- jontalisman, on 03/26/2008, -14/+91Come to America, girls! Wal-Mart will pay you almost as much per week and the only thing that will hurt you is your sense of self-dignity.
- nicepants, on 03/26/2008, -4/+58Slaves? They were paid 100 euros per week. In America we would have paid them more and made it into a game show, probably airing on Fox.
- skamper, on 03/26/2008, -10/+62But were they hot?
- anyone4apint, on 03/26/2008, -11/+54Piranhas = Awesome
19 Year Old Girls = Awesome
Dodgy Circus Acts = Awesome
Whats not to like?!? - inajeep, on 03/26/2008, -2/+33There is a stay in school ad made to order.
- hollywoodphony, on 03/26/2008, -14/+37Usually circuses are totally lame, but that one sounds great!
- sonofblacula, on 03/26/2008, -5/+25They wouldn't make the hot girls get in the piranha tank.
- IphtashuFitz, on 03/26/2008, -3/+20Throw the circus owners into the piranha tank and throw the snakes in after them.
- djbon2112, on 03/26/2008, -5/+22Hey, I don't know what you're talking about: I know students (19) making ~$300 a week full time at Wal-Mart in my hometown, which is more than I make at Home Depot. It's not a bad place to work (at least in Canada); the perception of it as a minimum-wage-only place is overblown (at least here in Canada).
- Kurlumbenus, on 03/26/2008, -3/+19That's because the piranhas leave no witnesses.
- mriparian, on 03/26/2008, -6/+22What was so virtual about the slavery? Did this all happen on Second Life?
- Sikarian, on 03/26/2008, -3/+19Well, they WERE women after all. One week a month would have been completely dangerous for them.
- aladrin, on 03/26/2008, -1/+15http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/it ...
There's your documented cases.
Rare != never. - nekochan, on 03/26/2008, -0/+13didn't they do the piranha thing on Fear Factor once?
- djbon2112, on 03/26/2008, -4/+17*attacking healthy humans
Unless you're gushing blood, he's right. Piranhas aren't ravenous wolves: they only attack when they smell blood in the water, and most people aren't bleeding all the time. - inactive, on 03/26/2008, -0/+12The catch in America is that we get 20 people to do it and only the one that does it best gets paid 10 times the amount, then put it on TV it and call it a "game show".
- doctechnical, on 03/26/2008, -0/+12OK, here's a better description of what was going on, the Reuters story seemed a little light on the details (sordid et al):
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/mar/26/italy? ... - MRintheKeys, on 03/26/2008, -2/+14Or perhaps mentally evill???
- doctechnical, on 03/26/2008, -2/+14Um, I missed where the "force" works into this. If they didn't perform were they whipped? If they really were forced, why were they also being paid?
- inactive, on 03/26/2008, -0/+11Stuff like singing the Wal-mart song?
- TheSillyOne60, on 03/26/2008, -3/+14It did happen. But there are thousands of girls slaved and forced to "sell their bodies" who risk much more than having a bath with piranhas. It hit the newspaers just for the esoticism of their work.
- Tarnum, on 03/26/2008, -2/+12Thank you for spending 10 min. to write this. I know it's hard to type with 1 finger.
- Pfkninenines, on 03/26/2008, -0/+10It's f**king Italy. Notice how I didn't say "The United States"
- nekochan, on 03/26/2008, -1/+11now THAT'S a circus act.
- NoCt1, on 03/26/2008, -2/+12They dont attack just for blood. They attack when there is a lot of movement. Usually to them it means a cow fell in.. Its time to ***** it up. So if you go prancing through the tank pretty sure they will attack you. If you just slowly get in there then your all good.
- blackprizm, on 03/26/2008, -3/+12You're gonna be-a big stars! - Now get in-a da damn tank.-
- drwatson, on 03/26/2008, -0/+9That would be a completely incorrect statement, the primary diet of Piranha is meat (fish, worms, insects, or fins when they are young), it is only when they are starved that they will eat plants or berries that fall in the water.
- djbon2112, on 03/26/2008, -2/+11Or perhaps just evil.
- EelfinnTy, on 03/26/2008, -4/+13How did they survive this job longer than a month?
- blinkatron, on 03/26/2008, -1/+9pics or it didn't happen
- Ninnux, on 03/26/2008, -0/+8I had pet piranhas as an undergrad. I routinely put my hands in the aquarium for cleaning and such. Piranhas are like any other aggressive predator. Just mind their space and everything is cool.
- Monarch818, on 03/26/2008, -1/+9Tell my stepdad that when a piranha took a chunk out of his thumb when he was scooping a dead goldfish out of the tank. Yes, they are usually docile, but they will attack when hungry or a major surprising disturbance. But generally I used to chase them around the tank with my hand, and our piranhas were appx 1lb each. Had 2 of them.
- inactive, on 03/26/2008, -1/+9Unless they have frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!
- Spuy767, on 03/26/2008, -1/+9Agreed, piranhas will actually nudge you first before they bite, and if you show any signd of being able to put up a reasonable fight, they don't ***** with you. Like al wild animals, piranhas are looking out for number one.
- djbon2112, on 03/26/2008, -2/+10I just realized I said "at least in Canada" in two consecutive sentences. And the "19" is my friend's age. Forgive me, it's still much too early!
- Harabeck, on 03/26/2008, -1/+9I worked at a US walmart last summer. It really wasnt so bad. The most annoying thing is how they try to coddle you with meetings and educational training things you have to have so much of. I actually preferred working to that stuff.
- designer, on 03/26/2008, -0/+7Listen, here on Digg Wal-Mart is evil. Coming in Third on the evil scale just behind Dick Cheney.
- kmb1794, on 03/26/2008, -4/+11When you say "sisters" I say "pics"
- jabbaloca, on 03/26/2008, -0/+7Iron my shirt?
- djbon2112, on 03/26/2008, -1/+8Dude, for a 19 year old student in Suburbia, $300 a week is good money.
- surKaz, on 03/26/2008, -1/+7Snake-Piranha Fight?
- browny1978, on 03/26/2008, -1/+7I bet once a month things were a bit scary when they swam in the tank
- MajorMansteak, on 03/26/2008, -2/+8Carnies will be Carnies
- DteK, on 03/26/2008, -1/+7now thats an establishment going the extra mile to give its patrons more bang for the buck

Here: What Steve-O typically does on an episode of WildBoyz. - masterofshadows, on 03/26/2008, -3/+9virtual != digital
in this context virtual is akin to approximately or nearly. - TimDigg, on 03/26/2008, -0/+5ohh...almost did't catch it "evILL"
nice - Pegritz, on 03/26/2008, -0/+5Piranhas are not like sharks: they DO NOT attack living animals that are substantially bigger than they are. Amazonian piranhas can give a person a painful nip, but large schools of them will avoid anything bigger than them if it's still flailing or moving around in the water--and the reason is obvious: individual piranhas are smaller than the palm of your hand. Piranhas typically feed on other fish, small prey that fall into the water; the only large animals they will eat are already dead when the piranhas start on them--much like a T-Rex, they are primarily predators, but scavenge whenever necessary as well.
That girl wasn't in any danger whatsoever. - DreKor, on 03/26/2008, -3/+8if I'm reading this right, the women were each making ~$155 per week. Individually, this would put them below the US poverty line. But, if taken together as a family, they would be above it. I like that you can live above the poverty line and still be a slave, it makes me all warm and fuzzy for America. (yes, I know this happened in Italy)
- imikedaman, on 03/26/2008, -1/+6Are there many New Yorks in Canada?
