- sfmman, on 10/12/2007, -32/+90i dugg just because you said reward
- Pile, on 10/12/2007, -4/+53If I ever go missing, I want to be a hot, young, white girl from rich parents.
- revmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+51pretty soon we're gonna need a "Missing Persons" section...
- tsunamisteve, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37We also have had a missing Purdue student for almost two weeks.
Info (pdf): http://purdueexponent.org/interactive/missing_student/wade_steffey.pdf - uberdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Not to be crass, but how and why would someone commit suicide in the truck of their car?
- tabledesk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23@aragami
Uhh...you haven't been on the Internet long. The Kim family? - virtualball, on 10/12/2007, -32/+51I'm sorry, I was on board for Devlin being found and stuff, but recently, since that got to the front page we've had 3-4 more stories just like that one. We re a mainly technological website, we shouldn't be looking for everybody who goes missing :/
- gmprunner, on 10/12/2007, -12/+30...and what makes this person LESS deserving of national coverage than all the other individuals?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Welcome to the internets.
- Dempf, on 10/12/2007, -14/+31Digg me down. Thanks.
- fatdog789, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Because she's rich, mostly. That seems to be the generally accepted criteria for the traditional/web media to decide whether to publicize missing persons reports.
- yevkasem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15it's terrible when anyone commits suicide, but we're all under pressure at universities to succeed. mit has the highest suicide rate because it's one of the premier schools in the world, not because it's one of the premier asian habitats.
she gave up, it's sad, but it sounds like it was her decision, and no one forced it on her :( - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -29/+43I hope they find her alive and OK
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16"grow a sack. someone died"
Actually, thousands died in the time you took to type that, but continue on. You were saying?... - Suspected, on 10/12/2007, -14/+28I don't mean to be rude, but many people go missing everyday. What makes this person more deserving of national coverage than all the other individuals?
- Mysk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Suicide? Because when people kill themselves the first thing that they think of doing is locking the doors to their car and then somehow locking themselves into the trunk of said car.
Especially when they're happy and just passed a major milestone in their lives:
"Her father said that she seemed to enjoy herself and was happy at Stanford.
Stress, he added, "is not an issue." May had just passed demanding qualifying exams, her father said."
..and before managing to lock themselves into the trunk of their car, they manage to magically vanish from a parking lot:
"A police dog had tracked Zhou's scent to the Escondido Village parking lot where she usually parked her car. But the scent ended at the street outside the lot, police said."
At the street no less. Where they can magically disappear into someone else's vehicle.
O.o I call ***** on the suicide idea, personally. Perhaps a bios flash is available for their cops? - laserman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16they found her body
http://stanforddaily.com/article/2007/1/26/bodyOfMissingGradStudentFoundInSantaRosa
sounds like suicide. - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16This comment thread disgusts me.
- MaxPayne3476, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Everyone about your compassion *****, shut the hell up!
How many of you really will think twice about this girl? Read the article, gave your little necessary sigh, then moved on with your life? You don't contribute in any positive other way. You won't make a donation to Suicide Prevention. You still won't talk to that depressed girl your math class because of how others view her. Get the ***** off your pedestal.
Rest in peace, but I'll tell you how I really feel "Way to go, another smart one bites the dust!" Conglomerate summed it up nicely! - ckrimmel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13You may not care but you're still an idiot apparently. It's called compassion, here's a link for all you morons that spend 20+ hours a day surfing the web for useless stories: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compassion
- NoDivision, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10It's funny that a story on here about a missing Purdue student only had about 4 or 5 diggs.
http://www.amw.com/missing_persons/case.cfm?id=42776 - DeflatorMouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"It's not confirmed as a suicide, so speculation is pointless."
Speculation is the cornerstone of Digg's business model. - benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10welcome to my blocklist douchebag
- oldman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10It is another sad tale of modern life and I wish to express my sorrow to her family. However, Diggers rarely get out of the house, hell most rarely open windows, so maybe this isn't the best place to find people to look for the missing?
- AnteChronos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Bush, search party of three. You can eat once you find the Dufranes."
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I had a friend commit suicide recently. Feel how you want about the person who takes their own life, but those who need compassion most are the loved ones who are left behind. And you don't have to care to be respectful to that end.
- kbeeveer46, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Hopefully they can find the Purdue student who disappeared a few weeks ago, too.
- calidrunky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6lucky bastard, I don't even have 1 logo. I have a motto though.... "Don't get kidnapped"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+16Because she's dead.
- kaje, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Because she's rich, mostly. That seems to be the generally accepted criteria for the traditional/web media to decide whether to publicize missing persons reports."
Yup that kid from Missouri who was kidnapped was one wealthy mofo. He had like 4 sets of logos and 10 hot wheels. - Drood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You know, if you're going to post a missing person story on Digg, you might want to make sure the site with the details can withstand tons of Digg traffic. Now NOBODY can help find this person, as the info won't show, meaning posting to Digg could, ultimately, be completely irresponsible, because someone who may have heard the story elsewhere, and been able to help, is now unable to see the information.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Did they ever find that Purdue kid?
- Jakerius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You're a retard. A missing persons section on digg... hasn't the community alone done enough to destroy digg's reputation, but now we're asking for a section for Missing People. I choose to view all the sections on digg, but I know which will be my first section to hide. What a stupid idea.
- nadadingsda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Stanford, qualifying exams, stress "is not an issue.".. I don't know, somehow it's weird to see all these in the same article.
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4web 2.0 logos?
- Jakerius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Fanboy content runs digg, so yeah, I'd say that's about right. Why are we using digg as a PSA? How the ***** are we supposed to help by digging a story, the media is clearly aware of this already.
- meteorash, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah.. hundreds of people die everyday and if we were to feel sad and compassionate for each one of them the world would be a much happier place. Wouldn't it?!
- CoreBurn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I found lots of people to add to my blocklist.
- Kickboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Really crazy for me, cause I go to the school she was found at (Santa Rosa Junior College).
Pretty nuts. - meteorash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I had the exact same question! How could they rule out foul play based on items found in the trunk. All you know it was planted.
- jaynedoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i was there at the place they found her. i was so scared. i hope she didn't kill herself
- grendel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3must have missed the sarcasm...
- elitexero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Santa Rosa Junior College police officers found her car at about 3:30 a.m. today in a parking lot near the school's planetarium."
It took them five days to find her car? WHAT THE *****? - Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2dugg because trailer park residents are burying this story.
- killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5she dead
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wrong reply button. Sorry.
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@ sfacets
No, but it means people should show a little respect when such submissions appear here. This may have been submitted by a family member in a desparate attempt to find their lost girl. And just because some have no personal feelings for the family or girl's situation doesn't mean they have to joke about or belittle the tragedy of it.
If a post like this doesn't pertain to you, then simply move on. It obviously meant enough to others that it made front page. - Jakerius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If she was from a bronx school, it would only be dugg if there were gang shootings, pimps, and cocaine.
- FelixdaaHack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The girl was fould dead: http://www.kusi.com/home/5366941.html
