- skored, on 10/10/2007, -11/+559FTA: "Colwell said the three youths were questioned about the young boy's death, but can't be held criminally responsible since they're under 12."
That's a goddamn shame. - Skip742, on 10/10/2007, -9/+256Where's the justice in that? It makes me wish I was 11 years old again, and could gather up a bunch of my 11-year-old friends and go beat those 7, 8, and 9 year olds within an inch of their life. I mean, after all, we'd be under 12, right?
- jimmiss, on 10/10/2007, -7/+224"Whoa man, remember when we all killed that kid and got away with it? Man that awesome..."
- RogerStrong, on 10/10/2007, -2/+217That's life here in Manitoba.
Last month we caught one of three kids breaking into our car and held him for police. There's a sense of inevitability here: He confirmed to police that he was going up and down the back lane breaking into cars, that he had been caught doing it before, and that the large flat screwdriver he was carrying was for busting locks. Being too young to charge, they turned him over to his parents. The next day the kid was overheard bragging about getting a ride in a police car. And that night our car was broken into again, with the lock damaged by large screwdriver.
It's illegal to name or identify a minor who committed a crime, except to police. We've been warned that we could get in a lot of trouble if we try to warn others about which kids are doing the break-ins and vandalism.
Our police are excellent. They're just not allowed to do anything except hand the kids back to the parents. - Tigah, on 10/10/2007, -2/+161I feel sorry for the kid's family; son dies, and the police can't do anything about it? Things like this are only made harder when justice can't be had.
- Th3_anOmoLy, on 10/10/2007, -14/+169Sounds like the authorities are treating this like some kind of "accident". Perhaps the Hot Fuzz need to be brought in.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+112son...im gonna teach u a game called rob the bank
- RogerStrong, on 10/10/2007, -0/+108The kid we caught breaking into our car last month was simply handed over to his parents yet again. He was overheard the next day bragging to his friends about getting a ride in a police car.
So yeah, that attitude is probably accurate. - XxFinalexX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+103So can parents just raise their kids to commit heinous crimes while they're under twelve and reap the rewards?
- XBunnyRacer, on 10/10/2007, -4/+82Why aren't the parents responsible for their children's actions?
It sounds like Canada needs to take a serious look at revising this law. - smurf22, on 10/10/2007, -1/+75***** up parents, ***** up kids, ***** up laws.
- batmant, on 10/10/2007, -4/+72Well they'd have to charge me because I'm afriad I'd severely hurt anyone...ANYONE who did that to one of my children.
- diggface5000, on 10/10/2007, -3/+71I don't know canadian law, but it seems like the family should at least have a civil case. It's absolutely awful and won't bring back their son, but at least it's something. Hopefully those boys understand what they did and are haunted by it for the rest of their lives.
- mingdamerciless, on 10/10/2007, -2/+70These little bastards wouldn't be safe if I were the parent of the boy they murdered.
- NecroSexy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+71Accident? They watched him ***** drown.
- superal1394, on 10/10/2007, -1/+67Next time you catch the little bastard, don't call the police, grab him, smack him upside the head, then carry him by his feet to his parents. Drop the kid infront of them, tell them if you catch him ***** around again they can be sure he will be dropped off at an orphanage instead of his house.
- lordtyros, on 10/10/2007, -6/+65Sounds like Canada should borrow some of our police brutality.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/10/2007, -14/+69ONLY IN AMERICA! Oh wait...
- JFitzpatrick, on 10/10/2007, -10/+62Kill 'em.
Trust me. It'll save the headache, heartache, and the tax payers money later. If you've got homicide down pat before middle school, you're going to be nothing but trouble. - thecoolestguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+50The boy's father, Harvey Owens, said his son didn't know how to swim.
"(Adam) never swam before," Owens said.

That's really sad. - avisotin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+37Similar story happened to a mate of mine. 2 juveniles were trying to steal my mate's car and he saw them from his bedroom window. Next thing he did was grab a baseball bat, walk outside and knock them cold (note: not bash them repeatedly, but knock them unconscious)
He still got sued, has to pay 1000s in compensation, and the kids got a slap on the wrist. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+40They aren't treating it like an accident, you aren't legally culpable for your crimes until your 12 in Canada. There's a movie about it, it's called "Little Criminals".
- dnthomps, on 10/10/2007, -6/+42I know one family who is moving to Canada. Finally a safe way to distribute crack. Have my 4 year old do it for me. Who knew?
- RogerStrong, on 10/10/2007, -2/+38Grow up.
He never said anything about jailing them for life. Right now the kids are simply handed back to the parents. It's not at all uncommon for some kids to be caught breaking into cars or burning houses down or robbing 7-11s over and over and over - knowing full well that they're immune to punishment.
We need *something* in between the two extremes. Hold the kids criminally responsible, just have different implications of that for kids. - jackmaht, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31God, that law is *****. I feel so bad for them, just slipping through the cracks.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29So, I guess anonymous letters in the surrounding mailboxes are out of the question??
- Pixelante, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31Yeah, so they'll sue your pants off. Drown him in a lake and say you saw some other kids do it.
- supermajic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30"they didn't know better"
I'm pretty sure they would have. They stripped him ***** naked, this was no accident. - omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -7/+33While I wouldn't go to lordtyros' extreme, he has a point. Canada and the US seem to be two edges of the spectrum; the US has cops who don't follow the rules and standards set by the system, Canada has police that are too tied by the system. There's got to be a decent middleground out there somewhere.
- Neiby, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27That's ***** up.
- Scopitone, on 10/10/2007, -5/+31Blame the parents.
- Alphabet, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26If you're smart, you'd hire a bunch of 11 year olds to beat up that kid
- Ory303, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25Just put them down. As has been pointed out, they're already killing people at age 7, so who knows what hoodlums they'll turn into? Letting them get away with it just makes them think that what they did was acceptable. Any sensible parent would teach their child that harming their fellow man is wrong, so acts like this are just pure evil and should be treated as any crime. Children aren't as innocent as you might think.
- knowyourrights, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26I remember when I was 9 years old, I knew what the ***** I was doing, and so did these kids. Kids are a LOT smarter than we give them credit for folks, people seem to forget how it was when they were kids. If not, too bad, they need to be made examples of. This makes me sick to my stomach.
- gypsynuke, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24You kind of missed the point. Those three kids are bad people who might just laugh about it in a few years.
- cal0140, on 10/10/2007, -5/+28@Frnnkdlxx
Nobody said they had to get life - juvy till they're 17 sounds about right, then determine additional sentencing if they've been little wankers in the mean time. - SillyRabbits, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22The police may not be able to arrest him, but you can certainly hold the parent financially responsible. This happens all the time. If you drag them to small claims court, and they have to pay a few thousand dollars to repair the damage their kid caused, they eventually get the picture and reign the kid in. Sometimes the neighbors can complain all day long with no results, but if you legally force the parents to pull out their checkbook, it gets their attention.
- Intoccabile, on 10/10/2007, -3/+23Just get a fake ID
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18These three little ***** were mentally disturbed to start with. I mean, what kind of evil ***** do that to another child?!
- RogerStrong, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22The police aren't the problem. It's the Youth Criminal Justice Act that won't *allow* them to do anything except hand the kids back to the parents after a crime, sometimes again and agian and again.
- Phasmorphage, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Hey, if some 11 year old murdered your son.
How would you feel?
"oh , he didnt know what he was doing"
right? - evaburrito, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17"Six-year-old Adam Keeper died after he disappeared early Tuesday evening, and a community-organized search found his body hours later near the banks of Fishing Lake."
***** that. They didn't tell anyone because they were completely aware of how ***** up their actions were. Only the guilty try to hide what they do. That's why I don't buy most of the "temporarily insane" *****. If they didn't think raping and murdering some girl was wrong, then why the hell did they hide the body and try to wipe off their prints? - hotdigg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Man this is horrible.... Those boys DESERVE to be held criminally liable... this is appaling that nothing can be done to them. I hope the bullies die in a car crash!!!!
- Smight, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18Blame Canada!
- heavystone, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18If i was a parent I would hunt them boys down and beat the crap out of them! Heck maybe even kill them! Would be worth going to jail for IMO!
OR, just pay some 10 year old to shoot them.... - skulla, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16This is incredibly sad, my thoughts go out to the boys family at this time, just a tragedy.
- AnotherThought, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18well the 3 kids maybe safe but you know that boy's father will sue the ***** out of those children's parents, and you know what, he will win and all that is left are 3 broke ass family who live on SSC benefit for a very long time... still very sad story.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+18You can't sue the parents?
- buckeye45, on 10/10/2007, -5/+20if you're under the age of twelve you cannot be charged with a crime? why didn't i know this when i was under the age of twelve? i know i'm gunna get burried for this but *****, i would have started stenciling and graffiti way earlier.
- SicklyTea, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Wrong, they are murdering thugs, thats the point. When you strip someone naked by force, and make them march to their death its murder. If this had be one kid of the same age who simply conviced him it was a good idea that would be one thing. They didnt try to save him, didnt tell anyone. They are guilty. I guess you would have fogiven little Hitler too.
