I have family in different parts of Iran with children a similar age to me (20) and they've never been taught to say anything like 'Down with the USA'. In fact, both countries are loved by the general public.
Its just SOME of the mullahs that do.
The Iranian media is pretty similar to the english and american media with their current stories and not particularly saying anything negative about the UK and USA.

I really hate the demonization of any group of people. I have friends hailing from all parts of the world: Iran, UAE, Australia, Nigeria, England, China, Korea (to name a few of the hot topic countries) and there are no fundamental differences or evils in the people of any nation. I feel like all of us are trained to hate an opposing group of people, whether associated by religious or political boundaries, by the media and our own governments to the point that its instinctual. I hope that diggers here realize that whether the nation of people being vilified by Iranian government is British or American or any other country, that the shift of focus is not a win for anyone but a loss because the people in question are learning to hate with discriminance. The Empire crapped on the Arabs which didn't help the Persians view of us but I figured as people had short memories and Iraq's American sponsored invasion did kill a million of their people. From recent reading there is a popular view over there that America is just controlled by the secret society that run the Empire, well whatever, the truth is clearly sinister with the amount of genocidal attacks that we have inflicted on their peoples.

Water under the bridge? The powers-that-be in Iran work very hard to make the Iranian people afraid of us, convincing them that we could invade at any moment and take control of their country. It's a great way of quelling dissent - because dissent shows internal weakness, and the big bad USA might take advantage of that weakness. And it really wasn't helped by our invasion of Iraq, which many Iranians saw as a precursor to an invasion of Iran. It's also not helped by Republican idiots calling for action in supporting election protests. So basically, between deliberate government manipulation and the fact that we've made zero effort to show that we've changed since Cold War days, there's really not much reason for their view of us to change. - Stavrosian, on 07/20/2009, -0/+5Now now, you lost this one fair and square, old chap.
