- grungegbunny, on 10/10/2007, -11/+83I believe this article is 100% correct, terrorists do not know if their communications are being monitored so they just always assume they are and act accordingly.
The US citizens however have a right to privacy.
Warrantless data mining of people is obsurdly unconstitutional. Where is Congress??
“Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety" Ben Franklin - diggydougie, on 10/10/2007, -6/+54Gonzales is just a smoke screen. The more we focus on him the less we look at the more important malfeasance.
- bridow, on 10/10/2007, -8/+48When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.
-Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) - TeamWookie, on 10/10/2007, -9/+44Bush believes:
1) Our country may die if we don't "stop the terrorists"
2) Most Americans are stupid and don't know what we need to do to protect ourselves
3) His administration and the neocons are the only people that can protect us from terrorism
I wouldn't be surprised if he crossed the line like Nixon just to "protect us". We need to stop electing these jack@$$ ideologues. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+38I think the terrorist are smart enough to not talk about it over phones, cell or landline. Its just an excuse to monitor the rest of us.
- bachdog, on 10/10/2007, -3/+25Only the biggest idiots among Americans will still argue about this sort of thing in terms of "Republicans vs. Democrats." Get over your partisanship. Until you realize that both political parties are the same thing, you will continue to be distracted from wrongdoings while waging war with "the other side," as the gullible suckers you are. The parties are the SAME otherwise Bush and Cheney would have already both been impeached
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -10/+29Bush is a terrorist, war criminal, and horrific liar.
9-11 was an inside job!
Depleted uranium is a weapon of mass destruction! - CaptainValor, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18Bravo. It's about time this came to forefront. The Orwellian overtones are inescapable. And this is NOT fiction!
- dukeeeey, on 10/10/2007, -15/+31The same thing that happened to Nazi Germany.. is happening to USA. People better wake up.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=969028729334963658 - zanzzz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16There seems to be quite a few people who miss the point about the surveillance society our government and military are so assiduously creating. Of course the NSA is not interested in your insipid chatter. It may not bother you that virtually all electronic communications everywhere in the world of every variety are "data mined" on a continuous basis. The legality of these activities are questionable at best and "probably illegal in many instances. Now we have increasing video surveillance and tracking abilities expanding at an almost exponential rate. Of course all this is done with the most noble intentions and blanket assurances are issued that no abuses will ensue. The question is how much privacy are you willing to concede to a government that is determined to make our lives as transparent as possible to further their zeal in prosecuting crime and terror? Do you find the idea of a vast secret data base comprising the legal, financial, educational, medical, vocational, and spending records of every citizen troubling? Well your government is hard at work assembling it. At what point do law abiding citizens say enough is enough, let's draw the line here. Well it doesn't seem to even matter if significant segments of the population start to voice their objections or try to hold their elected representatives responsible. These programs go forward whether you like it or not. They are hidden in "black" budgets, shifted from one agency to another, and renamed. "Carnivore", "Total Information Awareness", or something more obscure now are just a few of these projects the public has even heard of. After awhile will enough of us understand that when a government acts in a lawless manner in an effort to "protect our liberty" that the only achievement possible is the illusion of freedom and representative democracy?
- bachdog, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14you're a gullible sucker who pledges allegiance to a political party and not your country and constitution and your basic freedoms. idiot
- Lister169, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11When I'm in the shower, I'm afraid to wash my hair.
'Cause I might open my eyes and find George Bush standing there.
I always feel like...George Bush is watching me.
Ain't got no privacy. - grungegbunny, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Maybe you should watch more PBS news then, they had a full report on AT&T allowing NSA to setup splitting servers within their network to montitor pretty much every communication that happens within the US.
- spucky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10If this was maybe 4 years ago, I would be Digging on astronomy, physics, neat mathematics (some of us would say it is all neat, but that is beside the point), and interesting programming algorithms. However, from what I have seen from this administration and how many fields that they have politicized for the worst (NASA!), it is most important for me to make sure they are stopped. I don't expect impeachment, but if there is a great public outcry and the legislature feels a little heat from their constituents, just maybe they will reign in Bush and company.
I would like to spend my time Digging cool space stories, but as long as the Bush administration sits waiting for a chance to start a nuclear war, I will keep Digging the "Bush is bad" and impeachment stories.
If you don't appreciate the democracy on Digg, I would suggest Free Republic or perhaps you may even prefer Storm Front. - uptown, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Four ... arrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhaaaaaahhhhh.. no make that five....

- krnldmp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Actually that raging male bovine anus happens to be the linchpin of the entire administration at this point. That's why they're protecting him with their lives even though his lies don't quite make *****'s worth of sense most of the time.
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13Bush doesn't give a damn about the terrorists, any more than the average person. All he cares about is entrenching the privileged neo-aristocracy. That means taking away your ability to resist their regressive agenda.
- joebob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7You can't really go after the big cheese (head) without some underlings rolling on him. So far thats really his entire claim to fame, he manages to keep all his subservient cronies in line with protection from prosecution. Gonzales has turned the position of attorney general into a presidential toadie complicit in this insane quest to pursue anyone potentially labeled a terrorist at any time, place, and totally without regard to the damage inflicted along the way.
- shorn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Why didn't you stop at 'liberals believe', because that's where you started being stupid and wrong. Supposing your definition of 'liberal' means the usual 'everyone who doesn't support the fascist Bush administration 100%', you are talking about most of the people on this planet. And most of the people on this planet do NOT believe ANY one thing as a group.
Well, maybe there is one thing we 'liberals' believe. We believe that there were an insignificant number of 'terrorists' in the world before Bush started retaliating for 9/11, and there are now a significant number of 'terrorists'. It was a manageable situation before he acted, it's a nearly unmanageable situation now. Your president is the ***** who is to blame for that, and he doesn't deserve the time of day let alone a position of authority. - Dudeee, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9***** the left, right political spectrum, how bout we just all join together to discover the truth, and through the Internet it's possible, but everyone all left this right that it causes arguments, everyone is digging this from all areas we want truth and there just some people who wont open their eye's cause they are afraid.
They do wanna hear your calls examples of things you(the digg users) could get in trouble for if they wire tapped everyone, talking about illegal downloads, illegal drinking, illegal drugs, illegal gambling, pornography(and we all know digg nerd like porn), talking bad about government etc. All those are normal things people do and use everyday because we can get away with it, soon every freedom with be taken away even legal ones. ex:FREE SPEECH. - coinman987, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8They already have. If you've been on digg you already know that our freedom of speech, the right to protest, privacy, etc have already gone down the ***** hole and for what the perception of protection?
- hiscity, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9It's the law of the universe -- what you fear most shall surely descend upon you.
- obliviousfool, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6How many terrorists has he gotten exactly?
- shorn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Louder, I can't quite sense the full range our your desperation.
- Cyberen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Agreed. Let's throw the ***** in jail and proceed.
- shorn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7So where is this evidence supposed to come from? It's a 'secret program'. The whole point is to keep people who would be opposed from knowing the truth.
- obliviousfool, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Your comment is a non sequitur. Look it up.
- shorn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7That little liberal group you are referring to is most of the ***** population of this planet.
- TitaniumLizzard, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Well no *****. Welcome to George's AmeЯica.
- StarlessKnight, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It's easier to fight them only after you have indisputable proof they've abused what people have been saying they've abused? Don't question them until it's too late? Good plan. Already have your resistance cell planned out, then, for when America really does turn down the dark road? I don't care if it happens now or later, every small step we take in the wrong direction is a Bad Thing (tm).
- shorn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5When some neocon operative or a cop or anyone even tangentally associated with 'law enforcement' spots you arguing or protesting or just decides they don't like you for some reason and then because of this and other legal allowances is able to get your entire transactional history and ruin your life, do not come crying to me.
- shorn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Frightened Toady.
- oxymoron69, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6You've got it there.... Repug Vs DEMOcrat, Red Vs Blue, Donkey Vs Elephant, they're all the same *****.
Two sides of the same coin.
Although, what's with the donkey and elephant thing you've americans got going on? - worldinmyeyes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Go back to sleep hoovcluck, pogfreak, and fuzzmeister....Bush loves you and will protect you.
- worldinmyeyes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5GrizzWolf - proud member of the bury brigade, here to do nothing but insult people, and claim that there are no conspiracies, anywhere. Nothing more than a lame COINTELPRO spook.
- SmokedL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4A smokescreen indeed.
If there was any real will to stop these abuses of power there would have been action, rather than grandstanding, a long time ago. Instead we see congress granting even more draconian powers of surveillance. Granting continued funding, with zero real strings attached, for the war after an appropriately long period, of grandstanding about their supposed opposition, has passed.
There's a whole lot of political theater going on, but nothing is changing for the better.
Look at what these people, both democrats and republicans, say they stand for and then look at what they actually vote for.
Look at how much money they have received. Look at how much of it came from ordinary citizens, and how much from corporate lobbyists.
It's about time for people to wake up to the fact that this two party system has failed , in the face of powerful lobbying interests, to actually represent the voters. Both large parties have succumbed to the legalized bribery to the point where they are in practice just two branches of the corporation party. The US government is almost completely controlled by large corporations by now, and new more draconian laws to control the population are passed at a terrifying pace. If the US population does not wake up soon it may be to late to achieve meaningful change through the existing system.
With all mainstream media controlled by a handful of huge corporations, perhaps it's too late already. .Most Americans have no idea how powerful the opposition to the status quo is. Dissenting voices are muted to near silence by the main stream media. Polls that show what the population actually wants are ignored, or dismissed as unrealistic. Even within the established parties popular candidates with views more in line with the population of America are denied anywhere close to the same amount of air time or time to speak during debates that the "main stream candidates"(read: most strongly backed by corporations) are allotted.
The people opposed to what the US is becoming are bf all indications the majority, but they are divided, isolated, ignored and made to believe that they are all alone. - Darkhavans, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7In Soviet Russia, bush(he doesnt deserve capitalization) doesn't spy on Al Qaeda, he spies on you!
- youser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Dang! That's some point yer making.
On the other hand, there might be a market for Jihad shampoo now. - Grumps, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6I find that Bush and Cheney is a bigger treat to America than terrorist is.
- WilliamDavis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Just because they're all doing it doesn't make it ok. It makes it that much worse.
- shorn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Hey, I'm 44! I can get my own damn Hot Pocket. And the NSA knows, each and every time I do.

"Pass the crack and hookers, bitch" - Ben "the tank" Franklin. - worldinmyeyes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Bravo Tweakers - sometimes I'm too impatient to deal with the trolls who try to distract from the real issue by turning it into a false left-right argument. They are the desired products of a dumbed-down population that goes to the media to do their thinking for them. Thankfully, a lot of people are waking up to the fact that our problems are well above party affiliation at this point.
Democrats and Republicans are both responsible for the burgeoning fascism - and WE THE PEOPLE need to fight it at all costs. I'm a conservative too and am disgusted by our current crop of traitors in Congress. - bigboy101011, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I'm actually scared

- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Well, he certainly wrote it in his book "Historical Review of Pennsylvania" to which it is most commonly attributed.
- shorn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Yup. Care to explain why this is confusing to you? I'd trust Clinton with everything except my daughter's chastity. I'd trust 'W' with my daughter's chastity, and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE. He's bad news, over and over and over again. Bush has Echelon too (Gee, where is the THANKS:) but that's not enough for him, is it? He needs his Echelon to have ponies. It gives him happy erection.
