- fadeout, on 10/11/2007, -16/+96Providing health care to those in need - whomever they are - is "ironic" to Americans, the rest of the world considers it "compassionate."
- kiwikultist, on 10/10/2007, -7/+33Hey, there's nothing wrong with buying a shirt in an American mall with a picture of a man who fought capitalism his entire life on it
- nepawoods, on 10/10/2007, -5/+31"The only people in America who still support him are the liberal types, particularly on a few college campuses."
Oh ... and the t-shirt manufacturers and mall outlets. Makes some good profit. Viva la Capitalism! - nepawoods, on 10/10/2007, -13/+38"You're being dugg down by leftwing wackos who just looooove Che..."
Or by people who just love the Che t-shirt they picked up in the mall. They don't really know what he did, but hey ... cool t-shirt, right? - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -12/+37Why people idolize Che is completely beyond me.
- jlharrity, on 10/10/2007, -10/+30Yes, a very Christian thing to do. The religious right doesn't get that part, though.
- seraph582, on 10/10/2007, -9/+28quick!! che-shirt-wearing trendhwores, PRETEND TO CARE!!!
- reddevil3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Cuba is well known for "exporting" it's highly qualified doctors around South America and other parts of the world. It kinda makes you feel all warm and fuzzy doesn't it?
- notque, on 10/10/2007, -6/+24That is pretty unexpected, and a good sign for progress even if Che isn't available to see it. At least Mario Teran can as well as all of us.
- nepawoods, on 10/10/2007, -9/+25Che was a murderer, but Teran was no hero. Someone else gave the order to execute Che once he was captured, and some soldiers drew straws. Teran won.
- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20I like your Christ; I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.
~ Mohandas Gandhi - GiggaDigga, on 10/10/2007, -7/+21The irony resides in the killer being healed by a result of the very same process he fought against. It would be like a terrorist being healed in the very same hospital he failed to plant a bomb in because he got hurt in the attempt.
- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -12/+25i'm sure the british felt the same way about the founding fathers. one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.
- Dongvid, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17Che's an overglorified murderer.
- ben2k9, on 10/10/2007, -15/+27Che was a sick, sadistic murderer. The irony is that ignorant hipsters idolize him as some sort of "freedom fighter", when in fact he was simply the henchman for Fidel's own brand of dictatorship. He murdered with enjoyment. But hey - don't let the truth stand in the way of a cool t-shirt!!!
- p51d007, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11I was getting ready to add that LOL.......I bet he would roll in his grave if he knew those capitalist dogs were making money off
of him hahahahaha - TRUEPATRIOT, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15ah selective judgement is great.yeah che killed some traitors but at the same time george washington owned and beat his slave some probably died.we all tend to overlook the bad for the greater good and im sure we would all love batista right?
- SouthsideIrish, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15Read the real story of the last days of Che. The man was a coward!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16So you think a cold blooded murderer is a hero. How exactly does that make you any better than the people worshiping Che Guevara?
- jejeje666, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12He believed (and played a major role) in a *revolution* that was formed in several countries.
He fought his war because he believed it would make things better for his people. not because he wanted his enemies to live in fear. That's how he was not a terrorist. He was a revolutionary, there's a world of difference, even if you don't agree with his views or his philosophy. - RogerStrong, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Because Heinrich Himmler isn't as photogenic.
- RogerStrong, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Comparing Batista and Che is like comparing a mafia leader with Heinrich Himmler.
Tell us; all those people that Che had tortured and executed for wanting democracy, do you respect them too? To simplify the question, I'm not talking about all those who were WRONGLY accused, tortured and executed without trial or defense (Che was very much against things like fair trials or appeals). - CatsAreGods, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14216 Documented Victims of Che Guevara in Cuba: http://www.cubaarchive.org/downloads/CA08.pdf
- Daishiman, on 10/10/2007, -11/+19I'm sure your grandparents were really loving it when Batista made Cuba the haven of the Florida mafia.
I'm ambivalent towards the morality of what Che did, but the man successfully revolted a small nation and turned it around while he was still alive (look at the literacy rates before and after de Cuban Revolution), and actually believed the stuff he fought for. I'd like to think that people wear Che shirts because they respect a man who has the balls to fight for what he believes. Then again, there's a sufficient amount of idiots who do so out of idiocy and ignorance. - nepawoods, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8"I bet he would roll in his grave if he knew those capitalist dogs were making money off of him"
And every nickel coming from adoring fans, who don't seem to realize they're supporting what he was against. - Neem, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8People Idolize the Idea of Che because they don't know the real life Che. He wasn't an idealist hero; he was he was a cruel and sadistic henchman.
- solid12345, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12"The negro is indolent and lazy, whereas the European is forward-looking and hard-working." - Che Gueavera
The man is definitely a myth, but not a legend. - geekee, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12Yeah, Cuba is the pinnacle of freedom. That's why no one is allowed to leave.
- Derrekito, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Isn't it ironic that che's face is being plastered all over T-shirts produced and sold by capitalist elites?
- Sketchcast, on 10/10/2007, -6/+12It gives them a chance to work when there is no open jobs at home. These same doctors were ready to help the Katrina victims before Supreme Leader George Bush turned them away. The exporting of Cuban doctors has done more good for South America than the countless regime changes and terrorist campaigns your fasicst nation has unleashed upon that continent.
- solid12345, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9And Castro's regime is not a mobster regime? Castro and his goons eat lobster for dinner while his people wallow in the gutters.
- lieutenantmudd, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Or poetic compassion and forgiveness.
- Alex2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7It became popular with some rock band in the early-mid 90's.
- orph3us, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Thats so much *****. He was not a sadistic murderer. The prior Cuban government lead by Fulgencio Batista was much worse than the one lead by Fidel. Che was an idealist and he believed that you could get nothing done without guns, and he was right. And a henchman for Fidel's own brand of dictatorship, thats just misinformed at best. He left Cuba because he disagreed with what Fidel was doing. His idealism was purely for power to be with the people, not a dictatorship. Where the hell do you get your information? "He murdered with enjoyment"? ..... The things that were going on in South America at the time that Castro and Guevara started their coup in Cuba was a very bad time. The United Fruit company and other "outsourced" companies from the United States and other nations were running slave labor and paying off the corrupt leaders to let it happen. Killing for the sake of a coup is better than letting slaves be killed for the sake of some corrupt politicians and company CEO's..... My parents are from Argentina and told me of first hand experiences they had with their corrupt government in the 60's. Where friends would simply disappear for speaking out against the government or supporting Communism. After the stories I've been told and what I've read, the post you made is rather offensive to me. But reply to me if you have any sources that you have some information I may have missed. Otherwise you seem to be spouting some ***** that a lot of Americans seem to believe, and falsely at that.
- CatsAreGods, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10The Discovery Channel had an interesting documentary on Che's last years, which showed how Che was betrayed and marked for death by his good friend and compatriot, Fidel Castro.
So this isn't a bit ironic, in fact. - nepawoods, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7methinks you missed some sarcasm. i.e., in the obvious contrast between buying something in a mall, and fighting capitalism, and pretending to be oblivious to the contrast.
- Sketchcast, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9In countries with public health care unhealthy lifestyles are heavily taxed. Buy a pack of cigarettes in Canada and you'll understand.
- Gerz1219, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9To be fair, the Batista regime was not exactly a libertarian utopia in which the rights of the individual were sacrosanct.
- brockpetrie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Gandhi said the same thing about black people; in fact, Gandhi despised them.
There's good and bad in us all; it's a constant weight scale. - Sketchcast, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Schwit: by your logic the American revolution was an act of terrorist aggression.
- Leomarth, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Che: No matter if you spend your entire life fighting the forces of capitalism, you will still be sold on a t-shirt by The Gap.
- caupolixan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5 Che was not great, he was just human who lived and died for something he believed in. That's the myth. Now Batista was just a 2 dollar whore for U.S corporations.
- solid12345, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9USSR was a failure from day 1. Lenin was almost as blood thirsty as Stalin. People forget the Bolsheviks did not overthrow the Tsar, they overthrew the democratic parliament put into place by the abdication of the Tsar.
- toxicshok, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I'd like to think I own a ferrari, but it just isn't so.
Plus you are ignoring the bad he did for only the good. That would be me saying Bush was a great president. - p51d007, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10Probably because they were "educated" by socialistic teachers from the time they could walk and chew gum.
- schwit, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12How was Che not a terrorist. He was a non-Bolivian trying to overthrow the Bolivian government by violence.
- p51d007, on 10/10/2007, -10/+14If you are so anti-capitalist as you say you are, what are you doing living and working in America? Shouldn't you swim back to Cuba to
help them out and live in your anti-capitalist dream world. I bet your parents are so proud - capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9Well actually being an anarcho-communist, I'd beg to differ.
- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Reminds me of what those Kings said about Democracy and the Greeks.
Then again, perhaps Plato and them were right. Personally I like anarchy more then dictatorships, even benevolent ones. - capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -6/+10too bad he wasn't around to see the Soviet Union actually form a socialist state and not a stalinist dictatorshi -- hey, wait a minute!
