- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -18/+57Hah, believe me people, no one will ever know the name nor the faces of this officers. why? because they don't exist. This is Chavez' strategy to make look the opposition as fascists and "golpistas." He is also trying to destroy the student's movement by making us look like rioters, that is his strategy.
How many times have we heard about some people that were planning to kill Chavez and "thank God" they were arrested before they could, but we never heard about the case anymore? And they are just National Guard, did they had the support from officers from the Army? Navy? or the two officers were going to do it on their own? We will never know. Also, Chavez' doesn't need no create such a complex lie for his people to believe him and start saying we are the violent ones (and we are not the ones throwing tear gas to tv stations and universities and to the Apostolic Nunciature!).
I remember some years ago that this huge operation was made where the National Guard found hundreds of guns, shotguns, even Uzis and grenades in a little house in a middle class neighborhood here in Caracas. Allegedly, they first arrested 4 Colombians with false documentation, and they gave two addresses as they're residence, one house in "La Miranda" (where they later found the guns) and one house in "El Hatillo" (also a middle class neighborhood). They funny thing is, 3 days later, we never heard anything about what happened and/or who were this Colombian people and if they worked for someone else. And the house in El Hatillo? National Guard never bothered going there, after they found hundreds of guns in the first one. - Infowarsdotcom, on 02/07/2009, -4/+22Well the Bilderberg Group has admitted it is one of their key goals to remove Chavez from power for the last few years.
Follow the money and you'll find a Bilderberg member.

- clickmyface, on 02/07/2009, -3/+16WHICH NATIONAL GUARD?
One would think, given how much the U.S. is mentioned, that it would be the U.S. National Guard. To clarify for anyone confused, they were Venezuelans from the "Guardia Nacional de Venezuela" (the Venezuelan National Guard.) Nice, classy journalism. - 3tcp, on 02/06/2009, -7/+19In Venezuela, Emanuel Goldstein = the USA
- risar, on 02/07/2009, -8/+19This is not the first time America has tried to stage a coup against Chavez.
- dig1x, on 02/07/2009, -7/+17No. Not at all.
You are aware the USA was involved in the coup attempt?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Revolution_Will_n ... - fantaman13, on 02/07/2009, -10/+20Oof, nice try CIA. Maybe next time.
- GMH24, on 02/07/2009, -8/+16Chavez has to be the most immature, paranoid, attention seeking, political leader of our time. I mean honestly, have you guys ever even listened to his speeches? All he does is call people names and make ludicrous claims. I lived in Venezuela for a few years, and it was shocking to see how he controlled the media and manipulated the poor/uneducated with it.
- L0t3k, on 02/07/2009, -1/+9Good luck man. Be careful.
- llopez1223, on 02/07/2009, -1/+9He was paranoid wayyy before any coup against him was made.
- inactive, on 02/07/2009, -12/+19I see that the Digg flow here is to ridicule Chavez as a mad paranoid man. Let's make one thing clear, There are forces that do not want him as president of Venezuela. When Chavez got overthrown in the last coup attempt, which country was the first to recognise the new administration ? The United States . Chavez has been doing a lot of good down in Venezuela. He's finally dispersing the oil wealth around. It's the high class who own the opposition media and the united states who are not happy about Chavez as they don't have an oil puppet there anymore. I sincerely would not be suprised if the CIA and the opposition are trying to get rid of him.
- inactive, on 02/07/2009, -2/+9Here is some proof that supports David's claim, the illegal use of state resources in favor of the "Si" (yes) campaign for the indefinite re-election:
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/2489/construyeje2.j ... --> "Here, Chavez constructs Metro Station Chuao, one more reason to vote Yes"
http://www.noticierodigital.com/titulares/wp-conte ... --> A huge "Yes" sign hanging at the "Caracas' Electricity" building.
http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/903/incect3.jpg --> Another huge sign for the Yes campaign, this time hanging from the INCES (National Institute for Socialist Training and Education) building.
Btw, ALL the above institutions are state-owned. - daviddiaz, on 02/07/2009, -4/+11He was elected many times in open, fair and free elections... minus the open, fair and free parts.
You know nothing about what Chavez's government is like. I lived there for three years under his rule, and much of my family is still there. Finding food is difficult, even for the "Bourgeois Oligarchs" that according to Chavez have so much power over the country. We're complaining about a 7.6% unemployment rate in America, but that's nothing compared to the astronomical figures in Venezuela due to Chavez driving out the "greedy imperialist capitalists" that actually provided jobs for the people. - GMH24, on 02/07/2009, -1/+8The US did nothing substantial to "back" the coup, but yeah, it is definitely in their best interest to see Chavez out of office. But that's simply politics. I don't like the guy simply because he's driven by rage, and seeks to deprive people of their freedoms in order to strengthen his grip on the country. I couldn't care less what political persuasion he is. On the other hand, I think it is important to note that the "Opposition" leaders who are attempting to take his place are equally fanatical, and I'm doubting Venezuela would be any better off with them in charge. Sad really.
- llopez1223, on 02/07/2009, -2/+9While that may be true, his "Red Bolivarian Revolution," is also costing his people a great amount. Aside from people that are basically starving, he is also very active in censoring the media. Again he does have a point that the western world basically ***** Latin America over, it does not mean that he is doing the right nor does it mean that he is doing what is best for his people.
- TheTorontonian, on 02/07/2009, -5/+12^^^^ Indeed. I run a Spanish group up here in Toronto with over 1000+ people an there a good chunk of Venezuelans. Although they might not like a few things about the guy --I mean, really who is 100% loved?-- they all respect the guy on a non-personal basis. Besides, it is no secret the US is really not a fan. So anything that comes up is bound to get thrown around to make a fuzz.
- WheezyMustafa, on 02/07/2009, -0/+6***** Hugo Chavez. I have family in Venezuela who are really hurting right now because of everything that's been going on. I hope the youth in that country creates a powerful movement that can hopefully get that country going in the right direction.
- satrac, on 02/07/2009, -2/+8I was in your shoes in the beginning but as I got to know more about Chavez I began to see a different side. He's really is a dictator and a tyrant. In venezuela if you vote against him you get blacklisted. You can't get a visa to the US, Europe nor Canada unless you try to appeal and then who knows. He knows your voting record because it's all electronic. He also controls all of his countrys' media. Meaning there's no opposition views only his views being broadcasted. He spreads lies and crazy accusations without any opposition. You wouldn't dare speak out against him because he has people everywhere. That's revolutionary socialism? It's fascism!
He also has this belief that Venezuela, Ecuador and Colombia are going to unite again to the time of Simon Bolivar but with him as its infinite leader! But he's not going to call it by its original name though, "Gran Colombia" he's going to call it El Patrioca.
He takes over companies like electricity, mining, oil, communications of course, media, etc... Plus he's always amending the constitution to legalize his throne as President.
He keeps tightening his grip on his people be making them more and more dependant on him and his people are powerless now to stop him! - inactive, on 02/07/2009, -0/+6Who said turpialito was referring to his job? Chavez right now is trying to amend the constitution so he can be eligible for indefinite re-election. A proposal which was inside a Reform he proposed in 2007, for which the Venezuelan people already said No. Chavez is basically asking the same thing again.
And turpialito, remember, el 15 a las 15! ;) - Gwyddyon, on 02/07/2009, -9/+15And the people he's chased out of the country, and the increasingly large opposition blocks in the poor sectors of Venezuela, and Colombia...
Chavez started out with some promise and quickly slipped into egotistical thug mode. Sorry. - turpialito, on 02/07/2009, -8/+13And now Chavez is an anti-semitic dictator. You should have seen him blowing off the press when asked about the Caracas synagogue attack. Hes not building the "quinta república", or fifth republic, as he claims. He's building the "quinto Reich". His slogan should be "Chavez ist der Sieg"
- Tuck23, on 02/06/2009, -5/+10thanks for the inside scoop...do you blog about Venezuelan news? Think you would be a good news asset
- Hollister, on 02/07/2009, -1/+6Whoever is making these accounts for your site:
NO ONE on digg is going to click that link. This is the worst place to come to and try and pull that *****. DUMB
and FAIL - inactive, on 02/07/2009, -1/+6Yes, really. And last time I checked, the leader of that "***** of people" once said:
"...nada es tan peligroso como dejar permanecer largo tiempo en un mismo ciudadano el poder. El pueblo se acostumbra a obedecerle y él se acostumbra a mandarlo; de donde se origina la usurpación y la tiranía."
"...nothing is as dangerous as letting a citizen stay in power for a long period of time. The people gets used to obey him and he gets used to order them; which leads to usurping and tyranny."
-Simón Bolívar. Congress of Angostura, 1819
Which is exactly what Chavez is trying to achieve with his indefinite re-election amendment. - GMH24, on 02/07/2009, -2/+7Did you even read the article? First off, the Title is "Allegations of U.S. involvement". There is no direct evidence to support the claim. The US did nothing substantial to back the coup, if they did anything at all. Of course the US doesn't like Chavez, that's obvious.
"The OIG report found no "wrongdoing" by U.S. officials either in the State Department or in the U.S. Embassy"
This article DOES NOT "prove" anything. - axisdelasal, on 02/07/2009, -0/+5"But they were not sent home because U.S. prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed there was evidence they would be tortured, according to court documents and their attorneys"
Hypocrites, what US did to their so called terrorist? - Gudeldar, on 02/08/2009, -0/+4I find it kind of hard to believe the US National Guard would attempt a coup on anybody. I think the CIA would at least use Marines or some sort of special forces.
- eavesdrop, on 02/07/2009, -0/+4I used to respect Chavez until I learned he censored. I believe what you say. I wish it wasn't true.
- inactive, on 02/07/2009, -4/+8School of the Americas. Innocuous name. Not-so-innocuous results.
"Open Veins of Latin America". Read it. - Barackalypse, on 02/07/2009, -6/+10I'm sure after several months of drastically lowered oil prices Hugo is realizing that he won't be able to afford to give the people everything he promised, so he needed to fabricate a common enemy to unite the people behind him.
- ZenMojo, on 02/07/2009, -1/+5Why did no one ever blame Bush for attacks on Muslims in our country? From what I can tell they happened at about 20 times the rate of anti-Semitic attacks in Colombia and people actually died.
- jii731, on 02/07/2009, -0/+4You mean USA didn't get caught doing it. Bush government went so far as to recognize the coup'ers' new government before it failed. Also wasn't it CIA helicopters that put the gun to Chavez; either come with us to exile or be killed.
They later let him go after Venezuelans did a successful counter-coup.
Shame on you americans who don't know what your own government is doing around the world. You need to learn to read through all that demonization propaganda, or read the local medias abroad. And change the crap channel from FOX.
Chavez has major popularity and has won many fair elections with overwhelming popularity. He has withstood many american assassination attempts. You need to take a good look in the mirror if you think he's paranoid or nuts. He has ample reason to be and the reason is right there in USA, Washington D.C. Americans need to face the fact that USA doesn't play it nice with leaders around the world who have something of value they want control over: oil.
US oil companies are the biggest instigators of coups and violence around the world and CIA and US government are their proxies in these affairs. Where-ever there's oil, there's also CIA arranging their own men into power through proxies. Somalia, Darfur, Iraq, Iran, Venezuela....
You may call Chavez a socialist, but he's a damn good one. Giving free health care to millions of poor people. That is not something the US corporations want. They would have wanted to keep stealing the oil and sell it for gigantic profits. The fact that you people allow these companies to soil US hands in blood around the world in pursuit of profits is a shame on upon all americans. - omarst, on 02/07/2009, -6/+10cogh cogh, bush twice somebody?
- siszam, on 02/07/2009, -4/+8You don't know the difference between communism and socialism. I'd love to see you read a book.
- RetlawST, on 02/07/2009, -1/+5Chavez really needs to ratchet back that anti-US hysteria. Most of the problems Venezuela is having with the US have been created by this wacko.
- thcobbs, on 02/07/2009, -1/+5Well, Chavez should know how coups get started....
He did it himself. - inactive, on 02/07/2009, -2/+6here's british documentary about real true about chavez and americas plots, it realy is eye opening about this anti chavez dictator propaganda, also its about whole central and south america and how it have been americas playground...
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-373950057 ... - L0t3k, on 02/07/2009, -5/+9You can post that same message over and over again in this thread, it doesn't make it any more ACCURATE.
We get it, you love Chavez. Relax. - BananaGrabber, on 02/07/2009, -5/+8Well, there was an attempted coup backed by the US. Why shouldn't he be paranoid?
- inactive, on 02/07/2009, -1/+4here's something more to support dig1x
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-373950057 ... - Gwyddyon, on 02/07/2009, -1/+4mushoo, you know what the difference is between Chavez and Juan Carlos? One of them stepped aside and encouraged a democracy to replace tyranny. The other stepped in to start turning a democracy INTO a tyranny. Which one is which, again?
- aufte, on 02/07/2009, -3/+6Americans are always making friends all over the world..
- turpialito, on 02/07/2009, -9/+12You're ***** me, right? You either don't live in Venezuela or you have a comfortable job in his government.
- siszam, on 02/07/2009, -8/+11Even after eight years of Bush killing Americans and ruining our country the idiots still believe what the government tells them. They worship government and hate Chavez because Rush and Coulter tell them too. Everything they say is untrue. They ignore that fact that Chavez is much loved and was elected multiple times. They even ignore U.S. government documents that prove we arrange coups against other leaders. You can't get through to these the public school, rednecks who don't even read. If they read The Chavez Code, which supplies our won government documents, they would still spew their propaganda.
I applaud you for trying to speak the truth but I think you're too intelligent for this group. - turpialito, on 02/07/2009, -0/+3@mushoo: seems truth bit you.
- inactive, on 02/07/2009, -1/+4"Chavez kills no one. When the CIA/NED overthrew him in 2004, the citizens put this popular president right back in office."
Actually, Chavez during 11th April killed around 14 people.
And where did you read that the citizens put Chavez back in office? It were the military, the same ones who 47 hours before had thew him out, that put. The only thing citizens did during all this was vandalize and loot. Oh and around some hundreds of people around Miraflores (compare that to the hundreds of thousands of people who marched 2 days before that to throw Chavez out.)
Also, insecurity is in the rise like never before here in Venezuela. 9193 dead in Iraq during 2008... 2130 dead ONLY in Caracas during the same period. Not defending Bush here, but demonstrating that Chavez is more than one one-hundredth as bad as Bush. - inactive, on 02/07/2009, -0/+3His name is Goldstein
- inactive, on 02/07/2009, -0/+3Takes a line..
