- meloon, on 11/05/2009, -1/+17Boot camps for Internet addict... Where is this world going? Come on guys, they're kids! This is something parents actually can control. They're not doing drugs or anything. If you asked me, the whole camp, and all of them, should be banned. You don't lock-up someone because he watches TV too much, or because he reads too much?????
- KingGorilla, on 11/05/2009, -0/+13Isn't internet addiction already solitary confinement?
- SemiSarcastic, on 11/05/2009, -0/+8Well we do lock up people who read too much so...
- subscriber, on 11/05/2009, -2/+9Yeah, don't let your government tell you who you can and can't marry (gay marriage), or whether or not you can pull the plug on a terminally ill patient (Terry Schiavo), or which religion is the right one (ten commandments on courthouse lawn) !
- pxmm, on 11/05/2009, -1/+8I remember seeing a documentary about US boot camps for "troubled teens". Unsurprisingly their effect was similar http://www.nytimes.com/2001/07/15/us/states-presse ...
- Snoogs, on 11/05/2009, -0/+6Ya know, even in solitary, they are gonna masturbate relentlessly anyway.
- borez, on 11/05/2009, -0/+5The internet is nasty thankless place... personally I never go near it.
- dragoon142, on 11/05/2009, -1/+5Do you realize that the article says that the Chinese government BANNED this practice? Not invented it. They SOLVED a problem, they didn't create it. This is Government in China telling Business what to do. One thing I find amazing is the American ability to read something and two seconds later explain how it means the exact opposite of what was intended. The government of China stopping business from abusing its clients is now evidence that the Chinese government is responsible for beatings and gulags.
- SplashBot, on 11/25/2009, -0/+4You pay now! You pay now!
- BinkyStuttocks, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3"Like being completely isolated from the outside world? Well GUESS WHAT? We're gonna completely isolate you from the outside world! SEE HOW MUCH YOU LIKE IT THEN!?"
- Georgy, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2Im not sure how ppl get addicted to the internet, After i check digg, couple news sites, facebook and rub one off. I find that there's nothing left to do on the internet
- adamsteinberg, on 11/05/2009, -4/+6Oh please, the state didn't send them, their parents did. The red scare is over, get over it.
- Barackalypse, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2Punishment for Internet addicts isn't solitary confinement, it would be forced communal living.
- cor315, on 11/05/2009, -1/+2When will people learn. You're suppose to pretend you're mad when someone punishes you and it works in your favor.
There was probably that one guy that acted all happy when they gave him solitary confinement. Then they realized he was ok with it and banned it. - Ascadian, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1Funny so many Americans oppose this, when many of the same idiocies are happening right here on home ground. Americans are getting so lazy its easier for them to just hand over all their rights and let the government solve their problems and pay their bills, and so ignorant of their rights they call it a conspiracy theory when those who are educated try to fight to hold on to those rights.
- tgc1, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Just wait until the Ghost gets into the Shell. See how those in power laugh then.
- Clerg, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1God forbid the parents take some responsibility for their kids. Turn off the computer, sell it, get rid of your internet service... No, lets have The State solve our problem for us...But, the idea that kids are being put into solitary and beaten because they like the web too much is even more mind-bending..what kind of person can beat and/or shock a kid because he likes the internet too much? WTF is wrong with these people?! This turns into a circular argument that just makes my brain hurt. Think I'll go spend some time at "The People of Wal-Mart" to remind myself how normal we are.
- lostngone, on 11/05/2009, -2/+2Did they have access to the internet when they were in solitary confinement? If so, I really don't see that as must of a punishment.
- digggggggggg, on 11/05/2009, -2/+2The fact that these places even exist doesn't come as a surprise.
Put together the chinese mentality that children should be worked like dogs with the fact that parents are coerced to have very few children, and you can see why a lot of folks in china are willing to resort to extreme measures for "conditions" like these.
Or, maybe they should do we do and just medicate the hell out of our kids. Seems to work, right? - PabstyLoudmouth, on 11/05/2009, -1/+0Wouldn't it be a better idea to unplug the fu**ing computer or block their IP address? Sounds a lot easier and cheaper for those involved, except for the Nazi Death Camp operators of course.
- borez, on 11/05/2009, -2/+1You do in China.
- LtTilon, on 11/05/2009, -4/+3This is communist China. There, the State is your parent. Don't like the beatings and gulags? Then don't let your country's Government become your parent.
- chriz2fer, on 11/06/2009, -1/+0Is it really internet addiction? Or is at actually internet ***gaming*** addiction?
- CapnSlam, on 11/05/2009, -3/+1don't give our federal government ideas -- once they control you and your health care they can ban ANYTHING
and they will - SplashBot, on 11/25/2009, -6/+2We need similar camps here in North America, only for obesity. Go on, click burry with your oily Dorrittos fingers, do it!
