- TobiasParker, on 07/19/2009, -9/+380...If there is a heaven, and those are the kind of people who get in, i would rather be in hell.
- amoirae, on 07/19/2009, -23/+342Maybe the 9 year old will grow up to be a happy atheist without the stupid dogma from a doily wearing ex-nazi pope.
- Fhwqhgads, on 07/19/2009, -38/+309***** RELIGION
- Floobins, on 07/19/2009, -8/+246Oh no! Now she'll never get to go to church again! What a horrible punishment!
- AndrewDB, on 07/19/2009, -8/+242The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster will welcome her with open noodley appendages.
Seriously, what is wrong with Christianity and it's off-shoots? :( - inactive, on 07/19/2009, -11/+158The Pope can go ***** himself.
- mparker21311, on 07/19/2009, -14/+128The earth is 6000 years old. In fact the entire universe is 6000 years old. Man was made from the dirt and the woman was made from the man's rib. The reason that there is evil in the world is because a talking snake convinced a naked woman to eat a forbidden fruit from a magic tree. Two members of every single species of animal fit into a wooden boat built by a drunken old man and somehow they had enough food and fresh water to live on this boat for 40 days and for some reason the carnivores never ate any of the other animals.
The reason that there are different languages, races, and cultures on this earth is because mankind tried to build a giant tower and god was afraid that the tower might reach heaven. So he split all the people off and made them different races and made them speak different languages so they couldn’t communicate to each other anymore to conspire against him.
A man who was once his own father was once nailed to some sticks to save us from the realm of eternal torture that he himself created to punish those who don’t agree that he's such a swell guy for nailing himself to those sticks in the first place.
From the people who brought you all of these great "facts" comes another dubious claim. The pope, god's butler here on earth said that condoms are a big part of the aids problem in Africa. This statement is of course on a front to empirical evidence to common sense and also to common decency. But I'm kind of surprised the media is treating his words like such a controversy. Religion has never had a problem stating bold faced mistruths as if they were handed down from a divine and purportedly infallible being.
A Christian is someone who believes life begins when you die.
A Christian is someone who believes in a fairy tale over the scientific theory of evolution.
And now it looks as though a Christian is someone who believes that condoms spread STDs.
So when a Christian is exposed to a lie and a truth they unfailingly choose the lie. If there is a better word for that than STUPID? I never heard it. - mickers1940, on 07/19/2009, -6/+105bassman, i couldnt agree with you more, in the wise words of bill maher, "Religion is dangerous because it allows human beings who don't have all the answers to think that they do. Most people would think it's wonderful when someone says, 'I'm willing Lord, I'll do whatever you want me to do.' Except that since there are no gods actually talking to us, that void is filled in by people with their own corruptions and limitations and agendas."
- Kimera2006, on 07/19/2009, -8/+104I'd like to see a day when everyone uses reason instead of religion.
- elijahyossie, on 07/19/2009, -6/+101That is extraordinary - the writers of that document should roast in hell.
- heartsblood, on 07/19/2009, -4/+97I thought that's what alter boys were for
- JasonCox, on 07/19/2009, -6/+95It's the Catholic church. Hitler could have repented on his death bed and he'd still get in according to those whack jobs.
- ThantiK, on 07/19/2009, -4/+91Seriously...rape victim...welcome her with noodley appendages?...
Are you Japanese by chance? - urbieta, on 07/19/2009, -15/+91Thank god I am an Atheist!
- IgorUnchained, on 07/19/2009, -8/+83But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
---Luke 18:16
I bet if that verse was about fags they would know it. God, I hate christians. - fury420, on 07/19/2009, -2/+62the girl was 9 years old, and raped & impregnated by her stepfather.
your selective morals & compassion disgust me
Jesus would be ashamed of you.
that is all. - AndrewDB, on 07/19/2009, -0/+54I knew that'd sound wrong to someone ...
- SilverBlade2k, on 07/19/2009, -14/+68Aaaaannndd..the very VERY little respect I had for the Catholic Church is now gone.
- takamalak, on 07/19/2009, -2/+56Kosh, you are wrong. According to the Baptists I've talked to in the south at least, if you are a killer, a rapists of children, a torturer of innocent babies, a cannibal, a necrophiliac, all of those combined, and if you get killed by a cop in a dirty alley, and you are in your last seconds of life and "repent", you will get into heaven.
The atheist reporter that wrote it up in the paper, who never committed a crime in his life will go to hell. - IgorUnchained, on 07/19/2009, -5/+55judging not?
forgiving neighbor's trespasses?
turning the other cheek?
"vengeance is MINE sayeth the Lord?
No, Im just kidding.....I know you are supposed to kill the little murderess with rocks to save her soul. I was just sayin. - DaviDTC, on 07/19/2009, -7/+56The rapist will be forgiven too and welcomed in the religion.
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -7/+54It's not bashing if they're being *****.
- mrsteveman1, on 07/19/2009, -2/+48That's really the core of the thing here, they "excommunicated" her, but that really doesn't mean much to the real world, and i'm sure she'll learn that lesson real quick.
- schoate09, on 07/19/2009, -2/+45Personally founded by Saint Peter you mean. Christ did not start a church for himself...
The Bible, take it however you will, states that God told Peter to create the church. - kaijunexus, on 07/19/2009, -5/+47Are we glad that someone has left a hypocritical monstrosity of a religion, albeit forcefully? Absolutely.
Are we glad that a 9 year old girl has been labeled an evil sinner by a billion ignorant, brainless ***** that most likely include her entire family? Um...no. - rl41, on 07/19/2009, -2/+43Do you think that a 9 year old girl would survive giving birth?
- fury420, on 07/19/2009, -1/+40gotta love how Christians always focus on and believe in the parts of the bible that they find useful, while disregarding much of the rest.
I for one had no idea there was stuff in the Old Testament that forbids shaving your facial hair or sideburns off for one, it just seems to go against the image of the modern clean-shaven Christian. - Sethbacca, on 07/19/2009, -0/+39***** awesome, hookers EVERYWHERE?!? Since you're already dead at that point, VD is kind of a non issue! Sweet!
- kaijunexus, on 07/19/2009, -3/+41You had respect for the catholic church...?
- Loubee, on 07/19/2009, -2/+37That child is WAY AHEAD, hopefully freed from the fanatical dogma that oppressed her. No difference between the creed that entitled her step-father and the sharia that victimizes countless shamed, beaten and raped (married!) girls.
- AndrewDB, on 07/19/2009, -1/+34Okay then, what is wrong with Followers of Christ?..
Happy? - Dealjobber, on 07/19/2009, -0/+32When I was in Sunday school, my teacher said that everybody in hell did drugs and there were hookers everywhere.
- yunus, on 07/19/2009, -3/+35I'm confused, I can't find anywhere in the article that the 9 year old was excommunicated. Everyone else involved was but the only thing I can find is a link from this article to a Time article dated July 18,2009 and in that article they say the girl is not excommunicated.
It's a stupid move on the Catholic churches part but its also an incorrect title and the article is wrong in stating the EVERYONE was excommunicated, Buried unless someone can show me where the church is saying the girl is excommunicated. - SirBruce, on 07/19/2009, -2/+33The Catholic Church totally supported Hitler in the early years. Even as late as 1939 and 1940 Catholic bishops were giving prayers in celebration of Hitler's birthday. When he attacked the Godless Communists in 1941, he was praised for that as well.
- fury420, on 07/19/2009, -1/+31just because there are a handful of recorded cases of 9 year olds surviving caesarian section births does not mean that a 9 year old could come out of a natural birth of a baby anywhere close to full term without complications likely leading to the death of both mother & infant.
- Elderon, on 07/19/2009, -5/+34such hypocrites, if an abortion is grounds for excommunication then every soldier that has ever killed anyone in any war all need to be kicked out of the church as well. I just find it amusing that when a person murders someone it's all "you need to let jesus into your heart" but if you have an abortion it's like "you ***** burn in hell, jesus hates you".
- rushiku, on 07/19/2009, -5/+34"It's the Church personally founded by Christ."
- Jesus originally called it "GotAQuarter?"
- After his death, entrepreneurs seized the opportunity to make some fast cash, changing the name to "Catholic" - it was the first in a long line of made up BS names for money generating ventures.
The more you know - hauntedchippy, on 07/19/2009, -12/+40People still listen to the Catholic church?
- vroom101, on 07/19/2009, -4/+32From the article "A Sequel to the Case of the Pregnant Nine-Year Old" by Jeff Israely at http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20090718/wl_time/0859 ... (news.yahoo.com/s/time/20090718/wl_time/08599191149500):
. . . In a tucked away "clarification" published on page 7 of a recent edition of L'Osservatore Romano, the Vatican produced a document that unequivocally confirmed automatic excommunication for anyone involved in an abortion - even in such a situation as dire as the Brazilian case. It settles any questions about the absolute nature of Church doctrine on the matter of abortion - but could potentially reignite the PR firestorm. . . . - heartsblood, on 07/19/2009, -9/+37ex?
- StaticThunder, on 07/19/2009, -5/+32Hitler WAS in, because of those whack jobs.
- wastelander, on 07/19/2009, -0/+24http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VABSoHYQr6k&eur ...
:-) - novenator, on 07/19/2009, -5/+27So you think it's morally right to excommunicate a 9 year old rape victim for getting an abortion to what would have certainly become a pregnancy that would have threatened her life and not he step-father who raped a 9 year old?
What is wrong with your moral compass? - hauntedchippy, on 07/19/2009, -3/+24In my 'view', every time someone says "hello" they are murdering one of my many invisible elephant friends, what is an appropriate response to murder?
- digxag, on 07/19/2009, -8/+29Just to be clear, what actually happened is the exact opposite of what this article claims. The church excommunicated all the parties involved EXCEPT FOR the 9-year old rape victim, on account of her age. I don't agree with the Catholic position, but there's not really any need to tell a complete falsehood to write a compelling opposition, is there? That would be a tacit admission that our side can't win on the facts.
Buried. - rl41, on 07/19/2009, -1/+21What a troll
- chudroy, on 07/19/2009, -6/+26a senile old man wearing a funny hat said something in latin and now i can't go somewhere i'm not sure even exists.. scaaaary
- mrsteveman1, on 07/19/2009, -0/+20Some of them still look and act like parasites well into their 20s
- charm803, on 07/19/2009, -3/+23Good. They did her a favor.
If she is still interested in religion after this, it will make her find solace elsewhere, thus being exposed to other things and hopefully, thinking outside the box.
Once you start questioning religion, you never go back. -
