Burmese officials selling emergency aid supplies

telegraph.co.uk — Officials in Burma's cyclone-hit Irrawaddy delta area are appropriating emergency aid supplies and selling them in local markets, it was claimed on Monday.   • reflex768, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3Perhaps now it becomes clear by the junta is objecting so strenuously to allowing the *distribution* of food and supplies by international relief workers. Would tend to ruin the opportunities in plundering the aid for personal gain.

Just yesterday I commented to the other folks in the newsroom that I wondered how long it would be until those relief supplies ended up in the markets. Wow, that didn't take long at all! And, since Burma is a member of ASEAN and the UN, these groups aren't going to do a thing about it.
