- kemp34, on 08/11/2008, -27/+285Cheney is not to be trusted and ought to have been impeached by now for all his work in deceiving the American people into war, among other violations.
- Khast, on 08/11/2008, -16/+146Oooh, what are we going to do? We already have a war going on in Iraq..remember? Oh, then there is the proposed attack on Iran.... WTF does ***** Cheney really think of the American Military, that we can stretch our forces out, and be victorious?
Pick your wars, otherwise we are going down like the Roman Empire....since we are already sliding in that direction...thanks to your administration's screwed up war.

- avengingturnip, on 08/11/2008, -9/+87Earlier, Chairman of Russia's State Duma Security Committee Vladimir Vasilyev announced that US helped Georgia start military operation in South Ossetia.
"The further the situation unfolds, the more the world will understand that Georgia would never be able to do all this without America," said Vasilyev. - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -1/+73"Pick your wars..."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caspian_sea#Current_i ...
The oil in the Caspian basin is estimated to be worth over US $12 trillion. The sudden collapse of the USSR and subsequent opening of the region has led to an intense investment and development scramble by international oil companies. In 1998 Dick Cheney commented that "I can't think of a time when we've had a region emerge as suddenly to become as strategically significant as the Caspian."[17]
A key problem to further development in the region is the status of the Caspian Sea and the establishment of the water boundaries among the five littoral states (see below). The current disputes along Azerbaijan's maritime borders with Turkmenistan and Iran could potentially affect future development plans.
Much controversy currently exists over the proposed Trans-Caspian oil and gas pipelines. These projects would allow western markets easier access to Kazakh oil, and potentially Uzbek and Turkmen gas as well. The United States has given its support for the pipelines. Russia officially opposes the project on environmental grounds. Analysts note that the pipelines would bypass Russia completely, thereby denying the country valuable transit fees, as well as destroying its current monopoly on westward-bound hydrocarbon exports from the region. [18] Recently both Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have expressed their support for the Trans-Caspian Pipeline.[19] - Catspaw, on 08/11/2008, -12/+60It looks as if Cheney is trying to start another World War and as his scheme with Iran didn't kick off he's using Georgia and the public is not being told the truth-hence:

Ex-KGB V. Putin - colonelbuckshot, on 08/11/2008, -10/+51The arrogance of the neoconservatives never ceases to amaze me. They don't really care how many people die for their wars of global domination, or any of the other costs
- bffoley, on 08/11/2008, -2/+42Basically there's a pair of breakaway regions in Georgia that have had de facto (but not internationally recognized) independence since the early 90s. One of them, South Ossetia, is very pro-Russian and has a lot of Russian citizens in it and Russia has told Georgia not to ***** with them "or else". The current Georgian government has its lips stuck firmly to the US's ass and thought if they go in heavy to South Ossetia, the USA would back them up because they've sent troops to Iraq and have generally been a pain in the ass to Russia. Turns out they thought wrong and now Russia is showing them what they meant by "or else".
- sb66, on 08/11/2008, -10/+48Someone rein in that ***** before he gets us all killed. Georgia started this, we don't need to be involved in it.
- Khast, on 08/11/2008, -1/+35well played, you got my vote for congress.
- drmobutu, on 08/11/2008, -1/+35Dubya was upset about it, at first, but then Putie told him it's not THAT Georgia...
- Bagos1, on 08/11/2008, -9/+43Why I know what the answer will be....we'll invade Iran, so there you pesky Russians, see how you like that.
WTF....they are going to get us all killed. - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -5/+38If Cheney wants to get his ass up in the air drop him off at the Kremlin unescorted to sort the matter out.
- norman619, on 08/11/2008, -1/+34She's too busy making real change happen in DC like the lunch menu.
- jorichter, on 08/11/2008, -2/+32It's a long complicated history. Basically, Russian funded militants wanting independence in South Ossetia had a conflict with Georgian forces (depending on who's side you listen to, both say the other shot first). This prompted a Georgian response (apparently) which then prompted a Russian response, as many South Ossetians have Russian citizenship. Equally though, many South Ossetians have Georgian citizenship.
There is an obvious conflict of interest, Russia saying their response was just, Georgia saying they have a right to protect their territory. So basically it is like two big kids (one bigger than the other) pointing at each other saying "he started it."
But it deepens, as Georgia wants to be a full member of NATO (for several years) and naturally Russia doesn't want that (it's too close to home for them). People are claiming that the Bush admin is prepping Georgia for this, and I'm no fan of Bush, but the truth is that they were training the pro West Georgia so that they are at level to join NATO. And while many US soldiers are there, there are also French, German and other NATO soldiers there training them too. So some of the claims might be slightly exaggerated, maybe not.
But now other countries are getting involved as both Georgia and Russia are claiming genocide (though it is important to note no one can idependantly confirm either claim). And many now fear that Russia will go further than just SO and start moving to over throw the Georgian government. Which it has apparently already taken strategic places is areas outside of SO. It affects everyone in some way, as Georgia has a number of pipelines through it which people now worry will affect the price of gas (even more). And Georgia is a pro Western government with ties to NATO, so there are diplomatic obligations.
Who is right? No one knows everyone is saying the other one started it. The bitch is that Russians have invaded Digg, condemning all Western media and linking to .ru sites and videos as the "truth." And spamming with really peaceful comments like "Georgians are Nazis" etc. Which as you can image really makes their argument seem reasonable.
Everyone seems to have taken a side so it is hard to sort though all the *****. But the fact is there is a war and people are being hurt. So people need to shut up and hope that this can be resolved peacefully. And hope that it gets no worse than it already is. And most importantly stop taking sides. - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -1/+28He makes me mad as Hell!!!
- GlobalistShill, on 08/11/2008, -7/+34I believe that Cheney, who has long loathed Russia and sees it as an enemy standing against the plans of he and his cohorts, was behind this conflict before the first shot was fired.
- bsmeteronhigh2, on 08/11/2008, -3/+30Remember when the vice president's job was to step into the President's shoes should the need arise and to attend the funerals of foreign dignitaries? President Bush already spoke to Putin at the Olympics.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -10/+35Cheney doesn't give a damn about Georgia, he just cares about the pipelines that go through there. Just like he doesn't give a damn about Afghanistan or Iraq. He just cares that his oil buddies make their profits, and that he gets his cut.
Cheney would love to have Georgia as a neo-Israel in the Caucasus. A little destabilizing country that the US can use as a platform for harassing its neighbors in the region. Did you know the Georgian Minister of Defense is an Israeli?

Ex-envoy: Georgia modeled its army after IDF - chaaalieboy, on 08/11/2008, -3/+23Couple facts in there that weren't true:
Georgia was never a NATO member. They sent troops to Iraq to kiss ass, so they might be granted membership, but NATO members never admitted Georgia for fear of pissing Russia off. Because of this decision, we are not obligated to attack anyone who attacks Georgia.
Secondly, I don't think there has been a single Russian politician to go on record as saying an attack on Iran would be seen as an attack on Russia. They have been strongly opposed to any military action against Iran, but have never gone as far as saying that.
Another thing, the dollar has continued to drop in recent days, so i fail to see the manipulation this guy was talking about.
In all, this conspiracy theorist, while having a VERY basic grasp of the facts and overall situation, completely misread and distorted things - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -2/+21You won't be finding me voting for a Republicrat or a Democan ever again (barring another Ron Paul type, no pun intended).
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -2/+20Obama bringing 'change' is wishful thinking. (the guy attended a godforsaken bilderberg conference, he is one of them now)
Nothing will change with him.
The only guy who was going to bring change was Ron Paul, but, since the media is owned by non-neutral sources, the vast majority of Americans will never understand how much better off the US and the world would've been if Paul was to be president.
This makes me sad. - bananasluggy, on 08/11/2008, -7/+25Phrases that apply in this case:
"Finish off the old fruit before you get more."
"Don't stir ***** up if you can't handle the smell."
"Don't burn your bridges while you're standing on them."
The sons and daughters of the poor are running a bit thin in numbers... we're running out of felons and dropouts too. Before those in power start any new *****, they need to take care of the stuff they've got going. Heck, we don't have enough bodies as it is... we can hardly afford to start more crap. Talk about "out of touch"? It almost seems as if they're trying to start as much crap as possible, just so they can be sure the next president has to do things their way, no matter who wins...
As for the crap we've already got started... It'd be nice if, before we start pulling out the big guns, we asked ourselves, "Do they have a legit gripe? How many times have we totally screwed them over in the past? Are their problems largely our fault?" Or, maybe, "Do they even want our help?"
It'd be nice, too, if America could accept that it can't solve everyone's problems... especially those people who were hacking at each other long before the first clump of white trash washed ashore on this continent with their bibles, diseases, and inability to feed themselves... that'd be awesome. - phenry, on 08/11/2008, -3/+20"Perhaps when the next great war comes we may see that sight unprecedented in all history, a jingo with a bullet-hole in him." George Orwell
One thing you can count on, it will not be in Cheney.... - Waiting2awake, on 08/11/2008, -6/+23Because it isn't them dying. This can stop today if America would just stand up against their government. Too much fear that a conflict would make them end up in jail or dead.
But aren't Americans dying now? Knowing what happened in Katerina, knowing how they treated the firefighters of 911..... When the next false flag attack happens - how many more Americans are going to die?
It seems to me most of America is already dead, the only question is whether they are going to go out on their knees or on their feet.
Best of luck my friends - wouldn't it have been nice if you guys took care of these pricks back when all they did was steal an election? - kemp34, on 08/11/2008, -3/+20If one were to view the world from a "conflict and control" frame of mind (as opposed to the more Ron Paulian "Peace and Free Trade" frame of mind), it is clear that the Georgian region is a critical strategic location as it is the area directly linking Europe to the Caspian Sea, home of some of largest known oil reserves. Knowing that Cheney is both an oil guy and a "conflict and control" thinker, it is obvious that he would have a deep interest in this situation. It would be no surprise, in the least, if he helped prod this situation into what it has become.
- kemp34, on 08/11/2008, -1/+16If I am not mistaken, that is actually an Iranian news source.
Also, if you were responding to my comment about Cheney deceiving the American people into war, that was in relation to the Iraq War, not the current Georgian conflict. - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -5/+20I've always had a gut feeling Bush/Cheney are not leaving without pressing the big red button (scared).
Bob Woodward: "how is history likely to judge your Iraq war?"
George W. Bush: "History, we don't know. We'll all be dead." - sphira, on 08/11/2008, -5/+20Cheney is a very smart cookie - like a fox

They are warmongering ***** who have IGNORED the will of the people, lied, and directly disobeyed their oath of office (which is an impeachable offense).
Why the ***** is Congress so scared of Bush and Cheney. Congress, Cheney and Bush should all hang for this *****. I don't give a rats ass what their positions are, they broke their promises to the people of this country, they have failed us, and they should pay the piper. - duggdowncatisad, on 08/11/2008, -1/+16Given Cheney's marksmanship skills, if he aims for Russia, he's probably going to end up hitting Iran.
- Whorebane, on 08/11/2008, -1/+16Actually they have. Many of the people of South Ossetia are Russian citizens, use Russian currency, and associate themselves with the Russian Federation.
