- inactive, on 01/19/2009, -37/+145Should have been a full pardon!!!
- Christianptriot, on 01/19/2009, -58/+166Well this is LONG OVERDUE! Thank you Lord!
NOW, will the Dem controlled Congress seek indictments against the liberal DA who first brought charges against these two men for doing their jobs?!?! - Wolf73b, on 01/19/2009, -34/+114BRAVO, Mr. President!
- EMFK, on 01/19/2009, -31/+106Hallelujah!!
- UnFriendlyFire, on 01/19/2009, -37/+100Bush finally did something right!
- fxmulder, on 01/19/2009, -41/+99NOT GOOD ENOUGH. SOMEONE HAS TO ANSWER FOR THE WRONGFUL IMPRISONMENT OF 2 GOOD MEN, AND THE BUTT KISSING OF THE CRIMINAL DRUG DEALER
- inactive, on 01/19/2009, -36/+86I salute you Mr. President!
- JoeBooskey, on 01/19/2009, -31/+81It's about time that action was taken by the President. This, however, should have been a pardon!
- inactive, on 01/19/2009, -16/+49Interesting that this post was not listed as I posted my link. Apologize, not intentional to post twice.
- demicritter, on 01/19/2009, -29/+57Chalk two up for the American team. Been too many one-sided victories ceded to the Central American criminal syndicate!
- PhoenixTx, on 01/19/2009, -5/+32Looks like we were posting it at the same time. No worries!
I'm glad they're free. I hope they can get decent jobs. Actually, I bet there's a lot of money to be made from interviews. - NYCnative, on 01/19/2009, -23/+47thank God he did this.. they should have been full pardons, but at least they are going home. They are still in danger though. There are people out to get them and their families. Just recently Ramos's house was trashed and the family dog beaten up.. they destroyed her wedding pictures and the house. At least he can go home to protect the family and if anyone enters his house he has the right to shoot them. What bastards would do that? the same bastards that they were protecting us from on the border.. there are dirty border agents that take bribes and were friends with the drug smuggler that they shot at.. THEY should be in jail..
'Attempted hit' put on Ramos family

I am quite happy the Ramos and Compeon are leaving their jails, and for their families. However, as I said in another post:
In an almost back-handed way, Bush ends the immediate agony of two loyal Americans. I am very happy for the families that they get to leave the hell-holes they have been in, yet I'd give much to place Johnny Sutton in one of them, but in the general population so he can make friends and not stunt his socialization skills.
Bush snarled at reporters earlier when he said he "...wasn't talking about pardons..." which has been his attitude all along. Don't overly congratulate him for this act, because it doesn't mitigate his stand on open borders and aggreements with Fox and Calderon on keeping them open while he was President. - madeingermany, on 01/19/2009, -9/+27and covering it up
- Moonkeeper, on 01/19/2009, -9/+27I may be wrong but i though the DA was a Bush appointee?
- inactive, on 01/19/2009, -26/+44I agree that this is a good thing, but it should have been more. Then again, that's how I feel about the Bush presidency as a whole.
- Wolf73b, on 01/19/2009, -8/+26I think that we all can forgive everyone being excited about this news!
- PuterPrsn, on 01/19/2009, -11/+27Too bad we can't bring back ... a lot of things. 3/4 of the Clinton pardons to start with.
ROFLMAO on your Obama hopes - he's already rescinded every campaign promise. Day before yesterday, his staff put out a statement about it all being "campaign rhetoric" and that now the "real job" begins. Boy, have you been had! - Wolf73b, on 01/19/2009, -14/+30I gotta tell you, fxmulder, I usually would chalk it up to a prosecutor who honestly believed that what they did was wrong. In this case, however, I tend to agree with you. These were the guys, who protected us on a daily basis. We call it a "war on drugs," or "war on terrorism," or "war on crime," then treat it as if it is a shoplifting offense--rediculous. Ramos and Compeon had the right idea!
- Wolf73b, on 01/19/2009, -12/+27It's too bad that we couldn't get the Clinton administration to treat the first bombing of the World Trade Center as an act of war, rather than a crime.
- BigManOnCampus, on 01/19/2009, -21/+35FINALLY!!
- jetboyterp, on 01/19/2009, -5/+19Actually, for the record, the US Attorney who brought the charges said the punishment was too harsh:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jan/15/co ... - lccat, on 01/19/2009, -22/+35The Border Agents should have never been in prison, they were Political Prisoners utilized to intimidate the Border Patrol from securing our National Borders. Having said that I am excited for the Agents and their families, hopefully they can continue their life and fully recover from their mistreatment, I guess that is an understatement.
- stvidguy, on 01/19/2009, -21/+33It took him long enough, but it's the right thing to do.
- inactive, on 01/19/2009, -25/+37Thanks Phoenix for the post...it just came through to me via Fox news updates...
I believe both families are rejoicing right now, and deservedly so. Look at the glass half full rather than half empty. They will be released from prison and returned to their families. President Bush does have a good heart and I knew he would do the right thing by these families. Thank you President Bush for this brave act.
Also, as a firm Bush supporter I do need to say that I believe the judge in the case was a friend of Bush so rather than make the judge look bad Bush took the high road. What ever the case, I'm happy for both families. - Bloodwine, on 01/20/2009, -6/+18imaginary line? I think Mexico would feel differently if we starting moving troops across that imaginary line.
- inactive, on 01/19/2009, -23/+35President Bush absolutely did the right thing by commuting the sentences of these two men. 2 years was long enough for the crimes they men committed, and the obvious guilt of their so-called "victim" was never justly considered.
But Ramos and Compean were not innocent or wrongly convicted. They tampered with evidence with the intent to obstruct justice. We cannot allow our strong emotions regarding protecting the border to justify throwing away the rule of law. Cops need to be cops, and cops have to play by a strict set of rules.
These agents weren't innocent, but they certainly were wrongly sentenced, and Bush took care of that today. Thank God. - factattack, on 01/19/2009, -25/+36WOW! It's time to party!!!!!!!
- kkonarik, on 01/20/2009, -4/+15they didn't murder the guy.
- thoughtsonthis, on 01/19/2009, -22/+32Thank you God! Maybe someday they will receive a pardon, but I think right now they are just so happy to return to their families.
- URnotheonly1, on 01/19/2009, -11/+21Anyone who knows me on here knows Im a Bush guy, but I do not agree with this decision. What about all of the NON-VIOLENT OFFENDERS do they get out???
What about all the people in for crimes where someone was not shot and there was no attempt to cover it up? - chase001, on 01/19/2009, -11/+21Should have known his last act would be to commute the sentences of the great martyrs to racism. White supremisists adn Republicans rejoice!
- PuterPrsn, on 01/19/2009, -16/+25There must be more to the story or they'd have gotten a pardon. No one here on Digg having been privy to the entire trial, these comments are half-baked (including mine). Having said that, I'm very happy to see they at least served only a tiny portion of their sentences and will be back with their families in a couple of months.
- inactive, on 01/19/2009, -8/+17Ditto.
- inactive, on 01/19/2009, -4/+13The Koran? You mean Lincoln's Bible?
- dcmjzero, on 01/20/2009, -8/+17The crime: carrying a plant across an imaginary line. Sounds really bad to me.
- inactive, on 01/19/2009, -21/+29Better than nothing, I suppose.
- BabyWookie, on 01/19/2009, -9/+17@Serial0Hacker:
This is not Singapore. We don't summarily execute people for trafficking weed. - inactive, on 01/20/2009, -2/+10Take notice, conservatives done OWNED this thread.
- pintomp3, on 01/19/2009, -34/+42Bush supports shooting unarmed brown people in the back.
- manjas8, on 01/19/2009, -11/+19they shot him in the ass.
and he was a drug smuggler. - WasabiBomb, on 01/19/2009, -8/+15Presidents don't have to pardon on their last day in office. Bush could've pardoned them months ago. Why didn't he?
Oh, that's right- somehow the Democrats are at fault, right? - merky1, on 01/19/2009, -0/+7On the other side of the coin, if Bush had pardoned them, then the prosecutors could have taken another crack at the case. Its the same reason Bush didn't pardon Scooter, to prevent additional prosecution by removing double jeopardy.
- Coestar, on 01/20/2009, -5/+12What's with all the copy pasta comments posted the very SECOND this article was submitted?
- DirtyBinLV, on 01/19/2009, -21/+27If those two officers though that shooting an unarmed guy in the back was part of "doing their job", they would have defended their actions. Instead, they lied about the facts to investigators. If the two of them had even managed to tell the same fake story, they might not have been convicted.
- SuperVepr308, on 01/20/2009, -2/+8Outstanding! I wish it had been sooner but President Bush did the right thing.
- DirtyBinLV, on 01/20/2009, -5/+11Robojerk,
The officers knew they screwed up immediately. If they thought it was a legit shooting, they would not have picked up their shell casings. - Salesti, on 01/20/2009, -1/+7He turned around and got shot in the HIP. Ramos believed the slimeball was pointing a gun at him. The idiot got shot in the hip. That means he was turning towards Ramos when he got himself shot. Genius.
- iamjoe16, on 01/19/2009, -21/+27He should have pardoned them and done it a long time ago
- dcmjzero, on 01/20/2009, -3/+9The war on drugs and terrorism have been a horrible loss. And the sentences for drug offenses are often worse than murder and child molestation- not a "shoplifting offense" as you suggest. Look it up: they shot a man in the back and lied about it. Who will protect us from those "protecting" us?
