- StigNordas, on 06/13/2009, -2/+53I love seeing these large-format photo blogs from the papers. Did Boston set the standard?
- professorfurley, on 06/15/2009, -1/+46dugg for being on one page
- DavidNiven, on 06/14/2009, -6/+29Excellent photos. Gives you a much different (and accurate) perspective of reality in Afghanistan than one gets simply reading the trash news in print...or listening to whiners here in Digg.
- Jimbob200, on 06/15/2009, -2/+16One of the marines at the bottom is reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, it's a book about Afghanistan. I got my mom that one for Christmas, said it was great!
- DouglasQ, on 06/15/2009, -6/+18They really hate the rich kid camp across the lake.
- dengzhi, on 06/15/2009, -1/+11who is still on 56k these days?
- deathfix, on 06/15/2009, -0/+8I don't know, but I did think this was from the Boston Globe website at first glance.
- itsbob, on 06/15/2009, -7/+13What an awful place, god bless you guys and gals for being there.
- ShoeString73, on 06/15/2009, -11/+17To all of the Marines who have fallen in combat and the ones currently protecting this great country i say "Oorah!" and may you come home safe and soon and may God bless and protect ALL of our men and women in uniform.
"God has a hard-on for Marines because we kill everything we see! He plays His games, we play ours! To show our appreciation for so much power, we keep heaven packed with fresh souls! God was here before the Marine Corps! So you can give your heart to Jesus, but your ass belongs to the Corps! Do you ladies understand? " - Gunnery Sergeant Hartman - inigomntoya, on 06/15/2009, -2/+8That or the landscape is very monotonous...
"A soldier walks through sand..." - kalosnycta, on 06/15/2009, -1/+6They did. Somalia.
- doughboy334, on 06/15/2009, -1/+6good thing these guys are Marines then.
- Red1Delta, on 06/15/2009, -1/+6You should of seen what I got your mom for Christmas.
- Sanfranon5, on 06/15/2009, -2/+6We need to kill terrorists until we strike terror in the heart of anyone striking terror in the heart of anyone.
When even we are so terrified of ourselves that we would never dream of terrifying anyone; that is when we know we have won the war on terror! - GeekNurse, on 06/15/2009, -1/+5Cool story, Bro.
- govtdoesnotwork, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3But the "they" is spending-happy politicians, not the soldiers screwed by their policies.
- BabyWookie, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3What the ***** are you even talking about? What different perspective? Are we looking at the same photos? All I see are a bunch of dirty, tired soldiers in a dirty, sandy, tired *****-hole. Same ***** I've been seeing since the Soviets were there in the 80's. ***** depressing stuff.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -1/+4Get your story straight, numbnuts. I keep asking the question, "Why are we in Afghanistan?" No one has a good answer. A few without Internet respond, "To get Osama." But everyone agrees that he is somewhere in Pakistan. Then the answer is: "As President George W. Bush said, 'to spread democracy.'" The Brits tried to spread democracy for years. The Russians tried to spread communism for years. But democracy must come from within. Muslim or not, you can't bomb people into "Democracy"!
CRYING is the same in every language AND KILLING INNOCENTS CREATES MORE BOMBERS, NOT LESS
FOR EVERY ONE MUSLIM YOU KILL WITH YOUR LIES, 20 OF HIS CLAN PROMISE TO TAKE UP ARMS FOR HIM/HER.
How is that making America safer?!
The question, again, "Why are we in Afghanistan?".
Come up with a consistent answer please. You only look like an idiot when your answers are all over the place. - Ruger11mcrdpi, on 06/15/2009, -4/+7Hawaii Marines! Semper Fi, guys, ya'll be safe and get back to the island in one piece. Great pics.
- GeekNurse, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3You're probably being dug down for the use of the word 'epic'
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -2/+5Afghans worldwide are offended by your slander. How dare you call their ancestral home an awful place.
May the litigation begin! - FAT_PIGGY, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3They are Marines.
- bilbus, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3"Hoo aahh" is army
"Oooh-Rah" marines - MavRevMatt, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3Boston was the first (and until now) only place I've seen the large-format photos blog used. They seem to have set the standard.
- zmigliozzi, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3Like Afghanistan who stood up against Gengkhis Khan, the Brits three times, and the Russians twice. There are probably a couple more I'm missing, but Afghanistan is one of the most resilient countries with some of the most resilient people on this planet.
- sipsyrup, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3Time for a raid!! Take their pudding and cake!
- NCSD, on 06/15/2009, -3/+6I'll be rich when I invent a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet
- Xviper78, on 06/15/2009, -3/+6GO ***** YOURSELF!!
gently
with a chainsaw - cJw314, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3I think so, actually.
Hell, they're not even that similar. - inactive, on 06/15/2009, -2/+5Pleast just SHUT UP!!! We succeeded in Iraq, yeah right. The kind of success we had in Vietnam right?
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2There's no oil in Afghanistan. Guess they will have to keep on marching.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -1/+3Better get used to it because NATO is there to stay.
- JebBlack, on 06/15/2009, -1/+3I'm an american and i got this cool thing called "free speech" and i never use that right to bash anyone, it is strictly used to get my point of view across so with that i'd like to say "Bring our soldiers home Obama you lying snake in the grass"
- schnikies79, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Me when I'm home. Broadband isn't available and no 3G service.
- harpoonhank420, on 06/15/2009, -1/+3 i donno i thought we were doing pretty decent in Iraq now, not a success but i mean 5 years ago what we have now would have been a dream no?
- BotchaMcCoola, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Good luck if one of those wasteful goombas ever wants a job or loan from me.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -3/+5You're joking, right?.
Saudi Arabia is governed by Sharia law.
I don't know how you can get any more "extreme" than that. - UNCsucks, on 06/15/2009, -3/+5Who is the sick bastard that dugg this guy up?
- Canadian0207, on 06/15/2009, -1/+3hell yeah! i remember that monologue!
- Frezzle, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2You really scared me for a min there.
- DouglasQ, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Yeah but like I say, it doesn't seem like he did it consciously. These are just bad photographs (for the most part)
- pathouston22, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Because then the world would hate us for trying to "help"
- cJw314, on 06/15/2009, -2/+4Good times!
No, srsly, serious props to all the servicepeople sacrificing their times and years of their lives - if not their lives themselves - on our behalf. Hats off. - GeekNurse, on 06/15/2009, -1/+3What's 56k? I'm connecting to the internet on my 300 baud acoustic coupler modem.
- superbobd, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2? Not funny.
- TheCheeks, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2I'm pretty sure there's more than one picture of a military personnel walking in a sandstorm out there.
- zmigliozzi, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Showing a presence the first step of winning a psychological battle. Most of what those marines are doing right now is humanitarian efforts, distributing humanitarian rations and looks to be clearing some mine fields.
- Turbojugend27, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1and another uneducated Digger thinking they actually have a clue on what they are commenting on. So ***** sad.
- cygnus2112, on 06/15/2009, -3/+4Peacekeeping until the Afghan army is big and strong enough to reliably protect Afghanistan/the new democratic government from the Taliban/extremists.
