Digg Townhall Tonight!
Tune into the live Digg townhall tonight at 5:00pm PST/8:00pm EST.
Details Emerge From San Francisco Zoo Attack
chron.com — Officials speculated that one of the victims may have been dangling a leg or other body part over the 14-foot grotto wall and that Tatiana latched onto the limb and climbed out. Police sources said a footprint had been found on a metal fence, suggesting that someone had climbed it to get closer to the big cats.

- doctechnical, on 12/28/2007, -2/+44Here, hold my beer....
- aliengoods, on 12/28/2007, -1/+33I smell a Darwin award coming.
- smartass007, on 12/29/2007, -0/+2yeah, it's a tie between this kid and the 90 year mom of that astronaut who drove around a school bus and around the rail road guardrail.
- lazyfisherman, on 12/28/2007, -3/+9It's too bad this one wasn't captured on tape.
- Happy_Phantom, on 12/28/2007, -61/+6I don't care if he was dangling his dick over it; that pen should have been dick-proof.
Why do the authorities always try to tar and feather the victims? Newsome, Fong, et all, you're ***** disgraces.- Glugory, on 12/28/2007, -2/+32You obviously haven't been to the San Francisco Zoo. Unless this Tiger has some DNA from Superman in him, there is NO way in ***** he got out just from jumping the gap. Now, if one or more of them had been dangling their legs over the edge, that would give him something to latch onto and use to climb out.
- doctechnical, on 12/28/2007, -2/+22Can I has leg? KTHXBYE!
- totorototoro, on 12/28/2007, -3/+26Newsom and Fong didn't try to tar and feather the victims. Newsom asked for an immediate investigation of the Zoo procedures and safety measures. Fong and the police department said they had no reason to believe the victims taunted the tiger.
The ***** disgraces are people who jump to conclusions and blame others without the facts. - heypetray, on 12/28/2007, -2/+16So you're the ***** that puts up fences along scenic -but dangerous- drives when some dumbass rolls his car.
- luftrofl, on 12/28/2007, -1/+20Words cannot describe how stupid I think you are.
- LetsGoHokies, on 12/28/2007, -1/+13Sounds like natural selection to me.
- threemagic, on 12/28/2007, -1/+16It doesn't matter what was or wasn't proof. It's a Siberian Tiger, I don't care how safe you think you are, why would you irritate it? You can't fault an animal's instinct. You can fault stupid kids who knew better.
I have a feeling those 2 brothers will never tease an animal of that size again. - yojiffyskippy, on 12/28/2007, -1/+9They should have fed the other two idiots to her and put her back in the cage instead of killer her.
- HotWingBias, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4I do think it's really sad that they killed her. They should have just used a tranq and put her back in the cage. I mean, I know there was a lot of confusion but don't zoo's keep those handy?
- shark615, on 12/28/2007, -1/+3They probably didnt have time to call that sort of thing in. Primary focus was to get rid of the threat which unfortunatly meant shooting it
- snoox, on 12/28/2007, -3/+3yea it's a shame that such a rare and beautiful animal died to human stupidity, after living a life in captivity as well
- HotWingBias, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4I do think it's really sad that they killed her. They should have just used a tranq and put her back in the cage. I mean, I know there was a lot of confusion but don't zoo's keep those handy?
- Coffeedemon, on 12/28/2007, -0/+3Some things should just be left to the person who might do something stupid. Tigers are dangerous ... if you have the physical capacity to get over the wall to them you should be assumed to know enough not to do it.
- sgtpppr, on 12/28/2007, -1/+3Morons like happy phantom are why we can't have nice things.
- thismortalshade, on 12/29/2007, -0/+2This is why my peanut butter warns that it may contain peanuts. IF it turns out these kids were antagonizing the tiger AND provided it a means of escape (putting others at risk) then they got off lightly with a lesson that should have been self evident. Tigers are dangerous. Upsetting dangerous things is stupid and may result in your death or dismemberment.
- Mothrog, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1I think they should have a double door to allow tards in but keep the tigers in too. I'd much rather an idiot get mauled to death than let them procreate.
- Happy_Phantom, on 12/29/2007, -2/+1You're all retards. There is no evidence at ll they taunted or temped the tiger. NO EVIDENCE AT ALL.
Just innuendo and ***** from City Hall and SFPD, who are well known for their honesty. /sarc
Have a nice time at the zoo.- sgtpppr, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1Like his shoe being in the pen and blood on the wall?
- Glugory, on 12/28/2007, -2/+32You obviously haven't been to the San Francisco Zoo. Unless this Tiger has some DNA from Superman in him, there is NO way in ***** he got out just from jumping the gap. Now, if one or more of them had been dangling their legs over the edge, that would give him something to latch onto and use to climb out.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 12/28/2007, -0/+95Maybe they should put a warning label on the tiger pen, "Warning: Tiger will eat you if you piss it off"
- jd33, on 12/28/2007, -1/+23Or: "Warning, do not climb this wall unless you enjoy savage slashes to the throat"
- doctechnical, on 12/28/2007, -0/+23I would append to the sign "...and we will sell the footage of your inevitable grisly death in our gift shops."
- snoox, on 12/28/2007, -0/+6I bet there are idiots that would ignore even that sign
- KingGorilla, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Unless you wanted to live forever...in camera footage!
- Amazetbm, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5Even though I find this situation tragic. If it comes out that these kids provoked the tiger in some way or unintentionally helped it ecape, then what? We've allowed people to sue due to their own stupidity so much that anybody with a business or product has to dumb things down to a ridiculous level. Every Zoo I've been to has Warnings about the animals...do they have to spell it out with a list of "dos and do nots" now?
- calon9, on 12/29/2007, -0/+4The sign could've just been: "Warning: Tiger Inside. Duh. If you actually need this sign as a warning, feel free to dangle legs over wall."
- thechr0nic, on 12/28/2007, -2/+84Im going to go ahead and make a darwin award nomination.
If you dangle your legs over a wall that keeps lions from escaping then you got what you deserved /shrug
call me heartless, but what seems evident to me, is that this all could have been prevented had the victims not done things that they shouldnt have done.- doctechnical, on 12/28/2007, -1/+37Nomination seconded. Uncle Chuck has level led his .45 Evolver and done the right thing. Pity the tiger had to be put down for doing it's evolutionary duty.
- catalysis, on 12/28/2007, -23/+3If someone deserved to die for every stupid thing they did, there would be no one left alive. Get over yourselves.
- doctechnical, on 12/28/2007, -0/+26There's a difference between "Damn, I locked my keys in the car" stupid, and "Watch me taunt this tiger with my leg!" stupid. It is the stunning magnitude of the latter that makes this a fine Darwin.
- yojiffyskippy, on 12/28/2007, -1/+8Exactly! And there's the Animal Cruelty factor too. Of course there's no proof that they were taunting the animal but it's almost a George Forman Guarantee that they were. Either that or they looked much more delicious than the 1000's of other zoo visitors that have not been attacked.
- thotpoizn, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5There's also that little detail about them not knowing for sure why the tiger continued to track the two wounded brothers and ignored all the other tasty tourists it was padding past... Hmmm, maybe because it was PISSED at THEM?!? "Go ahead, biotch, pick up another *(&$%@ pine cone now! I'm gonna chew your legs off!"
- pandasonic, on 12/28/2007, -0/+16If someone causes the death of someone else (including animals) through the misuse of their stupidity then yeah, they deserve to die, and then some.
- BrotherMalcolm, on 12/28/2007, -1/+8I think that this is a whole new level of stupid. Death warranted! I forget my wallet, keys, briefcase etc. No malice meant, but IF they actually did torment the tiger - death warranted.
- Thorox, on 12/28/2007, -1/+7Good thing since you just made a stupid post.
- sportbikepilot, on 12/28/2007, -0/+3you say that like it's a bad thing...
- doctechnical, on 12/28/2007, -0/+26There's a difference between "Damn, I locked my keys in the car" stupid, and "Watch me taunt this tiger with my leg!" stupid. It is the stunning magnitude of the latter that makes this a fine Darwin.
- lazyfisherman, on 12/28/2007, -0/+30Was feeling pretty bad about the whole incident but... hell.... if somebody actually dangled their leg into the tiger pen.... kind of like how we might dangle food in front of a house cat... the tiger was just doing what it does naturally and the people were asking to get killed. I've seen housecats do amazing and unbelievable jumps when they really, really want to, I imagine tigers are capable of similar feats.
- pandasonic, on 12/28/2007, -3/+16Thank YOU! I absolutely agree with you thechr0nic. If the police find that the victims were responsible for provoking the animal then they should get the death penalty. Why? Because just because we can use our brains for more things doesn't make us smarter or better than other animals.
***** people. Long live animals. - otaku22, on 12/28/2007, -1/+3Darwin award might go to wrong person. My understanding is that person who died was trying to save one of the brothers. It might be that it was one of them that pissed off the cat.
- chaserm, on 12/28/2007, -46/+12one less Hispanic POS. They taunt the tiger, they deserve what they got.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 12/28/2007, -15/+15I see you have Ron Paul as a fan. Not surprised.
- j.carcinogen, on 12/28/2007, -4/+2What?
- Glugory, on 12/28/2007, -6/+16You're both ***** idiots.
- xister, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Bohica22 is talking about the ***** that uses Ron Paul's name as a username and basically trolls the R. P. posts.
- pandasonic, on 12/28/2007, -3/+3I see what you did there. Your comment is fuct up in a way but I can't really disagree with you dude (and I'm "hispanic", just not a dumbass like most).
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 12/28/2007, -15/+15I see you have Ron Paul as a fan. Not surprised.
- jd33, on 12/28/2007, -3/+51It's only a fleshwound
- molecool, on 12/28/2007, -7/+3Judging by the few diggs you got there only seem to be few Monty Python fans left these days....
- doctechnical, on 12/28/2007, -2/+5More apropos: "So, it'll, uh… it'll just grow back again, will it?"
- Crispin, on 12/28/2007, -3/+2Or it's just been overdone...
- Mononuclear, on 12/28/2007, -3/+5I love Monty Python but the comment is retarded.

- rhabd0mancer, on 12/28/2007, -5/+56It's too bad that the tiger didn't kill all three of those morons.
- broevol, on 12/28/2007, -9/+5what do you have against mormons?....o, wait...nevermind.
- yojiffyskippy, on 12/28/2007, -1/+4All mormons are not morons! .... o, wait... nevermind.
- dagnabbit, on 12/28/2007, -3/+5I saw in one article that the victim may have actually been coming to the aid of his idiot friend. So the one who got killed may not have been responsible for the tiger getting out.
I guess it's all speculation at this point (kind of like what you're doing, wishing death on everyone involved since you apparently know what went down).- robbob, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4I read the same article. It seems fitting he must live with that burden.
- jonnyeh, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Too bad the tiger had to be put down because of these idiot's actions.
- broevol, on 12/28/2007, -9/+5what do you have against mormons?....o, wait...nevermind.
- seraph582, on 12/28/2007, -0/+29Um, it's a ***** *tiger.* It's obviously not kept in an area where it can get out easily.
- harlowsmonkeys, on 12/28/2007, -2/+5Well, that would be true at other zoos, where the wall height actually meets standards.
- oldhick, on 12/28/2007, -3/+4Right, the big book of zoo standards that is readily available at any library.
- harlowsmonkeys, on 12/28/2007, -2/+5Well, that would be true at other zoos, where the wall height actually meets standards.
- chase001, on 12/28/2007, -8/+16Official speculation is not detail. Great journalism, folks!
- oldhick, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4Journalism died a long time ago. Welcome to the Internet.
- chase001, on 12/29/2007, -3/+1Thanks to Herr Murdoch.
- oldhick, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1Rupert Murdoch had nothing to do with the death of journalism. He simply capitalized on its death. As soon as papers and media outlets quit the battle with bloggers and gave up on investigative journalism, it was over. Now an AP writer produces a fluff piece with little or no background and the rest of the world begins their commentary.
- chase001, on 01/01/2008, -1/+1Shockingly enough "liberal" Bill Clinton opened the door wide for Murdoch to begin his media monopoly in the US media.

- SiNN4R, on 12/28/2007, -2/+22How many retards does this have to happen to before people stop doing it?
- BagginsBoy, on 12/28/2007, -0/+10How many retards exist?
- salinemist, on 12/28/2007, -0/+17Hopefully all of them.
- doctechnical, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2I'd say that question pretty much answers itself.
- ilves7, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1well i'm sure if they do it once they'll never do it again
- PopcornDave, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Well there's one less now.
- drmangrum, on 12/28/2007, -0/+22Darwinism in action. It's never a good idea to antagonize an animal that is built for killing. It seems, however, that people just have to go into the woods and poke a bear with a stick...or dangle a tasty leg in front of a tiger.
- don1one, on 12/28/2007, -0/+6Once saw a man wait around until the volunteers left to sneak down and antagonize an elephant seal. Surprise, the seal can move fast than a man despite their fat. They're already pretty aggressive because they're defending a harem.
It got the guy right in the butt, they had to carry him out face down, and they couldn't sew up the wound (they said) because it was an animal bite and they needed to keep it open.- shark615, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5Animals are full of bacteria, sewing it up would mean sealing in all that yummy goodness.
- cambob76, on 12/28/2007, -1/+4Unfortunately, this will have no substantial affect on ridding our gene pool of any amount of 'stupid'. There are far, far too many people who would do the same thing and have done the same thing. Furthermore, human kind has taken it upon itself to protect the more stupid of our species. Hence the warning signs, fences, education, etc... No, I'm afraid that for a long time coming, the stupid will breed and breed again spawning further generations of unfortunate news makers.

- cadmiumpaint, on 12/28/2007, -12/+6Its only a tiger that had previously attacked its handler....not dangerous at all. /sarcasm
- molecool, on 12/28/2007, -0/+19Well buddy - that doesn't make it a 'bad tiger' - it's kind of what tigers do, you know. Wild animals aren't pets - maybe that's why they put the fence up...
- lazyfisherman, on 12/28/2007, -0/+14ALL tigers are dangerous and have the potential to kill / attack / maim their handlers. Like house cats, tigers respond to having meat and treats dangled in front of them.
- Ndiggnation, on 12/28/2007, -0/+3I've read that as far as animal psychology goes, when you cat gets pissed off at you, were it bigger, it would actually rip your head off. They're not playing around just because they're smaller..
I think about that every time my cats swats at me.
- Ndiggnation, on 12/28/2007, -0/+3I've read that as far as animal psychology goes, when you cat gets pissed off at you, were it bigger, it would actually rip your head off. They're not playing around just because they're smaller..
- drmangrum, on 12/28/2007, -0/+16So, which part of 600 pound, 8 foot long, predatory carnivore is supposed to make it safe?
- doctechnical, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2The purr. If it purrs, it can't hurt you, right?
- xister, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1That's right- it's just a big fuzzy-wuzzy shnooggums- *CHOMP*
- PopcornDave, on 12/29/2007, -0/+2I assume you forgot the sarcasm tag there.
Actually a cat's purr has been shown to have healing benefits to the animal so they may purr even if they're hurt to help heal themselves. It's not necessarily an indication of their state of mind or contentment.
- doctechnical, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2The purr. If it purrs, it can't hurt you, right?
- cadmiumpaint, on 12/28/2007, -6/+1i realize that. I was making the point that the zoo should have secured the animal better and not given it the opportunity to escape, especially when it has a history of attacking people. The fence they put up was not enough and now people are dead.
- McMescalero, on 12/28/2007, -0/+9We cannot idiot proof every thing we create or control. The fools who tempted fate are responsible for their actions. Likely their parents didn't think they would have to spell it out to their teenagers that they should not mess with such a creature, because to them it's screamingly obvious. But apparently not. And sub-adult male humanoids are not famous for their judgment to begin with. Some mistakes do cost lives so the real answer to this problem is: teach your children well.
- oldhick, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4Yeah, someones always to blame except the jack asses ***** with the tiger. Commence litigation.
- buckrogers1965, on 12/28/2007, -0/+6Tigers are like ninjas. They flip out and kill people all the time.
- roastedbagel, on 12/28/2007, -1/+57The only sad news out of this is that the tiger had to be put down....friggin assclowns deserved what they got
- HotWingBias, on 12/28/2007, -1/+7I know I really wish they had just used a tranq shot or something of that nature and put her back into her pin. Humanity causes enough death as it is.
- EndersGame, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2The guy that died was no doubt incredibly stupid and reckless, he would have most likely done more stupid things in life that would have caused harm to other people. To put it simply, he was an enormous douche and the tiger made a worthy sacrifice.
- yojiffyskippy, on 12/28/2007, -0/+7File "two of the idiots survived" under the sad news heading.
- farblong, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2It's sad, but that tiger also attacked a keeper in 2005. It ripped the flesh from her arm, and was a danger then. It should have been put in a sanctuary after that incident.
- PopcornDave, on 12/29/2007, -1/+2While I see what you're driving at, it's hard to say without knowing what the keeper was doing at the time. IIRC, the keeper in question was new at the job and may have inadvertently provoked the attack by getting too close or startling the tiger. Have you ever played with a house cat? Dangle a piece of meat or a feather in front of them and see how quickly they go for it. It very well may have been an accidental maneuver on the keepers part last year.
- jonnyeh, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Why is it a wild animal's fault for attacking someone that is provoking them? Heck, they should be expected to attack anything edible!
- KingGorilla, on 12/29/2007, -2/+1I'm pretty sure most tigers would do the same given the chance. I suggest a preemptive strike on tigers
- Chirp08, on 12/28/2007, -13/+9So we refer to zoo animals on a first name basis now?
- McMescalero, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5as opposed to calling her "tiger #1" or "it" as if she were an object?
- yojiffyskippy, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5Yep, kinda like Madonna or Cher.
- BadSenorRon, on 12/28/2007, -6/+60"That tiger didn't go crazy...that tiger went tiger." -Chris Rock

"That tiger didn't go crazy, that tiger went tiger!" - bundwallah, on 12/28/2007, -0/+14Like the old saying goes..."when you play with fire, sometimes you get burned". Screw with a tiger, get mauled. If he dangled his foot/leg over, he most likely gave the tiger a "leg up" as Glugory suggests.
Tigers are not cuddly kitties. They hunt for their food, its instinctual. No amount of caging can suppress that genetic programming.- Bengals1us, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1How about "When you mess with the bull, you get the horns"?
- edrift101, on 12/28/2007, -1/+42Let's see if I got this correctly? A bunch of stupid kids taunt a dangerous animal by throwing rocks and sticks at it... Then one of them dangles his leg or possibly climbs into its habitat... at which point, the tiger escapes from the pen and proceeds to kill one of the boys. Then hunts down the rest of the crew... I would say the boys got what they deserved. The tiger however, did not.
- daxsymbiont, on 12/28/2007, -4/+13so basically you want the termination of stupid people?
- victord66, on 12/28/2007, -0/+12That's a bit extreme. How about a stupidity tax though?
- don1one, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4at least stop them from breeding.
With all of the protections we're going to end up with more stupid people than smart people. Just look at the Survivor audience. - PopcornDave, on 12/29/2007, -0/+2You assume they'd be smart enough to pay it.
- don1one, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4at least stop them from breeding.
- drmangrum, on 12/28/2007, -1/+7if only it was that easy...
- buckrogers1965, on 12/28/2007, -0/+11You say that like it's a bad thing.
- yojiffyskippy, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4Yes and here's the first question on the "Is I Stoopid Test?"
1) Is it fun to taunt wild animals that may eat me?- ilves7, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5well, fun and intelligent are two completely different topics.
- reparsed, on 12/28/2007, -0/+6I support their right to self termination.
- sportbikepilot, on 12/29/2007, -0/+2yes, please...
- victord66, on 12/28/2007, -0/+12That's a bit extreme. How about a stupidity tax though?
- rocketpop, on 12/28/2007, -1/+10I've also read that the police deny a shoe was found in the caged area, but confirm there was a shoeprint on the fence. Others have said that the group was taunting the tigers--police say they have no evidence of that.
But that footprint got up there somehow... Someone was pissing that tiger off. - zenerdiode, on 12/28/2007, -6/+9It was the older Dahwali brotherthat taunted the tiger, supposedly. And the Dahwalis were the ones who survived. When the tiger got out, it immediately attacked the older brother first, and Sousa, instead of running away, tried to get it's attention so it would stop attacking the older brother. That's where he should have been awarded the Darwin award. It was certainly brave of him to try to help the asshat out, but if I were in his shoes, I would have ran first, asked questions later, and LIVED.
Anyways. Older brother = moron, should be charged with negligent homicide.
Sousa = good kid...maybe too good.
SF Zoo = still negligent for ridiculously low walls.
All around, a huge "*****" fest.- bombayterror, on 12/28/2007, -2/+9dude, I have been to the SF zoo a few times. trust me, in my view that moat and wall of the tiger enclosure would be hard to clear without external help. in this case, it turned out to be a retards dangling leg.
- zenerdiode, on 12/28/2007, -3/+4So have I, and I thought the same thing too. But AZA regulation states the wall must be 16 feet high...it's 12 feet. So, yeah, 4 feet short of regulations is pretty ridiculous. Do some ***** reading for chrissakes.
- kamilmarkowicz, on 12/29/2007, -0/+2Yes, but according to the ZOO officials AZA did inspect the ZOO multiple times and found no violations... Also, it's not a requirement, but merely a 'recommended' height.
- buckrogers1965, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2Well, that 4 feet difference between how high it should have been and how high it actually was seemed to be all it needed to get out. 4 more feet and even dangling a leg over wouldn't have been enough of a help to get the tiger over the wall.
- Pinkertinkle, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2You're the retarded one if you think a kid can hang on as a several hundred lb tiger crawled up his leg to get out.

- brombie, on 12/28/2007, -1/+2From what I read on the paper yesterday, the wall is actually exceeding the Federal and State requirement. The wall around Oakland Zoo's Bengal Tigers is actually lower.
- zenerdiode, on 12/28/2007, -2/+3No, it doesn't. It's 12 feet. regulation is 16 feet.

geez...what are you people reading?
- zenerdiode, on 12/28/2007, -2/+3No, it doesn't. It's 12 feet. regulation is 16 feet.
- wheresjim, on 12/28/2007, -1/+1The SF Zoo is a depressing place, and poorly designed. The animals seem miserable there, at least the big ones do, it seems all they do is pace or sleep. They also had a bird kill a handler a few years ago as well.
- snoox, on 12/28/2007, -1/+1yes, it's too close to the beach as well, in the coldest part of San Francisco, I feel bad for the outdoor animals

- TStanNY, on 12/28/2007, -1/+16Officials speculated that one of the victims may have been dangling a leg or other body part over the 14-foot grotto wall and that Tatiana latched onto the limb and climbed out.
How ***** stupid can someone be? - signal15, on 12/28/2007, -1/+12It's too bad there's no surveillance camera footage.

- mal1964, on 12/28/2007, -1/+4If i were to manage a zoo so its safe from attacks like that. I would design exhibits to securely keep animals in and more important keep guest out.
- don1one, on 12/28/2007, -1/+2I did some photography at the Charles Paddock Zoo and believe it or not, a lot of the protections are to keep the animals away and isolated from the public. Seems we humans carry a lot of nasty diseases and the zoo keepers take quarantine very seriously. So if the boys were able to climb in, that's as bad as the animal climbing out.
- yojiffyskippy, on 12/28/2007, -0/+3They should make it easy for guests to get in. That would cut down on the feeding costs which would lower the cost of admission for everyone else that is smart enough not to feed themselves to the animals.
- KingGorilla, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1You'd think a tiger in the exhibit would be reason enough
- mal1964, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1I agree, but companies have to have a warning on plastic bags saying this is not a toy . its not that simple anymore.

"IS THIS TRUE? THE POLICE TOOK AWAY THE TRANQUILIZER GUNS? TESTOSTERONE OVERLOAD MARTIAL LAW IDIOTS. NOT PUBLIC SERVANTS. THEY COULD'VE AT LEAST USED TASERS, STUN GUNS, ETC. BUT HEY, THEY'RE TRIGGER HAPPY WITH ALLEGED PERPS, WHO THEY SHOOT TO KILL WHEN THEY COULD INSTEAD JUST DEBILITATE THEM; SO WHY NOT WITH NON-HUMANS? GODDESS, INFINITE INTELLIGENCE, SAVE US ALL."- McMescalero, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4Holy moonbattery. At the top of her lungs no less. I understand there were zoo keepers with tranq guns looking for the tiger too, but, due to the terrible confluence of circumstances, were simply not where the tiger ended up being found. Why trang guns were not handed to the police, when they arrived, I don't know. I am doubtful that tasers would have kept an animal of her size, temperament and motivation down long enough to be what, cuffed? It is a crushing shame that Tatiana was killed for the stupidity of 3 sub-adult fools.
- Markpdotcom, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2I don't know why you're getting dugg down, that's hilarious! :D
- Coffeedemon, on 12/28/2007, -0/+6A taser on a ***** tiger. Seriously. Just what you need ... rile it up to the point where its unstoppable without a shotgun full of slugs.

- xSEED, on 12/28/2007, -2/+5they deserved it for antagonizing a captured trapped WILD animal. ***** had to shoot it. eat ***** ya'll
- TheTap, on 12/28/2007, -9/+3I'm with Happy Phantom on this one, in spite of the Dugg down status.
That enclosure should be idiot proof, in spite of the "possible' reckless behavior of the three men. Classes of 8 year olds go to zoos and tease animals. That doesn't mean they deserve to get mauled to death. and what if the tiger then went on to kill an innocent bystander - a kid? Are you saying he deserves it just because he picked the same night as a moron who threw pine cones? The zoo has a responsibility to provide safe viewing for everyone. An environment where a Moron (unfounded as of yet) can allow a wild animal to escape is a poorly designed environment.- McMescalero, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5Behave recklessly, without regard for even your own life, and death is an option. That has always been true and always will be true. "Deserve" is not the right word to bring into the discussion. Tatiana did not "deserve" to be held against her will in a fancy-schmancy "enclosure" for our amusement, either. So, get over that. Zoos have a better responsibility: to preserve the safety and well-being of the animals they hold captive. People are supposed to have higher intelligence. When they fail to use it or act against it, then all bets are off. We're all in this together. So, do your part, use your brain and your conscience, and no blood will end up being shed.

This article treats it as a complete afterthought that the guys possibly taunted the animal, but basically says that is irrelevant.

- nju0843, on 12/28/2007, -2/+10Good thing the victims weren't black or the zoo would have had Al Sharpton all over their butts...
- UberC, on 12/28/2007, -1/+5Darwin?
- zenerdiode, on 12/28/2007, -13/+1I honestly can't believe the sheer number of people defending the zoo.
Yeah, they were dumbasses for taunting the tiger.
But the fact is, the zoo wall wasn't built to regulation height. It's 4 feet short. Do some ***** reading people.
***** Racist Ron Paultards- don1one, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1So? If it's true, they still shouldn't have been taunting the tiger. First it's cruel, second it's dumb. How much are you going to protect people who do stupid things.
The Stella Awards are full of people doing dumb things that would have naturally been eliminated from the gene pool years ago. We need natural selection, we need the best of the best. We need people who make that suit look good.
And exactly what is racist about it. And to put a Ron Paul spin on it, yes, everyone should be responsible for their own actions and accept the results.- 89992, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Did you even read the article? "However, police Sgt. Neville Gittens maintained that there was no reason to think that the victims were taunting the tiger."
- don1one, on 01/02/2008, -0/+0Slingshots, late in the evening, bottle of vodka in the car. Nope, no reason at all.
- 89992, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Did you even read the article? "However, police Sgt. Neville Gittens maintained that there was no reason to think that the victims were taunting the tiger."
- TheTap, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1I agree with you. Yes, I understand the Darwin effect but in this case the 'idiot" endangered the lives of every other patron which takes this well past the Darwin Awards. The Zoo has to protect it's patrons from the isolated moron. It is a business and the product/service must be up to standards.
- don1one, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1Yes, but the zoos main 'business' is public education, and boy, were a lot of people educated this week. Up close and personal.
Besides, we're not defending the zoo, just the tiger. Too bad it had to be the fall guy.
- don1one, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1Yes, but the zoos main 'business' is public education, and boy, were a lot of people educated this week. Up close and personal.
- 89992, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Um excuse me, talk about bigotry, you are the one who is guilty. I think the zoo operators are a bunch of cheap bastards and I am voting for Ron Paul. What do you have to say about that.
- don1one, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1So? If it's true, they still shouldn't have been taunting the tiger. First it's cruel, second it's dumb. How much are you going to protect people who do stupid things.

- McMescalero, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1"... if you don't teach your children to respect the predator who doesn't speak human and cannot be "reasoned with", so please, think before you taunt" -- SFO Zoo
- GettinReal, on 12/28/2007, -5/+0This story is a great analogy of America.
America=mutilated kids
Tiger=Foreign Countries
Moral of the story is dont stick your arms where they dont belong.- drmangrum, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2Epic fail poster failed epically.
- buckrogers1965, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5Sounds like they need to also put up a fence tall enough with electric at the top to keep the monkeys out of the tiger cage.
- sstidman, on 12/28/2007, -9/+5This article is old and has already been discredited. It was clarified after this article was written that there was no bloody shoe found within the enclosure. This is a simple case of the enclosure being inadequate to contain the animal.
- Chahrlie5, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5We have retards on the scene, send backup!
- McMescalero, on 12/28/2007, -2/+3I'm curious to know if the two surviving sub-adults, whose last name sounds Indian or Pakistani, are native Americans or immigrants from one of those countries. I wonder only because of the cultural influences. In those countries, tigers are demonized and suffer terrible mistreatment and persecution. This may have contributed to how they would behave toward such a creature. And if they thought that they would be safe no matter how stupid they acted, then they may have taken extra-reckless chances that they otherwise would not. Again, nothing can be made idiot-proof. If someone wants to defeat all reasonable and responsible measures to protect them, then there is absolutely nothing we can do to save them from themselves.
- sgtpppr, on 12/28/2007, -1/+1Uh, no, I think they're mexican.
- Ogopogo, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1pay attention.. he's refering to Kulbir Dhaliwal , the older of the two surviving brothers. Dhaliwal is a typical Punjabi name. Other reports indicate the two brothers were hostile to the police after being rescued. This implies they did not want to answer questions about what they were doing there. It also implies they were probably guilty of doing something they did not want to admit or talk about.

- McMescalero, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1I think leeray is confused. I would more directly call it irony, or even coincidence. And leeray is apparently easier to provoke than a tiger.
