- FuryOfThor, on 07/03/2008, -0/+10First, take on Lyme Disease. Next, the Queen.
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 07/03/2008, -1/+9Dugg you to help you do it.
- topoisomerase, on 07/04/2008, -1/+9get the word out, folks. Lyme disease sucks. i just finished my 21-day course of antibiotics to rid me of that pestilence. w00t.
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/04/2008, -0/+6"Microbiologists at the University of Calgary have been able to create a fluorescent strain of the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and observe its movement in mice."
Lets hope this bacteria does not get reintroduced back into the environment. That would be just too weird if there was a glowing microscopic pathogen out there.
Of course for that to occur, a researcher would have to be bitten by a tick. Then a "free" tick, mosquito, or something similar would have to bite him.
That could never happen. - turnipradish, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6Yeah, I heard about that, but from what I have read, it's just a bunch of conspiracy ***** from some different independent news sources. Anybody who has actually read over the bill would find it's basically an act forcing health supplements and such to play by the same rules as every other type of food (ie, warn customers of potential risks, be accountable for false claims, etc etc). It's actually a pretty well laid out act from what I can tell.

- Ellipsys, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6For your own safety, please please please read up at www.ilads.org and www.lymenet.org If you caught the disease very early (had the bullseye rash), you might be okay and able to eradicate it. However, if you feel yourself getting sicker go IMMEDIATELY to a doctor who is willing to put you on prolonged antibiotic therapy. 21 days does not work for everyone. There is no such thing as "Post lyme syndrome". Educate yourself on the disease, and possible coinfections.
- outlaw686, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6You lost all credibility when you said Canadians have a congress.
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -0/+5thumbs up for helping
- Barbarino, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4Ive had it since 88, it's been a rough ride, I deal with it every minute of my life but eventually it becomes normal and you get over it. You'll always be screwed up, but it could be worse, much worse. I never complain, most people don't know I have it because I've found when I explain my symptoms they all think I'm nuts.
- MadOgre, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4I caught this 16 years ago. They didn't even know what it was back then. The effects of it being untreated for so long will never get any better for me. Now we know. I really seriously hope no one else gets this *****.
- NumNutz, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3i got bitten by a tick and got infected with lyme disease and babesia when i was 20, went to 12 different doctors (infectious disease specialists, ear nose specialist, rheumatologists, neurologists, etc...). i told them all i had a rash, flu like symptoms, joint pain, neuro symptoms and well, they couldnt figure it out. i didnt get diagnosed with lyme disease til after 3 years of being infected, and i was on high dosages of antibiotics for 3 years.........its now 8 years later and i still havent recover from that damn tick bite. so becareful out there. ticks can give you more than just lyme disease
- oddturtle, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3It's ahboot time.
- kbattack, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3consider that if you ever get diabetes.
"The Nobel Prize committee in 1923 credited the practical extraction of insulin to a team at the University of Toronto and awarded the Nobel Prize to two men; Frederick Banting and J.J.R. Macleod. They were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1923 for the discovery of insulin. Banting, insulted that Best was not mentioned, shared his prize with Best, and Macleod immediately shared his with Collip. The patent for insulin was sold to the University of Toronto for one dollar." - Wiki - unorginalityftw, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3It is "Canadian Bacon"--- regular bacon is still bacon. And besides that it is damn delicious.
- Spudster, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Too bad we have a Parliament eh?
- Genthree, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Why did they need to mention the fact that they were Canadians? When most breakthroughs occur they just say "researchers illustrate lyme disease bacterium". Sometimes I think Canadians have a bit of a small man complex.
- thesonofdarwin, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3Unfortunately for the Canadians then, Vitamin C can't be found in many natural food sources.
Oh wait... - Typhoon2009, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Yep, ticks are totally related to iPhones.
- shawnanigans, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2I'm going to guess multiple tabs were open. But I will still make fun of him.
You're stupid sir, and iPhones are over-rated and what's wrong with acting homeless. I like to wipe my ass with newspaper, gives the rapists something to read. - wonkavsn, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2You can modify an organism's genome so that it codes for a fluorescent protein (an example is called GFP).
Upon introduction to a host, this bacteria's path can be observed as it moves through the body since the organism is now "fluorescent"
This may provide insight into new treatments.
Now gimme. - ghuytro, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Dude we call that ***** 'peameal bacon' and the only time anyone really eats it is when you order a regular mcmuffin
can someone explain to me what 'american cheese' is? - wonkavsn, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2A-friggin-men
- shawnanigans, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2***** you, I was ALL of bacteria to glow like the sun. I want my life to be like a Lysol commercial.
- shawnanigans, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1And hockey. And football was invented in matches between Canadian and American universities, so thats like 2.5 of the big sports and 1.5 of the good sports (hockey and football.)
- DroolingSheep, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1You haven't been studying enough biology from movies. EVERYTHING can mutate to become extremely transmissible and virulent over very short timescales.
- patch6, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1You can grow limes in Canada.
- Dan005, on 07/03/2008, -2/+3First person to explain what this means to me gets a cookie!
- MadOgre, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1When I had some surgery they asked me my medical history and a doctor who knows his ***** put two and two together and it came out Lymes.
- Saiyanz, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2darn no link to video....curse my short attention span
- unfinite, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2You beat me to it, but as already said, you missed stuff. Also, you spelled spirochete wrong.
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1pshh... yeah ! at MY university.
***** that.
power went out the other day, and I never got their emergency SMS that they should send out... even though they had emergency crews going around checking for gas leaks, infectious strains, etc.
>__> - jason4188, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1You said it, hoeser.
- patch6, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1How were you finally diagnosed?
- glowfood, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1I've had it since 91. I've had various treatments over the years, but not much progress. You're right, you get used to it.
Oh and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxWgS0XLVqw - TheSevenDuffs, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Well I can't excuse myself for my first gaffe.
- Haoie, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1You forgot "Kevin's biting me, come back soon."
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1The figures are wrong... I live on the Canadian border, it's on the news constantly warning to wear long pants and *****. Perhaps there are more "old" cases of Lyme disease and it just spreads faster in the U.S. these days since there's less awareness of it there.
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1it would make sense for them to do it since it afflicts them more than americans (more wood ticks)
- jepizacar, on 08/04/2008, -1/+1nice resource....
