Dr. Phil bails out cheerleader charged in videotaped beating
omg.yahoo.com — A new low for Oprah's buddy as Dr Phil tries to get vicious teen on his show.

- ennTOXX, on 04/14/2008, -4/+52OK this just ads to the pathetic fuel for ratings & greed "MY SHOW SUCKS" cause. I don't watch the DR. Phil show, but at least I'm not the only one who thinks like this about it... :||
- yojiffyskippy, on 04/14/2008, -4/+103Only Oprah can kill this monster that she breathed life into. PLEASE put a stop to this insanity Oprah. PLEASE!
- sockpuppets, on 04/14/2008, -0/+31...because Oprah is on Digg?
(Oh, edit: Oprah is so all powerful that my spellchecker knows who she is?)
(Oh double edit: my spellchecker doesn't know what spellchecker is?")- yahoofrom, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3Even digg spellchecker knows Oprah.
(Edit. digg spellchecker now knows digg) - Frost9999, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1spell-checker should probably be hyphenated.
- yahoofrom, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3Even digg spellchecker knows Oprah.
- sulthernao, on 04/14/2008, -12/+2This is going to hurt Obama. Clearly, because Oprah has endorsed Obama, and her monster is out of control, this is going to hurt Obama in states like Pennsylvania. He is out of touch, why hasn't he renounced and rejected this man? Shame on you Barack, Shame on you. [/HRC]
- Diderotten, on 04/14/2008, -1/+3streeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech
- moofer, on 04/14/2008, -0/+101. Oprah had Tom Cruise on her show for his now famous couch-jumping appearance...
2. Tom Cruise was in Jerry Maguire with Cuba Gooding Jr...
3. Cuba Gooding Jr. Was in Radio, with Ed Harris...
4. Ed Harris co-starred on Apollo 13 with...
KEVIN BACON!!!
4 Steps... BOOSH!!!
- sockpuppets, on 04/14/2008, -0/+31...because Oprah is on Digg?
- hawksdomain, on 04/14/2008, -6/+71Just saw on the news that it was Phil, but his staff. He is outraged, the planned topic has been canceled. I'm not defending him, just saying...
Plus, the page is gone now.- jontalisman, on 04/14/2008, -9/+25Somehow, I doubt anything happens on that show without the bad Dr.'s approval...
- Bamont, on 04/14/2008, -0/+6Actually, I've worked in Television - and as a producer, its a cut throat industry where only a few survive. Producers work 12-14 hour days and sometimes more if they're trying to get a show made. Not justifying this, only saying that they are tasked with getting hard-to-get guests on his show so that Phil can rip them to shreds on TV (I don't think much "assistance" really goes on). So, chances are these are people that have worked for him for a while and thought they could get her on his show. He should have known, but when you put people as producers you assume they know what's best for the show. Not always the case, and human beings (even producers) have a lack in judgment at times.
- sarixe, on 04/14/2008, -4/+18i smell a publicity stunt...
- kevro, on 04/14/2008, -5/+2Dr. phil bends over, pinches a piece of grass and lets it go to the wind. Ahhhh, I'm out raged.
- WilliamDavis, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3Here's his staff arguing with a reporter. Pretty funny.
http://www.tmz.com/tmz_main_video?titleid=15011997 ... - quisph, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2We have only the show's word to go on. If Dr. Phil or any of the higher-ups were involved, I doubt they would admit it. And I find it a little bit suspicious that apparently no one has been fired over this...
But I don't really care whether Dr. Phil was personally involved; he is still responsible to the extent that he helped create the machinery for this sickeningly exploitative show. Things like this are bound to happen from time to time in his line of work.
- jontalisman, on 04/14/2008, -9/+25Somehow, I doubt anything happens on that show without the bad Dr.'s approval...
- smash20, on 04/14/2008, -2/+20He should get Dick Masterson back on his show, instead.
- PussInBoots, on 04/14/2008, -3/+9http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0xoKiH8JJM
- thebellmaster1x, on 04/14/2008, -0/+7The look on that woman's face is absolutely priceless.
- cmost, on 04/14/2008, -6/+21Dr. Phil is more of an attention Whore than Tyra Banks! Is there any ambulance he won't chase? Oprah needs to keep him on a tighter leash! Better yet, she needs to put him out of his (and our) misery once and for all.
- sfgeek, on 04/14/2008, -7/+2I agree. She could easily do it (and should.) If she just said publicly that he has lost all credibility, his network would yank him in a heartbeat. His presence is the only stain on her essentially peerless credibility. I mean, who doesn't like Oprah? Cutting down Phil would only serve to boost her cred, if that is even possible.
Actually, I think Oprah has paved the way for Obama not by being by his side, but just by being her over the past few decades. Scardy white people go "Oooh looky! She's cool, smart, wise, fun, approachable and successful and she's black too!" - alk509, on 04/14/2008, -0/+6As someone who doesn't follow celebrity and doesn't watch Dr. Phil, I don't understand all the hate on the guy... Can someone explain to us ignoramuses what's wrong with him?
- stupidStan, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2looks like no one knows... just following the mob?
(I have no idea either) - notouch, on 04/14/2008, -1/+3I only saw half of his show once, it was talking about how teens should say no to sex when they aren't comfortable about it. Good topic, except he push all that responsibility to the girls, saying it's up to the girls entirely when their bf tell them to prove their love by having sex.
When audience told him that guys should prove their love to the girls by not forcing them to sex, Dr Phil kept going around that question and keep saying it's entirely the girl's responsibility, etc.
10 minutes into the show, all the impression I get from him is a fat stupid sexist.
A month later, saw him in an news article promoting his new book about weight loss. When interviewed, report asked him how can he put up a weight-loss book when himself is rather fat. He claims he's not fat, he's healthy.
Those are my reasons for disliking him so very much.
- stupidStan, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2looks like no one knows... just following the mob?
- bukiyou, on 04/14/2008, -1/+1what got him popular was this no ***** attitude where he'd yell at people who were were difficult and irrational. The diagnoses he makes appeal to popular belief more or less. They're quick fixes, he usually chooses one party over the other, and his solutions to problems a lot of the time are to suck it up and take more responsibility.

- killbert24, on 04/14/2008, -6/+63Dr. Phil is such a joke. His show sucks, his hairdo sucks, and his advice is the worst. He's Captain Obvious to the extreme. He gives psychology a bad name and I hope this teen kicks him in the balls.

- Steven8890, on 04/14/2008, -8/+2Why?
- str1fe, on 04/14/2008, -1/+6Because he turns his guests' problems into the world's entertainment when 65% of them are issues that need to be dealt with privately with a real psychologist. The other 35% are scripted. Dr. Phil is not a psychiatrist or anything of the sort, he's an entertainer.

- stavrogin2, on 04/14/2008, -1/+4I've seen one Dr. Phil episode. He interviewed a little girl who had been molested by her grandfather. The article is boring, honestly.
BARTOW, Fla. (AP) — Employees of the "Dr. Phil" television show posted bail for a central Florida teenager jailed for taking part in a videotaped beating of another teen, a spokeswoman for the show's host confirmed Saturday.
Staff members of the talk show helped Mercades Nichols — one of eight teens facing charges in the case — post bond this weekend, "Dr. Phil" McGraw's spokeswoman Terri Corigliano said in an e-mail.
"We have helped guests and potential guests in the past when they need financial assistance to come on the show — assisting with clothing allowance, lost wages, accommodations, travel and necessities," Corigliano wrote. "In this case, certain staff members went beyond our guidelines (re the bail being paid).
"These staff members have been spoken to and our policies reiterated. In addition, we have decided not to go forward with the story as our guidelines have been compromised."
The show's producers were in the process of booking guests for a program about the case, Corigliano wrote.
Only two of the teens remained jailed late Saturday night, Polk County Sheriff's Office spokesman Scott Wilder said.
The teens, whose ages range from 14 to 18, face kidnapping and misdemeanor battery charges. Three also face a felony charge of witness tampering. The state attorney's office says all will be tried as adults.
They are accused of participating in a violent beating of another teenager, which was videotaped and has now been viewed widely on national television and the Internet.
A judge on Friday set bails ranging from $30,000 to $37,000 for the teenagers.
McGraw drew criticism earlier this year when he confronted troubled pop star Britney Spears at the UCLA Medical Center during a stay at the facility.
At one point, McGraw had planned an episode of the "Dr. Phil" show about Spears, but quickly abandoned the idea. He has since apologized for discussing his visit publicly — but not for visiting her. - Mikhail101, on 04/14/2008, -3/+2Phuck You Doctor Phil
- ChromaVita, on 04/14/2008, -5/+2I know it's not entirely relevant, but this is easily my favorite Dr Phil clip:

(not a rick roll) I don't agree with what the guy is doing, but his haircut/outfit is hilarious...- Steven8890, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2The Bum Fights guy needs his ass beat.
- Diderotten, on 04/14/2008, -1/+1What the hell is wrong with Dr. Phil? He brought him on the show, showed the clip, and kicked him off the show for nothing. that just proves the guy's point about him exploiting guests. I'm sure this got more attention than a lot of Dr. Phil shows. It's like an advertisement for Bumfights.
- jaydoj, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1and I promise you, that the guy still got paid. If not by Dr. Phil's staff, by the people who bought bum fights dvds.
- JaredXM, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3Okay I know it wasn't actually Dr. Phil that bailed her out. But it's still funny. Wasn't this the girl who said "***** y'all I'd do it again!"?
- kinseyincanada, on 04/14/2008, -5/+7heres what happened someone on the Dr. Phil staff bailed out one of the teenagers so they could go onto the show, then Dr. Phil or someone else higher up found out and said that this action was against their policies and canceled the segment. There is no prof that the actual Dr. Phil was involved in anyway, just some member of his staff.
- Aitese, on 04/14/2008, -2/+7Right...because we ALL have access to $30,000 of our employers money and can spend it without their knowledge. Why, just the other day I got chewed out for accidentally buying myself a car.
- Lyph5, on 04/14/2008, -1/+4Correction: The MEDIA found out and Dr Phil was afraid of the backlash, so he ***** the segment.

- gearhead364, on 04/14/2008, -2/+5was there any respect for him in the first place?
- kalvinb, on 04/14/2008, -6/+4This was a mistake made by the staff. Not Dr. Phil.
Maybe I'm weird but I was taught that it doesn't matter what someone says to you, you don't get to hit them.
It might actually do some good to get these girls and their parents on Dr Phil to get inside their heads and see what is wrong. It's ridiculous how many parents don't teach their kids simple things like "don't hit people." I'd like to know why the parents felt it unnecessary to raise their children to deal with issues verbally.
Of course ideally they would be sitting in prison doing the interview. The staff maybe assumed that the guests should be in studio for the taping like most guests.- str1fe, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2You say that like Dr. Phil's goal is to get inside their heads and see what is wrong.
