- davidhallstrom, on 06/28/2008, -0/+26Anxiety, fear, stress, depression, etc. are not just limited to Canada and the United States. It's a world wide problem that I fear is only going to get worse.
- smacksaw, on 06/29/2008, -2/+24The Liberals did deserve to be ousted for the sponsorship scandal, but it's a shame they've been out for so long. The Conservatives are not doing a very good job. One thing I'll say for Paul Martin - he knew how to run a budget. Even funneling money...aaah, I won't go there.
The Liberals were fiscally responsible. I think had they managed to stay in power and have authority Canada would be better off today. - bixby1, on 06/28/2008, -3/+19Canadians and Americans are both worried about higher energy costs and job loss, it's a continental issue. damn.
- Ryan166, on 06/29/2008, -0/+12who?
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -7/+17A folding U.S. economy along with NAFTA can spell disaster unless the Canadians start decoupling trade with the U.S.
- simplistics06, on 06/29/2008, -0/+10Don't forget about the American DMCA *****.
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 06/29/2008, -1/+9The Conservatives have the worst fiscal record when considering debt vs surplus of any of the three parties, both federally and provincially... the NDP oddly have the best record. People just assume that the Right will save money and the Left give handouts and run up debt, the reality surprises many.
In Ontario the NDP were running a surplus, after coming in with a debt, they left with a surplus, then Harris (neo-con Conservative) came in and ran up debt again, he left and McGuinty is now running a surplus again.
In this time of fiscal uncertainty, we need a centrist of leftist government in power, the neo-cons just don't know how to run an economy. - marmotman, on 06/29/2008, -0/+8"49 per cent said it[Canada] is headed in a good direction." disturbing considering the fact that we are still in Afghanistan, weed is still illegal, environment still getting raped, no efficient electric cars (yet. but I wont hold my breath), prices for EVERYTHING are up education system sucks absolute balls (I thank the flying spaghetti monster i'm almost out of it), it took the govn't 50 years to apologizing for destroying a culture, the wall between rich and poor is getting worse, we have about four people in all the govn't that actually care about anything other than money oh ya and Harper still won't pull Bushes dick out of his mouth..... ***** can't wait till next election
- rileyhallwood, on 06/29/2008, -0/+7your 51th state? really? 51TH?
- Gustavo, on 06/29/2008, -1/+5Perhaps because Canadians are American TOO? Or you think that "America" is just your country?
- rootsm3, on 06/29/2008, -0/+4I don't wanna see the Canucks cry.
- curtisag, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3Neo-cons are not true conservatives. There is nothing conservative about their philosophy as you are quite aware of now. The neo-con philosophy was developed by ex-socialists.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoconservative - Seidoger, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3Hehehe. Damn them for stealing the continental name for their own country.
- Sagags, on 06/29/2008, -3/+6what you say is true, but sadly digg is full of idiots
- paigeinphilly, on 06/29/2008, -1/+4Im currently visiting Canada...and I will say...they are living better than we are in the US period. although we share the same landspace, the cultures are very very different. In the US we are all quite competetive and will sacrifice quality over quanity...we overspend...if you cant afford it?..put it on plastic!, thus acumulating nothing but high DEBT...we take less vacations...work harder and longer hours...always wanting to keep up with the damn joneses..have less sex....are more overweight..have crap health insurance (even if you pay top dollar, you still have to pay out of pocket)..public education system is just a mess..we are conditioned to think that we are the "best of the best" & carry that view worldwide (whereas in reality we could use some more lessons)...whereas the canadians are pretty much the opposite...its sucks but its true.
i love my country despite the craziness & dysfunctional system because there are some great people living there...and if enough of us decide to stand up and be counted and create a way to work smarter not harder approach...wow...just wow.
Obama 08 - Seidoger, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2.. is an alright beer, i guess.
- Farik, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2Hell, the stock of the company I work for (which I have shares in) went down 27% since the American market has been dropping.
- marmotman, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2I never said that weed being legalized was on par with everything else, I'm just saying that our laws are just a repetition of our morals and if something like 25 percent of Canadians are using pot then it sounds like it is time to rewrite them. And I do think that our school system is in the can, it only works for a lucky few, leaving many behind and some held down from their true potential. I think that Canada has it's downfalls, most of them could be fixed if people were more willing to change. As Canadians we think we are better than the US, but really we're just the same(well kind of). But I do agree with you on most of your points, we do live in a great country, living in actual houses, having food cars and money, not living in fear, not constantly under attack, not being detained for being suspicious(unless your name is Maher Arar), not being monitored and yeah our beer is awesome.
By the way I hope you reply, I enjoy this exchange of thoughts.
- akamurph, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2I hate up-tight morons like yourself. Go to any friggin country in the world and ask them when they hear the word "Americans", what country do they think of? You have the typical Candian-US inferiority complex.
- marx2k, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2Well, considering that due to recent governmental changes in Canada, Canada is turning into America (policy-wise), this is not surprising.
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2There's is so much hate in this world it really destroys it =(
- ShyGuy91284, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2If only I had creativity I'd do a brief re-write of the "Blame Canada!" song from South Park for America....
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -4/+6There is other countries besides America!? HOLY CRAP!
- Sagags, on 06/29/2008, -2/+3its a world problem, not a American/Canadian problem
- PatrickFisher, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1And in Alberta, the Conservatives wiped out the debt completely.
Huh. Funny how you can find an example of anything anywhere.
Besides, provincial politics is very different from federal. - Dustmuffins, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Those poor people in the south with all the drugs.
- paigeinphilly, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1don't hate on the truth....you can be jealous of it though.
- Thrilltone, on 06/29/2008, -1/+2We're learning that the Mideast is too distant for us to effectively commandeer their oil.
Canada, all your oil sand belong to us.
(you're next, Venezuela) - diggimator, on 06/29/2008, -1/+2The US is terrorizing other nations of the world economically with its subprime loan crisis.
- atarijedi, on 06/29/2008, -4/+5Not quite, they never asked Mexico or the Central American countries.
- aenegeling, on 06/29/2008, -1/+1Please excuse my ignorance about economics in general.. But why are things getting so bad over there? Can someone put it in lamen terms for me?
- mrbrianxyz, on 06/29/2008, -2/+2***** jobs!
- halfabean, on 06/29/2008, -1/+1yeah, whats wrong with fiftyoneth state?
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -2/+2China will come and buy up Canadian and U.S. assets. China = POWER!!!!!!!!!!
- moosepile, on 06/29/2008, -1/+1What's really sad is where the world is heading. Fortress North America, here we come.
It's a great, and revealing, article though. It shows how different much of our populations think. Too bad it'll all come down to us (lower case) vs. China in the next 50 years.
China: "Hey, Canada/USA, we want our money back."
The answer will unfortunately be "come and try git it." Because we don't FRIGGIN HAVE IT. Hence, WW3. - arobicha, on 06/29/2008, -0/+0No, in other words, "Be the change you want to see in the world" (which is potentially less original... but who said it has to be?). This is not a Boolean switch people, but don't have the right to complain if you sit there sucking down spoiled milk, and bitching about every minute of it. Life is a bitch, and you'll have to sacrifice more than unity for every gain you make. I really don't think he's come to see how great a country Canada REALLY is.
Considering the absolute horse-***** I've seen come from the US and UK recently, you have to realize that while not perfect, there are many things that Canada does much better than others, and there are countries that do some things better than Canada still... But nobody has it perfect, and you DO have to live somewhere, regardless of whether or not you agree with what that country does. So either try to fix things, or find a place that you DO agree with (which hopefully also pays your health care, supports you if you lose your job, allows you retirement, protects you from a corrupt police force, won't kill you in your sleep for dissent, doesn't monitor everything you do, doesn't strip freedoms from you left and right... the list goes on) and move there. - inactive, on 06/29/2008, -0/+0O.K
Millions of hard working Mexican men and women getting paid half of what a legal citizen get, busting their ass.Taking jobs that young American are to spoiled and lazy to do.
Tens of thousands of their children going to American public schools to better the next generation adding to the cultural diversity of this great nation.
Tens of thousands of Mexican criminal bad Apples in no way reflect the hard working family oriented religiously observant men and women of Mexico now residing in America
O.K
I'm now officially politically correct
Obama 08 - inactive, on 06/29/2008, -1/+1Bring on 10 dollars a gallon, then maybe pregnate teens will stop driving their Yukons!
- marx2k, on 06/29/2008, -0/+0So, in other words... Love It Or Leave It? Original
- paigeinphilly, on 06/29/2008, -2/+2no, they have us....
think about that one. (Befor you go painting every Mexican as a criminal or a leech)
Obama 08 - LastVisibleDog, on 06/30/2008, -1/+1crack smoking and economics don't mix
- LastVisibleDog, on 06/30/2008, -2/+1The inflation rate is currently around 4% - crack smoking and economics don't mix. The last time we had 17% inflation was the bad old days of Carter - Obama is Carter II so we may be looking at 17% inflation in the near future.
- bxblox, on 06/29/2008, -6/+5
And they should. We Americans like to have ***** and are currently unable to replenish our ***** stock. If we see you over there enjoying ***** we're gonna pay you a visit. - 1ncu3us, on 06/29/2008, -2/+1By fearing it, you're helping it happen .. don't fear anything .. love, and we'll change this world into a physical paradise
but don't take my word for it, all the information you need to understand that we are all ONE (consciousness) and that we are all moving toward ultimate love is all over the internet.. you just have to want it (and be able to work google :P ) - curtisag, on 06/29/2008, -2/+1No we'll just devalue our currency till we can pay the debt like all good 3rd world countries do. And it would be foolish to fight a world war over debt payments, since it would cost a lot more in massive damage and death. And lets say China wins in the end, who will be alive to pay them back? Look how much it costs just for the Iraq war.
- lead2thehead, on 06/29/2008, -1/+0We can thank the media for that. They sensationalize every story and exaggerate every problem to ludicrous levels just to get ratings. If you buy into their BS, you'll get anxious and depressed pretty quickly.
- LucianSolaris, on 06/29/2008, -4/+2yea we're screwed.
the inflation we're experiencing right now isn't even enough to skew the dow upward! the dow is falling in the face of 17% inflation!
get into commodities and precious metals, 'cause I think the FED will try to fight the flight to bonds and try to keep equities pumped, but unintentionally cause a run to commodities/PMs instead! -
