- KreegsMcSteves, on 09/06/2008, -7/+53Ya cause every terrorist needs to go on Facebook and update his status...
Osama Bin Ladin is: tired from all this running *sigh* - shownoregrets, on 09/06/2008, -0/+39So...they created a website for spies, and then announced it publicly? i'm surprised this isn't an onion article.
- Hypatia42, on 09/06/2008, -0/+32Wouldn't a CIA, FBI twitter site be more helpful?
FBIAgent33: Still standing in line at Starbucks, u caught any1 yet? - inactive, on 09/07/2008, -1/+3029 of your friends joined the group ~*RIP Alexander Litvinenko*~.
- 9mmCensor, on 09/06/2008, -1/+26Great, cant wait till this gets hacked...
- MidnightRIder77, on 09/06/2008, -1/+23The article is discussing a Facebook esque website for spies not one for terrorists.
So it would be more like Jason Bourne: can't remember a damn thing from last night. I must have been hammered. - grumpy1377, on 09/07/2008, -0/+14I want to add Stan Smith of the CIA as my buddy, where do i sign up?
- arjie, on 09/07/2008, -0/+13Oh great, now each day agents will wake up to stuff like, "Michael V. Hayden has promoted Stephen R. Kappes", "Sulick has uploaded 14 new pictures of WMD" "O'Sullivan invites you to take the 'Is your brother part of a sleeper cell?' Quiz"
- ikayto, on 09/07/2008, -1/+13yes, way to be discrete.
*face palm - neko6, on 09/07/2008, -0/+12How do you know 007?

What next? fbi.stumbleupon.com? - h4ckler, on 09/06/2008, -3/+12I hope it gets hacked.

- Typhoon2009, on 09/07/2008, -0/+8NSAnerd666: ***** y did they upgrade 2 vista! crshd again!
- LeekMibles, on 09/07/2008, -0/+7This will work really well until one year from now when agents start realizing that AbuMusharif_underground_speech(1).mp3 is really Usher ft. Lil Jon - Yeah.mp3
In two years they'll be setting up secret spy orgies
In three years they'll be a digg.gov - shannobn, on 09/07/2008, -1/+8I surf Facebook while I'm meant to be 'working' and get paid for it too.
- sadhesati, on 09/07/2008, -0/+7Awesome; I can't wait to see all the security nightmares that will result from this. We all know how accurate those programs credit card agencies use are at detecting patterns that may indicate theft *rollseyes*
And what if someone's a bad apple to begin with? This is just allowing them to obtain more information that they could possibly leak. - RoadDoggFL, on 09/07/2008, -0/+6http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIPRNET
... - EndouOuto, on 09/07/2008, -0/+5The CIA was involved from the beginning
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMWz3G_gPhU - Exzhaton, on 09/07/2008, -0/+5It's not the network that's secret, it's the content.
- paolom, on 09/07/2008, -1/+6what could possibly go wrong?
- fadingsignal, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4Congrats for having simultaneously the highest dugg, and lowest dugg comment in this post.
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4way to use discrete instead of discreet
*face palm rofl - keyforce, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4Did this remind anyone else of the SG-1 Episodes where The Trust uses random BBS to communicate with each other?
- fadingsignal, on 09/07/2008, -1/+5I can just imagine all of the XSS and Privacy blunders / lulz that will result from this.
- Dylson, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4He's not your bucko, guy.
- diabolicedict, on 09/07/2008, -1/+5There are operatives and analysts in the spooks (a.k.a spy) business. Operatives are those who are usually in the field to gather the data. Analyst are those who spend a lot of time in Langley or whatever HQ to process and put the data in context.
I believe the article clearly indicated the main audience of the new system are the analysts. - wowsah156, on 09/07/2008, -2/+6Two words: Information overload. spies already have to contend with too much information has it is. The reason the American militay machine is so ineffective and full of hubris is because of too much information. Can anyone say anything uselful military wise came out of the NRO or the CIA?! Just another useless gimmick eating away what little money the Rothschild military machine has left.
- weeFred, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4He's not your guy, esse.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4More data than intelligence -- agreed.
But this sort of data collection is great for understanding the "mood" of the people.
Facebook and its like collect data. An exchange of information like this for agents -- will be used to detect how the agents feel. It's more to actually keep tabs on THEM then it is to help them in their task.
The CIA is being defanged anyway --- all the real power will be with corporate spies. - VitriolAndAngst, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3I'm thinking about a facebook page, saying how much I like the government and being able to crack the heads of hippies.
I'm sure to get contacted by someone in a dark suit, telling me I have the "right stuff."
Yeah, the whole thing is a great source of Psi-ops data. They learn what crap will divide the nation and that becomes the next political issue.
The Total Information Awareness Office didn't go away, it went with that bastard from Iran/Contra -- Poindexter (if I remember correctly) to the private sector. We have so many databases that go "oops" on laptops of civilian and military records. This happens in the millions each and every month with little repercussion. While the mob likes SS numbers and credit cards (worth less than $.75 now they are so common), I have to wonder if Poindexter isn't collecting the rest. - MtheoryX, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quis_custodiet_ipsos_ ...
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? is a Latin phrase from the Roman poet Juvenal, variously translated as "Who watches the watchmen?", "Who watches the watchers?", "Who will guard the guards?", "Who shall watch the watchers themselves?", or similar. - Typhoon2009, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3It's on a closed network. Not to mention that if the hacker gets caught, they're probably getting a one way ticket to death row.
- webcrumb, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3nsa.google.com
- omgTHEPATRIOTS, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3This sounds like such a ridiculously bad idea.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3Right. Because they've been doing that for years now.
When they lend us money -- we aren't going to go to war with a nuclear nation over hacking. - chedabob, on 09/07/2008, -2/+4Have these guys never heard of VPN and an intranet?
- andsalvatierra, on 09/07/2008, -1/+3Hey, maybe this answers the old adage... Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Just a thought. :) - VitriolAndAngst, on 09/07/2008, -1/+3"Work" is only required to keep you busy.
You are unlikely in a job that has any value.
Unless you produce food, housing, are a teacher or doctor, you are just busy to keep you out of everyone's hair. Just like me. - evilgourmet, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2If it is in a computer, if it runs through a network, if people made it: it can be hacked.
Dual nic's, or a virtual system like qemu (slurping from the host system) and you can pass the data to the other network. - VonBargenJL, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2i LOLed at google. searching for "A-space" bring up 'anarchy space' another social networking site....related??
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Facebook: I think I left my FAKE ID at the airport! Oh S*it!
- bigbangbuddha, on 09/07/2008, -1/+3What part of "Secret" Agent are they not understanding. I'm not sure whats dumber, that they are actually doing this, or the fact that they told us that they are doing this.
- webcrumb, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2It's alright, you never see their face.
Unless you start tagging photos. - diabolicedict, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Not really, if you force people to remember something unfamiliar some people will eventually write it down and that's not good. Worse is if they typed in a wrong IP address and ended-up in a phising site.
All you need is a high bit encryption from a SSL connection or a VPN tunnel, with multi-tier authentication: user-pass (for what you know), securID (for what you have), and biometrics (for who you claim to be). - Striker101, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Striker: Good Grief! Big Brother in action!
Where within the Constitution is this allowed?
How much more forced taxation? How much more national debt?
And how much more freedom is compromised by this?
Freedom cannot be a matter of compromise. - djcreamy, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2And http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JWICS
