- rv361162, on 05/06/2009, -77/+905Gun control works!!...
...for criminals who really hope you're unarmed when they burst into your home. - RuffRidr, on 05/06/2009, -165/+902Was anybody caught in the crossfire? Did the college student accidentally shoot himself afterwards? Or maybe afterwards he got drunk and shot someone in an argument. Because Paul Helmke and other liberal gun grabbers have told me that college students are too irresponsible to own guns. Surely the gun couldn't have just been used to protect the lives of him and his friends.

Instant Karma. - DreKor, on 05/06/2009, -112/+606I'm a fan of the 2nd Amendment, too, but this bumper sticker machismo is pretty lame. Nobody here pulled that trigger, so nobody here has to carry that weight with them for the rest of their life. The rest of you are just bench-warmers dumping Internet Gatorade on this guy.
- zacharytelschow, on 05/06/2009, -74/+499But surely gun control could have prevented such needless violence! /s
- RonPauls, on 05/06/2009, -96/+517Amazing. If the gun control advocates had their way, these people would be dead.
- Tecton1c, on 05/06/2009, -23/+315Yes, it does say one student was caught in the crossfire and shot several times, unfortunately, but she is expected to fully recover.
Absolutely worth it for the chance to save 10, even if the one had been killed. - InfinitySnatch, on 05/06/2009, -14/+285FTA: “Apparently, his intent was to rape and murder us all,” said student Charles Bailey.
I wonder how they decided who had to rape the dudes. - Landthatilove, on 05/06/2009, -11/+241It did! The student controled his gun quite nicely!
- chriswastaken, on 10/27/2009, -9/+237And I would have gotten away with it too had not have been for those meddling kids!
- LouisCipher777, on 05/06/2009, -54/+274I like my gun control... a la Ted Nugent. Gun control means putting the second bullet hole right next to the first.
- CoD4, on 05/06/2009, -112/+322I like the part where the NRA took over this thread
- repins, on 05/06/2009, -27/+222true but imagine living with the fact that your girlfriend was raped in the other room while you did nothing...
- mogdor, on 05/06/2009, -10/+194"TOM JONES: College Student Shoots, Kills Home Invader"
It's not unusual to be shot, by anyone..... - psdabfm, on 05/06/2009, -51/+232I don't know how many times it must be said, but this is just another example of gun ownership preventing crimes and saving lives (of the people not committing crimes that is). If I could digg this article twice I would.
- apzdsx, on 05/06/2009, -5/+185They were going to rape and murder those people, so excuse me if I don't feel any sympathy for these criminals.
- DanThePainter, on 05/06/2009, -17/+194And the young woman a rape victim.
- yellowfish04, on 05/06/2009, -7/+164mmm...Internet Gatorade..
- BoneStamp, on 05/06/2009, -6/+157The one wearing the pink ski mask volunteered.
- Chahrlie5, on 05/06/2009, -84/+231Outrageous, this redneck hick should have called 911 and waited for help.
Damned gun owning hillbillies, think of the poor intruders! - JustinCase18, on 05/06/2009, -8/+153I think after the gunmen started discussing "having enough bullets" (from the article) the "crossfire" becomes a mute point. These scumbags were already planning to shoot up the students. The "roll up and surrender" strategy would have just made their target practise a little easier.
- nitroburn, on 05/06/2009, -13/+149You would really just do nothing because you didn't have a gun?
- compgeek, on 05/06/2009, -23/+151This is what responsible gun ownership is all about. Knowing when and how to use it. I only take my pistol out to the target range but I also know that I could pull that trigger to protect my loved ones if it came right down to it.
- beervolcano, on 05/06/2009, -19/+133Thanks for turning this into an opportunity to bash "liberal gun grabbers".
I consider myself very liberal, but am all for a person's right to carry. However, I do believe that a responsible owner should take classes in gun safety even if the state does not require them.
I think this is a great story! The only thing that bothers me is how the student was carrying the gun in his backpack. That's not exactly the best place, especially in this situation. - pathouston22, on 05/06/2009, -26/+128Worth it. Criminals don't deserve anything.
- Samurai77, on 05/06/2009, -19/+115Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
For evil to win, good men need do nothing. - Gewn, on 05/06/2009, -10/+103One less criminal. He was intentionally trying to make other people's lives miserable. He deserves what he got.
- DPDish12, on 05/06/2009, -46/+138Who carries a gun in their backpack? Is that what parents pack for their kids instead of lunches now?
There's very little info in the story about the (nearly) victims or if that handgun was even legally registered. The guy who shot the intruders could have been a ***** crack dealer for all we know. Everyone here just jumps to the conclusion that these were 10 innocent kids sitting around playing Scrabble or something. I'm not saying they weren't, but I'm not saying they were either.
The attempted murderer/rapist lived in "the next building".
Uh...can someone say ghetto? - RuffRidr, on 05/06/2009, -12/+95That has been updated since I first read the story. It still isn't clear that it was the student's bullets that struck the female, however.
- sabach, on 05/06/2009, -6/+88Gun control is using both hands when you shoot.
- ClarkWells, on 05/06/2009, -11/+92You can't be serious.... He made his choice. To bad the second guy wasnt shot and killed as well... if the police catch him... he will spend some time in jail, get out... and do the same thing again.
- vsaint, on 05/06/2009, -5/+83moot
- relaxeder, on 05/06/2009, -12/+88The dead guy got what he deserved, either way. Dying on the grass with a bullet in the face is a fitting end for a coward like him. :\
- BillE3, on 05/06/2009, -34/+109That is exactly why I firmly believe that gun control advocates are in support of and are for more crime. Anti gun = Pro crime.
When we have more crime, then they can call for more government help to fight crime. Crime is a good thing for big government advocates. - PhantomRogue, on 05/06/2009, -13/+83Thats because you know quite a few more people than the number of people that have invdaded your home. Simple probability.
- alittleroy101, on 05/06/2009, -32/+101"It's one of those stories that occur every day, yet it gets very little attention from mainstream media."
Every day my ass. - Rivfader, on 05/06/2009, -13/+81Correction one monster life gone.
Humans don't do stuff like this. - Nysul, on 05/06/2009, -10/+75You're right, a female in the process of being raped and the fact that they separated the sexes is just a coincidence.
- jsmith39, on 05/06/2009, -3/+67said crossfire, so either they don't know or she was hit from multiple firearms.
- canUdi9it, on 05/06/2009, -9/+73@gm33: The invaders gave up their rights when they broke in. When self defense is criminalized, the criminals win.
- lolfag93, on 05/06/2009, -20/+84That must have taken some huge, huge balls to stand up and be the only 1 to fight back, kudos...
- JustinCase18, on 05/06/2009, -4/+67Uh, they were counting bullets for the men, I don't think he'd have to "live" with his girlfriend got raped while he did nothing.
The beauty of the gun is that it allows women, the small, the elderly, etc. an equal chance to defend themselves. He could have been a "computer geek" with a broken arm, but he'd still be able to defend himself and his friends. - StueyPidass, on 05/06/2009, -11/+72The story does sound fake....it sounds like a drug deal gone awry. No one carry gun in their bagpacks to a party. Criminals dont just break in a house just to rape and kill. They usually go in for the money, killing is when they panic because the owners are home.
- ljoreilly, on 05/06/2009, -4/+64Yeah, It sucks that the scumbag criminals forced this guy into a situation where he will have to live with killing someone. On the upside, the guy will always have 10 friends that own him their lives.
- daimposter, on 05/06/2009, -1/+57and his shirt unbuttoned down to mid chest
- toekneebullard, on 05/06/2009, -6/+58I would just like to say that I'd volunteer to get shot several times if I knew it'd save ten of my friends and a woman from getting raped.
/but no one get any ideas. - SomeRandomGuy, on 05/06/2009, -4/+56Yeah, seriously, is it just me, or did that story sound EXACTLY like Michael Bay would have written it?
Suspicious parts:
"'Apparently, his intent was to rape and murder us all,' said student Charles Bailey."
Really? Even you, Charles? 2 rapists for a party of 10 people? I don't think, outside of third world countries, I've ever heard a story of more than 2 women raped. You just don't stick around to screw 10 people...of both genders.
"Bailey said the gunmen started counting bullets. 'The other guy asked how many (bullets) he had. He said he had enough,' said Bailey."
Really? He had to count to see if he had 10 bullets? Between two guns. Riiiiiiight. I'm not buying that.
"'Apparently the guy was getting ready to rape his girlfriend. So he told the girls to get down and he started shooting. The guy jumped out of the window,' said Bailey."
So, in a theoretical rape/murder, if you are the guy who gets shot at guarding the men you don't yell out to your friend that they're shooting at you?
If you're the guy in the bedroom you don't hear the gunshots? You don't grab the girl that you're "about to rape" and are right next to, to use as a hostage? You allow them to "get down" so that this other guy with a gun can shoot you?
"'And I heard someone say, "Someone help me. Call the police. Somebody call the police,"' said a neighbor.
The neighbor said she believes it was Lavant, who was found dead near his apartment, only one building away."
You're a guy who's been shot. You don't say "Call 911, I need a doctor"? You say, "Call the police"? Twice? Not once a request for medical aid?
"One female student was shot several times during the crossfire. She is expected to make a full recovery."
What crossfire? Neither of the masked intruders is ever mentioned as firing a shot.
This story has more holes in it than that poor girl. While I'm totally in favor of having handgun in this situation, this story is absolutely dripping with cover-up. They're probably trying to protect the guy who accidentally shot the girl, but I am extremely doubtful that this is anywhere close to what transpired. -
