- zephyr42, on 05/02/2008, -7/+91Really? Enforcing something that's enforceable leads to a decline in what you're enforcing?
- Barbrady, on 05/02/2008, -7/+57What a surprise, enforcing the laws actually works!
- poidh, on 05/02/2008, -16/+55This is good news. But hey I'm gonna be dugg down anyway cos I'm not being _progressive_ enough. Lol.
- BesideYouInTime, on 05/02/2008, -5/+33You know what would reduce illegal immigration even more? Revoke the business license of anyone caught employing undocumented immigrants. But wait, that would make too much sense.
- Crossmenjeff, on 05/02/2008, -3/+27The minimum wage in mexico city is somewhere around 4 dollars a DAY. if anything, no matter how bad our economy gets, if immigrants make more than 4 dollars a day it's worth coming over.
- SemiSarcastic, on 05/02/2008, -4/+24Yeah no ***** right? Too bad the people in Washington have yet to figure this out.
- inactive, on 05/02/2008, -6/+25Wait, I'm confused. The media usually tells me that cracking down on illegal immigration does not and will not ever work.
- SemiSarcastic, on 05/02/2008, -5/+23There probably needs to be a lot less bureaucracy in the immigration processes, but you can't just let anybody in and we have to prioritize who gets in. I'd rather make it easier for more well education foreigners to enter the country than others.
- PhattyPhattMatt, on 05/02/2008, -17/+33Why don't Mexicans cross the borders in 3's?
Cuz the sign says not TRESpassing! ahahahaha
BOOYA!! - txchica, on 05/03/2008, -0/+14I live on the border in Texas and I've seen a huge increase in the policing of the border; increased manpower, increased aerial surveillance, building of the fence. Correlates well with the increased apprehensions and increased numbers of drug busts. It might have been true in the past that security was lax, but now it's tightening up and according to my BP (Border Patrol) friends it's going to get tighter.
- Conwaysb0718, on 05/02/2008, -4/+16I have no problem with workers being documented/registered, having a basic ability to speak and write the local language (English), and coming here to help themselves but also contribute to our economy. What I do have a problem with are the criminals who come here and commit crimes, use public services and then at worst, get deported only to come back and do it again.
- zephyr42, on 05/02/2008, -2/+13Let me be frank, GW Bush was the Governor of Texas, my state. Everyone who lives in Texas or has been here for at least 2 hours knows there's a problem with the border. Politicians turn a blind eye to tough problems or mistakes. It's pathetic, Washington is reduced to doing exactly what my 5 year old niece does!!
- ferretpants, on 05/02/2008, -3/+13I totally thought they were talking about Crackdown the game when I glanced at the title. I might play too many games...
- zephyr42, on 05/02/2008, -2/+11That's why I said "enforcing something that is enforceable"... you can't enforce drug use entirely, ever. You *can* enforce the border and our sovereignty.
- Zlorp, on 05/02/2008, -12/+21is it going to be called the "War on Immigration"?
- lacronicus, on 05/02/2008, -4/+13I dugg you down for being wrong about being dugg down.
Oh wait... - WTFukowi, on 05/03/2008, -2/+11In AZ, where the crackdown has been the toughest, ILLEGALS are leaving the state in droves. Rents are dropping and wages are rising.
- mikehosek, on 05/02/2008, -6/+14Indians are coming here legally, unlike 99% of Mexicans who run across the boarder without being issued a visa. The last thing the U.S economy needs right now is illegal immigrants.
- poidh, on 05/02/2008, -8/+16Niggaz. DIGG ME THE ***** DOWN!
- drastik21, on 05/02/2008, -2/+9Indians have no choice, they're on the other side of the world. If India was bordering the USA, the majority of illegal immigrant would then be Indian.
- jessenoob, on 05/02/2008, -4/+11No *****, Sherlock. Of course it will lead to a drop.
- inactive, on 05/02/2008, -9/+16Waaaaaaaahhhooooooooooo!!! Every American needs to donate to Michael Savage's defense fund because he's the one to thank for this.
- inactive, on 05/03/2008, -1/+7Jail works too.
- PhattyPhattMatt, on 05/02/2008, -2/+8Reverse psychology only works some times. dugg up...
- Leg0z, on 05/02/2008, -2/+8"I'd rather make it easier for more well education foreigners to enter the country than others"
Rarely is the question asked, is our immigrants learning? - fuzzmeister, on 05/02/2008, -1/+7Going around hunting people down and deporting them is hard to the point of impossibility. Border enforcement, on the other hand, is relatively simple, and that is what this drop can be partially attributed to.
- elmixtli, on 05/02/2008, -2/+8Yeah, and keep the Californians in.
- Conwaysb0718, on 05/02/2008, -3/+9you're kidding.... right?
- jbenson2, on 05/03/2008, -2/+8Gang warfare and murders due to illegals
Hospitals closing down due to illegals
Social Security numbers stolen by illegals
General disregard of laws by illegals - cheezintern, on 05/02/2008, -0/+5What a concept!
- GrodyChamp, on 05/02/2008, -1/+6Good. We have enough problems here as it is right now. Fix Mexico, then get back to us.
- zephyr42, on 05/03/2008, -1/+6It's even worse for farmers on the Texas border are most likely right next to the rio grande... they are fined something like $500/day per piece of trash if they don't clean up the garbage the illegal immigrants leave around.... water bottles and towels and shirts and such.
- jamessavik, on 05/03/2008, -1/+6Why does the Border Patrol have so much trouble finding illegals???
All they have to do is show up at Home Depot at 7am but I guess that's too early for Feds. - inactive, on 05/02/2008, -1/+6Yes, and border enforcement is a form of cracking down on illegal immigration. I didn't say a thing about hunting down and deporting being the answer. It's much easier to keep them out in the first place, rather than letting them slip into the shadows and then try and find them from that point on. However the media has been full of stories about subjects like "we'll never curb the inflow, so we'd better accept it and find ways to make it work". That's what they've pushed on us. Clearly this isn't the case though.
- Conwaysb0718, on 05/02/2008, -0/+5agreed, but that could be a start for most (poor field/construction workers) on attaining legal citizenship, no?
- superkendall, on 05/02/2008, -2/+7I'm all for bottling California up, as long as it means no Californians infesting other states kthk.
- ru1dt, on 05/03/2008, -0/+5take that back!
- inactive, on 05/02/2008, -3/+8It would have to bottom out to hit the level of the peso. So while the value of the dollar has declined, it's still kicking the ***** out of the peso. So the incentive to cross is still there.
FAIL. - zyklon, on 05/02/2008, -1/+6Crackdown? The game? Weird.
- PhattyPhattMatt, on 05/02/2008, -1/+5I didn't know I was your "*****", maybe your "craker" friend... MAYBE...
- superkendall, on 05/02/2008, -2/+6His uncle owns a mine factory.
- keltin, on 05/03/2008, -2/+6The illegals will suck out many more benefits than anything they provide at all. Your citations are nothing but Liberal Crap posed to make it look good.
- BOFH2, on 05/02/2008, -0/+4can I have your stuff?
- inactive, on 05/02/2008, -7/+11bring the troops home and put them on the mexican border. it's the weakest link in the security chain.
- swiftheart, on 05/02/2008, -0/+4A lot of the well paying jobs that illegals got were in construction day-labor. They were working for sub-sub-sub-contractors way down the chain who probably don't have business licenses. It's really just Pa who owns a truck and gets paid in cash.
Essentially there were no middle sized people to take licenses from. Either they were too small to have a license, or they're Wal-Mart and Wal-Mart's not going to lose its business license. - davbmn68, on 05/02/2008, -3/+7Yes..."illegal immigration".
- TRScheel, on 05/02/2008, -1/+5I hope so
- Stevanoski, on 05/03/2008, -0/+4Good riddance.
- zephyr42, on 05/02/2008, -0/+4 /sigh
