- SavageBlackCat, on 12/27/2007, -4/+134Certainly, as we all know Digg to be the vestibule for vetting classified intelligence information.
- pintomp3, on 12/27/2007, -4/+109less talk, more take down.
- MacGeekGuy, on 12/27/2007, -10/+96I sure hope he's hired some elite bodyguards... cos I doubt the administration takes very kindly to such claims.
- lhbaker, on 12/27/2007, -11/+89We like shiny things. Guns for instance. Shiny, smoking guns.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 12/27/2007, -14/+86http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRESS_TV
PRESS TV is an English language international television news channel which is funded by the Iranian government, based in Tehran and broadcasts in English on a round-the-clock schedule. - pintomp3, on 12/27/2007, -9/+76they ran the iraq wmd stories and it's al-queda connections front and center, how much "real validity" did that have? if you don't see the connections between corporate media and the embedded power structure you are deluding yourself.
- bowens44, on 12/27/2007, -12/+74I am amazed that there are still people stupid enough or stubborn enough to oppose impeachment of the worst president this country has ever had. I suggest you stick your head back in the sand and go to sleep.
- Nougat, on 12/27/2007, -2/+41"Old media?" It's the new "infotainment" media that's the problem. I *wish* there was some old media still around.
- HalfGiraffe, on 12/27/2007, -4/+35Another source (since folks don't like the Iranian news service) http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and ...
- thecrazyd, on 12/27/2007, -1/+30How does invading a country not even tangentially related to a country that did a non-government sponsored terrorist attack constitute standing up for the country?
- starkruzr, on 12/27/2007, -7/+36"The wrath of the left?" Yeah, because "the left" can throw you in jail, shoot you, kill your family, or do ANYTHING AT ALL other than make you look bad in the press.
Get a ***** grip, you fascist twit. - wild, on 12/27/2007, -75/+103Ever notice that Digg is full of headlines like "impeachment" and "take the WH down" but as fascinating and interesting as they are, nothing ever comes of them? Seriously, this is the kind of stuff MSNBC and CNN are waiting for. Don't you think they would run it front and center if it had any real validity? (And don't give me your "old media" bs either. I am too old and too smart to fall for conspiracy crap.)
- gernblansted, on 12/27/2007, -3/+30"Don't you think they would run it front and center if it had any real validity?"
Nope. It might damage the profits of their corporate masters. About as far is any of them will go is letting Kieth Olbermann rant, because it makes them money. Once Olbermann starts interfering with business as usual, he will be restrained. Corporations have never had such sweet access to the levers of power as they enjoy now, and they aren't going to give that up so some "newscast" of theirs can improve it's ratings, especially since they can just broadcast infotainment and still get ratings. - williamdyer, on 12/27/2007, -1/+26Our Constitution applies to our government, not to individuals. It tells our government what it is allowed to do.
Rights are inherent and universal. No constitution can grant them, and no government can legitimately make your rights different from another human's. The U.S. Constitution was written within that conceptual framework. - jaymzdean, on 12/27/2007, -6/+30Americans who openly condone torture are enemies of the Constitution and should be considered as criminals, arrested and tried for treason. The only good fascist is a dead fascist.
- plizard, on 12/27/2007, -5/+29This just in, "CIA man dies in freak car crash. Brakes weren't functional."
- lhbaker, on 12/27/2007, -8/+31The question is out of context. The question should be 'would you throw away the Constitution of the United States in order to save them?'
- Albionshores, on 12/27/2007, -14/+36Torture is wrong. Anything that can be said before or after that does not change a thing.
Go ahead and pose a million hypotheticals, conundrums and what-ifs to justify why it should at least be kept on a shelf in case of an emergency.....but at the end of it all 'torture is wrong'. It is not a difficult concept. People like to provide people with two options when corralling opinion; the 'lesser of two evils' argument. Why should anyone allow themselves into such a fabricated quandary? Refusing to choose (a third choice!) between two evils is no evil :)
There is no flip,
There is no flop.
For every nightmare used to justify torture's place on the shelf,
"Torture is wrong."
Ironically the country that does not try to justify torture is the country least likely to 'need' it. - gernblansted, on 12/27/2007, -0/+22It's highly likely that if he can 'take the White House down' then he was at least tangentally involved in illegal activity. If he asks for immunity, it's almost certain. 'Real Men' don't like to go to prison either.
- mtjohnson, on 12/27/2007, -2/+23I know you think Rush Limbaugh is telling you the truth, but he really isn't.
- mtjohnson, on 12/27/2007, -1/+21Really? And which administration would you say was worse?
- Dugout21, on 12/27/2007, -2/+21Because real men like going to jail.
- EricSchC1, on 12/27/2007, -0/+19Anyone who says he should "Put up or shut up" or something to that effect, obviously has no idea how much that guy's life is already in danger just from being willing to come forward. If you don't think that guy's got good reason to be looking over his own shoulder from now until the day he dies, you've gotta be pretty obtuse or naive.
- Nougat, on 12/27/2007, -1/+20Carter was somewhat ineffective in a difficult economic period. It could be said that any president during that time would have been ineffective.
But Carter was honest. Remember when the commandos tried to free the hostages in Tehran and failed? Carter was the first person in front of the press, saying, "I did this. This was by my order, and I take full responsibility."
Beyond that, Carter has become a highly influential diplomat in the years after his presidency. I don't know of any other living president who's done as much diplomatically as Carter. - charlietuna, on 12/27/2007, -2/+20Just checked this guys commenting history. He refers to welfare recipients as "broodmares" and favorited an article disputing the human origins of global warming.
I'll let the facts speak for themselves regarding his record. Take it for what it's worth. - mikelieman, on 12/27/2007, -4/+22If *THE RESULT* is so important, why aren't those who CHOOSE to break US LAW and torture prisoners, surrendering themselves for trial and prison?
You would think that someone so intent on PRESERVING the Republic would be glad to submit to Due Process and rely on Equal Protection of The Law to atone for their crimes. - christor, on 12/27/2007, -1/+19This is what passes for analysis on the right? Carter - bad. Bush I - benign. Clinton - took an economic expansion that arose in spite of his presidency and somehow managed to ruin it just in time for the next president to take over. Also, failed to "defend America." Bush II - "stood up for the country."
Why don't you try reading some news or ... anything. (But I'd start with at least reports about the findings of the 9/11 commission, the numerous books and reports about the reckless run-up to the Iraq war, maybe Charlie Savage or Jack Goldsmith's books.) - PaulPinfield, on 12/27/2007, -5/+23Ok, the guy says he could take down the Bush administration.
Go on then... - warble, on 12/27/2007, -3/+20Reminds me of Fox news.
- eviltandem, on 12/27/2007, -0/+17Yes, this is terribly good advice. I'm gonna go for a reach here and guess you are not a lawyer, and further, not very bright.
If he did something illegal under orders from his superiors then he very much does have something to fear. Especially if that person happens to be the most powerful individual in our country. - atheinostic, on 12/27/2007, -2/+19How many wars did President Grant start?
- rickpdx, on 12/27/2007, -10/+27It is also one of the most anti-Israeli "news" sources in the world. It's irrational hostility and relentless ideological bias is unmatched. It's laughable to read the linguistic contortions as it tries to avoid referring to Israel as anything other than "the Zionist regime," "the Zionist entity," etc. It lives in a fantasy land akin to that of a 3 year old who, if she closes her eyes, can pretend the outside world has gone away. I can only conclude that the only explanation for this rabid hostility is the anti-Jewish religious hysteria fanned by its interpretation of the Quran. I would be very skeptical of anything you read in Press TV.
- williamdyer, on 12/27/2007, -2/+19Let's see, with POTUS possibly on his way to prison on your say so, you wouldn't be watching your six?
- shmatt, on 12/27/2007, -0/+17If you think bush is a liberal then you are clueless. Also if you think stem-cell research is a bad thing then you really are a moron
- uncoveror, on 12/27/2007, -5/+21If he knows anything, he will be disappeared be for he can testify.
- ApokalypseNow, on 12/27/2007, -17/+33Nothing ever comes of them because attempting to impeach a sitting president is political suicide. None of the politicians in Washington want to commit to such a move at the cost of their own careers.
- Arkavus, on 12/27/2007, -6/+22That's making the assumption the person will tell you the right information, if they even have it. If its happening in the US or any other western country (likely considering it's your family) you won't need to torture anyone. Just gotta let the police do their job. They've managed pretty well without torturing people for a really long time.
- Gerz1219, on 12/27/2007, -1/+16he liberated two oppressed nations (at a probable cost north of a trillion borrowed-from-China dollars, and they're not liberated yet)
lowered taxes (while *raising* spending and *enlarging* the gov't, thus causing massive deficits and ensuring a necessary future tax hike)
convinced Libia to turn over their nukes (while North Korea became a nuclear power on his watch)
blocked federal funding for stem cell research (gratifying Bible thumpers at the expense of millions of people suffering from diseases that might be cured by stem cell research)
fixed the military (by forcing us to lower admission standards and extend tours of duty -- and with our entire military bogged down, we are completely unable to respond to any unforeseen crisis)
Everything Bush does is bad. - Delphium226, on 12/27/2007, -1/+16Oh look, another baby fascist learning to talk.
- eviltandem, on 12/27/2007, -1/+16Yeah, cause this whole defending us from terrorists thing sure has played out well. Bush has managed to turn us being attacked into us being the one everyone hates.
Clinton was a lot of things I didn't like, but at least the man had a few neurons to rub together. Leading a country with your ego is no way to go. You get predictably aweful results.
Give me Clinton over Bush Jr. any day. Since when did Clinton have ANYTHING to do with the .com? Does the president control the stock markets? That's a new one for me. I've heard all kinds of bat-***** crazy things be blamed on him, but that takes the cake imo. - Opiate, on 12/27/2007, -6/+20Fully indoctrinated, how can you make such a broad statement about being too old or smart to believe theories.. you haven't heard them but they are auto wrong? People like you are the reason America is falling.
- lhbaker, on 12/27/2007, -6/+20What it you were only 50 percent certain that this person has the info you want? 75%? 90%? Would you still torture them?
- eviltandem, on 12/27/2007, -0/+14@briguymaine
What? You just contradicted yourself. You said simultaneously he doesn't control it, but he does. I have studied economics and it's not that simple. We don't weild as much control over the economy as you seem to think. By and large it does what it does and is outside any meaningful control.
You can do stupid stuff to aggrevate it. For example, take a weak economy and sagging dollar. Then take trillions of dollars a year, on debt, and dump it in a giant hole we call Iraq. That kind of nonsense does matter. That's taking a lot of value from us and giving it away to others, while simultaneously increasing the money supply, and further devaluing our dollar.
I wish with every fiber of my being that Bush was working on a "happy-go-lucky" presidency. He seems to be taking the "burn-everything-i-touch" approach. Call me crazy, but I prefer happy-go-lucky.
We don't have to fight. We don't have to name call. We don't have to torture, and we don't have to spend the rest of my life fighting an imaginary "war on terrorists" that can never be won. There have always been terrorists. There always will be in the future.
I'm really tired of being represented by the stupid. Every time that man gets on TV it makes me cringe. The world is watching when he says stuff like, "the childrens do learn". Worse, they think I'm stupid because we voted for him. For the most part, I'd say they're right. - jaymzdean, on 12/27/2007, -3/+16MSNBC and CNN: Masters of feign opposition.
- charlietuna, on 12/27/2007, -0/+13Would you prefer I simply call him names? More your style perhaps, but not mine.
- eviltandem, on 12/27/2007, -2/+15@Narasil
Assuming you can prove the individuals you are torturing are guilty BEFORE torturing them, I can at least follow your faulty, 2 dimensional logic.
I somehow doubt the frame workers intended "suspend habeas corpus" to mean: gather all the people you can, don't provide them any counsel, and torture them for information in secret military bases. If they meant any of that, I'm sure they would have written it down.
All of which has nothing to do with the here and now today. We've seen lots of torture, and we've all agreed in various treaties that we won't do it anymore. End of story. - hakz, on 12/27/2007, -0/+13yes protect him with the diggs. He'll soon be surrounded by bulletproof diggs
- Rawja, on 12/27/2007, -2/+15Here's the Sunday Times article to which the story refers:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and ...
Iranian or not it is indeed there. - jaymzdean, on 12/27/2007, -1/+14No, but Sibel Edmonds does and she's under Congressional gag order.
