- americangenius, on 12/01/2008, -5/+145doesn't surprise me
- cubbiesx, on 12/01/2008, -4/+120I remember watching CNN during the attacks, a reporter was saying something like "...hotel guests have been called by the front desk and have been advised to stay in their rooms and turn off the lights..."
i'm pretty sure the terrorists went door to door after hearing that one. - authorfriendly, on 12/01/2008, -5/+114I have been to the Taj Mahal, it is a stately and impressively beautiful hotel. CNN has the "best sensation seeking team in the business." I hope that CNN starts to add journalistic ethics to their stable of talent.
- kvivek05, on 12/01/2008, -19/+93They deserved to be Sued..
- socialfly, on 12/01/2008, -3/+72Sensationalism in news before regard for human lives - happens all the time.
- Blinker1315, on 12/01/2008, -1/+49I've also been to the Taj Mahal, and authorfriendly is totally correct in his comments. CNN, like most of the media, can wittingly or unwittingly, endanger citizens in pursuit of a story.
- RealmDown, on 12/01/2008, -4/+50Buried for the spam thumbnail.
- Sogui, on 12/01/2008, -7/+48Sounds like a sensationalist story to me, I watched this stuff and CNN was extremely generic at best when it came to information and they aren't stupid enough to divulge specifics.
CNN: We're getting information from the inside, it appears Mrs. Shaw from the UK who is hiding under a dining table in the lobby, no the other one... yea the one left of the door... no you'll have to look harder, yea that one... has some information for us.
FTA:
“We are not aware of the allegedly compromising broadcast, but even in the absence of key details such as when and where, we will continue to check.”
That's CNN's way of calling ***** until someone fronts some actual evidence... given that this would have been broadcast to millions of people around the world, I can't imagine it would be too hard to find. Other details like "How did they know the terrorists were watching CNN? How did they know that CNN leaked their location and that terrorists didn't just happen to patrol downstairs too?"
Or we could just assume everything on the internet is true...
like we always do
every

story - pjosemroy, on 12/01/2008, -1/+37Media should show extreme caution and prudence in such situations. It is really surprising that the sensationalization or folly has happened from an experienced quarter.
- WiretapStudios, on 12/01/2008, -1/+33This reminds me of Geraldo drawing the map in the sand where the troops were...showing the insurgents their location.
- ProfessorSYM, on 12/01/2008, -9/+41And what's the problem with airing such footage?
If more people knew what our men and women in uniform have to actually go through when they get over there, they might vote more responsible and hold their politicians to a higher level of accountability.
Now, Geraldo giving away the positions and attack plans of troops at the beginning of the war is the kind of idiotic thing that shouldn't happen. That ***** can get soldiers killed.
That was broadcast on Fox News, by the way. - oboredone, on 12/01/2008, -2/+31I wonder what their magic Will.I.Am hologram has got to say about this..
- chadsmith729, on 12/01/2008, -1/+28Yep, I was going to say that exact thing. I remember hearing that and said to my wife "That's a pretty stupid thing to say. They will just go door to door and kick in any that are dark."
- ProfessorSYM, on 12/01/2008, -2/+29Yeah, that is definitely much easier than pushing for more responsible journalism.
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -7/+33This is the same debate we had during the Gulf War/Iraq. CNN may put ppl in danger by devulging too much information. News media in general has put too much out there in the past. Look at the Munich massacre where terrorists watched East German news to figure out where the W. German swat teams were.
However, I would be even more careful to limit the media too much. The media is a watch-dog for government and w/o them we get, well, Bush (the media was kept from criticizing him too much during the worst years). - eco57, on 12/01/2008, -6/+32Of course not - you're a genius.
- stronglikedan, on 12/01/2008, -3/+26No proof. No details. All hearsay. I call BS.
- bieber, on 12/01/2008, -1/+22By all means, I'd be pissed as hell if this really happened. But did it? The couple gives no details, and CNN claims it hasn't received a complaint from them, and that they couldn't find any offending footage. I know it's all hearsay at this point, but from what evidence has been presented thus far, it just looks like they're making ***** up. I mean, the fact that they escaped like they did to begin with certainly doesn't lend any credence to the claim that CNN led the terrorists to them. And seriously, how would CNN have outed a single couple? Were they showing a closeup of their window with the subtitle "Couple who appears to have evaded terrorist detection thus far?" Ironically enough, this story itself is looking a lot like needless sensationalism at the moment.
- dsenman, on 12/01/2008, -3/+21Do you have any way to prove that? article link, etc?
- Sogui, on 12/01/2008, -1/+17Well I saw a vision in my dreams where Andersoon Cooper jumped into the lobby and gunned down at least 30 terrorists while rapelling from the ceiling and doing complex acrobatic maneuvers.
He saved at least 5 million people from the nuclear bomb in the lobby that was mere seconds from going off.
Too bad I can't find a source for my statement either. - thcobbs, on 12/01/2008, -0/+16This line made me sick: "CNN has received no complaint from any individual regarding our coverage and their safety."
All I could think was... its hard to complain if you're DEAD. - HankHill00, on 12/01/2008, -2/+18Yeah, it's just like charging people with attempted murder... if they didn't finish the deed, then what's the problem?
- crapuccino, on 12/01/2008, -2/+15Ethics? They don't figure when you're chasing ratings.
- bduddy, on 12/01/2008, -2/+15Does anyone have evidence? The clip? A transcript? Anything other then an attention-seeking article?
I call BS... - sockpuppets, on 12/01/2008, -1/+13If I were a terrorist I'd have pretended to be a pizza delivery man. No one would resist opening the door for free pizza.
- pintomp3, on 12/01/2008, -1/+13money speaks louder than comments on digg.
- crossmr, on 12/01/2008, -0/+11apparently they were watching CNN in their room and it was kind of loud so the terrorists came to investigate. The problem was CNN was So interesting they couldn't turn it down
- simpletonian, on 12/01/2008, -1/+12I remember watching the Indian network CNN-IBN when they were pointing to the locations of policemen around the hotel. How ***** dumb can you be? The govt stepped in and asked them to stop their live-feed till the situation was dealt with. Talk about exposes by the media
- Sogui, on 12/01/2008, -0/+11I think this is like the 3rd reasonable comment so far.
Congratulations. - FredFredrickson, on 12/01/2008, -1/+11Writing in shorthand on Digg makes you look like an idiot. Is it really all that hard to type out "should be?"
- shipwreck58, on 12/01/2008, -1/+11Sadly, just another example of why I, as an American watch the BBC for all of my real news.
- GreatSunJester, on 12/01/2008, -0/+9Well -- they have a better chance of winning a lawsuit than journalists becoming responsible.
- Sogui, on 12/01/2008, -0/+9You mean they called every room in the hotel and somehow the terrorists who were also inside the hotel somehow managed to find out?
If they were calling every room they would find out anyway, and regardless all CNN did was acknowledge that there were people still in their rooms... something the terrorists were also probably very aware of. - thedivinelyevil, on 12/01/2008, -1/+10oh, so you aren't thankful that they opened their mouth, so that the next time something like this happens (god forbid) and you're stuck hiding there somewhere, a news channel thinks twice before airing what could be compromising footage?
- stronglikedan, on 12/01/2008, -3/+11For what? Hearsay?
There is no proof and the details are extremely limited. - bduddy, on 12/01/2008, -0/+8Yeah-I'll try not to criticize the couple, because they were in serious danger, but how, exactly, do they "know" that CNN tipped the terrorists off to their location? Was there a camera in their face? Does anyone have video?
- chronopublish, on 12/01/2008, -1/+8I hate the mainstream media as much as the next guy, but this story is nothing but hearsay. Yet 90% of the people commenting are blindly taking it at face value and firing up the torches and pitchforks. Ridiculous.
- aben9woaha, on 12/01/2008, -12/+19I saw a young couple on a US broadcast network morning program who also mentioned that their hiding place at the Taj was mentioned on TV -- and that people died as a result.
- Zervaman, on 12/02/2008, -0/+7YOU are stupid, padraic2112.
The terrorists used blackberries to monitor news websites.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/ind ... - andrewlotta, on 12/01/2008, -1/+8I think this is terrible, but chances are terrorists would have went door to door anyway. Staying in your rooms and turning off the lights is common sense.

- junkneo, on 12/01/2008, -5/+11CNN does not report NEWS, it sells NEWS. People are the victims.
- kaytrio, on 12/01/2008, -5/+11oxymoron?
- brainflakes, on 12/01/2008, -0/+6I'd like to actually know what CNN said...
- mtyrney, on 12/01/2008, -0/+6Agreed, This is normal for American News.... If you can call it News.
- harris2004, on 12/01/2008, -1/+7Appaently, an Indian TV channel was also broadcasting the locations of Victims trapped and was therefore shjutdown for 24 hours by the Indian government.
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -3/+9The hell is wrong that? This is daily life for the soldiers and so many people in the U.S. are uninformed. The Kent State shootings happened because the media helped break the story of the daily lives of people in Cambodia and Vietnam.
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -1/+6How do you know what their watching?
- firebirdx01, on 12/02/2008, -2/+7Of course- terrorists watch CNN.
- d3lta, on 12/02/2008, -0/+5This is an ignorant and stupid article, the irony of creating sensationalist dribble based on the supposed sensationalist coverage of another news media cooperation is amusing. To term India's elite National Security Guards and Marine Commandos as "Gurkhas" is similar to terming Navy Seals and Marines as "Sioux".
