State controlled Chinese media reports: "Writer and Editor for inaccurate news article commit suicide by shooting themselves in the back of the head, twice." - nofrak1, on 10/10/2007, -5/+101Tiananmen Square Massacre? Don't you mean Tiananmen Square party for the Party? They say there were donuts and balloons and everything!

- stealth45, on 10/10/2007, -3/+55Somebody was shot for that sentence.
- heaintheavy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+54Those kids really had no idea what was going to roll over them...tragic event in history.
In Tiananmen Square there are these little booths scattered all around with people selling film and cheap souvenirs. They are really soldiers in disguise aimed at repressing any demonstration before it gets out of hand. The Chinese party leaders learned their lesson in 1989. - nixonrichard, on 10/10/2007, -10/+59What does that guy who stood in front of the tank have in common with a lobster? They're both crustaceans.
- psyops2000, on 10/10/2007, -4/+48You mean the government of China?
- johnmcgowan, on 10/10/2007, -5/+48in this spot in 1989....NOTHING HAPPENED
- ElwoodHerring, on 10/10/2007, -3/+34I propose a complete boycott of the 2008 Olympics unless and until the Chinese government tell their people the truth about what happened there in 1989. Outside of China, the word 'Tiananmen' brings to mind only one thing, and it's nothing to do with sport.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+34What's sad is that China probably doesn't even have to do all that covering up of the truth. I asked some of my younger Marines if they knew what "tank man" or what Tiananmen Square were. They didn't even know. These are kids right out of High School, why suppress history when the youth and their teachers are willfully ignorant of it.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -10/+38Yeah well we have Fox News, who has headlines like "Is A Vote For A Democrat A Vote For Al-queda?"
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23EVeryone had a great time In fact, some people died of happiness!
- heaintheavy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Yeah, it's called a primary source. I lived in China.
- JasonCox, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20And we all know somewhere in China, the Political Officer of China Daily is now siting in a cell.
- matador3, on 10/10/2007, -7/+24No ***** communism.
- purplegang, on 10/10/2007, -5/+22China is, and has been for at least 15 years, a country with a capitalist economy. The current Communist leaders support the current capitalist system, however their support for the capitalist economy undermines the legitimacy of their government. The Communist Government can't last forever under these conditions.
Let's hope for a soft landing like in East Europe and Russia. - AnonymousFan9, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19I see what you did there
- asaturn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19someone just got fired for this. and by fired I mean murdered along with their family.

I have a friend who has an uncle who went to jail just because something he said was misconstrued and misheard by a neighbor. That's when you realize that, despite all its faults, America really isn't that bad. - macguy815, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15One was to wonder what political protestors will come to the olympics, it seems very unlikely China would do anything to them. I'd love to see some americans walking around in tank man shirts, all the while China doesn't do ***** about it, because they can't. China may love western investment, but I wonder if they realize the ultimate result will be the west bringing information, and thus democracy to their country.

- MurderMystery, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Why aren't more people boycotting the 2008 Beijing Olympics?
- supermanred, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13I have heard this rumor as well from someone who grew up in China and is a recent immigrant to Canada. He said in many tourist areas the soldiers are now under disguise to not strike fear in tourists and not show the Chinese state as being so heavy handed.
- andykram, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Phew, I'm glad the Ministry of Truth was able to get to it before any false information propagated!
- fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Minus communism, China could be a great nation. Don't insult the whole country, insult the government.
- ThinkBox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I have been there with a personal liaison from the government. He would not admit to the occurrence of anything negative at any spot in the whole country. I even had a picture of the incident on my phone (you cant get it off the internet, i brought it from the states). He said it was a prank by some kids and a photographic forgery.
- supermanred, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Hey may be in a cel, but at least he (if he did it intentionally) had the balls to speak up. Western media should take notice.
- triblinator, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I would have titled this article "China gets owned by the Internet."
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10It's not necessarily Communism; it's the government. The Party just pays lip service to Communism (and capitalism, for that matter); all they care about is control and power.
- Toshibi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Aye Comrade! That Goldstein is a tricky one. Double-Plus-Good those guys in MinTru are.
- Spikeli27, on 10/10/2007, -10/+18and ur dad's condom was made in china, thats how u got here.
- Toshibi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8WOW, I really think you missed the whole point! He isn't saying as much about China covering stuff up as he is about how willfully ignorant about recent history people fresh out of High School are!
- lorean, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8*****.
I have visited Tiananmen Square. There are soliders in clear view. And there are cameras. Lots of cameras. Neither the soldiers nor the cameras are hidden.
"I have heard this rumor as well from someone who grew up in China and is a recent immigrant to Canada. He said in many tourist areas the soldiers are now under disguise to not strike fear in tourists and not show the Chinese state as being so heavy handed."
Unfounded speculation. If there are soldiers in disguise, how would anyone know they disguised?
I don't sympathize with the Chinese government, and I openly condemn there human rights violation. BUT, I won't put up with this sort of nonsense "monster in the closet" speculation.
If you have proof, provide it. Solid reasoning is not based on speculation and rumor. - daradib, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Does anyone realize that the Google cache has been deleted. Has Google been censoring the content?
- lorean, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I have lived in two cities in China. I have spoken with numerous University students.
EVERYONE I have asked, without exception, knows about Tiananmen 1989.
I call ***** on the myth that the (educated) Chinese don't know the dark side of their history.
Yeah, I've seen the BBS documentary where the guy interviews a few college students, shows them a picture, and they don't know what's going on. I claim one of the following is true:
1) The students are lying. Because they know everything they is being filmed on camera. And know they can get into a lot of ***** if they run off their mouth.
2) The reporter got (un?)lucky and found unrepresentative sample set of the population.
3) The reporter cherry picked his results.
Yes, people do not know about Tank Man. He's just another protester in another photograph to them.
Yes, it's true if you go into rural China you can find UN-EDUCATED people who do not know about Tiananmen. These people do not know who the president of China is. - WikiEasy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Ah yes. Loving your country is a duty. However, that doesnt' mean you have to love the politics. They are not one and the same.
- Zeenbor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7A powerful documentary.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9***** Bees. Oh wait...wrong story.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+61984, anyone? Monday, August 13, 2007 - Tiananmen Massacre revisited. Tuesday, August 14 2007 Tiananmen Square doesn't exist. And we'll shoot you if you claim to have a redundant memory of nonexistent things!
- fjc8, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6"Soon Chinese, who the greater part of which live in rural areas will have more freedom than United States citizens, if not already. At least the farmers dont have to worry about CCTV cameras and ***** like that."
And what about all the people that live in rural USA already? - tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8With a military issue rifle.
- geoken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6"Yeah, "hung himself""
It's pretty common. It usually happens after they tie "themselves" up and beat "themselves" - Frosty122, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Tank man, spoke for so much..
- mikesly, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6This past semester a Chinese student from Japan came to our American college for the year. The first thing I brought up was the Google.com and Google.cn images of Tiananmen Square. She herself said she knew of what happened but regardless still loves her country.
- fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Have fun with that. The IOC does seem to be pissed about China not living up to its human-rights promises, however, and they can actually do something about it.
- 883XL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5don't forget, its the citizens who suffer at the hands of the Chinese government.
