- mcoulter876, on 06/15/2009, -3/+51"These are not problems." - Ahmadinejad
Then what exactly do you call this, you sick twisted *****? - the11ave, on 06/15/2009, -4/+29Republimorons like you never understand. People are trying to peacefully change things. They voted like every other civilized people do. The government rigged the election and people want their right. They rallied in the streets, peacefully. Gunmen are radicalizing the atmosphere. Don't you fcuking understand?
- maz2331, on 06/15/2009, -1/+23Ahmadinejad probably considers it an opportunity to slaughter his opposition's supporters.
- pathouston22, on 06/15/2009, -6/+27What protests? There are no protests in Iran. Iran the most stable country in the world!
- ProfessorSYM, on 06/15/2009, -2/+21Who are these "diggberals" (***** stupid name, BTW) who have been singing the praises of living in Iran to you?
And please provide the links to more than 5 posts in which someone on Digg said living in Iran is better than living in America. If you can't, then STFU. - mitikomon, on 06/15/2009, -2/+19they killed at least five students in Tehran University Dorm last night.
Basij had fired at protester in Azadi Sq.(Freedom Sq.), at least 15 were killed. http://twitter.com/SadeqEn/status/2179956286

/s - Ryan32, on 06/15/2009, -9/+22This title sucks *****. I saw no "Clash" between Protesters and Police. I saw some burning ***** on the street, and a bunch of guys standing around yelling.
Buried. - kingofinternet, on 06/15/2009, -2/+15the paramilitary thugs or riot police have shot live rounds into the crowds. good luck to the people of iran.
democracy seems to demand sacrifice and bloodshed. - sockpuppets, on 06/15/2009, -2/+13I'm glad we all elected you spokesperson.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -0/+10I seriously doubt anyone ever said that. I will say I wish the people of Iran the best, and hope they can change the government with out too much violence.
- jetboyterp, on 06/15/2009, -3/+11And the UN will send them a strongly-worded letter.
- kingmanic, on 06/15/2009, -0/+8Social Liberals would not sing the praises of ultra socially conservative Iran. Social conservatives would likely enjoy the theocracy a lot more as social conservatives want the majority of the same ultra conservative policies.
for instance:
-Religion is the dominant political force
-Homosexual have no rights
-Religious and ethnic minorities are persecuted
-Strict control on immigration
-Evolution isn't taught
-Strict censoring for pornography
-Religious edicts enforced as law
Switch the religion and it would be a social conservatives wet dream. - aron1185, on 06/15/2009, -0/+7Its pretty bad when we have to pick the lesser of evils anymore.
If we actually put the right people on the ballot in the first place we wouldn't have the problems we do. - omega09, on 06/15/2009, -0/+7A better video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSECAvBTanQ

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8101098.stm - MWeather, on 06/15/2009, -1/+6Uh, how do you figure Gore would have invaded Iraq? It's not like Iraq did anything to provoke a change in our policy towards it. It was even more open to inspectors this time around.
- spunker202, on 06/15/2009, -0/+5Wether this election was fair or not, this proves that political unstability has reached Iran.
And from what i've seen, most of the Ahmadinejad supporters are adults, male, 30+
whereas the opposition leader is supported by youngs under 30, a large amount of women ( from what i've seen in the crowds) and not all seem to be religious extremists. ( In a cnn message, some protesters claimed that their university was attacked by Revolution keeper guards, this shows that the defeated candidate has young students support on his side)
So this election is more than a test for Iran, it's the front of a social/political break between the older conservative part of the population and the younger more often religous moderate part of this country.
But in a way, the commands of the country doesn't lie within the hands of the elected president. ( let it be Ahmadinejad or anyone else). The ones who steer are the mollahs and other religous leader.
It's far more complicated than one might think. Especially for most of the westeners. - trentrezn0r, on 06/15/2009, -1/+6Being civilized doesn't mean that governments don't need to be overthrown from time to time. Governments periodically need to be shown examples of what to expect when they get out of line.
- brinewr, on 06/15/2009, -1/+6Take your country back, Iranians!!!
- pathouston22, on 06/15/2009, -0/+4Watch Ahmad have to get on the roof of his vehicle to get away from the crowd

Around 1:15 in. - inactive, on 06/15/2009, -0/+4*whispers* US Presidents are limited to 2 terms (8 years) and they cannot run again.
- kingmanic, on 06/15/2009, -0/+4thcobbs: Point to any one of those things that are not desired by American socially conservatives *****.
Libertarians are not socially conservative. Libertarians would be fiscally conservative and socially liberal; wanting a smaller foot print for the government and libre for all to do as they wish.
Socially conservatives means more than the literal definition of those words and often the things they stand for contradict the literal meaning of the word just as "liberal" often means less freedom for people. Are you naive enough to think the word a group labels themselves would completely and accurately depict them? What are the platforms of social conservatives? Who are noted socially conservatives and what are their opinions? - bromac, on 06/15/2009, -1/+5Your nation was founded and held together through a "civil war" with these same civilized tactics.
It is also not civil to torture. I'm tired of Americans hiding behind their government. Either reign them in, or you are under the same boot as everyone else. I'm not defending the current Iranian regime, but drop the holier-than-thou attitude. It's that exact arrogance that draws the disdain of the world on American foreign policy. - bromac, on 06/15/2009, -1/+5I've said it before, and I'll say it again.
The internet is a global network. A video posted on YouTube isn't there solely for the amusement of Americans. The rest of the world may be interested. - inigomntoya, on 06/15/2009, -1/+5I too was hoping to see a true 'clash' like something from 300.
With guys walking around with their faces covered up, loud noises, and a burning pile of whatever in the middle of the street - it looked more like a typical day in Iran... - NeuralNetwork, on 06/15/2009, -1/+5Iranians are civilized. I have many Iranian friends, they are some of the nicest people you will meet.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -1/+5welcome to this digg cod4, where you have lowered the collective intelligence by half.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3lame video tho.
- thedogfatherx, on 06/15/2009, -1/+4I thought Ahmadinejad said they were peaceful protests? What a big smelly pile of ***** this guy is. He sure thinks he can insult everyone's intelligence. Why does he think he's so smart?
- goes211, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3People want to be free. That is true in the middle east but also true right here in the USA. Lets hope that someday we can ALL be free of oppression without going through violent upheavals, but I doubt it.
- macmcraeart, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3yeah - they don't even have Clash lite (Big Audio Dynamite).
- kingmanic, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3"I am committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president."
-2003 Walden O'Dell CEO Diebold, The company that makes the voting machines.
http://www.boingboing.net/2004/11/03/quote-of-the- ...
"But that's not the only knock against the company. A lawsuit was filed against Diebold last year in California alleging that software flaws makes the voting machines vulnerable to hacker attacks and computer viruses. There are also concerns about the lack of a verifiable paper trail with electronic voting. "
http://money.cnn.com/2004/08/30/technology/electio ...
"If you were unconvinced the last time we covered this, of just how shoddy these Diebold voting machines are, here's another arrow in our quiver: Princeton University researchers have taken apart a Diebold machine, examined it from every angle, written a new paper on its flaws and have come to the following conclusions: 1) Malicious code "can steal votes with little if any risk of detection." 2) Said code can be installed in one minute or less. 3) The Dieblod machines run Windows CE 3.0 -- so, they're susceptible to viruses. 4) Some problems would require the entire replacing of hardware, yet another security risk."
http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/14/researchers-sho ... - TheSwashbuckler, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3He's always in denial:
1. These aren't problems
2. There was no Holocaust
3. Iran has no homosexuals - quaxon, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3I have a lot of family in Tehran right now and when they called last night they said that a lot of the Basij/military guards were brought in from Lebanon to deal with the situation. I don't see any news reporting of this but if it were true that would explain the sudden surge of violence as all of those in the military are there by law and many agree with the protesters rather than the ruling gov.
My grandpa over there just had a heart attack as well and my dad is flying out there tonight, i would have gone with him but he is worried i wouldn't be able to leave or something bad would happen. I am scheduled to go there in July though so hopefully things have calmed down by then or better yet there is a whole new government! - plhofmei, on 06/15/2009, -2/+5Likewise, I saw nothing resembling a clash, no guns, no cops with shields, no one being hauled off. I'm not even sure I saw any police forces?
I also buried the article. - rgranger, on 06/15/2009, -4/+6I like how you worded this. Our elections are relatively fraud free; however, its not inconceivable that individuals tamper with results. Our election system and most of the people working it do a good job, but of course there's fraud like with the Kennedy election and even fraud today such as the case with ACORN.
If the people voted for Bush or Gore or whoever, that's who should be in office, regardless of who the better candidate would have been. That's how democracy works. - pathouston22, on 06/15/2009, -5/+7Because our elections arn't rigged (for the most part).
- daPhoenix, on 06/15/2009, -2/+4Like the system worked in Florida?
- themastersb, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2Guess I should have more knowledge on US politics before I try to troll about it.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2yeah def buried for ***** statement, and for voting for bush twice.
fool me once shame on you, fool me twice ..... you ain't gonna fool me again! - quaxon, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2the only other new i can find on lebanese forces in Iran is http://twitter.com/oli2be/statuses/2183785628
this seems like it should be a huge story, using foreign forces to quell protests is very bad form - sleestakslayer, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Yup. Looked like another day in Columbus after a Buckeyes football game.
- ProfessorSYM, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2I also have Iranian friends, and they live here. And yes they are civilized. And yes there are civilized Iranians living in Iran.
Violent protest isn't civilized behavior, however, and yes there have been some groups in the USA that protest violently but again those few aren't civilized.
And to the jackasses trying to invoke the founding fathers, the Civil War and getting hardons for a similar violent uprising in America: war is not civilized.
So go ***** yourselves, peacefully. - burningmanstan, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Channel 4 report and video on the shooting outside a Basij compound.
http://www.channel4.com/news/article.jsp?id=321345 ... - bytor4232fb, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1democracy always demands sacrifice and bloodshed.
- rxbudian, on 06/15/2009, -2/+3If you've never lived there you shouldn't judge. In Indonesia people died during the campaign and it wasn't even in the newpapers.
Sometimes of the time the losing party "exposed" violent protests hoping to use you and other established democratic softies who have the privilege of nonviolent elections to put pressure on the winner. They can tell you lies and you eat them all up as truth.
1. You don't know the real numbers. The winner might actually have won
2. The losers are usually the instigators of the violence, and you blame the winners for it
3. The losers can claim anything because they have nothing left to lose, so if you're not really on the ground and seeing it, you can't tell the truths from the lies.
So you can question the results and denounce the violence all you want. But don't judge the winners to be evil or losers to be good, because you don't know what the reality is and there's probably a lot of information that is being manipulated before you get it.
A good example is Iraq. The only truth in it is that Saddam's regime is brutal, everything else were manipulated by the white house, and iraqi dissidents all whom already have vested interests to see the regime brought down.
The truth is not easy to find even on the ground much less thousands of miles away. -
