36It's no secret that America provides the funds and Military aid for Israel. Where did those F-16s come from?
America has more blood on its hands.
Perhaps one of these days the ignorant masses will realise that this is the reason the arabs smash planes into their buildings.
The truth hurts. - inactive, on 01/01/2009, -3/+24Pass me a tissue...
- GoKings, on 01/02/2009, -4/+22Damn those wealthy people and their excessive amounts of porches...
- foopirata, on 01/02/2009, -5/+22So, let me get this: instead of using their billions of oil money to convince Hamas to act like a government and to build infra-structure for the Gazans, instead of spending their time doing diplomacy and actually trying to get something accomplished, their "contribution" to the Palestinian people is to cancel a couple of parties.
Yeah, that's useful. It seems the Palestinians can really count on their Arab "brothers". - carshadfan, on 01/02/2009, -22/+38DEAR ZIONISTS
YOU ARE LOSING SYMPATHY WITH REGARDS TO THE LIBERAL LEFT WING IN AMERICA BECAUSE GRASSROOTS CAMPAIGNS AND HUMAN RIGHTS ARE BECOMING LARGER ISSUES. AND GUESS WHAT? SPOUTING YOUR IGNORANT ***** HERE MAKES EVEN MORE PEOPLE SIDE WITH PALESTINIANS. WATCH WHERE THE WORLD STANDS IN 10 YEARS. enjoy your civilian bloodshed, you may not be accountable now but you will be in the ***** future. people are waking up and no longer listening to the ***** coming from the MSM. stop the sieges on palestinian territories, stop taking their materials, stop blocking water flows, stop blocking electricity. it kind of takes away from that angelic image that you guys are 'sending endless supplies into palestine' when it's you ***** morons with the blockades.
there will be justice.
that is all. - Kanten, on 01/02/2009, -1/+16That or they realized they had no money left after oil prices crashed.
- mitch37, on 01/02/2009, -9/+23What the hell has that have to do with the article? Dubai is cancelling their celebrations in respect for the horror that is going on in Gaza. And you start ranting about the American homeless.... wtf?
- 7Wiseguy, on 01/02/2009, -12/+26Yeah, the Zionist Propaganda Brigade has been working overtime the last couple of days in Digg, Youtube, Twitter, and Blogosphere.
- zaferk, on 01/02/2009, -0/+13>The Dubai Public Prosecution charged the women with kissing, groping each other and indecent acts in public - the first case of its kind in the country.
>kissing, groping each other and indecent acts in public - aereaus, on 01/02/2009, -7/+20If Dubai is so pissed why don't they open their doors to the Palestinians and give them jobs and housing. I'm so sick of the situation in Israel and sick of the bleeding hearts on Digg that support them. I know I'll get dugg down for this, but I don't care. The "Palestinians" came from all over the Middle East when Israel was established because of the jobs that were created. Then they started bitching at and bombing their employers. It's all *****.
It's just like here in Denmark. Muslims come to live and work, then they bring their whole families over, who sit on welfare and don't contribute. They rant and rave that they don't get equal treatment, yet they refuse to integrate into the society here, segregating themselves and causing more harm then good.
- oda1, on 01/02/2009, -5/+16IS IT BECOMING A TREND TO POST COMMENTS IN ALL-CAPS?

The truth hurts. - skaag, on 01/02/2009, -2/+12It's because they are out of money. It's very nice to find excuses that fit your political agenda.
- Tanktunker, on 01/02/2009, -2/+12Off with his hands.
- Paktu, on 01/02/2009, -6/+16I'm an American currently living in Dubai. The tone of your post might have been sarcastic, but you have no idea how upset some people were about this.
- incidentflux, on 01/02/2009, -5/+15They could've still had the festivities but donated all profits to the charities operating in Gaza. This cancellation mostly hurt the lower income employees who lost big as they would've made serious cash in tips etc. It's in good faith but has no useful direct pratical postive impact to the people suffering in Palestine.
P.S.: The Shakira concert went ahead as planned in the neighbouring capital Abu Dhabi, around 60 Kms away from Dubai.

http://www.gulf-news.com/nation/Leisure/10271697.h ... - RAGEdemon, on 01/02/2009, -9/+18There are 13.3 million jews in the world, most with internet access. There are 1610 million Muslims in the world. Most without but fast gaining internet access.
I wonder which brigade will win in the near future. - inactive, on 01/02/2009, -3/+12Did you hear of Isreal's "blogosphere" squad?
Thats one of them. Everything to make the Muslims look like *****, even if they are the one canceling celebrations because of the violence, unlike some who took time to finish lightning all their candles in the same period. - borez, on 01/02/2009, -0/+9Dubais property prices have dropped 40% in the last six month. I'm thinking it's more to do with the fact that they can't actually afford to put them on.
FTR: From what a saw when I was in Dubai, I personally think that the place is unsustainable. They're relying on a massive tourist trade and an influx of property buyers that, quite frankly, are never gonna come their way. - 4eloBek, on 01/02/2009, -1/+10i thought its cos oil is 35.... and noone buys Dubai isles
- emrldwpn, on 01/02/2009, -4/+13I don't think that New Year's can truly be considered a Western/Christian celebration. Although it is based off the Georgian calendar, it's not a Christian holiday.
So much for your analogy... - RAGEdemon, on 01/02/2009, -10/+19You are an idiot. Stop regurgitating the lies the media has fed you.
The IRA in the UK bombarded many targets and killed many people through many means. We did not send in our fighter planes to bomb their churches and government buildings.
Now we are all at peace.
Hamas can say the same about Israel.
Israel bombs their cities, kills their people indiscriminently, occupies their land illegaly, and you expect them to NOT fire rockets at Israel?
What planet are you from?
Just because one side has fighter jets and modern technology similar to the west does not make them right. And just because one side fights with stones and home made rockets doesn't automatically make them terrorists.
If someone came and occupied your house, killed your children, mparents, brothers and sister, your neighbours and your friends, would you not fight back?
Israel has bombed Gaza thousands of times in the past. When has it ever stopped the rocket attacks?
But if you were to get your head out of your arse, you would know that. - doctordbx, on 01/02/2009, -1/+101st day of the Gregorian Calendar.
- michaelpinto, on 01/02/2009, -21/+30"freewheeling Gulf city state" = you get sent to jail for kissing on the beach
- inactive, on 01/02/2009, -0/+8So you admit to spamming, I guess you get points for honesty.
Of course, as you can see for yourself it's not changing many opinions here and simply bringing more hostility down on your cause. - RAGEdemon, on 01/02/2009, -16/+23How many people have the rockets killed over the last week?
0
How many people has Israel killed in the same time?
200+
Get your head out of your arse. - lolwutpear, on 01/02/2009, -6/+13I like the fact that people comment these articles in all caps. It makes them easier to find and bury.

- 2Six119, on 09/10/2009, -3/+9...Because I just came.
- doctordbx, on 01/02/2009, -3/+9Well, the article is a bit late but it did cause quite a stink here in Dubai when it was announced... at 11 PM on December 30th. It was a bit of ***** trying to re-organise plans to celebrate, and then the next day to find that the decision was mostly quietly reversed.... limited to no live bands, no fireworks and that was pretty much it.
The damage was done though, a lot of businesses lost money. Not too much sympathy gained for Hamas, or Sheikh Mo. - hoist0that0rag, on 01/02/2009, -7/+13they should probably convince Hamas to stop lobbing rockets into Israel, then. they must want to get back to their partying at some point.
i don't get how it's such a bad thing for a country to defend itself. if you don't want to get smooshed, don't antagonize the guys with all the scary hardware. simple. - azzurone89, on 01/02/2009, -2/+8ummm...more like some arabs with a sympathy for innocent human life.
- inactive, on 01/02/2009, -7/+13The truth about Dubai can be found here

Before you think about traveling to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or any other place in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.), you should review the information in this website. - 7Wiseguy, on 01/02/2009, -16/+21***** fireworks, those Zionists have been firing at Palestinians
- RAGEdemon, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5"This is just amazing..."
Indeed. That's reality for you.
Forgiveness is divine, but paranoia and revenge are more human. - Lockean, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5So if your wife is murdered but your city has a low crime rate then everything is still alright where you live? Statistics and casualty rates mean little to the families of killed non-combatants. Not saying that letting rockets fly is in any way condonable but FFS you're being ridiculous. Just because they kill fewer civilians than most other aggressive action does not make their actions acceptable.
- Jerky1312, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5It was not just Dubai, a bunch of Arab and Muslim majority nations canceled their NYE celebrations...

- orchidee2, on 01/02/2009, -3/+7I can understand easily that people in the Gaza stripe are not in the mood for celebrations at the moment. Nevertheless, my wish for the region is peace! I think, the designated president Obama is in charge here, too. If there is someone to function as a mediator, it might be him. What I find most important, concidering this longlasting conflict, is to always look on both sides. Nether the completely senseless attacs of Hamas, nor Israel“s strategic settlement practice are really made for peace-making ...
- kolobcreek, on 01/02/2009, -1/+5I would wager it was because they lost their shirts or what ever they wear over there in the Credit Market.
Face it. No one really gives a ***** about the Palestinians. They just hate the Israelis. - inactive, on 01/02/2009, -1/+5it's time to just let Israel and Palestine just finish this with no help from the US.
- fandyboy, on 01/02/2009, -3/+74 people have died due to Hamas rockets uin the last week FFS. At least get your facts straight.
- inactive, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4Who get them from the Russians and the Chinese, two countries who's influence in the world is growing while America's is starting to fade.
