So...where's the dignity in killing 10 innocent people from a distance? - fuzzymuzzy, on 11/11/2009, -11/+237http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/a32x6/re ...
- SiSurfer, on 11/11/2009, -12/+226To all of the "I'm against the death penalty, but I'm fine with it for this *****" posts:
You're all hypocrites.
So the bar for who the state can execute is determined by the amount of media coverage they get? Or can we just agree that it's ok to remove inhuman creatures like this guy from the planet even if MSNBC didn't cover the horrific details of their crimes? - BeyondVision, on 11/16/2009, -0/+146This is one of the quickest death row sentences to be carried out.
- PiRATE7, on 11/11/2009, -15/+131I love how you can mention God on Digg and get buried and harassed, but you can mention hell and get dugg. How can you believe in hell without believing in some form of god?
- justinbaker, on 11/11/2009, -32/+130good riddance you piece of *****, its too damn bad he wasnt in front of a firing squad
- Fabbyfubz, on 11/11/2009, -4/+98SNIPER NO SNIPING!
- gbudavid, on 11/11/2009, -40/+128Went To Hell without saying a word....
- CanUTube, on 11/11/2009, -14/+100I think it's justified
- chililili, on 11/11/2009, -4/+90Mastermind? The man ran around in a tripped out car and sniped people from afar. He was no Moriarty. A little bit resourceful for modding out the car but other than that he was a crazy wacko that just shot random people.
- camilos007, on 11/11/2009, -26/+103Good riddance. I hope you suffer for eternity ***** head for taking the lives of innocent people who's time you cut short.
- einrobstein, on 11/11/2009, -19/+92Execution is letting him off easy. Wouldn't it be a much more onerous punishment to have him rot in jail for the rest of his life?
- TSK05, on 11/11/2009, -6/+70That was pretty quick from shootings to execution. Seems like it usually takes a lot more time.
- Blankford, on 11/11/2009, -1/+55wow
- vap0rz21, on 11/11/2009, -4/+54he's dead now, there will be no raging penises having their way with anything
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/11/2009, -1/+51Considering his execution was scheduled for 9:00 and lethal injection takes about ten minutes to work...
Not really, no. - tdmeth, on 11/11/2009, -2/+51Jack Thompson, is that you?
- jserio, on 11/11/2009, -0/+47Purely coincidental. Lethal injection takes 5-10 minutes but in some cases has lasted for hours. They started at 9 pm and it just happened to take 11 minutes before he finally passed.
- immatellyouwhat, on 11/11/2009, -1/+47I think that's the first time I digg a comment from reddit. :( Really sad.
- Catchpen, on 11/11/2009, -5/+49They should of just let one of the prison guards in the guard tower pick him off from a distance (after telling him it will happen "some day soon.").
- aralls, on 11/11/2009, -0/+43It was very quick. Usually it takes 10+ years on death row:
http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/time-death-row - deathandtaverns, on 11/11/2009, -1/+44due process
- BlindingDawn, on 11/11/2009, -10/+49Slip n Slide all the way down
- jumbalia, on 11/11/2009, -15/+53In most cases I'm against the death penalty, but in cases like this where the killings were indiscriminate and unprovoked, and guilt is known beyond even reasonable doubt, all I can say is good riddance!
- BeyondVision, on 11/16/2009, -0/+38Typically Death row inmates spend over a decade awaiting execution. Some prisoners have been on death row for well over 20 years.
I also found the following interesting Death row inmates characteristics from "Bureau of Justice Statistics: Capital Punishment:"
- Men on death row make up 98.3%, while women make up 1.7%
- The median education level of death row inmates is 11th grade.
- Of death row inmates, 54.8% have never married, 20.6% are divorced or separated, 21.7% are currently married and 3% are widowed.
- 8.4% of inmates had a prior homicide conviction.
- 65.5% had prior felony convictions.
- Among all inmates under sentence of death, half were age 20 to 29 at the time of arrest; 11% were age 19 or younger; and fewer than 1% were age 55 or older.
- The average age at time of arrest was 28 years.
- 33% of all inmates were age 30 to 39, and 59% were age 25 to 44. 1.6% of inmates are under the age of 25, and 1.5% are older than 65.
- 7,115 people have been sentenced to death from 1977 until 2006. - aralls, on 11/11/2009, -0/+38McVeigh was not standard; both of these cases were very high profile and that may have contributed to their speedy demises.
- lnxfi, on 11/11/2009, -2/+39dude... nice name for that question. Anyway, I'd wager most would take instant death over 50 years in prison with no chance of ever being free.
- vap0rz21, on 11/11/2009, -13/+49I'm against the death penalty but I'm not going to cry for this sob.
- KibblesnBitts, on 11/11/2009, -0/+35Actually, he was known for staying at YMCAs across the eastern seaboard....the YMCA was also home to the first ever basketball game.....therefore, it's Basketball's fault.
- jumbalia, on 11/11/2009, -2/+37Life in jail isn't much, but it's still life.
- boshhead, on 11/11/2009, -7/+41Killing is not wrong, it's morally neutral. There are good reasons to kill, and bad reasons to kill. Murder is wrong by (either legal or moral) definition.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/11/2009, -25/+58He went to hell? It's more likely he went to the crematorium and later to the ground.
- Chordonblue, on 11/11/2009, -7/+38You know, most murderers didn't start out from the womb as evil either. I'm sorry, for the lives he took (and took away from), and the fear the entire D.C. community at large suffered through, I have to agree with the Supreme Court and the gov - no mercy here.
Yeah, sometimes life has sucked for me, but I didn't go out and shoot other people up to make me somehow feel better.
F... You John. Rot in Hell... - TheSabre, on 11/11/2009, -9/+397 years? That's not that quick. Timothy McVeigh was executed 6 years after the Oklahoma City bombing. That's pretty standard.
- einrobstein, on 11/11/2009, -6/+36Death.
- boozedrinker, on 11/11/2009, -8/+37Later *****...
- dijkstra22, on 11/11/2009, -0/+26Really well stated argument
- k3rfuffl3, on 11/11/2009, -38/+63No idea... But where's society's killing someone strapped to a table?
- Zionyx, on 11/11/2009, -4/+29Maybe we send ourselves there.
- praisethelard, on 11/11/2009, -5/+29I'd definitely choose prison. I'd have many years of introspection and general learning ahead of me.
- abbott75, on 11/11/2009, -16/+40To be honest, I don't see how it is possible to believe in God and hell together. No loving God would send anyone to a place like 'hell'.
- KraftDinner101, on 11/11/2009, -1/+25Is it weird that 9:11 happens twice a day? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
- bigd063, on 11/11/2009, -0/+24Sorry about the thread hijack, but anyone who hasn't done it yet needs to read about the Port Arthur massacre of 1996. The man behind the killing spree, Martin Bryant, made John Allen Muhammad look like Mother Teresa. At one point during his 35 person murder rampage, he shoots a woman holding her baby, killing them both, and then proceeds to shoot her 6 year old daughter in the face at point blank range. This ***** is still alive.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Arthur_massacre_ ... - diggduggjoe, on 11/11/2009, -1/+24I am against the state having the power to kill someone. Such power can be perverted into a mechanism to destroy opposition to the government.
That said, serial killers do seem to be in a league of their own. You cannot say their behavior was an aberration or a once in a lifetime event, such as many murders are. There is no lack of evidence. These are psychopathic killers which will most definitely kill again, if released. They can never be released, let alone rehabilitated. I can see why people can be okay with it.
Dahmer, Bundy, Gacy, or Muhammad can never be confused with the poor dude caught up in a screwed up 7-11 holdup. I will not claim it is moral to kill them, but they will always generate a most visceral reaction in the public. - jakobrowning, on 11/11/2009, -9/+32Injection by groin would've been a nice ***** you send off.
- itstodd, on 11/11/2009, -20/+42welcome to hell,,, here's you pie.
