- Wizened, on 08/14/2008, -0/+1Next will be mandatory xrays to document bone age! I guess this is what happens with it's all about medal counts? I feel sad for the US women, but like one said 'sometimes you have an off day', and they sure did. But can you imagine the pressure. That said, it does seem that is was the US Women's team against the Chinese Children's team. I doubt if there is a training bra among the group! So what's the problem if they are too young? Well, where do you draw the line? What is the problem if she choose to use steroids? And it gets more slippery from there. What do we want OUR Olympics to be. I'd like to hear from some of the athletes from the Cold War error that our adults now. What has our entertainment cost them in the long run. If these athlete are underage, what could it cost them in the long run. Because IF they are and this is allowed, that is where the sport will go.

our = are :-) - justshapes, on 08/14/2008, -0/+1well. i think if they want to win by cheating, let them cheat. china has a big history with honor and i'm sure if they were dishonorable there would be internal issues. i thought it was more sad that the oldest member of the team had begged her parents to come home, but they refused. sure she's great at her sport, but how sad that she's not able to do what she really wants. nbc kept saying wow we're so glad she stayed so we could see her win a gold. lol, ironic that we try to help promote democracy and ability to choose for ourselves the career and by saying they were glad she was still in the sport they are supporting her lack of freedom and inability to escape a life of rigor and turmoil with 14 hr day practices and minimal food and who knows what kind of drugs etc. really...age is the least of their issues. girls are already shunned in china, just let them let their underaged girls compete and the dishonor will eventual take their pride. blahblah blah...
- constguy, on 08/14/2008, -0/+1Simply looking at the chinese girls gymnists is enough to convince most people that once again China is refusing to play by everybody else's rules. I'm not convinced honor is such a big thing in China, as their refusal to acknowledge intellectual, territorial and human rights has shown. Practices like these are why their nation has remained primative for thousands of years while others have developed. Don't expect them to improve until their core values change.
