- smacksaw, on 07/15/2009, -1/+61The way the title reads, I imagined a bunch of poses, like "Obama going 'eeeeey' with his thumbs up like the Fonz" when everything was hunky-dory, and then "Obama as Kevin from Home Alone" when it's the worst threat level. Something like that.
- chrismwood, on 07/15/2009, -1/+41That's exactly what I thought, too, and your images are perfect. It's hard to phrase it any other way now without getting those same pictures. Very funny.
I propose the following threat level representations:
1. Lowest: Obama thumbs up, Fonz style
2. Mid-Low: Obama making the so-so hand gesture with a 'meh' face.
3. Mid: Obama with one eyebrow raised, looking suspicious.
4. Mid-High - Obama hiding behind a couch, only eyes visible.
5. High - Home Alone Obama - smacksaw, on 07/15/2009, -2/+36You can't declare war on an idea and expect to win.
- BREZZZ, on 07/15/2009, -1/+31Might as well. It's never going to be brought down below "elevated", and let's face it, the only time it is going to go up is during an attack where it will do no good.
- Awwzm, on 07/15/2009, -0/+23Who even follows this anymore?
- statik99, on 11/03/2009, -1/+17Main stream media is so picky about what they report on... The "threat level" color-coding isn't needed. I think the networks used it to tune their video signals to look correct.
- FortyCaliber, on 07/15/2009, -0/+16They could just replace it with an orange sign.
- OuijaCat, on 07/16/2009, -1/+14It's a handy tool for the terrorists - Green means GO!
- jthei, on 07/16/2009, -5/+18At least the proposed cure for Global Warming was never "bomb the ***** out of people who look different"
- DrKnowitall, on 07/16/2009, -0/+11Someone should be working on this in Photoshop already.
- AGONYTUESDAY, on 07/16/2009, -2/+11How about a big clock? the closer it gets to midnight, the closer we are to definite danger...
- publiclurker, on 07/15/2009, -4/+12sure you can. I doubt janinco has actually had an idea enter his head in years.
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -2/+9lol jan. Really? The color coded system doesn't really help anything anyway. I mean if a terrorist starts shooting up a mall do you think the victim's first thoughts will be "Damn, I knew I shouldn't have gone out during the elevated threat." I mean seriously, it is the most useless system of all time, it has not once gone below elevated in almost 8 years.
- Suzuka09, on 07/16/2009, -0/+6I was kinda hoping thats what it would be...
- DrKnowitall, on 07/16/2009, -0/+6The red does look a little orange.
- tidu, on 07/16/2009, -0/+6That's the difference between me mounting a gattling gun to my car roof and duct taping my house shut!!
- tamano, on 07/16/2009, -0/+5http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/2438/colorterror. ...
- merky1, on 07/16/2009, -1/+6The problem with the alert levels is not the chart is complicated, its that the level has never changed.
- RogueGenius, on 07/16/2009, -0/+4It was stupid ***** to scare the stupid to begin with. I love the announcements at airport: alert orange/alert green/alert lavander. What do any of them mean? Little if anything. But they are sure good at scaring cowards (read: republicans).
- AlwaysTurning, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3SHOOP
- SpinningHead, on 07/16/2009, -3/+6We have that. Its called the pollution index and it shows why things like childhood asthma have gone through the roof over the past few decades.
- angryfirelord, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3We may as well use the colors white, off-white, and eggshell.
- Barackalypse, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3I leader with a brain wouldn't need a 17 person advisory committee to study the matter and come up with recommendations, which is exactly what is happening.
- AgentMull, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3...So while I consider myself to be a benevolent-ish dictator, I have no choice but to introduce a battery of oppressive security measures. Frisking, cavity searches, this easy to understand color coded crime alert system. And for everyone's safety and security, and to preserve our way of life, I'm taking a drastic step of putting up a security camera. Just one. For safety security and omniscient un-blinking information gathering of everyone's activities.
- redfan, on 07/16/2009, -1/+4I sure will miss the system introduced by the last administration.
http://www.lurkertech.com/threat-chart/threatchart ... - buckrogers1965, on 07/16/2009, -1/+4Citizens. Your terror alert level is mauve. Stay alert for possible threats. Your neighbor is your enemy. That is all.
- yocouchdigga, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3I'm leaving this comment so I can easily check back to see if someone shoops this.
- buckrogers1965, on 07/16/2009, -1/+4We lose more citizens than that on a 3 day weekend attached to a drinking holiday.
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -5/+7"portrayed by some Democrats as a tool for Bush administration political manipulation."
Wouldn't replacing it also be political manipulation?
Well, I can see it now. The Green/Low, Blue/Guarded, Yellow/Elevated, Orange/High, and Red/Severe levels will be replaced by Obama Happy, Obama Wary, Obama On Alert!, Obama Really Scared, and OBAMA MAD!, respectively. - fishunlarge, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2How stupid......
- BotchaMcCoola, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2Stupid. We have had effective security in place since shortly after 911. There have been no serious terrorist crimes since then as proof - neither successful ones nor even attempts. Maybe not as good as the Israelis but damned close.
- Gir53457, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2The new threat level incorporate clearer colors of... vague... Honestly I had something really witty to say but... I forgot.
- sensolock, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2It will be changed to varying degrees of *****.
- HentaiJeff, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2what about black watch plaid and the cover of Russia's album moving pictures?
- rignopolis, on 07/16/2009, -2/+4With Obama in power, we have no need for a terror alert system.
/s - darkciti2, on 07/16/2009, -5/+6Thank god we finally have a leader with a brain. That was the dumbest idea ever.
Hell, I don't even recall hearing the Emergency Broadcast System on 9/11. It's not like a glorified traffic light is going to do anything. - matthewkg, on 07/16/2009, -6/+7Today's terror level is steady at 4 Obamas.
- xrmb, on 07/16/2009, -1/+2so we're getting rid of all colors besides red?
- redfan, on 07/16/2009, -2/+3OH HO YES!! Is funny because Republicans convince everybody Obama will raise all taxes! [/foreign guy teaching sarcasm]
- HentaiJeff, on 07/16/2009, -1/+2not of all time, don't forget the idea of bombing cambodia to get rid of the vietcong. or slavery. or the civil war.
- xrmb, on 07/16/2009, -1/+2And I bet ten cents that you're in one of the lowest one... but still complain. I never understood why some many people complain about tax changes, even when they are not affected at all.
And speaking for myself. I'd mind paying 10% more taxes on a doubled income... I'd still have more money. - LKnight, on 10/25/2009, -0/+1It's always orange. After 8 years of orange does anybody even notice?
- Nekura20x6, on 07/16/2009, -1/+2Am I the only one really hoping for scratch and sniff?
- yocouchdigga, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1WIN.
- BotchaMcCoola, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1I would not want any politicians trying to "fix" our economy. Even China and the USSR gave up that foolishness did they not?
- flaknugget, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1The color yellow will only save you from the Green Lantern Corps.
Terrorism, not so much.
Either way, go buy yourself some duct tape and plastic sheeting, and you can act like nothing has changed. - 4AntiStupid, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1The system is not for public consumption. It was for police, fire, etc to change operating modes. It's the idiot media that tried to make drama out of it that's stupid.
- BotchaMcCoola, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Oh, like they would not? Do you know the population of Saudi Arabia? King Saud University alone has 65,000 students. They are not hillbillies like the Taliban and Iraqi tribesmen.
- mhummel, on 07/16/2009, -1/+2Obviously the system should be replaced with free "peril sensitive" sunglasses for everyone.
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -8/+8Tool of fear and tool of revenue. Hold onto you pocketbooks, the Dems scheme of Cap and Trade will be the biggest, most invasive tax of all times.
