Creepy High Voltage Installations in Russia
darkroastedblend.com — The Russian countryside yields sometimes most improbable sights - abandoned artifacts and installations from bizarre military/scientific research, strangely futuristic forms left to rust and decay - to be found by a curious photographer.

- Twist05, on 10/11/2007, -25/+15In Soviet Russia, installations are creeped out by you.
- UnFriendlyFire, on 10/11/2007, -6/+34There has been speculation that the soviets were trying to control the weather. The US has also done such experiments. Called HAARP. (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program)
http://www.haarp.alaska.edu/
There is also speculation that the HAARP experiments caused the hole in the ozone layer, which was falsely blamed on CFCs
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=haarp+ozone+hole&btnG=Search
Some of the pics on the www.darkroastedblend.com site are actually from the HAARP site.- allywilson, on 10/11/2007, -8/+6Do you like X Files?
- moxley, on 10/11/2007, -11/+5Were trying?
Weather control has been a reality for some time now for at least US/Russia. Hurricanes can be created, maginified, dispersed, lessened, and steered.- JohnGalt01, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Yes, I know. It is all a Haliburton based conspiracy.
- esquilax, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4"There is also speculation that the HAARP experiments caused the hole in the ozone layer, which was falsely blamed on CFCs"
what about the one over Australia? - tehpwnrate, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Chemtrails eh? Yeah, as real as HAARP is, that's just ***** about the hole in the ozone layer. Scientists understand very well how the CFCs were causing this problem.
- baramunchies, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20nothing creepy about it, its a work of art.
- Manuelmty, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2 .
- Alegoo92, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25What's creepy? They look cool.
- verstohlen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0The high voltage installations are what's creepy. But they are cool too. They don't have to be mutually exclusive.
- specialK16, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Was thinking the same thing? It looks cool, not creepy.
- etruscan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If I stumbled across this while walking through the woods, I'd be creeped out.

- aclements, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Darn you! Now I have to go find my copy of that game so I can play it again. Like Warcraft, but with Tesla coils :)
- danconia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Damn you guys took the words out of my mouth. 150m arcs? That's absolutely insane. Guess there is some truth to those awesome Soviet tesla coils... I always loved putting a ton of them around my bases anyway.
- therealrico, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5beat me to it!
- laserjobs, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10This could be the energy of the future. Pulse the ionosphere with a resonant frequency and pull out more energy that was put in. The ionosphere is like a big solar collector and reflector with mass amounts of energy collected and stored in it. If we can pull energy out of it then the need for all other energy sources would become obsolete.
- EntangledPhysx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Come again?
- tjfloyd24517, on 10/11/2007, -5/+0WTF?

- tallulahvulture, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10they are beautiful.
also wonderfully taken photographs. - BevansDesign, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Wow, now I know where George Lucas got his inspiration for the last fights in Phantom Menace. I can almost see Obi-Wan and Darth Maul running around on those.
- Cyrusman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It's not that creepy. It's quite mesmerizing, actually.
- phunlee, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10These all look like High Voltage Installations Jack and the gang are gonna find on the island.
- FatherG, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Good to see Tesla was taken seriously /somewhere/. If only it was 50km outside of Chernobyl instead...should be careful what I wish for though...
- Exodin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Command and Conquer Red Alert based on facts confirmed!
Tesla Coils, baby. - Computer_Kid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2It looks like something from Dr Who

- Hetman, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2I hate seeing sights like that. Whatever anyone says about Russia it was a great nation. And being America we needed a great enemy and Russia was there for us. Now all we fight are assholes who like to blow themselfs up.
- mash8591, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Learn to spell. You dumb American.
- tehpwnrate, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3A great nation... where stuff like this happened.
http://www.unitedhumanrights.org/stalin_famine.htm Yay USSR!

- fnordy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Check out the strange installation just south...it's in a circle, and in the middle it looks a great deal like a microwave transmitter horn on a very large scale!
- mrhaines, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Ok seriously, how do people find stuff like this on Google maps...do you just start at one corner of russia and scan?
- eliezerlp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The only probably way is if they recognized the location and happened to know where it was.
- redandgold, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1wow, thats so weird, i was finally fed up and was gonna reply to sirrus saying the same thing lol
it is kinda crazy that there is a google map for every location on digg
- tetfsu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Nicely done Sirrus. I was just doing the same thing... then I though I bet I'm not the only one who looked for this thing, I wonder if someone already found it... you had. Thanks for saving me the trouble!
- fnordy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Check out the strange installation just south...it's in a circle, and in the middle it looks a great deal like a microwave transmitter horn on a very large scale!
- jamespurdy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10we really need a ***** "Weird in Russia" catagory
- ChayD, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Wow, that's....so....so....ZZZZZZZT :) That's the only description I can come up with. Dugg for antiquesque electrostatic coolness, bet the control room
has lots of bakelite gauges with "Imperial Amperes" or something like that on them.- xister, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I think the word you're looking for is: Steampunk. Looks like something out of Girl Genius.
- genexyzration, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1That two installation is one of the contributing factors of global warming. They heat up earths climate.
- fly40r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I think the whole point of the HAARP experiments is to see if a man made source of energy can ionize the f layer of the ionosphere the way sunspots can www.spaceweather.com Doing this for offensive weapons research seems preposterous, although there is some plausible conjecture about over-the-horizon missile jamming / defense.
As for the massive Tesla coils, it is pretty cool. If it had any value, you can bet it would not have been abandoned.- kageki, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You should read more about Tesla then.
There is a pic of the tower on that site that was made by Tesla. Do you know why it was torn down? Tesla's intention was to provide free energy for all. That did not make his sponsor happy nor the entire energy industry.- badfish0116, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Youre right. JP Morgan defunded Nicola because he wanted to run millions of miles of copper power lines. Telsa had free and wireless electricity up and running.
- kageki, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You should read more about Tesla then.
- Gadren, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Why does it seem like the Soviets always had the interesting and cool-looking contraptions?
- digtbk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Thrilling Wonder is the best blog on the internet.
- yourbrokenoven, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1why the hell do they have tesla coils in the middle of the forest?
then again, i remember there is a lot of conspiracy surrounding Nicoli Tesla, and possible government coverup of the ability to use giant tesla coils (like these) as weapons. - ryanadc, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0Most of these look like CG renders Photoshopped onto backgrounds to me...I agree they look fake, although cool nonetheless
- pkonink, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1These don't look like that at all, lol. You might want to get a better viewscreen.
- xister, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I told ya- they're shoops! I know cuz I've seen a good many in my time, and I've done a few myself!
/more sarcasm
- loganhid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1C and C Red alert 2 - voltage army.... good times
- specialK16, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Tesla woot! I love a mad scientist
- mannymix03, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I dunno if the joke should go:
In soviet russia high voltage installations creep you
or
In soviet russia high voltage installs you - kayyham, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0These look pretty obviously CGI to me.
The only somewhat convincing thing is the google maps link someone posted. Probably this is what happened: the author started with the google map, then made the crazy CGI photos to go with it. Then posted his own story to Digg, and posted the comment with the link to the google map to make people think a third party was providing supporting evidence.- Protoss, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What an elaborate scheme to get blog hits....
- badfish0116, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Nicola Tesla was the grestest mind of the 20th century. He had invented wireless electricity that woud be free!!! BUt he was funded by JP Morgan. Morgan wanted to run Millions of miles of copper power lines for profits sake or course. He was also a very strange man. In his diary he says that inventions just come to him in wierd visions type things and he claims that he has cat like reflexes and cannot fall on his back haha. He also says that 3 of his aunts may be vampires because they had long teeth and would often bite his neck. Really its true! As for these Russian contraptions they are very interesting. They look like one of the levels from the old Sonic the Hedgehog on Genesis.
- Hangender, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Oh those are just leftovers from Resistance: Fall of Russia
