- bennny, on 03/19/2009, -12/+75There has been no proof that I have seen, the Mexican Government has not released any serial numbers of these weapons.
And I would not be surprised if they are American made, Sold to the Mexican army and then sold to the cartels on the black market either way they did not get the weapons legally.
notice I said weapons because the weapons they are using are not the guns that we can legally buy here. - sultanknish, on 03/18/2009, -32/+81Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that Mexican drugs fuel US violence?
- trythison4sighs, on 03/19/2009, -9/+49These Mexican Drug Cartels get their weapons illegally. To stop a law abiding US citizen from owning a firearm would not/will not stop them from obtaining guns. Haven't you ever seen the videos? Most of their assault weapons are AK-47's which are of either Russian or Chinese make.
Honestly, this is just another "Crisis" the Obama Administration can't let go to waste, period.
I'm just waiting to hear, "Think of the Children!"
I hear it every time a Politician wants to tug at my heart string to get me to do something I know is the wrong thing to do... no matter how good it may make me feel. - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -32/+63It wouldn't surprise me if US guns were being used. Guns are one of the few items the US still manufactures and does so at high standards.
However, the guns us serfs are allowed to buy are most certainly NOT the ones heading south of the border. The ones heading south are fully auto and are probably being traded for drugs by the CIA. This is laughable at best.
Keep it up DC, you've seen what happens when you come for our weapons. You look for new jobs after your next election cycle. You sure as hell don't want to see option B invoked. - Vriess, on 03/19/2009, -5/+36U.S money fuels drug wars, the guns could be procured from other sources. As long as Americans want drugs there will be a fight to control who gets the money. Until Americans are ready to come to terms with the reality of drugs we will be ripping countries apart with our own ignorance.
- C0MF0RTABLYnumb, on 03/19/2009, -6/+31Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that American drug users are the problem? Which is a good reason to legalize Marijuana. If it is grown here, there would be no need to buy it from Mexican mafia.
- Titan615, on 03/19/2009, -3/+27Yeah as much as I would love to have "missile launchers and grenades" its impossible to get liscensing for them. You basically either have to be a military contractor to get them. There is no way Mexicans are getting them "over the counter".
Also I'd bet my next paycheck that the 90% of the weapons they are getting are like Bennny said or they're from other Central American governments.
//Every day I find more reasons why not to read CNN.... - kolobcreek, on 03/19/2009, -10/+34HELLO THEY'RE DRUG LORDS. They're not going to stop getting the highest quality US weapons because their illegal in the US. You're a ***** idiot if you think banning guns in the US is going to stop Mexicans from getting them.
Why don't we start first by banning Illegal Aliens. I bet that would cut down on the drug trade and the flow of guns to Mexico.
Shouldn't we first enforce the laws on the books before we make new ones? - mrcleaver, on 03/19/2009, -1/+25I'm not a fan of gun ownership but let's face it: Mexican drug runners are not purchasing RPG's and grenades from gun shows.
It's true that the mexican drug war is fueled by american demand for drugs, but the whole american guns is giving drug dealers the edge against law enforcement is *****. - rwac, on 03/19/2009, -3/+24More specifically American Drug Prohibition is the problem.
- ricoboy24, on 03/19/2009, -3/+22Guns don't choose to be violent. Violent people with guns choose to be violent.
- Zervaman, on 03/19/2009, -0/+18Considering the fact that the cartels love to use hand grenades in their attacks, I'd say NO. They obviously have other sources.
- richmomz, on 03/19/2009, -1/+16Seriously, does anyone HONESTLY think that the Mexican drug gangs are getting their rocket launchers and grenades LEGALLY in the U.S.? I mean, these guys smuggle millions of dollars of banned substances into every corner of the Earth - would it be any trouble for them to trade their drugs for weapons and smuggle them back into the country? Simply suggesting that they're getting their high powered machine guns and bazookas from American gun shows is so absurd it's laughable, the Mexican government refuses to release any serial numbers to back up their claims (obviously because it's *****), and yet the media keeps repeating it like we're all ***** retarded. Do they really think anyone is going to believe this ***** and demand an assault weapons ban?
- richmomz, on 03/19/2009, -1/+14Exactly - either there's some intellectual dishonesty going on with the media here, or I haven't been going to the right gun shows...
- ryrocker, on 03/19/2009, -3/+16ugh
please
just this once....
as a fellow reaganeer...
im begging you
stop playing the victim
really
plz
they are just using this as a scapegoat to ban guns
if it werent for the drug rings theyd blame something else - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+12I opened the digg front page and saw the following:
The 2009 National Douchebag Tournament
CNN Parrots Mexican Claims that U.S. Guns Fuel Drug Wars
Makes perfect sense to me. - psopopo, on 03/19/2009, -1/+13If these cartel's are breaking international law by making and distributing illegal substances then why should they go through all the hassle of getting weapons in the USA? South American countries have PLENTY of weapons for much cheaper.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+11war on drugs fuels drug wars.
- richmomz, on 03/19/2009, -0/+11Not only that, but how the hell did they LEGALLY PURCHASE said machine gun as the media keeps claiming?
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -1/+11Wouldn't it be MOST accurate to say that prohibition (whether of guns OR drugs) fuels violence on BOTH sides of the border?
- heynow21, on 03/19/2009, -1/+11When is the NRA going to get behind marijuana legalization? It would certainly help their cause.
- alamedaman, on 03/19/2009, -1/+11illegal drugs-> more money -> more ability to buy guns
the problem is that drugs are illegal, not that guns are plentiful. - Samueul, on 03/19/2009, -2/+12Um no.. It's very easy to take a gun and make it full auto and have it be an unreliable piece of *****... These guys have gold plated weapons.. They ain't skimping on the functionality to save a buck etc...
- b0ltacti0n, on 03/19/2009, -1/+10Lou Dobbs is married to a woman of Mexican heritage. http://www.conservapedia.com/Lou_Dobbs . Yeah he really "hates (fears) Mexicans" that's why he married one. Who's the xenophobic asshat?
- Blisshead, on 03/19/2009, -0/+9...because the get them from the Mexican army, hence the "no thanks" with releasing the SN's.
- manjas8, on 03/19/2009, -3/+12I don't give a ***** if the guns come from the US.
I refuse to give up any part of my rights because some Mexicans criminals are killing each other. - scoottie, on 03/19/2009, -0/+9funny things is the USA sold a bunch of 50 cals and assault rifles to the Mexican army in the 90's and for some reason the Mexican government if refusing to let the USA check the serial numbers of the guns they have confiscated so that we can see where they came from.
- ELblackSHEEP, on 03/19/2009, -6/+15Can we like... move the National guard down there already!Guarding our Nation is their primary reason for existing right?!
- schmitey, on 03/19/2009, -6/+15Buying an AR-15 soon as I get the money... Thanks to all the 2nd amendment idiocracy swarming around its truly now or never again.
- IsraGeek, on 03/19/2009, -1/+10I'm under the impression that drugs fuel drug wars.
- guairdean, on 03/19/2009, -3/+11If the Mexican drug lords can't get guns in Mexico because they're illegal, why don't they make drugs illegal so they can't get those either? That way they'll be completely out of business.
- laminac, on 03/19/2009, -3/+11this is a great video explaining what really an assault weapon is regardless of what the media would have you believe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbIIjIFKYYg - richmomz, on 03/19/2009, -1/+9Obviously everyone knows that's where these weapons are really coming from, but apparently the government/media thinks we're all ***** retarded and can scare us into giving up our guns by conjuring up some ***** story about Mexican drug lords LEGALLY purchasing RPGs and grenades from our gun shows...
- ForumDriv, on 03/19/2009, -10/+18CNN has an hour-long anti-Mexico infomercial every night hosted by Leprosy Lou Dobbs. And conservatives are complaining? What, you want two hours?
- Wholekernalcorn, on 03/19/2009, -3/+11Are US made knives being used to cut off Mexican heads?
- pookydirt, on 03/18/2009, -35/+42To the CNN anchor...
Why can't we plug up the holes in your head? (And pop another plug into your mouth while we're at it.) - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+7If they did the purchase in the USA, they paid a ***** more than they'd have paid on the open, free, world market, but if you've got the money and you're willing to go through the ATF's rectal examination & pay a $200 tax on top,
http://www.subguns.com/classifieds/index.cgi?db=nf ...
and others would be happy to sell you, LEGALLY, a .50 caliber machine gun. But there's no way the Mexican army would pay such a stupid price to remove a transferrable MG from the USA when they can get the same gun for $1000s less. - wrestlingnrj, on 03/19/2009, -0/+7Unfortunately most people are idiots and believe whatever the media tells them.
- anthropodeus, on 03/19/2009, -4/+11and, more importantly, the other way around
- b0ltacti0n, on 03/19/2009, -3/+10Lou Dobbs is married to a woman of Mexican heritage. http://www.conservapedia.com/Lou_Dobbs . Yeah he really "hates (fears) Mexicans" that's why he married one. Who's the xenophobic asshat?
- dmightx, on 03/19/2009, -3/+10Then you could say that US consumerism fuels foreign countries' violence.
- Harboggles, on 03/19/2009, -2/+9I think the government is intentionally painting guns as bad.....
- drmobutu, on 03/19/2009, -0/+6Good one...
- wrestlingnrj, on 03/19/2009, -0/+6Best thing to do is buy a lower as soon as possible. I just recently finished my first AR-15, but I've been looking for another lower for a couple months now; the one I want has been out of stock everywhere. Obama deserves Gun Salesman of the Year.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -2/+8I dugg this, but I always need to add the unvarnished truth both Democrats & Republicans will hate. Gun prohibition does not work any better than drug prohibition. Both are expensive failures, and I don't look at NB regularly anymore, but certain parties must be growing ever more hysterical over the possible end of their beloved, impotent, tax & spend drugwar.
Both prohibitions -- guns & drugs -- have their roots in hysteria and big-government RACISM, and those who try to deny the historical racism seem to also have race-problems in the present, in my experience. Prohibition does not work for substances or firearms because government does not work. The sooner political partisans learn that lesson, the better off we'll be. - chesterogilvie, on 03/19/2009, -1/+7Being against open borders does not make you a racist.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -2/+8While I don't dispute that point, remember that Mexico also brings us wonderful stuff like cocaine, heroin, and high quality crystal meth. They've branched out in recent years after getting fat off of marijuana sales.
- TheInformer, on 03/19/2009, -10/+16This isn't surprising. CNN is part of the "Hate America First" club along with charter members CBS, NBC, CNBC, NPR, MSNBC, Huffingtonpost, Dailykos, Pravda.ru, and the like.
In their world, the United States is the cause of each and every bad, evil, and destructive behavior in the world.
In their world, dictators such as Castro, Kim Jong il, Arafat, and the like are good and must be cozied with, while the United States is bad. - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+6That reality is that prohibition hasn't worked, but a free market would.
- Serenikill, on 03/19/2009, -0/+5The answer then is to legalize drugs. I'm just making the next rational step in your argument.
